J & D Handyman Service LLC

First, it took forever for him for him to come the job. He was originally supposed to show up about a week ago. He never showed up or called. I had to track him down and he told me a story about his truck breaking down. Finally I was able to reach him, and told him to give me a day and time or I would call the Better Business Bureau. Finally he gave me a time for yesterday. He got here and the first thing he did was tell me the room was too big and that I owe him more money if I wanted the work done. We finally agreed to a price of an additional $200 for the trim and ceiling. Now I am going to have to repaint because the job was done so bad. There are portions of it that he did not paint at all on the trim. Somehow he broke the toilet in my bathroom. There is a large area where he simply did not paint, and in other areas there are blotches that I have to cover up. Normally I have had nothing but good experiences with companies on Angies's List, and this is the worst experience I have had for any home repair or painting. This company is unreliable, unprofessional, and should never be used by anybody.

The Angie’s “Big Deal’ offer was for ‘4 hours of drywall/plaster repair.’ J and D Handyman spent only enough time on the job to repair some damage to a ceiling where the roof leaked, and the wall directly below, perhaps an hour and a half. When they arrived and Jerome (of J and D) looked at the work that needed to be done, he announced I was ‘lucky’ they had drywall with them. Lucky? They were hired for drywall/plaster repair. It was the beginning of a strange experience. I had to leave after they were there for about an hour and a half. At that point Jerome told me there wasn’t enough time left in the 4 hours to do anything but finish the repair that was then almost done. When I suggested he at least make a start repairing the ceiling in the bathroom he said he didn’t have the material, and further he would not start the job because it would take more than the time remaining to complete the work. Based on the time it took to fix the ceiling/wall in the 1st room, that simply was not true. In addition, the work that was done was sloppy. Certainly I’ll need to hire someone else to smooth out the bumps and ridges. He also left a large trash bag full of trash from the job and 2 large boxes with half eaten hamburgers (and trimmings) in the parking area in the back of the house (which attracted rodents). I don’t know if Jerome and the 2 men working with him had lunch at my house after I left, or perhaps they cleaned out their truck and left the trash and garbage for me to dispose of. There was also a partially used sheet of drywall that they could have used to finish the job that they left undone. While they were there, I paid J and D $150 to point the inside of 2 closets. That work though was not done through Angie’s List, so I am not including it in the complaint. As I was leaving Jerome said that since he was not far away, he could come back on a Saturday and finish the work. Despite the messages I left, I have never heard from him again. J and D worked about half the time they contacted for then walked off, and their work was poor.

Unsatisfactory. I emailed and they called me back on my home number, left voice mail. I called and left message. No response. I emailed again. No response.

My experience with this company was perfect. I wish I had more painting so I could hire these guys! I will definitely recommend them to others. When I purchased the Big Deal, I was prepared to wait for the painting given the high demand/response rate. Jerome answered his phone the first time I called. He immediately scheduled me for about a month and a half out (again, this was expected). I reached out to him a few days before the project to find out what he needed me to do. He was very specific and helpful and it was easy to prepare for this job. He and his crew arrived promptly at 8AM the day of the painting. And, impressively, the were done before noon! And, most importantly, the paint job was impeccable. I am very, very, VERY pleased with their work. The guys were kind, courteous, and very clean and tidy. A little thing I appreciated was when they removed my electrical switch/outlet plates, they left the screws in tact so neither they nor I would lose them. Again, that was a little thing but I think it lends itself to how conscientious the guys were. I thought their quote of $300 to do a stairway and a hallway, where I have lots of trim, doors, etc., was very reasonable. And the Angie's Big Deal was a steal at $120. If you have the opportunity to use these guys, I think the odds that you will be happy are pretty good! Thank you, Jerome, for the great work!

After numerous attempts to reach someone at this company with no response, I utilized the services of another handyman service. J&D finally responded a week later. Not acceptable.

I normally like to leave great glowing reviews. I am saddened that in this case I can not. I had electrical work done and so need to have the holes that were left patched in preparation for painting. I called Jamal in April and was informed that the earliest day available was in June. But then he came back and said he could send a couple people on April 25th around noon. I called the Sunday before and left messages giving my home number as I was going to be working from home that week. Wednesday rolls around and no show no call. When I got back to the office I found a message. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and he offered to reschedule for 10:30 Saturday May 5th. So I cancel my plans. May 5th rolls around and this time he calls me at home (so I know he has the number) and tells me he has a flood in his basement. So we reschedule yet again for 10:30 Saturday May 5th (today). This time No Show No Call. I have called both numbers and left messages with no response. At this point I just want a refund so I can have the work completed by someone else.

J&D exceeded my expectation. I purchased a big-deal discount for 2-hours of exterior handyman services from JW Home Improvement. After receiving pre-paid purchase confirmation from Angie's list, I contacted JW to schedule the service. JW informed me that contrary the information in Angie's list website they do not work in my location and suggested that I contact Angie's list for refund. I called another handyman, who did return my call. I then called J&D and talked with Jerome. When I explained my situation and needs, he said he would match the big-deal discount price I previously purchased even though his big-deal discount was higher. Jerome and his team arrived as schedule and completed the work in a timely and professional manner.

It is with tremendous pleasure that I sing the praises of J & D Handyman Service llc. I hired them out on a Big Deal special for two hours of Drywall repairs. I had a few different areas of the house that needed drywall repairs and figured that two hours would be sufficient time to complete the work. Jerome, the owner of the company came with Jesse, one of his workers, at the scheduled time and immediately set up shop. After hearing what I needed done, Jerome told me that he would not need the entire two hours to complete all of the work and asked me if there was other work around the house that I would need done, between coats. I was incredibly grateful for his honesty and decency in telling me this, because frankly, I would not have known this and he could have very well sat around in between coats, filling up the time. He told me that he was a handyman and that he could just about anything and he was right! In a whirl he went straight to work ? in two hours, he completed all of the drywalling, installed a ceiling fan, two sets of door knobs and locks (and one required serious repairs to the door in order to install), and installed a corkboard to the wall in my office (which ended up being no easy feat either). Jerome and Jesse left the place cleaner than they found it and the work was really well-done! When I had learned that Jerome was also a painter, I hired him on the spot to return to paint several rooms my house. He warned me that we would have to schedule this work for a few months down the road, as he was fully booked. We worked it out so that he could come and do a few rooms at a time, when openings appeared on his schedule. So far he has completed the dining room, kitchen, family room, and my hallway and it looks FANTASTIC! What I really appreciated was that after painting the house, he even returned to the house to do some touch-ups and would not leave till I was perfectly happy with the job AND that I was. While we both knew that he would be returning down the road to paint some other rooms, I called him SOS when some tiles in my shower fell off in the guest bathroom and with my parents arriving a few days later. He came the very next morning and did an AMAZING job repairing the tiles and stayed on to help me with a clogged pipe in my kitchen. I was more than pleased. In addition to being very knowledgeable and a hard worker, Jerome is polite, honest and fair. He is SUPER patient and open to teaching his clients and learning and I know that I can count on him to do a good job and at a reasonable price. He is my one stop handyman shop and I shall call him for any jobs I need done around the house.

Jerome came out the first time to do the job and discovered he couldn't do the job at hand without his truck. There was quite a big of drywall that needed to be packed up and hauled away. Because of this, I asked him to do a handful of odd jobs instead this time around. I asked him to apply the remaining 2 hours of this job to the additional coupon I had purchased giving me 6hrs remaining for Jerome to take care of this job. Since then he has been a combination of entirely unresponsive and non-committal. It seems there is always an excuse that he cannot come back to finish the job. It has been months and I am just tired of dealing with it.

It was great. They showed up early and confirmed the appointment the day before. I pointed out four drywall issues I had. They fixed these and found others on there way out and repaired these. They noticed some door stops that were not connected and fixed these as well. There were cracks in the drywall they repaired (I didn't notice).

I purchased the Angie's list deal for J&D Handyman Services about 2 months ago. I called right away to set up the appointment to have them come out. They were quick to get back to me but couldn't do the job for a couple of months because they were so booked from the deal they were offering. We didn't mind waiting since the holes has already been their for a couple of years. Jerome called me this morning to confirm the time they were going to be here and the directions. They arrived exactly on time and finished the work in a little less than two hours which is what I had paid for. Their work was great. They were very neat and cleaned up after the repair was done. Jerome and his crew were all extremely friendly and polite. I would definitely hire them in the future and recommend them to others. I am very satisfied.

J&D Handyman Services were prompt in coming out and providing the services. They were professional and I was very pleased with the services that were provided. They also fixed the sink stopper at no additional cost! I will definitely use their services again as well as recommend this company to family and friends.

The services was great! Jerome is the name of the manager and is very courteous, he made sure they cleaned up all their mess. They went out of their way to answer any questions and were very punctual.

Stay Away from this company / guy. I booked this appointment 1 month in advance. He Never called a day in advance to confirm the appointment we had setup prior no problem right? were still awaiting him the following day. The next day the guy called at 7am To confirm the appointment but went to our voicemail. He said since we did not answer the phone that morning he canceled our appointment even though we booked it a month in advance and were awaiting him. Our appointment at 10am why is someone canceling it without our consent at 7am? Talk about poor work ethics. So we try to rearrange another time for him to come out. That never happened. I called him twice he never followed up nor did he care. His mannerism are pretty terrible too. If your looking to get a job done, seriously continue your search cause this guy will only delay your project on your task. There many other great companies out there and this guy isn't one of them.

They were FANTASTIC!! they showed up ON TIME, exactly at 8am as promised. They put down plastic to protect the floors, did a great job on the drywall AND cleaned up after themselves! I would DEFINITELY recommend Jerome!

I arranged for drywall repair through an Angie's List coupon for drywall repair. I contacted the service, arranged the repair visit for about three weeks later. The 2 handymen arrived on time, they made repairs to the drywall in several places, cleaned up after themselves with my vacuum.The work was done very well.I would use them again.

They called and asked if they could come early and I said yes. Showed up when they said they would and two-man crew had job done in about one hour. Jerome also noticed by stairwell railing was loose where it connected to the hardwood floor. He fixed it in five minutes.

Jerome and 2 other gentlemen showed up 15 minutes early (yay!) I needed some drywall patched from electrical work that opened a ceiling. They replaced it with new drywall and it's ready to be painted. They also repaired some plaster that was cracked in the earthquake last summer. They were extremely polite and very hardworking. They got right to work, worked quickly, and cleaned up when they were done. Wish all contractors did the same.

Arrived as schedule did work quickly did not leave a mess and was very polite and professional.\ Will bring him back to do another project soon
