I love this company! They were very professional, extremely hard working, and priced very fair. I was a project engineer for a construction firm years ago and I know an excellent contractor when I work with them.

We had a great experience Keon... a 7-year veteran working w/ Blue Jay. He showed up right on time and really went above and beyond! The fan I had purchased was not compatible w/ the light switch - so he went to a nearby Home Depot with me and helped me pick out a new fan. The quality of workmanship... and his pleasant personality really made this project a pleasure. As for the new outlet... we were able to run a wire along the wall - just above our baseboard - to avoid making holes in the plaster. And it came out great. Looks like part of the floor moulding. And it works great! Five stars all around. We couldn't be more pleased. I gave them a "B" on price only because I got a few quotes from companies that could have done the job for $100 cheaper. But overall, I'm glad we stuck with Blue Jay - for the experience and result we got!
Description of Work: Installed a ceiling fan in our bedroom. Added a new receptacle to baby's bedroom.

.They are marvellous. They know what they are doing. I have had them several times. I found them on Angies List. They are professional electricians. This house came with just the basics and Blue Jay Electric Inc did a lot of work for us. They had to put in a bigger box to cover the dishwasher, microwave, stoves and all. They had the computer room done and I wanted a light put in by the kitchen door. They are nice. They are polite and they are fair. They talk to you. They know what they are doing. Their price is competitive. They are always busy but they come when I call them. They are punctual. I will keep using them in the future.
Description of Work: I had Blue Jay Electric Inc to put in lights in the attic, in the work shed outside, put in more switches up and down the staircase. They also had put in a bigger electrical box.

The entire experience was excellent. Someone came out, as scheduled, to provide an estimate for the services. My only "complaint" was that it took one or two days longer than stated to receive the estimate. I received the estimate on a Wednesday and scheduled for service the following Tuesday. I was told the person would come between 10 am and 12 pm. At 10:40 the gentleman showed up and apologized that he didn't call me - he stated that he was given an incorrect contact number for me and was glad I was home. In no way did this negatively affect my view of the service call. The gentleman (and, a bit later, his co-worker) quickly got everything installed to specification (in under 2 hours!). They were polite, courteous and I would definitely ask them to come back and do work for us in the future.
Description of Work: In our guest bedroom we had the electrical outlet (currently controlled by a switch) be changed so that it's hot all the time. Additionally, we had them install a light fixture that is run by the room's light switch. Also asked them to leave wiring available in case we decide to switch the fixture to a fan in the future. In the nursery, we asked that the same exact thing be done as above, only that they install a fan and not a fixture.

Keon, from Blue Jay, was waiting for me when I arrived at the rental property even though I was 5 minutes early. We discussed what I wanted done and what, if any, options I had. I thought that I might have a 220 line installed and switch the stove in the apt. from gas to electric. Keon reviewed the existing electrical service and advised that as it was only a 60 amp service installing an electric stove was not advisable. Keon installed a new 110v line & receptacle in the apt. Work was done quickly and professionally. Overall price, with Angie's List discount, seemed very fair. I have extensive work planned in other rental properties and plan to use Blue Jay again.
Description of Work: I had Blue Jay come to one of my older rental properties to install a new line & receptacle for a gas stove with electronic ignition.

Very good experience. The electrician was punctual, helpful and knowledgeable. The fixture (chandelier) to be installed was old and was missing a part to attach to the electric component in the ceiling. The electrician drove to a supply shop and was able to locate a part/structure that would work and enable the installation. Would use Blue Jay Electric for any electrical-related tasks/jobs. They are responsive and smart and professional.

I moved into a 1937 semi-detached about a year ago without realizing the house was seriously short on electrical outlets, with most rooms only having one, and bathrooms only having outlets in the light fixtures. I got a glowing referral for Blue Jay from a friend so I called them first for an estimate. Jay came out the next day and discussed what was possible with my old brick house with plaster walls. He listened to what was really important to me, and made suggestions of the best way to do it. He told me when something would be difficult and offered alternatives where he could. He never made it sound like the job would be too much for him. The estimate seemed very fair considering the amount of work he'd have to do, but I did due diligence and called several other electricians who were highly rated by Angie's List. Everyone else, upon hearing the age of my home and the extent of the work, made it sound as if this would be too difficult a job and that they did not want to do it. One gave an estimate over the phone, but told me a proper estimate would cost one hour worth of labor, another said it would be cost prohibitive because of lead paint abatement. Considering my friend's recommendation and so far positive experience I decided to go with Blue Jay. Once I'd signed the contract, it took a little over a week to get a date scheduled, but once that was done everything went great. Jay's son and apprentice was here bright and early to get work started and Jay followed a few hours later. I was amazed they could get everything done with almost no damage to my plaster walls. Jay knew it would be difficult to get an outlet in my front bedroom brick wall, but he also knew it was really important to me, and he made it happen. When it proved impossible to get an outlet into my kitchen wall for the dishwasher (previously powered by an extension cord running under my cabinets) they hardwired it and gave me wiring for a disposal if I should want one in the future. I know this job required a lot of creative thinking, but these guys figured it out. They removed a couple of yucky old telephone receptacles without charge. Jay and his son also noticed a hot wire in one of my light switches that was not connected to anything and fixed it. Additionally, they installed a light fixture and ceiling fan for me that were not part of the original estimate. There were a couple of things that couldn't be finished in the first day, but Jay came back the next and got everything done. Overall, I am very, very pleased, and am looking forward to being able to use a hairdryer in my bathroom, as well as living in rooms that are not crisscrossed with extension cords.
Description of Work: Added GFI receptacles in 2 bathrooms and kitchen. Hardwired dishwasher and installed wiring for future disposal. Added receptacle to living room and two guest bedrooms. Added 2 receptacles to master bedroom. Installed ceiling fan in guest room. Changed out light fixture in bathroom and added switch. Removed old telephone outlets.

The owner of this company, Jay, is a man of his word. When he originally came to bid the job, he quoted for the installation of the interlinked smoke detectors, the recessed light, & the attic fan. During the installation, they had to run a wire from my attic to my basement by going through the soffit. As it turns out, they were unable to use the first hole they drilled in the soffit. Jay paid for me to have that repaired. Another surprise that came up was that the wiring in my attic was illegal. The previous owner had connected my HVAC and the attic fan to the same 240 volt electrical line. Because there was no easy was to run a new wire, the best solution was to put a new subpanel in my attic. The 240 volt electrical line connected to subpanel and from there I can have 6 breakers and up to 15 amps. Jay didn't charge me for the labor for this additional job & only charged for the part. he was very fair and responded to problems in a very satisfactory way. No job can go perfect, and I don't expect it to, what I expect is for a company to stand behind their work and do a good job. Blue Jay electric is that type of company and I highly recommend them. I plan on using them in the future.

Rich showed up exactly when he said he would, and got right to work assessing the situation. He talked us through the entire plan and even advised us on the best light switches to use to operate both the fan and the light (he was even able to swing us a really good deal on switches that originally cost $65 - $75 a piece). He was in and out in about 4 hours, which was exactly the amount of time he estimated. He was very tidy and made sure to clean up any mess or debris before he left. The estimate was pretty much on the mark for what it actually cost us - it was a little more than the original estimate due to the upgraded light switches we opted to go with, which makes sense. Rich is an extremely nice and honest guy and really knows what he's doing. We would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: Rich came out and installed two ceiling fans in our upstairs bedrooms. There was no existing wiring in the ceiling, so he had to install all the wiring along with the fans.

The remote control on our ceiling fan was not working. Blue Jay came out and explained it was battery-operated-our mistake-- but neither they nor we had the correct battery. So they left and we replaced the battery. Still didn't work. We purchased a new remote, but still couldn't get it to work. They came back out and got it to work, but after they left, the remote wouldn't change the fan speed. We called them, and they returned the same day and replaced the receiver(?) at no extra charge. Both the electricians, Keon first, then Rich, were polite, professional and on time.

They were great and I honestly feel that they were trying to do the right thing for me. Even if they did not have a chance to charge us for any work.
Description of Work: We had a problem with the wiring for our air conditioner. They were able to find the disconnected wire that was damaged by the hardwood floor re-finishers. They didn't charge us a thing. We will definitely use them in the future. They were aggressive in finding the problem and then said you need to have the flooring guys pay for this! How often does a company say that you can save money? They will be be my first choice for any future problem.

After searching for an electrician on Angie's List, we decided to give Blue Jay a call. Our overall experience was positive and we would hire Blue Jay again if we need more electrical work. We met with Rich to discuss the plan of work. He provided an estimate electronically in a timely manner with a detailed list of the proposed work. We hired Rich and felt comfortable allowing Rich and his team to enter and perform the work at our house using a lock box while we were out. We were happy with the communication with Rob throughout his day of work; he contacted us with questions and to discuss a change in the original work plan to better accommodate a GFI in the guest bathroom. We were pleased with the work; everything on the list was completed to satisfaction and the house was left clean.
Description of Work: -Install washer & dryer receptacles in the basement -Replace bathroom GFI & add GFI circuit to guest bath -Rework GFI near panel -Relocate 4-5 receptacles -Replace 3 receptacles that had been painted over

The first time I used them, he rewired and hanged a ceiling fan and light in sun room. It was wonderful. He was on time, everything worked, and he had to be creative to get the job done. He also performed this at a fair price. He did such a great job, that I asked for him for the second time when I had more work to be done. The second time, he redid some wiring for some accent lights. He purchased new lights and fixed the wiring. He also moved a thermostat for a new home we were going to.

My husband and I recently bought a townhouse that needed to have the old electrical panel replaced. We have used Blue Jay for previous work and have always had great experiences. This time, Jay sent Rich Walls out to do the job. He arrived promptly as scheduled and got the job done with no fuss or muss. Rich worked with surgical precision to change out a scary Federal Pacific panel into a brand-new Square D panel. Like a surgery, the job took several hours, but when Rich was done, the panel wiring was so neat and pretty, I had to take a picture of it. All the switches were perfectly labeled -- it is truly a work of art. Rich, you really are a rock star!

I have employed Blue Jay Electric on several occasions and have always been very satisfied with this company's work quality and professionalism. I was equally impressed this most recent occasion. The above work was completed in a very timely manner. I chose Blue Jay Electric out of three electrical companies I received estimates for because Blue Jay Electric had a slightly lower price and I was comfortable with Blue Jay Electric due to my previous positive experiences with this electrical company. I would recommend that all members requiring electrical work at least call this company for an estimate before choosing an electrical company.
Description of Work: 1) Replace existing "Federal Pacific" panel with a "Square D" 100 amp panel and new circuit breakers. 2) Install three (3) hardwired smoke/carbon monoxide detectors (one (1) on each floor). 3) Install three (3) cable TV outlets (one (1) on each floor).

Blue Jay electric performed a superior job. They were very professional and their estimate, which they stuck to, was about half of what another A rated company had quoted. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: We had upgraded the power to our home that was built in 1925. We hadn't run the power to the 2nd floor or attic where we wanted to install air-conditioning. Blue Jay electric did this and recommend installing an additional circuit box. We also had asked that the cable be run inside the walls. They said that they could but recommended that we run the cable along side another cable where it is hardly anymore noticeable than the original cable alone. This saved cutting into the walls and the attic floor which used to be a bedroom, All this and they added a upgrading the bathroom to a dedicated circuit. They put two outlets in each of 3 bedroom each bedroom on its own circuit and put a dedicated circuit for a future air-conditioner. They vacuumed where they put in the outlets and everywhere else they cut. The job took slightly over a day.

Great experience. Crew was awesome. On time. Polite, patient, expedient. They didn't cut corners, and were attentive to things like the aesthetics of exposed wire in the basement, and the appearance of the run. They did a great job of cleanup and even offered to haul some trash carpet remnants I had found in the attic when we were up there. I will certainly use them again. Had the pleasure of working with Mr Collins and Dacor.
Description of Work: Ran three circuits from basement to attic. Fished lines so only 1 hole needed to be cut. Spent a while doing detective work, trying to figure out very old house wiring (was really confusing). Ran low voltage lines to attic from basement via separate route.

It went great! Jay is a really nice person. We initially called him to so an estimate on fixing our doorbell, and it was so simple he just went ahead and fixed it for free. We then called him to do more electrical work and he arrived in the window of time he said he would. The work went smoothly! We'd definitely call Blue Jay again!
Description of Work: Hardwired 2 smoke detectors with battery backup, replaced attic ventilator fan, and rewired a loose cable in the backyard.
