We scheduled a FIOS installation and identified that we needed coax connections to enable this installation. With only a week of notice, Blue Jay came out to the property, provided an estimate, and then scheduled the work so that it would be complete prior to FIOS installation. While we were having them come out, we asked to install three ceiling fans in the upstairs bedrooms, and repair a lingering issue with one of our lightswitches. Blue Jay promised to get it all done in a day. Two electricians showed up on time and one joined them a short time later to make sure schedule was met. After surveying the situation, they determined that the first floor access was relatively simple - they brought the FIOS connection through the basement and up through the wall. The second floor connections could be established by running wires outside, but after consulting with me and evaluating the house they decided it was feasible to run two coax cables from the basement to the attic in a space adjacent to the HVAC return duct. They only needed to cut one hole in the wall to get through the second story floor - which they graciously put inside our hall closet where it wouldn't be visible. The lines both went into the attic, where they fished them down through the walls. Since one of the walls was under a cathedral ceiling, they did need to cut a hole in the wall to drill through a support beam. The ceiling fan installation went well. Blue Jay centered the fans in the room using plywood to anchor the fans and retained our existing outlet switches while (in two of the rooms) adding a light dimmer/fan switch. Note that I provided the fans, switches, and outlet (switch) plates. The smaller room fans were flush mounted, and the master room fan has a downrod (also customer provided). The downrod fan wobbled a little after Blue Jay left, but I figured out how to tighten it without much problem. The switch issue, they resolved very efficiently. When done, Blue Jay did a pretty good job cleaning up. They did use our vacuum and did not haul away trash, which was fine with me. There was a little more to clean up when they left. I also asked a couple of other questions regarding potential future projects which they answered, and they left a pull string in the corridor between the basement and the attic for any potential future wiring (so the wall wouldn't need to be recut.) Price-wise, it was a little more than I hoped but they did put in about 20 workhours, plus materials, for $1375, so in the end it was worth it. They were friendly and definitely focused on quality. Everything is working beautifully, so no problems with rework. I'll be calling them next time I need an electrician.
Description of Work: Blue Jay electric ran coaxial cable from the future location of a FIOS connection to three locations in the house - one on the first floor and two on the second floor. They also installed three ceiling fans (one on a vaulted ceiling) including two wall switches (the other operates by remote) and repaired a dual lightswitch that was not functioning properly.

I recently purchased a rental property that required some electrical updates (see above services performed list). After collecting four separate estimates from four separate electrical companies for the above listed work (Note: all the companies were found on Angie's List), BLUE JAY ELECTRIC, INC. gave me the best impression in terms of professionalism, manner, and price. I especially liked that BLUE JAY ELECTRIC, INC. provided me an itemized estimate so I could see what I was being charged for each service to be performed (see above services performed list). I recommend to all Angie's List members to always ask for itemized estimates. All the above work was done in a professional and timely manner. I will be employing BLUE JAY ELECTRIC, INC. for my future electrical needs and I would recommend this company to all Angie's List members.

They called back the same day and we scheduled for the next day. Keon arrived on time and got right to work. He took the time to explain to me why the extra wires were there and how to make the connections. He was professional, friendly and efficient. I would definitely use again.

My job was quoted by Jay over the phone and through email. Rich and Nick were scheduled to come around 8 AM. They called me in the morning and gave me an update of exactly when they would be arrived. That was starting off on the right foot with me because I think it is common courtesy to give a 15 minute warning before arrival. When they arrived, Rich and Nick realized the job was going to be harder than planned because the ceiling was plaster and not drywall. They still got the job done on time, but had to work a little harder to get out the door by 2:30. They tried to be as neat as they could and didn't scratch up our wood floor. The lights work great and the new hard wired smoke/carbon monoxide detectors are great! Thanks for a job well done and I look forward to working with them again on my next project!

I was replacing the orginal 40yr old oven and discovered that the orginal builders not only DID NOT connect the lower oven/cooktop and upper oven to a certified electrical outlet. But neither did they connent the two appliances to house power using the proper copper to aluminum connectors. Blue Jay Electric came expecting a simple plug install and found a little more work was needed. The first electrician was concerned with whether the install would require more extensive work and within about 15-20 minutes a more experienced electrician showed up with the proper connectors and confirmed the proper methods for the connection.
Description of Work: The company peformed installed an electrical connection for an oven/range.

Went great. Installer was friendly and a good sport with my young children, who were very interested in what he was doing . I'm sure some people may have felt the children being around could be a distraction but the installer that came was very friendly and didn't seem to mind them watching and calling "hello up there" when he was in the attic. The job looks great and was everything I had hoped it would be.

Keon and Eric came out on the 14th to do the job. They did everything on the work list; plus they had to purchase and install a new outdoor light, since the existing one was faulty, and they provided the new sconce for the basement stairway. They did an excellent job and there was no additional charge. We were very satisfied John and Joanne
Description of Work: Jay came out on the 6th of January and went over the work we wanted done;this included new outside lights, plus repairing an existing outside light, plus switching 2 prong-ungrounded receptacles to three prong (8) and putting the line which I use for electronics (computer, scanner, printer, etc) on an independent circuit; and installing a new light at the top of the steps to the basement. They would also install a GFI breaker in the main bathroom.

Very well. Jay (the owner) has an efficient office person who responded promptly with emails and return phone calls. Jay himself called me to set up the estimate appointment, which was scheduled for a Sat. The only glitch was that one of his workers called me Sat. morning and said he'd had a flat tire and wouldn't be able to make it. However, we rescheduled for Sunday morning. The actual work took place the following Friday and Saturday (the weekend after Thanksgiving) with Jay himself coming out to do the job. He was personable and efficient. Note: I had put in calls to four other electricians, and Blue Jay Elec. was the only company to follow through and actually come out to estimate my job.

They did a great job -- and were a lot faster than we were about it! Next time we need electrical work done, we're calling Blue Jay Electric rather than trying to do it ourselves.
Description of Work: After attempting to update a few electrical outlets in one of our bedrooms and having the lights oscillate for reasons we could not figure out, we decided to call a pro. Blue Jay Electric corrected our wiring mistakes in that room, replaced several other worn outlets and two fire alarms.

Because of the location of my circuit breaker box, it was difficult to describe over the phone the work that needed to be done. Blue Jay came out prompltly to give me an estimate (scheduled at a convenient time for me). The electrician, Rich, who arrived to do the job was thorough, took my preferences into consideration in terms of where he installed the wiring, was very neat both in terms of the wiring work and clean up. X I had asked for a number of estimates from other contractors so I know the price was very reasonable for the work that needed to be done.

The whole story of this call would take too long to document, it involves an intermittent short in a buried wire to a post lamb, a wide walkway laid in paving bricks and a failed attempt at do-it-yourself electician work. The important details are that they communicated that an earlier call was taking longer than expected and gave me the option of rescheduling. The owner showed up to understand the problem before the serviceman arrived and both of them worked at least an hour to solve the problem once and for all. All for much less than I expected to pay. I now have an electician I will call anytime I need work done.

The electrician did a great job. Punctuality was an issue as the installer was late getting to my house. However, it appeared that he did notify the office of the delay due to the previous job going longer than expected but no one contacted me. I contacted the office and found out about the delay. Therefore, I cannot fault the electrician. I would ask for the same electrician again. Once he got to my home, he worked quickly to make up the time but was careful to do it right. I found out that installing a dedicated microwave outlet is not as easy as it sounds. My circuit box is in an awkward location in my garage. This required some maneuvering to get the wiring up through the floor and into the necessary location.
Description of Work: Installed an over the range microwave electrical outlet. Created another outlet in an area above newly installed kitchen cabinets.

Again, Rich and Keon went above and beyond for us. They arrived on time and got to work immediately changing all of our old wall sockets and light switches and putting in two additional wall sockets in each hallway. They replaced one ceiling fan in our daughters bedroom and installed two additional ceiling fans, one in the master bed room and one in the small office. They started at about 7:45am and finished up before 3:00pm. Rich and Keon have done work for us in the past (they changed out our ancient electrical panel and replaced it with a brand new electrical panel in May 2009). These guys are top notch, no nonsense, get the job done. The president of the company (Jay Outland) came by to deliver some parts for them and he was a great guy too. This is a great company to do business with. We highly recommend them for all of your electrical needs.

Wonderful! Got an appointment almost right away and the price for the work was below 3 other estimates. Jay gave me a call when the electrician was on his way - which I liked very much. Electrician (I believe his name was Keon) was on-time (almost to the minute - nice!) and he did a great job explaining how he was going to install the ceiling fan. The job took about 90 minutes and he cleaned-up after the work. He then showed me how the fan worked - which was a nice touch. I think I found a keeper electrical company!

It went great. Jay showed up promptly to discuss the quote, and then they quickly scheduled a visit to do the work. Richie and Zach did an excellent, professional job, and finished a difficult job in one day. Richie was very careful to be clean and tidy, and I really appreciated his devotion to making the whole job look good. I like when a company clearly has pride in its work, and Richie definitely took pride in making sure I was happy with his work. I will be using Blue Jay again for my next project (already scheduled).

Keon and Zack arrived on time. I instructed them to install a ceiling fan in the Master bedroom. There was no existing electrical wiring so they had to add it through the attic. They asked where I wanted the fan and I showed them a place on the ceiling over where the master bed will be going. I wish they would have made me think about this harder, I wish I had the fan installed in the middle of the room. I take responsibility for this though, they did install the fan exactly where I showed them. Keon did suggest a speed control to be placed on the wall, so the fan speed could be controlled from the wall. This was $25 extra and well worth the cost. They cleaned up the mess after they were finished.
