J & D Handyman Service LLC

I needed some plaster cracks repaired and the room painted. I bought two $120 coupons. The 3 guys did the plaster repair and prepped some spots with Kilz on a Monday and let it all dry for a few days. They returned on Friday to paint and showed up on time on both days. The plaster work was fine, but the painting was somewhat sloppy. They put on only one coat and left some uncovered spots. I pointed out some bare spots, which they fixed, but some I discovered after they had left. They did not tape at the ceiling or trim, so the borders are not crisp. (They told me they were so experienced that they didn't need to use tape.) I had them paint the ceiling and trim, which cost an additional $240, so a very small room cost nearly $500. That seemed a bit pricey to me. NLT, the guys were very friendly and worked very fast, and the room looks waaaay better than when they started.

I called/emailed and never heard back after several months. I requested a refund, as a result. My project is still not done.

They repaired some water stained marks on my ceiling. They came in laid down papers and did the work in 15 minutes and then advised to call me again once I have additional work for them. They were very professional and very responsive. He felt he did not give me enough work for the value of my coupon purchase and I will be calling them again soon for some other work.

I contacted him by email twice--once in June 2012, and the second time in August 2012 after getting the Angie's List deal, but never received a reply, so I gave up and requested a refund from Angie's List. I suppose I live too far from his service area although no such stipulation was made in the Angie's List deal.

I purchased the "big deal" for $120 for 4 man-hours of work. They were courteous and helpful with my questions on the phone. Jerome was friendly, quick, and courteous when they did the work as well. Overall, he and his co-worker did a great job and I am happy with their work. Also, when the compound dried, I then noticed that the work was a bit rough in places. I called Jerome, and he came out to look at it. When he looked at it, he clearly didn't want to re-finish the work, and he believed it would be fine once sanded. I explained to him that I was nervous about the results, and he was willing to come back and re-finish the work. This was excellent professionalism and integrity. Despite all of this, I had to give them a C for punctuality only because Jerome missed his appointments with me entirely- twice. He had told me each time that he would call me the day before, and never did for any of the appointments. However, this type of call is normally a courtesy to the customer to ensure that THEY will be home, not the other way around. So I assumed he would still arrive to work as scheduled. When he missed, he never called, and I had to call him to let him know he had missed the following day each time. On both occasions, he arrived promptly and accurately for the rescheduled appointment time, which restored my faith in this company. Hopefully, J & D will work hard to improve their scheduling and not miss any more appointments. But just in case, I would recommend that you call him the day before to confirm. Because aside from the occasional no-show problem, this company is friendly and works hard.

They seemed very rushed - on an insanely tight schedule perhaps as a result of the Big Deal influx of business. I had the drywall ready for them, and the job I wanted was to drywall over some exposed brick (about a half sheet of drywall worth). They said they were only there to patch something little, and they couldn't do this. I offered to pay for any time that went over the allotted time (I didn't think it would be more than say an extra hour), but they said no, they had 3 other jobs that day (!!!) and just couldn't do it. I never called back, though i should have. I didn't like the way they handled it. I just didn't get the work done, and I would like my money back. Since I haven't asked for it back yet, I can't blame them, it just fell between the cracks.

The experience with J & D Handyman Service went well. I think they performed the work as described and when there was some extra things involved they didn't balk or not perform them. He was actually pretty enthusiastic and motivated to do the work. It took awhile to schedule.

Couldn't get services scheduled, finally spoke with a human, he was very worried about the coupon code (he'd already returned calls before) and refused to schedule any work until I could come up with the code. Didn't like his attitude since my prepayment was my coupon code. Cancelled service with him, called Angie for a refund and wrote this review. Can't imagine working with someone like this

The service was very good. They were on time and professional, work was done with care and in the amount of time expected.

I would have liked them to return to complete the job and finish the 4 hours of work.

It was crunch time. They did us a favor by completing the work quickly before we had a visitor. I really appreciated that. They did not use any tape and did all the work free hand. I also noticed in one room, they put the light color on the bottom and the dark color on the top. I wish they would have done they opposite. However, it was done very cleanly and sharply. They did a good job of prepping the wall and covering any nail holes. Overall, the service was good.

I love that they were on time, honest, very clean in doing the work, the work was done in less time than estimated and were very friendly and professional.

These guys were very professional and expeditious. They prepped the area to ensure cleanliness and ensured the area was tidy when they were through.

It wasn't what I expected. I think the promotion was a little deceptive. I agreed to have them paint my ceiling and then they charged me an outrageous amount for about fifteen minutes of work. I had agreed to the price but then realized how outrageous it was. They were covering a dark wall and what they used up a gallon of paint on three walls that were broken up with doors, bookshelves, a fireplace, and a big closet. It was fairly expensive paint that I bought. I felt like they didn't know what they were doing. I had them do the wood work in the same color. The guy tried to tell me that the wood word included exceeded the 400 square feet that the deal allotted. The room is tiny. One wall was a fireplace, another had bookshelves, the third wall was two doors. He said he could do those last two doors for $100 each. They offered to come back and do it but I wasn't satisfied.

Two years ago I had a hole in my ceiling from a roof leak. The roof got fixed and then I needed the drywall done. I had gotten the big deal and I called him and he said, I am really overwhelmed, I can't do it right now, can we do it in March? I said sure. This was like in November. So we made an appointment and I said, now this is after the dead line for the big deal will I still get the pricing and he said sure, it's not your fault we are busy. So, that time came and the day before they called and said, we aren't going to be able to make it can we reschedule and I said yeah that's fine. So we set up again. I asked, what do you need me to do, do you need me to buy the drywall? He said yes please, so I went to Home Depot and got the drywall and it's sitting in the room. I set up another appointment with him and he called the day before and said, I can't make it. I said, what is going on? Now it is a year later. He said, I've been really busy I will call you back next week. I said okay that sounds fine. He never called. So, I'm out the money for him too.

Three handymen arrived on time and completed a highly professional job.

Two service providers arrived to complete the job, which was completed more easily due to the location of the repair on the ceiling. They were finished in less than time expected and left the area clean of materials. Now if I can only fin dither motivation to finish of the area now prepped!

Purchased two 4 hour painting or drywall repair coupons. I can't rate the actual performance of the service since they were seemingly unable to answer their phone or return calls. Made several e-mail contact attempts and was finally responded to with a short note to call a cell number provided. After several attempts to contact via phone, I finally got through and arranged to have the firm meet me at home. On the appointment day I took that day off from work. I expected some type of call to say they were on their way. After 1 PM I called and surprisingly someone answered. I was told they could not confirm with me the day prior so they had cancelled the appointment. They had my home work and cell numbers yet they called only my work number to confirm at 5:47 PM the day prior (after I had left for the day) and left no message. I wasted an entire day off waiting for them. I called to reschedule on three separate occasions. Each time I was told "I have to check on our availability and will call you right back." No return calls were ever received. Upon the third try over a two week period, I was told they would call back and I asked how I could possibly take their word when they have failed the previous two times. They assured me THIS time they would follow through. I never heard from them again. The total time elapsed from first contact attempts to last contact was approximately 6 weeks. I am not sure how they even stay in business. Totally unprofessional and lacking any common courtesy or business acumen. I contacted Angie's List and they provided a full refund.

Work was OK - just did not have a polished look to it. Bathroom fixtures were slightly off level, one of them was not flush against wall. Discovered two small cracks in plastic shade to dining room ceiling fixture. One member of two man team seemed inexperienced.

Shortly after I put new flooring in our attic, several nail pops appeared in the ceiling below (due to a few missteps on my part). I gave tried my best at patching, but didn't do very well. Saw this company offering an Angie's List special. I emailed with a couple of questions about parameters. They got back to me right away. Had them come out while my wife was home. They fixed up my bad job and then proceeded to walk around and find other pops on their own. Nice, professional and and overall good job. Just wish I would have hired them to paint too!

The only downside of that was that I asked them fill some cracks in the dining room ceiling; that wasn’t the greatest job. However, the wall patch work was good but some of the ceiling work was incomplete.

They came and gave an estimate. Showed up on time and completed work in one day

Jerome and his team arrived on time and went above and beyond on all the services they provided. They not only patched the wall in question to perfection, but fixed other dings in the drywall through out the house. I have other work which I would hire them for again.

It was good. They never did anything wrong.
