It was basically a few phone conversations attempting to understand what they would do and trying to schedule a date.

I purchased services on line from the Angie's List Big Deal because we needed some miscellaneous work done around the house. After I made the purchase, I called to make an appointment. The earliest they could schedule me was in a month in a half. I would have liked services earlier, but I scheduled anyway. They showed up on time and I had a list of things for them to do. They got through most of the list, but when their time was about up, they said they needed more time/money/supplies. I talked with them a little more and they continued to finish their work with the supplies that I had.

We purchased the deals and on the day of the appointment they called and stated they would not be able to make it out for the appointment. We tried to contact J&D a couple of times and never received a returned call back from them so we actually got a refund for the deals through Angie's List. We later heard from the owner who came out and stated he would complete the work at the same price we had originally paid for the deals. He will be out this Wednesday to complete the work.
Description of Work: I purchased two Big Deals through J&D Handyman Service. One was for $120 for 4 Hours of Drywall/Plaster Repair or 1 Room of Paint. And the 2nd was $199 for 8 Man Hours of Wallpaper Removal & Drywall/Plaster.

The job went well. One thing, the deal was for up to four hours, but apparently only for one repair. The repair as performed took about 1 1/2 hours. I would like to have used the other 2 1/2 hours for two smaller repairs. But I hadn't mention it previously when we discussed the jobs specs. Guess that was my fault.
Description of Work: A two man team from J & D Services arrived on time and provided drywall repair services.I had taken two walls down to open the space into one large room. The job was to repair demo damage to a 4 'x 8' area down one wall, a 2 'x 20' section across the ceiling, and an 18 "x 8' section down the opposite wall. Specifically the job was to repair nail holes and rough sections so that it was ready to sand and paint. There were no major holes or damage that needed repair. Someone else was to do the painting.

Jerome and his crew did a good job and ultimately I am happy with the end product. I was not happy with the difficulty I had communicating with Jerome to schedule the work to be performed. I was also urged to leave a check for the balance due rather than getting an invoice, not the way I like to do business. Once again, I am as equally frustrated with Anige's List and the fine print of the Big Deal coupons. While Jerome and I were negotiating the completion of the work, the fine print was pointed out and it required additional money to complete the job.
Description of Work: My one car garage never had the drywall finished. Over the course of using 3 Big Deal coupons and paying additional labor cost, I finally got the drywall finished and painted.

I can't comment on the quality of their work because they never seem to show up. After having them take forever to get bvack to me after I bought The Big Deal coupon I scheduled them to come to the house do do the work. They didn't show up. I called and they said, "Oh, we have it down for another day." We rescheduled. Then the hurricane hit (obviously not their fault. They did call a day in advance to say that they wanted to reschedule and that they would call after the hurricane was over to do so...they never did. I had to call them back to reschedule. We set the new work date for Monday, Nov 26 from 10 to 3:00. I waited at home until 2:00 and then called and left a voice mail (you can never get them directly). They called back to say that they had it on their calendar for Wednesday. They told me they could do it on Thursday but would have to check and call me back...they haven't called me back. I'm sick of this and have asked for my money back. I've noticed that others that have used them have said that they have had a hard time scheduling these guys. I know what they mean.

The first problem was that they were over an hour early. I know that's better than being late, but I wasn't even at home. Good thing my elderly mother was here to let them in, but she said that the guys were quite agitated that I wasn't at home. I was told they'd be coming between 11 and 11:30 in the morning, yet they arrived shortly before 10. That's ridiculously early. I wonder if no one had been home if I would have lost my appointment. They did a terrific job patching the large holes in the ceiling, mostly because my electrician had left the cut-out pieces for them to use. However, they left two large screw holes totally undone. I didn't notice until they left because the mud was still wet and I thought it was just a flaw that would dry out. No, it was two holes that were not filled at all. The holes were not hidden, either. They were right in the area where they had been working. Part of my kitchen ceiling is tearing because the cabinets attached to it were at one time filled with heavy items. They told me how long it would take to fix this. I had no intention of fixing it because we are saving to redo the kitchen later, and I told them so. But after they left I noticed that a half-hearted attempt to fix the cracks had been done, and they'd gotten mud all over my wall paint, even though I'd told them not to do anything to that area. The ceiling work took approximately 35 minutes. After this they went out to their truck. I had no idea if they were coming back in or not, and they weren't done, so I went outside to talk to them. I said I paid for 4 hours work (two guys X two hours each) and could they please paint a small powder room for me? They said that the offer was for four hours of drywall repair OR painting one room. Fair enough, but my drywall repair took only 35 minutes. I would have discussed this with the office when scheduling, but I had no idea my ceiling could be repaired so quickly. It seemed reasonable to me that they could use the remaining 85 minutes to do some painting. I even told them they needn't finish because I just needed help with the painting project. After some reluctance on their part, they agreed to paint just the trim in the bathroom. They put on one little thin coat. I don't think they even stirred the paint in the can before applying it. They did not make a mess in there, but they also did not paint all the surfaces of the trim. I wouldn't have complained about the shoddy work on the painting (since I hadn't specified I wanted painting done ahead of time) if they hadn't done such a poor job in the kitchen, missing two holes and ruining my wall paint. Now I have to climb up there (I have ten foot ceilings) and paint over that mud. I also have to spackle the two holes they missed--after I've already paid to have it done. On top of everything else, they didn't say goodbye or ask me to inspect their work. They just left. I didn't even realize they had gone until it was too late to square things up with them. If I had checked their work while they were still here we could have resolved some of this, but they just put away their stuff and drove off. Every single other company I've used through Angie's List has talked with me at length after the end of the project to make sure I was satisfied before they left. The other companies also gave me estimates for what work still needed to be done. This did not happen here. The men were very courteous, easy to talk with, and they did clean up well. I just don't think their work was worth the money at all. I will not use this company again.

He said he'd be here around 7 a.m. and arrived then. The work began immediately. "I cut the corners," said Jerome, "and my helper does the rolling." At 9:15 they were finished and began cleaning up the areas. Giving it a quick inspection, I pointed out there were several areas where the primed sub-surface showed through on the window wall.. Jerome looked at them and agreed, saying, "My helper thought I had rolled it, and I thought he had." It required several passes with the roller to cover. "We're running low on paint," said Jerome. I pointed out a corner area that was barely covered. "Oh," said Jerome, "that's where the installers used silicone and it won't take the paint." He brushed on another coat to show me, and now, hours later, the paint continues to stick. After they left, I found an area 1" wide over the kitchen/dining room door that was left unpainted sigh As a bonus (!?), random trim was spottingly painted too. Jerome offered, "Now all you have to do is paint the trim." I guess I'll have to.
Description of Work: Jerome came out and looked at a kitchen and basement room for painting the walls several weeks ago. The downstairs was over the size (250 sq. ft) covered in the Big Deal coupon and we agreed on an additional $100. charge. He told me to buy two gallons of paint for the downstairs and one gallon for the kitchen.

Great - definitely would recommend him to others.
Description of Work: I bought 2 of the plaster/paint specials which I thought bought me 8 hours of either - it turns out it was only 8 hours for plaster/drywall, which I didn't need. The painting did not cover the trim, which cost me more money. Jerome was very friendly and responsive and, despite 1.5 hours later than first expected, did an extremely professional job. I had a 20 foot ceiling over stairs and even though the special only called for 9' ceilings, he was able to do it without problems, curring the corners and edges well and sanding where I asked him to. Even with the extra cost I thought it was worthwhile. I would definitely use him again.

I received the work as a result of the Angie's "Big Deal" groupon service. The team, which included the owner, seemed to realize it was a small job pretty quickly and just did the work to get and get out. After they left, there was paint in a few areas where it should not have been, there were brush marks near the bottom of the wall under the sink, and patches left undone.

We hired J & D Handyman Service LLC with the help of an Angie's List coupon offer. We chose this company because the reviews stood out - the reviews were accurate. It was easy to schedule a date to complete our recreation room project about 30 days out. On the scheduled appointment date to perform the drywall repairs, Jerome was timely on arrival and very professional. Jerome completed all repairs requested to our satisfaction, efficiently and thoroughly. We were extremely happy that we hired J & D Handyman Service LLC to complete this project and would definitely hire the company again.
Description of Work: We hired J & D Handyman Service LLC to complete our recreation room project by providing professional drywall repair services. J & D Handyman Service LLC repaired approximately seven (7) small holes in the ceiling as the result from installing five (5) recessed lights and repaired two (2) "opening" around light fixtures in a bathroom. I don't remember the lead guy's name but they did show up on time, I'll give them that, but that's about all they did well. Their idea of plaster repair was to basically "re-mud" the damaged part of the ceiling. Alll they really did was spackle it - which I could have done for about $15 worth of spackle. The job that previous contractors told me would take 3-4 hours, took these guys about 20 minutes. Then they tried to leave. I made them stay and found other wall repair that needed to be addressed. Everytime they completed even the simplest of tasks, they tried to leave. I had to stop them from leaving several times because they were trying to scoot out the door without saying anything to me. I even had to remind them that I had paid for 4 hours of their time. Then I was told that in reality the Big Deal was really for 2 hours time for 2 men. I've reviewed the original ad and my receipt, it clearly says 4 consecutive hours and does not mention how many workers that covers. I eventually ran out of jobs for them to do and had to let them leave. Since I expected their work on the main task to take much longer than it did, I didn't have the materials pre-staged to keep them working all 4 hours (which he probably wouldn't have honored anyway). The entire time they were in my house, the lead guy made every effort to upsell me on everything and drum up new business for himself. Too bad for him that the way to get my repeat business is to do a good job for me the first time. He can do anything for a price apparently, except the one thing I actually paid him to do. I feel totally cheated and basically wasted $120 for half-assed work I could have done myself. Lesson learned. That is the reason I gave him such a low rating. To add insult to inury, the materials he used to patch my ceiling left a stain so pervasive that it's still bleeding through 2 coats of primer and 5 coats of high quality ceiling paint (which is thicker than wall paint). And because he used cheap materials and I had to apply so many coats of paint, the weight is causing the ceiling to bubble and peel in some places. I have a feeling I'm stuck with that ugly stain, the peeling paint, that horrible look of my hall ceiling unless I call a reputable contractor to come cut the peice out and replace it entirely.
Description of Work: I bought an Angie's List Big Deal for 4 consecutive hours of plaster or drywall repair or painting. Really I needed plaster repair for a large section of my ceiling that was damaged from a previous leak that was there when I bought the house.

I bought the deal and wanted the work done in August but they couldn't schedule until November. That was fine though. I told the owner that it was a small room and he agreed to do the ceiling as well. He called the day before as a reminder and two painters arrived the next day on time. The two workmen were nice enough and recommended using flat paint instead of semi-gloss. When I told them that their boss had agreed to paint the ceiling as part of the deal, they didn't believe me. They said they called the boss and he said not to paint the ceiling for part of the deal but that they could do it for an extra $50. It's a 5 x 8 room and the walls and ceiling were being painted with the same white paint! They also then informed me they wouldn't do the trim or the cabinets. To me that's like an editor saying he'll proof the report but not the footnotes or bibliography. They applied one coat of paint on the walls though two was clearly needed. It was a total waste of money since I had to do another coat myself as well as the trim. Very disappointing deal!
Description of Work: I bought a Angie's deal for painting a room for $120. I wanted my 5 x 8 laundry room painted. I guess the fine print stated that a room doesn't include the trim, the ceiling or the cabinets. So I paid an extra $50 to have them do the ceiling and still had to do the trim and cabinets myself. So I did the hard stuff and they spent an hour applying one coat of paint I bought to four wall with no windows. Real tough. I applied a second coat later since the first coat didn't cover.
