I should have never gone with these guys. From the start there were issues, which continued throughout my entire time interacting with them. I rarely give bad reviews on Angieslist, but my experience with USA Insulation was the worst experience I've had with a contractor. They made me feel like a difficult customer since I had to constantly contact them to figure out what was going on. There was very poor communication. When I scheduled an appointment for an estimate on insulating my attic, the sales guy called me and tried to make the appointment two hours earlier. I said "fine," and had to leave work early in order to get home in time for the appointment. The salesman wasn't there around the time he said - he ended up showing up two hours late. Thus it was a waste of my time and effort going out of my way to leave work early. I instantly thought the salesman was slimy. I got a bad vibe from him and I should have never followed up on the project after the initial quote. I decided to move forward with these guys since some family friends had told us about them after recently getting their attic insulated. I was hoping that if the project went well, I'd also have the guys insulated my walls. Also, during the estimate, I was surprised that the salesman said they'd use blown insulation since my building isn't close to a street. I asked him if that would be a problem since I was concerned about the distance and he said that it wouldn't be a problem at all. We scheduled an install date a month in advance. When the day arrived, I never received a phone call from them about when the workers would show up. I had to contact them myself to figure that out, which seemed pretty unprofessional. The workers arrived late and told me that the job was impossible to do since my building was set a ways away from the street. I called the salesman, pretty upset that a problem I had foreseen as being issue was in fact an issue. He told me that the workers meant it was impossible to do the job that day without the proper equipment but that they could reschedule and definitely do the job. I had wasted an entire vacation day from work waiting around for workmen whole couldn't do the job. The job was rescheduled a couple weeks later, but then I received an email from the salesman about a week later telling me that they couldn't do the job on the rescheduled date. Apparently a whole-house job was scheduled that day and since that job was a bigger one than our attic, it took priority over scheduling our project. I was upset again, but he said he'd give me a discount on the insulation job because of the scheduling issues. The new date didn't work with my schedule so the co-owner of my condo took time off from work to let the workers in. Apparently they were late again, and the workers told him the job couldn't be done. I didn't hear that the second attempt didn't work out until the afternoon from the co-owner. USA Insulation never contacted me or told me when they'd refund my money. I had to hound them for that info. Finally when I received the refund on the deposit, it was a huge relief. I was afraid these guys wouldn't refund my money since quite frankly, they seemed like a sketchy and unprofessional group. I'm shocked that they've received so many positive reviews. When I heard that the second attempt didn't work, I called the owner to figure out what happened. I was pretty upset, but he never apologized and said that they made a mistake. He said they had no way of knowing that my building would be such an issue, but quite frankly if he had actually listened to the workmen who have done plenty of insulating, and know the limitations of their equipment, this never would have been an issue. If he had listened to the workers the first time around, he wouldn't have continued to waste my time. Overall, this was an upsetting experience. I'm just glad they didn't damage my property during this whole process.
Description of Work: They were supposed to insulate my attic. After scheduling two appointments to do so, and taking time off from work, they ultimately never completed the project.

The team arrived a little later than promised, but once they were here they got right to work. Two men, one in the truck feeding the hopper, the other working the attic. They laid down tarps to cover the floor to the attic. Professional & courteous team. The only small complaint I have is that I have two attic accesses, and despite pointing this out with the estimater and the work crew, they managed to cover one entrance with 20" of insullation, thus making it useless. It is not the end of the world, but a little disappointing. Going from 8" of insulation to 18" (R60) has already made a noticeable difference in terms of keeping the 2nd story of the house cool when the afternoon sun beats down on the roof.
Description of Work: Added additional sprayed in fiberglass insulation to the attic. Objective was to improve the R factor, hopefully making it easier to cool our 2nd story on the summer.

Quick and straightforward visit. Company claims to do many insulating jobs where master bedroom is located over unconditioned garage. They drill holes in dry wall ceiling and blow insulation between joists. Price for 400 SF ceiling was over $3K which is more expensive than tearing down dry wall and installing new insulation so I will not be using them.

There were two employees, Jose and Lalo, and they did a great job from start to finish. They arrived on time on the scheduled day and did a walk through of the areas to be serviced. They put down protective tarps on the carpets and furniture to make sure they didn't make a mess. They finished the attic first, then did the crawl space and unfinished areas. They took about 4 hours to complete which was in line with the estimate. When they were done, they invited me to walk through and inspect the work which looked complete and professionally done. All work was completed as promised. I would hire USA Insulation again.

USA insulation showed up on time and got the job done in an efficient manner. They were professional and cleaned up after the job was done. Holes were placed every 3-4 feet and foam blown into the space between the dry wall and concrete. This was done since this part of my house had no insulation and the rooms were very cold during the winter. The rooms are not perfect but approx. 60-70 warmer now. My only gripe is they placed too much spackle over the holes and I had a difficult time sanding the wall to make them smooth; this created a lot of dust to clean up and took longer than I anticipated. Overall i'm pleased with the work.

This was an excellent experience all-around with USA Insulation. They promptly returned my phone calls and Mike came right out and provided me with an estimate right on the spot. The price for the insulation itself was cheaper than other estimates, however, my only gripe with pricing was with the extra services such as recessed lighting covers and the attic cap. Even still, they were willing to work with me on the pricing so I was not at all displeased. I was essentially paying for the convenience of not having to climb throughout my attic to do it myself. The workers were prompt and finished up in about 3 1/2 to 4 hours. I was not home for the install but they cleaned up perfectly and it was as if they were never there. It's difficult to tell if it is making a difference as our harsh winter has passed but time will tell when summer rolls in. Overall, I am very pleased with their services and would not hesitate to use USA Insulation again.

The team showed up on time, and they were all very courteous. They paid attention to detail, and were extremly thorough, even getting insulation into a very tight spot that we didn't think they'd be able to reach. They were there for approximately 10 hours, and did a good job of cleaning up afterwards. I could feel a differnce in inside temperature right away. Just wish I had done it sooner!

The company rep came on time, though he didn't bring his ladder in and asked for mine. He took measurements in attic, had me look up there myself though he never told me what the dimensions were. I was quoted $2/foot for attic insulation by phone. His quote was for the attic and for insulating the roof in the garage- $2400 verbally then he wrote down $2200 making it look like he was giving me a discount and stating "yeah, I told my boss to give me some flexibility because times are tough". He said that that was a great price with such low margins. After he left, I read the estimate and realized he never wrote down the square footage for the attic or garage. I asked him by phone (a few days later) what the attic measurements were, he said 500 sq ft. Being the math genius that I am, I asked how he arrived at $2200 when it should have been $1000 for attic and remainder for garage (a one car). He responded that there is a $1500 minimum for an attic though he never said that my 1000 sq foot attic was beneath the minimum. So here is this company, working in a smaller space, using less material and shorter time, basically asking me to pay for more than my job is worth. When I probed, he said he had to talk to his manager. I felt like I was at the car dealer. He called back to say his best price was now $1900 for the small attic and one car garage. So now I don't trust them at all and I see this company as the equivalent of a car dealership. Getting another estimate.

Mike came out for the estimate on January 31 and was very thorough about what would be done and how it would affect the comfort level of my home which varied tremendously depending on which floor you were on. Admittedly, the cost fact is high but it's foam people, you're getting the best of the best available insulation. My house was built in 1968 and to say the insulation used at the time wasn't working anymore would be an understatement. I had done plenty of research and foam was definitely the way to do. Foam is the only way to fill every nook and cranny. They arrived this morning, immediately got to work and by 1:30, they were done. They drilled very small holes through the exterior which once the foam was in place, they resealed using dyed mortar to match my existing mortar (I have a full brick façade front and back). I'll tell you, I looked when I came home and I couldn't really tell where they had drilled - I was pleasantly surprised. Along with the exterior walls, they also insulated our attic (with blown in insulation - 18 inches worth!!!) and installed a dome over the opening so that air won't escape. I can already tell a huge difference on the 3rd floor now that the attic is appropriately insulated. The other huge difference, I put my hand on the exterior wall and it wasn't cold like it has been this winter. I just can't convey how drafty walls can affect the comfort level - and now, I don't have to because there are no more drafts. Yes, this cost a lot but it's worth every penny in my opinion and it adds value to your home because the cost to heat and cool is lowered - a huge selling point when we decide to sell. The foam also has a sound deadening effect so that you don't hear as much outside noise as before - WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!! All in all, a worthwhile expense and experience. USA Insulation is a wonderful company who took the time to thoroughly explain the entire process, answered all my questions and performed the work with professionalism and attention to detail. I would highly recommend them to any and all!!

Mike Doolittle came to the house per the appointment time to survey the attic and give us an estimate. He told us the recommended amount of insulation for this area, described the products they use, told us how they seal the ceiling penetrations and explained the process they use in detail. He provided a detailed written estimate, including the Angie's list discount. He did not pressure us as I have experienced with some companies "if you sign the contract today this is the cost, if you don't sign today the cost will be X% more". I hate this business tactic. Mike was straight forward, this is the cost today or if you sign in the near future. I did sign the contract that day based on the reasonable cost, his straight forwardness and his low pressure salesmanship. The installation crew came on time. They explained exactly what they were going to do and covered all areas affected. They let come into the attic to show me how they sealed the ceiling penetrations and how much insulation they were blowing in. When the job was completed they asked me to look into the attic to make sure I was satisfied with their work. They did a very good job. The job was completed in the time frame they estimated and they completely cleaned up after themselves.

Workers were punctual, neat and polite. Some minor confusion about the installation of baffles was resolved. The estimator included their installation in the price estimate and said they were necessary, but it was agreed by the main office , the workers on site and me on the day of installation that they were not needed because our attic has no soffit vents. An adjustment to the estimate price was agreed to.
