The initial reason I called Blue Jay Electric was to see if someone could suggest ways to stop our hard-wired smoke alarm from going off randomly in the middle of the night. There were two other electrical projects that needed attention: replacing a bathroom exhaust fan and repairing a ceiling bulb fixture in the utility room. I spoke with Tracy who consulted with owner Jay Outland and got back to me via email. We set an initial date (Good Friday as it happened) and Tracy gave me the options for the exhaust fan based on the size of the powder room. She included the price for supplying and installing the fan as well. Two days before the scheduled date, Tracy emailed to explain that because they would be short handed on Good Friday, they would need to reschedule. She was very apologetic and since the smoke alarm had stopped chirping, there wasn't the same urgency as before. We set the date for April 20th between 10 - 12. Jay called at around 10:30 to say they were running late and if coming between 12 and 1 would be OK. I agreed and he arrived at 12:50. He explained that he would get started and that Eric would be on his way shortly. He said that we had done everything to address the smoke alarm situation and agreed with us that changes in temperature and humidity often cause this annoying problem. He re-attached the alarm and had Eric tighten the housing. Next on the list: exhaust fan and light fixture. Eric did a very neat job of replacing the fan, securing it to existing pipes. When I mentioned that the plan was to paint the room, he explained how to lower the cover of the fan so we could paint the ceiling without painting over the cover. Meanwhile, Jay had figured out how to repair the light bulb fixture in the utility room and connect it to the other fixture so that now they're both controlled by the same switch. No more doing laundry in semi-darkness! The price was very reasonable and using the Angie's List coupon saved us $25. The whole experience was everything you could hope for: punctual, communicative, professional, and knowledgeable electricians who were also very congenial. Tracy deserves special mention since she is the all important first contact and provided great customer service. I highly recommend this company and now consider them 'my electricians!'

They were very professional. They were excellent in every way. Since they had to go into my attic I thought it was worth it to spend that much to have the lights installed. The quality of the work was also worthwhile.

They were prompt and prepared. When they encountered a few unexpected issues, they handled them very well, doing whatever was needed to get the work done, quickly and professionally. They assisted with the follow up with inspectors and BGE. I am very happy with their work and would definitely work with them again.

Keon and Zack showed up and introduced themselves. We did an initial tour of the house and then they started right to work. They worked continuously with a sense of purpose. I was impressed on their precision and professionalism. Overall, they did a great job and cleaned up after the job.

Jay came out to give an estimate which was a fair price. Decided on Blue Jay because of reputation on Angie's List and quality of panel used.. Rich and Zach came out to perform the work. Both were courteous and Rich explained everyting in detail on the work to be performed. He kept me up to date on the progress as the day went by.. They were'nt able to complete the job in one day, but came back early the next day before I went to work get finish the job. I'l be doing some remoldling soon and I would definately call Blue Jay to perform the electtrical work for me.

Jay came out to give us an estimate the very next morning after I called the office. He was knowledgeable and friendly. He explained everything we would need to "heavy up" our system and agreed to get us an estimate as soon as possible. That was a Friday morning and we had a very competetive estimate via e-mail the following Monday. I called back to schedule the work and they were able to schedule it for the following week. Rich and Zack showed up exactly on time the day the work was done. They were professional and friendly and completed the upgrade to the circuit box in one day. Rich was very knowledgeable and thorough and explained what they were doing as they went along. Zach was very patient and respectful and he and Rich made a great team. They both took care to get things exactly right and even discovered and fixed a potenially serious problem with the wiring to the heat pump They came back the next day again exactly on time and completed the installation of the light fixtures. Everything looks great and again they left things looking like they had never been there. I will definitely call Blue Jay anytime I need any electrical work done and I will recommend them to everyone I know.

Excellent! Rich followed up with phone calls letting me know where he was and when he would arrive the morning of the appointment - they arrived on time. They know their business and performed the job in a matter of 20 or so minutes, explaining to me what he had done and what caused the issue. Neat and professional. Such a great feeling to know that another company/industry takes customer service seriously. I would definitely use them again. Thanks guys!

Our electrical work went very well. We have used Blue Jay for at least 8 years now. Jay Outland is great to deal with and we're happy to use his company's service. We always request Eric Collins as his attention to detail is important to us and appreciated. He is always neat, professional, trustworthy and willing to work with us and discuss our options. He's also been very kind and patient when I am indecisive and has kindly moved fixtures for me until I have been pleased.

Rich was punctual and did a quick and thorough job of replacing a GFI outlet and repaired the lighting in a china cabinet. He was very courteous and professional. I would definitely use Blue Jay Electric again.

Our electrician, Keon, was wonderful. Professional, friendly, considerate.... He did the work beautifully and , I'm not used to this, swept up after he was finished.

Blue Jay Electric has been fantastic to work with! We found them through Angie's List since they were a Service Award Winner -- and, we see why -- their customer service has been above and beyond! We hired them to complete a variety of electrical tasks throughout the house -- from replacing faulty outlets and switches, to running the wiring for a new bathroom in the lower level, to installing a new vent fan in the bathroom on the lower level, to replacing a broken ceiling fan on an 18 foot ceiling. In total, we have had Blue Jay complete work in our home on three separate occasions since December. They were so pleasant to work with and did such a great job that they are now our go-to electricians!

Jay (owner) called back promptly, asked great questions, described what he thought was the issue, told me who would come, when the tech would come, and that he would do the simple work and then assess if more work needed to be done. The tech, Keon, was phenomenal. Prompt, courteous, friendly, explained what he did, provided insightful info (outlet flamed out because there was some paint on the outlet!), and gave very detailed answers. These cats at Blue Jay are great. If you're in the Columbia/Ellicott City area, call them! I am super satisfied. This was my first experience with Angie's List, and it exceeded my expectations!

Wow is the only word to describe this company. Can't say enough about this company's responsiveness, expertise and professionalism, from Jay who took my trouble call to Keon who performed the service. I had two dead electrical receptacles in my living room and Blue Jay came out the day I called for service. My kitchen installer had rewired the receptacles in my kitchen, and when two receptacles in the living room no longer worked he thought it was due to overamping and fried wires caused by a microwave being plugged in. Keon quickly diagnosed the problem as an insufficient splice in one of the kitchen receptacles, rather than a problem in the living room receptacles, and rewired the kitchen outlet which restored power to the living room outlets. He could not have been more thorough, efficient and professional. Thanks to Blue Jay - I will recommend them to friends, family and everyone I know.

Great company. Jay was quick, prompt, and made sure I got my Angie's List discount. I had a short in my attic fan, which he quickly diagnosed, crawled up and disconnected the fan. He gave me a quote for replacing the fan but also told me that it was easy to do and I could do it myself a lot cheaper if I bought a fan at Home Depot - which I then did. I'm so happy to have someone reliable and honest that I can call for any electrical problems - I will never use another electrician!

Everything went as planned. They arrived when they said they would be here. I was 20 minutes late in returning home but they waited until I returned from doctors visit. Things went very smooth---no issues---price charged was exactly as verbally stated over the phone for the work. They were great---would definitely use their services again. Highly recommend them for your electrical work.

They electricians, headed by Richie, arrived promptly, reviewed the job, and set to work. Due to the complexity and the promise that work would be substantially completed within a single day, they called in a second crew and work moved ahead quickly. They were finished by mid-afternoon and Richie then stayed to demonstrate the functionality of the new circuits; and assure that everything was cleaned up appropriately and that we were completely satisfied. Due to an inability to guarantee plug compatibility on the 220 circuit, Richie deferred payment on a small portion of the final bill until the kiln to be used is in place and the proper receptacle can be mounted. He assured us that he would personally be available to promptly complete this task...and we fully accept his assurance.

This is the second time that I have used this company. Based on my first experience, I did not hesitate to call them again. I called the company during the holidays, and still received a call back from the owner the next day. I explained the work needed, and he set it up for the first week that everyone was back from vacation. The electrician, RIch, came to my house on a Friday afternoon, actually staying late on his work day to accommodate mine. He was gracious and efficient. He even disassembled and turned a tricky shade when I wasn't happy with the look of the seam. (Such a small thing, and a big pain for someone who should have been off work, but he indulged me nevertheless.) I'm delighted with the new fixture, and with Rich's work. I will continue to call Blue Jay for any and all electrical issues. As an Angie's List customer, I received $25 off the service performed. Nice.

I needed to update the electrical system in my house. I thought that meant rewiring the whole place. I called Blue Jay Electric. They were extremely prompt and professional in handling my call. The receptionist asked if I would be willing to wait an extra week for an estimate. If I did that, then the owner of the company would be able to assess the job and be sure that things were handled properly. I did wait a week, and that was the only waiting I did. After Jay's estimate, we were able to decide on a mutually convenient time, and they did the work within the week. It only took a little over half a day. Keon was the electrician who came to my house. He was prompt, polite, efficient and patient. He didn't even seem to mind when I sprung a couple of extra outlets on him, though I had called Jay. He finished the work with no mess, and little disruption to my home. He was outstanding, overall. This company is excellent, and I have no reservations about calling them to perform any electrical service in my house.

I called the office and left a message. Jay returned my call within the hour and scheduled an appointment for the next day. Rich arrived on time, was personable, professional and curteous. There was no major work to be performed just some tripped circuit breakers. Rich also reset my pool control box which I have been unable to master in the five years since it was installed. I asked Rich about a project my husband and I have thought about and within less than five minutes he gave me two possible senarios and approximate costs barring complications. After he left I did a little happy dance. I had previously paid another company $150.00 for a consultation on the same project and they came back the next day with the same solutions for twice the price. Thank you Blue Jay Electric!

I liked their job. They came in on time. They knew what they were doing. They worked quickly.

Got an estimate from Jay and scheduled someone to come out a week later. Rich arrived a few minutes early and he brought his equipment in and I showed him around and I asked if it was ok to leave and he said sure thing and I left. Rich called an hour later saying he may need to goto Home Depot to get some more supplies because the space to install the panel was not big. He luckily didn't need to tear down any drywall and he installed the panel successfully. Everything was smooth and efficient. Jay thought it would take 5-6 hours, it took about 4 1/2 to do everything, so that was nice. Rich was great to work with and look forward to working with him in the future if need be. Whenever I have electrical issues I will call Blue Jay. Thanks!
