The gentleman from Abbott's Plumbing was pleasant and polite. He did a great job, and told us to let them know if any problems arose. He was also very punctual. The company also sent us a follow-up letter as well as a phone call thanking us for their business. Very nice touch in this day and age (and we weren't the ones who "hired" them, they were contracted). They also included a coupon for future service.
Description of Work: Abbott's Plumbing was the plumbing company contracted by our electrical contractor when we had an automatic standby generator installed. Abbott's Plumbing did the plumbing hook-up for the gas meter.

Excellent! I had had a very bad experience with another company. The person who did the tiling did not install the correct spacers after removing the floor under layment and laying tile directly on concrete. This left the flange to high, so rather that add shims, he mounted the toilet at a slant. The toilet wax ring broke seal and I was getting sewer gas in the basement bathroom. Abbot was kind enough to send one of their top guys over from another job as an emergency favor to lower the flange and install a new wax ring.

In our search for a plumber, we initially reached out to Glenoak Plumbing and spoke with Robert Boccia. Robert was a great resource and talked us through some initial steps we should take given our plumbing situation which was sewer water backing up into our basement shower. He encouraged us to call the County (Baltimore) and ask them to come clean out our main line to see if that alone would take care of our problem. While it took the better part of the day to get the County out to our house, it was FREE and worth doing. When this didn't solve our plumbing issue, we called Robert back just before 5 p.m. to see if he could squeeze us in that night or the following day, but our schedules didn't line up in a way that would make it work for us to hire him for the job. Thankfully, Robert referred us to Abbott's Plumbing, a company he had worked for previously. The process of working with Abbott's Plumbing was a breeze; they were able to work around my work schedule, were in constant communication the day of the service and arrived at the front-end of the window of time they were scheduled for (actually early!), which worked out well. The technician was very thorough in assessing our problem, and when it came time to talk through his plan for fixing the backed-up line, he laid out all of the options and let me choose. I never felt pressured to go one way or the other. I was faced with a challenge: Option 1 involved cutting a 12" x 12" hole in the middle of the wall of our finished basement to access the clean-out and snake the pipe roughly 30 feet to the County sewer line. This was due to the fact that the previous homeowners completely walled off all access to the main clean-out--not the way to refinish a basement! Option 2 was messier and involved pulling off the toilet, dealing with more water in our already water-logged bathroom, and snaking the pipe more than 60 feet to the County sewer line. I chose Option 1 with the understanding that the hole they were cutting would be the prettiest hole I had ever seen, as well as leaving us with something to work with when we want to create an access panel later on. Two hours later, with two guys working on it, the job was complete. They found some small roots and blockage in the pipe, but nothing of major concern. They sucked up all the water in the bathroom and the only trace that they were there was the hole in my wall--a small price to pay to now be able to have easy access to the clean-out pipe! I felt that their pricing was fair and they accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. I would highly recommend Abbott's Plumbing in the future. They gave us peace of mind, were totally upfront and honest, and seemed to have our best interest at heart.
Description of Work: A hole was cut in our wall to access the main clean out pipe of the house. The clean out pipe in our basement was snaked and cleaned out to the country sewer line connection.

Personable estimator arrived on time (without getting lost!) and maintained contact throughout the job. Different teams of workmen came on the scene as the job progressed. First, the dismantling of old pipes, disposal of debris, the coping with the inevitable dust-while providing for minimal disruption to daily activities. New tubs, toilets, lighting fixtures, and ceramic tile installations followed-provided by various people within their own specialties.

I was very happy with the plumbing part of it. They had a sub-contractor put in a shower and do some tile work. I was very unhappy with the work of the sub-contractor. The tile does not look good. I had to call Abbott's plumbing and they did come back to the house twice. After the tile guy finished the second time he put the shower doors on backwards. A second sub-contractor came out to fix the doors. The tile still is not exactly right. Abbott did come back everything I said something was wrong so I do credit them for that. I would recommend them for plumbing work but not for anything else.
Description of Work: I had them remodel my bathroom and do some other work. They re-did the plumbing, installed the shower, and put in tile in the bathroom. They also replaced a broken pipe in the front yard and installed a new kitchen sink.

Overall, the experience was great from the standpoint of not having to remove the tree.
Description of Work: Replaced main sewer line from house to street, replaced water line, installed 2 clean-outs. Job was very challenging as the sewer line ran under brick pathway and steps and a 70 yr. old maple tree. Managed to dig a deep hole in front of and back of tree and "sleeve" the new pipe through the old clay pipe without any damage to the tree. Estimates from two other companies were higher than Abbott's and they refused to do the job unless the tree was removed. Tim, the owner, Jeff, the main plumber and their team were professional, courteous and on budget. Extremely pleased!

It was supposed to be more efficient. I don't think it works any better than the one I had. This one is now leaking. He did two toilets; they did not do the toilet in my half bath. They did do the job. The price was so exorbitant. They installed a new disposal for me that I purchased through Sears. It bothers me and worries me to use it because it vibrates so much when I first turn it on. I don't use it because I think it will cause another problem.

Overall, they did what they were supposed to do, but they left a disaster in our front yard. We have sinkholes, cracking mud and a completely unlevel yard. They did come back out to try and fix it when we called about the sinkholes, but just poured fill dirl into two holes and didn't try to level it off again. My neighbor had her supply line replaced last year and her yard was left without grass but not destroyed! At one point in the repair, the plumber wanted to take down a large branch of my magnolia tree vs move his digger two feet over. There were also some minor issues with professionalism and communication. We still needed another plumber to come in and fix pipes that were broken in the replacement of the basement pipes.Overall, they were very responsive and did the job, but the details of the work were not as good as we had hoped for the price and the sales pitch they gave.

I had called another company who never showed up and then called them after that. I called them late Friday evening and they came out first thing Saturday morning ad 8 AM. I'm very pleased with their promptness and professionalism. I would highly recommend them.

My husband researched many different types of tankless heaters and contacted several different plumbers for installation. We wanted someone who knew tankless heaters - not all plumbers do! We found one brand that we liked and found that Abbott's was an authorized servicer and installer for them. We got quotes on two different models - there was a bit of confusion on the model numbers as the manufacturer recently changed their model numbers but it got worked out. Abbott's also told us we needed gas regulators on all our applicances (which we didn't know) and a gas line upgrade (which we did know). None of the other plumbers told us about the gas regulators. Overall, Abbott's was very knowledgable of what was needed and kept us informed along the way, coordinating the work with the permits, BGE etc. The actual work was very tidy and looks great. They were always punctual and in fact, call at 7 am to confirm their arrival. There were one or two minor bumps along the way but Tim was very responsive, highly professional and courteous and in fact offered to fix something that another unrelated workman has broken.

I won’t call them again. The water pipe from my house to the street was leaking, so they dug up the front yard and replaced it. They did not call the county or town and let them know that they were fixing a new line. They took forever to try and dig down and turn of the water supply because they could not disconnect from it and put a new pipe, until they did that and they were complaining about that. I called the county and told them and they said that they did not tell them. There was a dispute with the county, but they fixed it and I thought that was unprofessional. I thought that their price was high. It hadn’t leaked since and I fixed a couple of things and they also left holes in my yard.

In my initial dealings with Abbotts, I found their servicemen to be prompt and professional, and while their estimates were sometimes higher, I connected with the plumber they sent on the calls, so I continued to call them with my problems. I even allowed that plumber to install a basic toilet for $800 because I needed it quickly. Although, I felt somewhat taken advantage of with the price of the emergency toilet replacement, I felt that I was at least getting good service, so I just paid for it. Last year, however, after a major flood in my basement, the same plumber convinced me to replace an existing working sump pump, install a second sump pump in a stairwell (complete with drain, pipes and electrical outlet), rent a backhoe to dig up my yard from the street to the corner of my home and replace all the existing underground drainage pipes, as he suspected a clog and/or cracked pipe. Before moving forward with the quoted $10,000 job, I happened to run into someone from another company who asked me whether Abbott's had tried to free any possible clogs by using a powerhose at the base of the drain. They had not. The other company was able to unclog the underground pipes in 30 minutes and charged me $250 for their time. When I called Abbott's to cancel the backhoe and tell them what had happened, the response was "you didn't ask us to try that." Against my better judgment, I had Abbott's install the second sump pump and required pipes to prevent further flooding in my basement, and paid them $3000. Fast forward to this Labor Day, (less than a year after our initial flood) when our family returned from vacation to find that our basement had flooded again because the sump pump in the stairwell that Abbott's had installed had failed. Apparently Abbott's had failed to properly secure the pump with clamps, so vibrations from the pump caused the float mechanism to malfunction and shut itself off, in addition to other issues with the size of the drain they created and the necessary power of the pump to be effective. When I called Abbott's to ask if they would compensate me in some way for my ruined new carpet, and ineffective installation, they said they guarantee their work. They sent a plumber out who looked at the pump, but would not comment to me except to argue to me that the pump was working properly, which was untrue. I called Sam, the manager, who refused to replace the pump or compensate me in any way. When I told him that I would have to take action after all I had paid for his service, his response was "have a nice day."
Description of Work: Abbotts replaced a toilet on my third floor, replaced an existing sump pump, added a second sump pump (including a drain and electrical service outlet, and additional piping), cleared a kitchen sink drain clog, and recommended having my front yard excavated to replace existing underground pipes leading from the street to my home.

Very satisfied with the service. Although they were a contractor for the installation of this hot water heater, I would call them directly if I had plumbing needs in the future.
Description of Work: We purchased a 40 gallon gas water heater which included installation. Abbott's Plumbing was the contractor working for the store where we bought it and they performed the installation. The $800 was the total price for the water heater, other parts, permit, disposal and installation (without new water shut-off valve). (The store where we purchased it quoted the installation costs at $249 when asked to breakdown the total charge). Abbott's plumber arrived on time with the water heater and saw that they might have to install a new water shut-off because of the position of the expansion tank (which we did not have on our old unit) that is now required on new units. He told my husband how much it would be ($89) if he had to install the shut-off, which proved necessary. Very pleased with the efficiency of the plumber and assistant. They were finished within three hours.

I had a leak in my upstairs bathroom pipe and it was leaking into my first floor. I called Abbott to come out on the same day to take a look. The person on the phone was very courteous and the plumber was able to come by my home within a few hours. The plumber was very friendly and professional, and was able to diagnose the problem quickly and efficiently. However, the prices for the fixes were too high and I felt I needed to get another plumbing company to look at it. In the end, I went with another company to fix the issue for about half of Abbott's estimated price. Overall, the service was great and they are very knowledgeable and competent but the price for their repair services was too high.
