This company did a very professional job and the owner personally ensures that the project goes well. My job was complicated because the furnace had to be moved about a foot from its original location due to building code changes and accessibility for potential repairs in a small space. The installers were very knowledgeable and courteous, and arrived on time to do the work. Two follow up calls for minor adjustments were needed and the servicemen arrived on time and completed the work professionally. I am very satisfied with this company and highly recommend them.

A.P. Mathews set up an appointment for the house within a few days of our call. They came out promptly. The technician looked at each system and tested them. Both looked pretty clean. He noted that some coolant was needed in the air conditioner and he topped up the system. Everything is working well. I can highly recommend A.P. Mathews Heating and Air Conditioning. Their schedule setter and technician were very pleasant and easy to work with. I will be calling them again to do the annual maintenance on my own house. A great experience!

The technician obviously had personal issues going on. Technically they were on time (supposed to arrive 9-11) but I received a message at 9:45 they were enroute. He didn't arrive until 10:55. He spent half his time on the phone dealing with a personal issue. I honestly would not have minded except when he learned he was just there for a check up instead of an emergency he was not happy. At the end of the job, he did apologize. I understood but the greeting just really turned me off. The tune up/check took him about 20 minutes and I asked if everything was ok with the system and he said everything was fine. I asked if I would receive a report or receipt showing what the check up included and he said yes. I never got a report or a receipt.

AP Mathews (APM) is my idea of what a professional business should aspire to be. I have been using them for three years and I have absolutely no complaints. My HVAC system was on its last legs and every year for the past three it required refrigerant. Finally, the system died. The compressor gave out and I immediately called APM. The owner Paul personally came out to evaluate the system and informed me that the cost to repair the system would be comparable to a new more efficient system. He went over the pros and cons of repair vs. replace. I decided to replace the system. I got quotes from three other companies (Costco's company and two other well known companies). APM was the lowest by far with superior equipment (Trane). The install took an afternoon and was clean as can be. Other companies quoted prices that were multiple thousands of dollars higher. Paul and his dedicated crew come out usually on the same day if there is an issue. APM is the model of integrity when it comes to recommending required repairs, fair pricing, and accurate billing. I will never trust my HVAC needs to another company. I recommend APM wholeheartedly.

They were very punctual, and even called to ask if they could come a little earlier, which was ok. The job was easy and completed quickly. The technician that we see every year was very courteous and informative. They're always very accommodating with scheduling, and extremely professional. The owner of the company spoke with me about my type of system for some time before my appointment, educating me about how to maintain my system. Payment is very easy, as well! I would recommend them to anyone!

They have great customer service all the way around. The owner gave me an estimate over the phone three months before the service was done, and honored the price. They got the job done in 1 day, and I was able to pay them online when the job was done. We would recommend them to anyone!

A/C Unit - Found the problem immediately and determined to be a bad board. While he was at my house, the tech even fixed my thermostat which was on a weird setting that made it difficult to control the ambient temperature. When the board came in (under warranty) they installed it right away. Furnace Repair - Had a gas sensor go bad. Though the part was under warranty, the original installer wanted over $300 to install it. If you'd seen where the part was and how it was hooked together, you would understand why $300 was a ridiculous price to pay. My three year old could have replaced that part in under 2 minutes. Still, I had to go through a contractor as the part wasn't for sale to the general public and self install would cause warranty issues. AP did it for half the price of the other guys. That's how they got my business for the water heater. Water Heater - Water heater had reached the end of it's life and it was time to upgrade. Paul worked with me and gave me several recommendations and options. We communicated over text and with pictures and found the right unit. His crew showed up and had the new one installed in about 4 hours. They did a fantastic job. The original duct work (for the vent) was pretty shoddy. They ripped all that out and put in duct work that looks like it would survive the apocalypse. Overall - Every time I've worked with A.P. Matthews I've felt like I've paid a fair price for a great service and so far, they've fixed everything the first time, and it has stayed fixed. I initially got them off of Angie's List as well. What stood out was just the professionalism of the people, timeliness of response and reliability. It was a good experience. I trusted they were doing a good job, I didn't feel like they were trying to shiv me like I had gotten the feeling on other experiences. They were my second opinion on that thing. After that experience, I had them check out my mother's system just because my regard for them was so high. I referred them to my mother, you don't just refer everybody to your family. That means something special, especially your mom, you don't want everybody just dealing with your mom.

Matt initially came out and diagnosed we were out of propane. Some self-investigation revealed we had about 150 gallons of propane available. About a week later Matt came back out and found that the gas regulator wasn't turned on. Once he turned on the regulator, the furnace (a hybrid heat pump/propane setup) came on as it's supposed to. Thanks to the A.P. Mathews crew for helping heat our house! I would definitely hire them again for any future HVAC issues.

Not only did this company fix our problem they did it with integrity. Most companies would just try and sell you a whole new heating unit which most all of the prior companies had done. Our unit is a 65 year old gas unit and although it needed a repair it still works. Instead of misleading us we were given honest information. We decided to try to fix the unit and even though the repair required return visit to ensure snug fittings the company was quick and responsive. I can't express how terrific I felt dealing with them and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND them!!!!!!!!!

At 4:33 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, after twenty-six years of faithful service, our air conditioning unit breathed its last. Of course, it was one of the hottest days of the summer with the temperature a sweltering ninety-five degrees with dripping humidity. I called A.P. Mathews Heating and Air Conditioning in Davidsonville, MD, and left a message on their answering machine, fully expecting not to hear from anyone until Monday morning. Within minutes I received a telephone call from Paul with A.P. Mathews. Twenty-five minutes later he was knocking at my door. After checking the unit and diagnosing the problem, Paul added refrigerant, advising if it holds I might be good for a while, but if it doesn’t then I most likely have a significant leak and might be looking at retiring old faithful. That evening our home stayed cool and comfortable. Well, life is never that simple. Twenty-four hours later, we were scratching our heads wondering, “How did we ever survive growing up without air conditioning?” The next day, another fine employee of A.P. Mathews confirmed Paul’s earlier caution. After twenty-six years, we had a major leak that was not worth repairing. Besides, the newer units are much more efficient with resultant energy savings, significant utility rebates, and tax incentives to please a green Uncle Sam. Paul provided four estimates of different systems to consider and patiently answered all of my questions. The system was installed in one day. War was averted. Our marriage was saved. Paul stopped by a week later to check on the installation, made a minor correction to the condensation line, and answered all my questions about operation and maintenance. We could not have been more impressed or more pleased with the workmanship, professionalism, and exceptional customer service from A. P. Mathews. I’m only rating them five stars because there is no ten star available. So, Friday afternoon, I discover my AC is not working on a day where it's supposed to be over 90 degrees. My first call was to the company who installed my two year old AC/Furnace. They were not available until the following Monday. I started checking Angie's List and after a couple of calls, I found A.P. Matthews. The person who scheduled the appointment was very nice and even offered some things (breaker box and filter) to check before the serviceman came out. I was given a two hour window in a couple of hours. The serviceman arrived between the two hour window. He was very polite and professional. He discovered it was a very simple, one second fix. There is a small drain and part of the cap dropped in which automatically turned off the AC. I KNEW it was going to be something that simple just because of the age of the unit. Instead of charging me the full fee, he charged me $85 because he was in and out in 2 minutes. I was very grateful for that especially since I was a first time client. He put his magnet on the furnace and I will definitely be calling them again!

We received 4 quotes, each from an equally highly rated company. AP Mathew's estimate was easily the one of the greatest overall value.
