This is a really honest company who really saved me a lot of money by not overcharging me for services not needed. They showed up a few minutes early got right to work. He immediately tried the simplest fix first. When the motor wouldn't turn he informed me that it may need to be replaced but once he got the cover off the unit, he gave the blades a twist and freed the rusted axle revealing the motor is still in good working condition. He put everything back together quickly and only charged me for the service call. Thanks AP Mathews for your quick response and thanks especially for your integrity.

A/C wasn't cooling. The technician immediately discovered the problem and fixed it. It's been cooling nicely since the fix (about a month ago).

We found AP Matthews on Angies's List. Because he did such a good job and was so helpful with me elderly father, we've also gotten an annual maintenance contract so my father doesn't worry. The A/C stopped working around dinner on August 1st. I checked the outside unit and discovered that the fan was no longer blowing air through the coil unit. I decided to wait till the next morning to call a technician. At 7:00 I started calling companies but could not get a same day appointment. We needed a same-day appointment because we were leaving the next day for vacation. I found A.P. Matthews on Angie's List and decided to try them. I called A.P. Matthews around 7:15 and was able to get a same day appointment between 10 and 11 am. The Technician, Matt, showed up about 10:30 and assessed the situation based on my information about the fan. After testing, it was determined that the fan had failed. We also determined that it was the original fan from the 1998 A/C installation. Matt replaced the fan and the A/C is working again. Matt was extremely professional and very nice. The entire experience was awesome and my wife and I are very pleased. We will definitely use A.P. Matthews for our future heating and cooling needs.

A+ Angies List provider. ONE WORD: PERFECT Yesterday my AC stopped working. I saw that they hace provided services in my area. I called them today at 9:30 am and explainend that my AC was not working and I will have a job appoinment this afternoon. At 10:00 am a technician was here. 10:25 the work was finished. I had 3 companies provide estimates to replace my heat pump that provides cooling and A/C for the second story of our home. My old inefficient unit had a cracked coil and given its age I pulled the trigger to get a larger and more efficient unit. We went from a 2 ton to a 2.5 ton unit and from a Comfort Maker 10 SEER to a Trane 15 SEER system. The estimate was lower than the other 2 companies. The work was completed even quicker than I had expected and the unit so far has been running like a champ. Paul who sold us the install came back to the house after the install as I was not home the day of installation to give me a thorough explanation of the work and to explain everything I needed to know to maintain and use the unit correctly. The new thermostat that came with the install is great as well. Before the install our existing unit was beginning to ice up and Paul refilled our coolant in the old system at no charge which kept us running for a couple of days before the install took place. The new unit looks great and was very neatly installed. Some of the duct work in the attic was replaced at no charge as well. Paul explained that it made for a better install and ensured the unit ran efficiently. Clearly they showed pride in doing the job right and so far everything has exceeded my expectation. The new unit is so much better in several ways than the old one I cannot even tell you. I am looking forward to seeing the next electric bill even though we have had several weeks of extremely hot weather.

.Heat pump was running for many hours at a time during hot weather and was rarely turning off. Called A.P Mathews and left a message. It was not an emergency and it took a day or two for them to get back to us. Once we were called they came out within an hour. Technician checked the system to find too much freon and took some out to get it at the proper level. System is working properly now. Technician very professional and polite. Also told us what to look for if the compressor goes bad. First time this company was used and would use them again.

He found a stuck relay on the primary board, and reset it, which did the trick. However, he didn't know how long the fix would hold, so he checked with the office to see if it would be recommended to order a new board for replacement. They decided to record the details of the board so that they could order it if the current one failed again rather than go ahead with the replacement, which saved me quite a bit of money. So far, everything is running fine.

We called this company for an estimate, and they asked to come out at 9am on a Saturday. We made a point of rearranging our schedules to be ready for their arrival. Shortly after 9, they called to say they couldn't make it, and rescheduled for Tuesday at 530pm. They never showed, and our followup calls were never returned. I would not recommend a company that (1) does not show up when it said it was going to show up (twice) and (2) does not return phone calls. It's been a few weeks and they still haven't returned our calls or apologized.

The air handler unit had been very noisy and vibrating last night so I turned off the heat/AC to stop the noise. This morning I called the company shortly after 8 AM, received a callback within 15 minutes. The technician was here by 9:30 AM. He spent 30 minutes, checked out the inside air handler and the outside heat pumps and could not get any significant the vibration. As a precaution he tightened the fan motor. He identified the possible cause that the air vents were closed so he opened them. He advised me to call back right away if the vibration returned and not turn anything off. I am very pleased with the company's responsiveness, promptness and thoroughness.

On the day of the service call, the technician showed up on time and immediately started in on checking the interior furnace and air handling unit. He did a comprehensive job of checking all filters, electrical connections and insulation. He also cleaned and replaced filters. He then moved on to the outdoor units and again, did a thorough job of inspected all elements of the A/C units to include electrical connections, freon levels and cleanliness of heat exchanger panels. The service call lasted about 2 hours. Only issue was that at some point during the servicing for the internal A/C unit, it must have experienced just enough down time causing it to "freeze up" allowing the temperature to climb to a point where it would not function...thus no cool air upstairs. The company was responsive and dispatched the same technician back to evaluate why the upstairs A/C unit was not performing but all the time was spent outside looking over the condenser and adding freon to a unit that did not need it 7 hours earlier. He indicated that the additional freon should resolve the issue and departed. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Another call was made and the manager, Paul, quickly answered and asked me to turn off the cooling function and run the fan to ensure any ice build up would be eliminated. He then showed up first thing the next morning and retraced all servicing functions related to the upstairs unit. He re-checked every item and then restated the unit. The rush of cool air was the end result and i have had no issues since! Despite the minor hiccup with the upstairs air conditioning for less than 24 hours, I still rate this company very highly due to their professionalism and immediate desire to ensure the units - each less than two years old - were returned to a fully functional status.

I called A P Mathews late in the afternoon on a Wednesday, and my call was returned within the hour by Paul himself. I explained the unique situation that my husband and I were in: amidst our already-difficult home renovation, we experienced a full-blown HVAC-gone-wrong scenario with another contractor, and asked Paul whether he would be interested in providing us with some of his consulting services. Since we were somewhat in a time crunch, Paul agreed to meet us the next morning. The County Inspector was telling us that the HVAC system that was being installed by our current contractor was not going to be large enough to meet our heating and cooling needs and he was not going to pass us and suggested that we seek out a third party for another opinion before going any further. Paul arrived the next morning as agreed (not just on time, but early, which was a bonus!), went over everything in detail with us, looked over the Manual J that was calculated by our HVAC contractor, agreed that our current system was not adequate, and made suggestions on what could be done to make it adequate (adding supply ducts, returns, changing the tonnage of the system, etc). One of the things that I noticed about Paul? He seems like an honest man who runs an honest business. Even though we are currently working with another company, he never spoke an ill word of that other company or tried to make their work appear inferior in any way. He only offered ways to make improvements, which is what we asked him to do. Kudos to A P Matthews for a running a business right. We are only halfway through our renovation and I wish our experience with other contractors have been half as pleasant.

When we called A. P. Mathews and another contractor to bid on replacing our HVAC system, we didn't know what type of system would be best. A. P. Mathew visited the house to determine what system was best and took the time to explain to us why that particular system and duct-configuration would be better than alternative systems that we proposed. My wife and I are the kind of customers who sometimes need three or four conversations on the same issue before we feel that we understand the pros and cons of a proposed solution. A. P. Mathews never made us feel rushed and they were always courteous. Their original price was competitive and they stuck to it. During the 5-month-long major renovation, our general contractor did all the work except the HVAC, which A. P. Mathews did. Our general contractor examined the duct work that A. P. Mathews installed and he declared it unusually well-done -- "clean work" he said. A. P. Mathews did the work quickly and worked around our general contractor's schedule. In the middle of the project, we realized that we wanted two extra ducts in the basement, and the next day, an A. P. Mathews' worker installed them at no extra cost. Toward the end of the project, we realized that we wanted the thermostat moved to a different wall because the thermostat had been installed in a prefect location for a painting to hang. The next day, an A. P. Mathew's worker moved the thermostat, which required him to use a 5-foot-long drill bit to drill a hole in the basement ceiling that went clear through the base plate and fire-blocking of the wall on the main-level. I was impressed that they had the right tool for the job, knew how to use it, and didn't hit us with a change-order fee. I honestly don't have a single complaint about the work that A. P. Mathews did in our home. We found A. P. Mathews through Angie's List, and A. P. Mathews was such a help to us that discovering them was by-itself well worth the subscription fee to Angie's List.

They installed a new furnace for us. After the initial installation we had a minor oil drip. We called and immediately they came and fixed the problem. I would recommend them to everyone.

Job was scheduled promptly; and follow-up related to the estimate change handled professionally. Technician arrived on time, communicated with his supervisor about the situation & job was completed quickly.

I woke up this morning and my home was 52 degrees. I left for work hoping the heat would fix itself, but of course it didn't. I called and within 2 hours Paul (the owner) was here. My unit was working but no hot air came out. He was here about 30 minutes and my house is already warming up. Now me and my son dont have to freeze all night. My unit is about 20 years old so I feel like it may go soon, but Paul said its still in good shape even after I had told him Im thinking of replacing it. I would definitely recommend them and will be using them again this summer if I have problems with my ac unit.

Paul came to the house and did an initial consultation and estimate. I was planning to buy a much more expensive system, but he advised me as to what I really needed considering the size of my house, the way we use heating and A/C, etc. He saved me a considerable amount of money right off the bat! All services were performed promptly and professionally. His workers were very courteous. Since we were having a new natural gas line installed by BGE, Paul had to do a bit of a "dance" with them. Paul had to install the interior gas lines and have them permitted before BGE would install the gas line from the street to the house. Although it took a while for BGE to get the gas line run (they kept losing paperwork, etc....another story), Paul was very patient and handled the BGE "dance" very well. Once the gas line was run to the house, Paul and his workers were here quickly to finish the job. There were a couple of minor glitches in the installation (any job of this size will have those), but Paul responded rapidly to my concerns and had them all fixed within 24 hours. They also filed for my warranties and rebates for me, completing the job with excellent service.
