Initial phone discussion did not go well. I have dealt with contractors so much that I know what will work for me, and personalities must mesh. I don't like someone to launch into a pitch about additional work before the initial subject of the call has been fully discussed, appointment made, etc. And additional work is only warranted and earned if the initial job has been contracted and completed satisfactorily. Note: The paragraph above was a rewrite after a phone call from Brian, who expressed concern about the effect of my first scathing review (he said "it will kill my business" -- that's quoted) and asked me to change it. Wow. That's never happened to me before. It takes a lot of chutzpah to call someone after it was obvious we wouldn't be doing business, and to ask them to do a favor and rewrite a review. It also shows what his main concern was -- him, not me. But after some thought -- and actual respect for his initiative and nerve -- I went ahead and did so. But he didn't leave it alone. Which is a grave error on his part. So what did he do? He responded with a tirade of his own. Huh, not only a lot of nerve, but also vengeful to customers that have rejected him. That's all you need to know. And just read his other negative reviews on Angie's and Google. He shows a behavior pattern, or read some book about how to counter negative customers on the net. Regarding the text of his response, his account of what occurred is off. He was not called any names. The term I used to describe his sales approach was "psycho-aggressive." I did not call him psycho. And he makes it sound as if he was innocent, reasonable and measured in his phone conversation. He was not, and mind you, I have dealt with dozens of contractors over the years (real estate investor), speak to them all the time, and I could place my hand on a Bible or take a polygraph and state that I was never felt so aggressively bulldozed in an initial phone inquiry into a contractor's services. He did not let me complete my initial questions by interrupting me and launched into a nonstop pitch. I never heard that he could "steer me in the right direction" in the initial phone call. Now if he calls or responds similarly again, then I will go straight to corporate. Some people immediately don't mesh and get along. Now it's obvious his company does excellent work. If you get along immediately, then that's great.
Description of Work: No services contracted.

ANGIE'S LIST SUBSCRIBERS; PLEASE TAKE NEGATIVE REVIEWS, WHEN THE WORK IS NOT COMPLETED WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. WE SCORED ALMOST ALL “A “REVIEWS ON EVERY JOB EVER COMPLETED. THIS CUSTOMER HAS ONLY POSTED NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON CONTACTOR'S TO DATE. He called in asking to have his rafters spray foamed, so I explained him our main focus is injection foam for walls, which is tremendously beneficial in an older home like his. He was very rude and said "stop giving me the hard sell", so I replied that I was just making a recommendation, and I'll be able to steer him in the right direction, whether it's for spray or injection foam. He inexplicably said "I'm hanging up now ", and did. I immediately called back, apologized (even though I did nothing wrong) and offered him a referral to a great spray foam contractor on his voice mail. He then posted this review, so I called him this morning to tell him this review really hurts our company and Angie's List customers are not "plants", which he mentioned in his review (an insult to the Angie's community) and nicely asked would he consider removing it. He launched into a hate filled tirade, saying multiple curse words and calling me names. We're a great company who takes pride in everything we do and speak to about 20 potential customers every day. When you speak to approximately 7000 potential customers every year, making everyone happy is impossible (even though we strive to do so). We still wish the best to Member and we're sorry that he took our sales recommendations the wrong way. PLEASE ALSO BEWARE OF CUSTOMERS WHO DON'T TAKE THE HIGH ROAD IN THESE SITUATIONS. WE TAKE PRIDE IN OUR EXEMPLARY PERFORMANCE AND NEVER STOOP TO THE LEVEL OF SOMEONE WHO ACCUSES ANGIE'S MEMBERS OF BEING "PLANTS", AS HE MENTIONED IN HIS SCATHING REVIEW. OUR CUSTOMERS ALWAYS COME FIRST.

Initial contact was scheduled with an estimator, who arrived on time, explained our options, inspected the space and gave his recommendation and an estimate. The meeting lasted about an hour. My husband and I appreciated the fact the the rep wasn't trying to push anything, he simply presented the facts and was respectful of our time. ABC arrived on time on the day we requested the work be performed. The men went straight to work, took precautions to make sure no harm would come to my walls or wood floors, and completed the job in about 2 hours. Once completed they had me inspect the work. Everything was done in a professional manner and we were pleased with the results. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company to others.
Description of Work: We had insulation blown into the attic. House is a two story colonial, 4-bedroom home that's 18 years old. Enough insulation was blown in to increase the insulation by an additional 10" depth.

Set up the appointment easily, although the owner asked that he be the last bidder on the project. Thought that was a little strange for an appointment call, but otherwise he was pleasant and professional. Richard, the estimator/salesperson, was very nice and did a good job explaining the work and the options. They found a quick installation date, the crew came and went quickly, and everything appears good to go. The 2 man crew was very professional, and left no trace they were in my house. My brother, who is a licensed home inspector, looked at their work and approved. He also thought it was a very good price. We'll see how my energy bills look this winter, but it was a very good experience and a very good price in my opinion.

The estimator was very nice and honest when assessing our situation. Our primary desire was noise reduction in a 3 year old house with all wood floors, and a master bath up against a nursery. He gave us the Agies List price, and after a few days we called back to schedule. The crew did great work. They were very clean, and took great care to cover everything up before starting work (imagine the scene from ET where the govt comes, everything is covered in plastic sheeting) The work was done over 2 days and came in right at the estimate. We have been thrilled with the result, a very large reduction is noise between floors, and my wife can now blowdry her hair without waking the baby. Great job, highly recommended, very honest salespeople, great crew!

The salesperson came to my home to do measurements and provide an estimate and provided a discount for contracting with them on the spot. He also tried to make sure we closed the deal by suggesting that I sign up for a credit card (he suggested 2) that had 0% interest for 18 months and gave me the credit card form to fill out which they would submit. We scheduled the insulation installation for a couple weeks later. The crew was on time and worked hard despite having a different type of siding than they'd believed. They did make a hole through the interior dry wall in one place and one of my sockets stopped working for a few days as the insulation dried. They took care around a water shut off valve which I pointed out. The work was satisfactory but the credit card piece seemed a little strange. I got a call from them saying that my application for the credit card with the longest interest-free period was rejected (and I've never had a card application rejected in my life) and asked if I wanted to sign up for another interest-free card with a shorter period without interest. When I agreed, they set up a 3-way call with the other credit card company to process that application, though I was not in a good place to do so at the time. I later received both cards, including the one that was supposedly rejected, in the mail. When I called to ask USA Insulation about the rejection, they didn't know what had happened. While knowing about the card enabled me to do the work at that time before winter got extreme rather than waiting, I disliked having a contractor acting as an intermediary with a financial services company.

Job went very well. They had to reschedule initial date because of problems with truck but gave me 24 hours' notice and were flexible about rescheduling. I half-expected problems with foam insulation causing cracks or blowouts in my walls -- very old plaster on lathe in some places and equally old drywall in other places. But I was pleasantly surprised to find no problems at all -- they kept one guy inside with walkie-talkie to monitor that no foam came through outlets or other crevices. Crew was very prompt, quick and clean in their work. And I've already noticed a difference in utility bills. Even though July tied for hottest on record and I telecommuted more often this summer w/AC on all day, my July 2012 electricity bill was 300 kw lower than my August 2011 bill.

I live in a fully detached 100-year old home in Petworth and was having serious issues with energy leakages. There was a big temperature difference between floors. I selected USA Insulation based on Anjie's List reviews and am glad I did! Brian was great on the phone every time, the energy expert they had come to my house was professional and honest, and the crew that came out to blow the insulation were very nice. They arrived on time, communicated well with me, kept the house clean, and I can tell a huge difference. I would definitely recommend their services.

Brian's suggestion was to blow new cellulose insulation on top of the insulation that was already there. All of this over the phone without seeing the layout or the situation. It turned out that the company that I eventually used actually came out and measured the space (650 sq ft - not the 700ft Brian suggested). Brian said that it would be cheaper for me to get the quote on the phone than to send out a salesman who would tack his commission onto the price. He was scheduling me for the job and asking for a credit card before I could tell him that I intended to call around and get a couple of other estimates. I thought his sales pitch over the phone was pretty aggressive and, I just don't take welI to being lectured to. I consider myself a saavy shopper, and I always do my research before I call anyone to come out and do work at my house. It took me a couple of weeks to make up my mind which company to go with, Brian did follow up with a call. When I told him that I appreciated his call, I decided to go with another company who had quoted me a very good price (less than his) and the work they were going to do was much more comprehensive--remove the old insulation, spray foam and then top with cellulose. I ended up hanging when Brian started to lecture me again. Would I recommend this company? No. I would not. I actually had to wait a few weeks before I wrote this up because I was so annoyed with this whole interaction.
Description of Work: I spoke with Brian on the phone about redoing the insulation in my townhouse attic, his estimate was 700 sq ft after viewing my house on Google Maps, and looking up the address in the county records.

This review is full of misinformation in my opinion . ANGIE'S LIST SUBSCRIBERS; PLEASE TAKE NEGATIVE REVIEWS, WHEN THE WORK IS NOT COMPLETED WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. WE SCORED 100% " A " REVIEWS ON EVERY JOB EVER COMPLETED, THAT WAS REVIEWED IN ANGIE'S LIST. This report is full of inconsistencies; 1) 700 square feet was just given as an estimate over the phone- not as something to be deceptive whatsoever. 2) We do not install cellulose insulation in attics. We install JM Climate Pro fiberglass. 3- To accuse someone of being aggressive is extremely subjective. I offered her a fair price, on good work, and was trying to get her work done for her right away. Some people take this as aggressiveness, while we hope every actual customer of ours, takes it as a company which is eager to fill the customers needs quickly at a fair price. 4- Someone saying they are being lectured to multiple times is also quite subjective, whereas we are a professional insulation company, and to tell someone the pros and cons of dealing with different attic applications, we feel is our obligation. When the customer called me to say she was going with another company and spray foaming her attic, all I said was to be careful because spray foam in attics can cause ventilation issues, which can lead to mold and mildew, and she immediately flew off the handle. I would tell anyone, even if I weren't in the business, to be careful of this, because we get calls consistently from those who have had problems with mold & mildew, due to using spray foam in their attics. As an insulation company, we have easy access to these products, but we choose not to use them because of the potential of causing mold & mildew in customers attics (we could make a lot more money if we did sell spray foam in attics- but we only sell products we can stand behind). She was offended that I informed her of this, and immediately started yelling at me. I wasn't even trying to get her business at this point, I was just trying to be a good person, and warn about the potential negative effects of her chosen application. I tried to call today to see if there was any way to remedy the situation, and she yelled at me & hung up on me again, telling me that it's unacceptable to call her and try to remedy the situation and possibly remove this negative review. We're a great company who takes pride in everything we do and speak to about 20 potential customers every day. When you speak to approximately 7000 potential customers every year, making everyone happy is impossible. We still wish the best to Member and we're sorry that she took our knowledge and professionalism the wrong way. Please also beware of all customers and companies that don't take the high road in these situations. We take pride in our 100% performance on completed jobs and intend on keeping this forever. We had a great experience with USA Insulation from start to finish. Our three-story townhouse was in dire need of insulation and the pleasant DC summer was making the top-floor much too EXTREMELY pleasant. On the order of 20 degrees or so more pleasant than the main level. At any rate, we purchased a few of their Angie's List specials, scheduled them to come out a few days later and the results are tremendous. Top-floor is now only a few degrees warmer than the main level which is amazing. The crew that showed up were very friendly, quick, clean, etc. Very happy.
Description of Work: Three-story townhouse was insulated with R49 blown-in insulation. The team added baffles for airflow and put in some standard insulation for a small walkway (should we need to get to the fan or store things in the attic).

As we had just recently moved in, and before calling USA Insulation, I had researched all the various options for my home (all brick home which was built in 1953). Through the research, I knew what I wanted - blown-in insulation in the attic and the foam injection for all exterior walls - to not only dramatically increase the quality of insulation of the home but to also add a moisture/sound/fire barrier and protection with the foam injection. No it was not the cheapest option out in the market, but it was the best option for all that I wanted to accomplish through this job.I worked with Brian - the scheduling of a sale rep to come to the house was easy. Scheduling the actual work was complicated due to other things we had going on in parallel (some electrical work) and Brian was very understanding and accommodating of the couple of schedule changes we had to make. the crew arrived on time (ahead of time in fact), and walked me through everything they would be doing that day. They laid down protective covers throughout the house and took care of all the prep work thoroughly and quickly. Whenever there was anything remote and small, the crew always asked me to look at it or discussed it/informed me first. There was nothing major or alarming that really required my attention, but the crew was always making sure I knew what was going on and how the work was being executed. The entire crew that came to the house was very polite and courteous. They worked efficiently and diligently and made sure not to disturb me (I was working at home as best as they could (unavoidable noise from the machines but they insisted to apologize - just another example of an incredible team that was sent to the house).I know the house is now well protected. They walked me through the attic to show me the new blown-in insulation - measuring sticks had been placed throughout so there was no guessing or estimating the depth - it was there for you to see and you know without a doubt that the job had been done right. The clean up afterwards really was outstanding - you'd never know they were even here.We can't say enough about the team - the whole team from Brian to Robert the sales rep to the crew - just very easy and pleasant to deal with. The one thing I would say is that the e-mail addresses didn't work - but contacting anyone via phone was easy. Due to unexpected work obligations, I had to call Brian from overseas to reschedule and it was no problem getting a hold of him (it was early here due to the time difference). I would highly recommend USA - for the product but more importantly for the ease with which you can do business and the peace of mind knowing that the whole team is invested in making sure your job is done right.
Description of Work: blown-in insulation in the attic (walk-up attic running the full length and width of the house); foam injection into all the exterior walls of the house and on all the walls between bedrooms and bathrooms. the attic was fitted with baffles to ensure proper air circulation.
