J&D were on time, professional and performed quality work. I would use them again.

Difficult to get a hold of a live person to make an appointment (answering machine). Finally agreed upon time & date and they showed up a little early. Said coupon was for repair, not putting up a drywall ceiling, but owner and one helper did that work while another mudded and sanded some drywall patching I had done. I provided drywall but since I did not have seams for wall corners they did not do that. Worked quickly and were gone. Difficult to get any drywall job done in one session since needs to dry and resand so keep that in mind. Flexible, professional, but like most contractors - want to do the quick and easy job and move on.

With a coupon offer from Angie's list, I made an appointment with J&D Handyman Service to do several jobs around my home. They called twice to ensure that the appointment time was still good. They arrived on time and were very polite and professional. They went right to work. They recommended power washing before calking my outdoor stairs because otherwise, the calk would not hold very long. They did a beautiful job power washing, but in the process, they realized that the drain was clogged. They unclogged the drain at no additional charge. I ran out of calk,so the used their own. They also hung two ceiling fans, calked all of the tubs and showers and painted a bathroom. They were paid by the hour and worked very efficiently. I was extremely pleased with their work. I felt that they deserved every dollar of their pay. I even gave them a tip.

It is hard to get someone to come out for a small job, so this Angie's List offer was perfect. We didn't need them for four hours, as was the offer, but it was worth it just to get someone to come out and do it. The guys were professional, pleasant, and they cleaned up all their mess. The one thing they didn't do was to sand the area after they mudded it. If they had, it would have been ready for a quick paint and we'd be done. We haven't gotten around to sanding it, so we haven't gotten around to painting it.....procrastination!

The group was very prompt, with multiple people working simultaneously. I have been working on my own home quite a bit, and I learned some pointers about painting and plastering. Easy to work with, fast, cleaned us the area before leaving.

Drywall repair from roof leaks. Went well, no complaints

I had to call many times to arrange an appointment. From what I recall it was not easy to set up an appointment. It looked like they were really busy from the big deal. Before the came in I suggested to the manager that he stop by to take a look at the work involved. He said he would try to stop by but did not. When they finally came to do the work I had the impression they would be able to fix different areas, where the drywall was damaged. But, it went slower than that, and they were not available to spend extra time to finish fixing all the areas. They did not have enough time to really finish any specific area nicely, since drywall plaster takes time to dry. It would have been nice if I had the option to have them there longer but they had to go to their next job. I would have liked to seen more progress. After using other contractors, comparing their work to the work done by J&D I think some of the other contractors did better work and did it faster.

The painters arrived promptly and went to work immediately. They were able to vary their usual order of painting to accommodate that fact that more paint had to be purchased due to my miscalculation. Paint coverage was complete with just minor skips. Clean up was thorough. I experienced a minor problem in communication with the company. We asked for a delay from the original scheduled date. It took three calls and two voice mail messages requesting a call back to establish the new date.

Purchased a special deal through Angie's list. Repeated phone calls went unanswered - when I finally did speak with someone they were less than helpful - finally called A-L and was refunded the cost of the coupon. A-L folks I dealt with were great.

There was some difficulty communicating effectively. E-mails unanswered, phone tag. Pictures were taken of damaged area and a request made for a list of needed materials. An appointment was finally made, and kept, however despite detailed pictures having been sent, on day of appointment , after viewing the area of damage I was told a pipe had to be relocated. A day taken off from work wasted. Required work was done. A Saturday appointment was made and kept. Work was performed in a satisfactory fashion.

Making an appointment was the only hitch in the entire process, and it may have had to do with my initial phone message not getting picked up somehow. When I called back and spoke to Jerome (I think), he was very nice and we set up an appointment date and time. Two workers showed up as agreed upon and my husband happened to be home to explain the list we had made. They handled everything quickly and efficiently and were pleasant to deal with. My husband said they did a great job, and I'm relieved to have these tasks finally out of the way. I would highly recommend J & D Handyman Service.

The company was quick to respond to my call after my purchase of the Angie's List special. They patched up several areas in my home quickly and professionally. The work was done to my satisfaction and I would use them again.

I made several attempts to contact them by phone and e-mail besides 1 response asking me for the coupon number. I never heard back from them and I offered several different dates to try and be flexible for them. So I ended up just cancelling the deal.

J & D did such a great job. Very smooth finish, making the painting I did after so easy. Very impressive work. It was quite some time ago. I'm estimating the service date. I was hoping they would do more work for me. I sent the owner an e-mail (per his request) with other more handyman projects so I could get an estimate. I never heard back.

I failed to realize that the room was larger than described in the ad for $120.00.I have 2 walls longer than 9 ft. even though 1 has a large window and the other a door. I ended up paying for "2 coupons" or $240.00 plus paint, which was equivalent to the price I paid another painter for my other bedroom. Reggie called Sun. evening ( the night before) to confirm the appt. and arrived on time the next morning. He and his partner worked efficiently and carefully, and had completed 2 coats of paint in 11/2 hrs! He was very polite, professional and friendly. They moved the heavy furniture for me and kept the electrical plate screws organized as a prior reviewer stated. At the time, I was happy to have the hole fixed so quickly and for a reasonable amount of money. The owner and his employees were friendly and respectful. I wasn't happy, however, that the owner asked me to complete an "Angie's List Recommendation" right on the spot and said they'd take care of posting it. It's the first time I've used Angie's List so I wasn't sure if that was proper protocol. I complied, but felt a bit pressured to write a positive review, which I did. In retrospect, I had very mixed feelings about the service. While I was pleased with the price and how quickly the repair took, I was not happy with the clean up job (drywall and plaster dust on the floor, rug and walls) and more importantly, with the way the ceiling looked after it dried. The repaired area on the ceiling does not blend in smoothly with the rest of the ceiling. Perhaps we can fix it with additional sanding....but we shouldn't have to.

They did a great job. They were on time, worked diligently and quickly and the quality was great. I was very happy.

J&D Handyman Service was responsive, prompt and efficient. This was part of a Angie's List deal, which J&D Handyman completed in short order, well ahead of schedule. The only change I would make would be to plan for additional projects, and factor in the drying times when mudding, so that the total amount of time was utilized.

Pros: - Responded promptly by email and chose a date quickly - Arrived on time - Polite and personable - Moved treadmill for us Cons: -When Jerome arrived, he immediately said the space was too big to fit the coupon. Apparently the "big deal" was for 250 sq feet of wall space, which he described as a small bathroom. I still have not seen "250 sq. feet" anywhere on any of our communication, nor the coupon. I noticed other reviews mentioning this issue and if we missed this fine print, it is our fault. But before arriving, Jerome never mentioned this 250 sq. feet limit until arrival. If this were the only issue, I would have been moderately satisfied, blaming myself for not reading but this was only the beginning of our problems. -Ended up paying $320 total for one room of paint, no ceiling, no trim. Two men were here for 1 hour. So apparently, 2 hours (1 hr. x 2 men) of paint costs $320 when 4 hours of handy work costs $120. -In the past, when professional painters have done work for us, they call us in as they are finishing and have us look over their work and ask to see if they are any spots they could improve. They were packed up and out the door and said "We're done," before we even had a chance to look at the room. -If I were to grade the cutting in, it would be an F. There are 10-15 spots that were missed, paint on the ceiling - an overall sloppy job. The work was done hastily and it shows. -They used every last drop of the 2 gallons of paint we bought and I know the job did not require that much paint. We painted a similar size room with 1 gallon and 1 quart with two coats. This left us no paint to correct his mistakes and they are numerous. -They managed to spill paint on our TV stand that was covered by two sheets in the middle of the room. They also splattered paint on our treadmill which they did not bother to put a drop cloth on. -They patched screw holes for us, which we did not ask them to do as they were holes for our blinds, yet they didn't patch all of the holes. Overall, between the cost, the time they spent here, the fact that they did not stand by their work, and the quality of the work done, I would never think about using J & D again.

From the beginning there was a bit of "haggling" about the price. I was told that the size of bedroom might be too big --even though it is quite small and we had completely emptied the room. I was told that it didn't include a double coat of paint , though the terms stated differently. I was informed that it did not include ceiling or trim --which was a great surprise, though that was in the fine print which I missed. He "threw" in the floor trim paint as he "wanted us to be happy with the work.". However, there were sections that did not receive the second coat of paint. And to top it off, they left with a brand new $20 paintbrush that we had purchased that week. That was in the bedroom with the cans of paint. I contacted Jerome about the issues: missing second coat in areas, and missing paintbrush. He apologized and said he would send a check to cover the cost of the brush.. after several follow up calls to him and no response, I have given up.

I called J&D a couple days after I bought the sale offer on Angie's List. They were able to schedule me for that following weekend - within five days. He arrived on time, talked about my requirements in person, answered questions about the best ways to secure doors, and replaced three locks. He was in and out probably less than an hour.

The first appointment was made, he called the morning of the appointment and said he couldn't come. We rescheduled for another day, he did not show. After many emails, I agreed to let them do the work I originally wanted them to do because I didn't really want to give them a bad rating on Angie's LIst. They came in, spent an hour repairing the drywall I wanted repaired. It involved removing paneling. They offered to remove the rest of the paneling so I removed all the electrical outlets and moved furniture away from the walls, but they did not remove it (not sure why). I had paid for four hours of work but I did get the minimum I work I had asked for. I think you need to be very very very clear about what you want done and to get your money's worth. I took two days off work (the first missed appointment and the second appointment) for this service and while the work performed was satisfactory, I do feel a little like they left and could easily have done more work, which I thought they were going to do.

I called the company before I purchased their services during an Angie's List Big Deal to make sure they could perform the work I needed and to make sure they service my area. They said they could perform the work and they service my area (it was also on their listing that they service my town). Based upon that, i purchased 2 of the Big Deals (the representative from the company said they would need 8 hrs and each Big Deal was for 4 hours). I then called and scheduled the appt through the company. My husband arranged his schedule to make sure he would be home the day of the appt. The night before the appointment, I received a call from the company and was told that they were too far away and would not service my area. Angie's List did refund me the money but it was still a very frustrating experience.
