Called the office, explained the problem, and they were out in a couple days. Quickly fixed the problem.

My furnace was making what I thought was a weird noise on 5 December 2013, so I called A.P. Matthews for an appointment. They sent a technician out the same day. He checked over the system and heard the noise--said that it was nothing to be worried about. I had one of those "while you're here, could you check" moments, because the water heater pilot had gone out twice earlier that day. The technician checked it and found nothing wrong. Over the next two weeks later, the water heater pilot just wouldn't stay lit. A week before Christimas, I called A.P. Matthews back. Again, they sent out a technician within hours, who determined that the pilot assembly had gone bad. He replaced it with one in his truck. I fully expected to pay for the service call--the first service call was about the furnace--but the tech (turned out to be the owner, Paul Matthews) said, "We should have done this for you last time" and only charged me for the cost of the part. I called the office to formally thank the company for the terrific service (which is how I found out it was the owner who had come out--it was his wife who spoke to me on the phone). It's a family-run business, and the tech who had come out to my home the first time is the grandson of the man that Paul Matthews first worked for in the HVAC business. They try to troubleshoot problems over the phone, just to avoid a service call where a simple fix is possible. Honest, fairly priced, great service. I'm a big DIYer and hate to have to hire people for help, so it's a huge compliment when I say that I look forward to hiring them again.

The heat would not come on and the fuse in the electrical box was not an issue. Matt came out and checked the furnace. He asked if there was a switch in the vicinity. There was one that was behind a roll of carpet. Matt looked behind it and found that the switch had been turned off, causing the problem. He did a quick inspection of the furnace and replaced the air filter. Matt was very professional.

Paul, Gerry and crew are fine folks to work with. Very responsive, friendly and professional in how they go about their business. The company one chooses to install any HVAC system is just as important, if not more so, than the brand equipment purchased and this is why we chose A.P. Mathews over other brands and other installers. We could have chosen higher-end equipment from Carrier for less money, but chose Trane mostly because it what was recommended by Paul Mathews. The difficulty of an attic installation through a typical pull-down attic stairs was handled very well. Carpet and surface protection was provided and the crew kept their work areas clean and neat. We were very happy with everyone we met from A.P. Mathews. Paul hires great people. I had many questions going into this decision and Paul addressed them all. Once the system was installed, he walked me through the technical details that I was interested in to be sure I understood how the system was configured and why. I'm confident it is configured how I would have preferred and look forward to the coming cooling season and working with Paul, Gerry and crew over the coming years. Sooner than later the downstairs system is going to need replacing as well and we will look to A.P. Mathews as our go-to contractor.

I had a similar freezing problem less than a year earlier and paid another company nearly $450.00 to replace the motor. This other company told me my air conditioning system needed replacement and offered to submit a bid to replace the air conditioning system and a separate bid to replace both the heating and cooling systems. When the first contractor did not F/U in the timeframe we had agree on, I called to inquire the status of the proposal, but another week went by and the temperature in the house, once again, grew intolerable. I found AP Mathews through Angie's list and called early the very next morning. I stressed the urgency of the situation in my house and AP Mathews respond early the very next morning. After AP Mathews completed the work, I received a bid from the previous company for $10,000 to replace the heating and air conditioning systems for approximately $10,000 which I declined. It's been six months since AP Mathews' work was done, and thus far, I have not had any further problems with my cooling system. When the time comes for replace of these systems, I would certainly consider AP Mathews Heating and A/C Co, Inc.

Paul and his team are great to work with. Paul came out and did a thorough site survey and design. Our system needed completely gutting and starting from scratch after years of neglect and poor repairs. Paul designed a new system sufficient for our 6700sf house and had it installed. The system works great and we were right on budget. Paul even went the extra mile and helped with a few minor repairs that were not included in his estimate. I would definitely recommend AP Mathews.

Small, family owned business. When we called 3 of the 5 employees were sick. Paul came the next day to give us estimate. He gave us a Trane 18 seer model for just $300 more then the other company 16 seer 3.5 ton. Removal and installation went very smoothly. We have had for 2 weeks now and no problems. House is Warm and cozy. He also installed easy access 20 x 20 x 5 Air filter door.

YES, YES, and YES. These guys are great. They did the job cleanly, professionally, and with great care. They never tried to sell me anything. In fact, I had a hard time trying to figure out whether to have them fix the old (really worn out) unit, or install a new hvac unit due to the repair guy NOT wanting to pressure me to move in either direction. What I got was expertise, quality work, a more than fair price, and timeliness. These guys are the real deal. If I were to do it all over again, I would (and will always)go with this company!

I definately appreciated A P Matthews Heating and Air Conditioning Inc professional service! We woke up to a really cold house. Realized the Furnace was not working. Called A P Matthews and they were able to come to the house with in 2 hours. They diagnoised the problem quicky, had the needed part on the truck and completed the repairs in an hour and a half, I will call them again for future service and repair needs!

Service was excellent. All aspects of our experience with them was positive. Except for the price but that was more related to the age of the unit and parts cost.

I called Paul approx 9am and he was very friendly, he stated that he would have a technician out between 1-3. The tech called roughly 2:30 and arrived shortly afterwards. He explained all the components and what work he was performing, he made my wife comfortable about checking for anomalies in the future and stated that he was happy to come back out for any reason. A class act. Great job! I highly recommend this company.

It went very well. Appointment made with ease; technician arrived on time inspected all units and offered sound advice. I am pleased to have found a dependable heating/cooling company. I would and have highly recommended them.

They were very prompt and very professional.

On Christmas Eve my heat pump was squealing. Figured issue was either fan motor or capacitor (unit was roughly 13 years old). Decided to wait until the 26th to make a service call as my emergency heat was still working. Called AP Mathews at 9am and the technician Matt arrived by 920am. How's that for speedy service! Matt seemed very knowledgeable, friendly and answered any questions we had. He diagnosed the problem within 5-10 minutes after arriving. The motor on the heat pump was failing. He told me the amount would be around $400 installed but did not have one on the truck. His partner (I think his boss Paul) was down the street on another job so he asked if it was ok if went to go get it. Matt returned in less than ten minutes with the part. He repaired the heat pump and everything was working properly. I also asked him to do an inspection on the entire system as I hadn't had one in a couple of years. Matt performed the inspection on both heat pumps and both internal units and said everything looked fine. I asked him if I needed to schedule another inspection and he said wait until next year as everything looked great and it wouldn't need inspected until next year. In regards to price, I gave them a B as I am not really sure how much a motor is and I didnt want to rate it an A as I dont want to mislead that they had superior pricing. The breakdown was $287 for a universal motor (I have a Trane XE 1000 Heat Pump), $125 for the service call (1 hr) and $50 for the inspection. Total cost was $462. Matt was here approximately 1.5 hrs which matches the cost that I was quoted($125 for service call and $25 per every quarter hour after). I would recommend them and use them again.

Although the technician had only worked with a NEST once before, he was smart and we helped each other understand the situation and then work through fixing the problems. Additionally, the technician connected a wire that would more easily help me adjust the NEST for auxiliary heat if necessary. I was thoroughly impressed by his knowledge and courtesy to help me accomplish what I needed and at a decent price. This was my first time using AP Mathews & I will continue to use them. The previous company I used had techs that never seemed up to par and AP has definitely exceeded them and met my expectations.

After receiving proposals from several companies, I chose this company to replace my aging HVAC system. They proposed a system that was similar to one of the other companies, but at a better price. The person who gave me the estimate seemed very knowledgeable and pointed out a few things that others hadn't mentioned. There were no issues with the installation and I have been pleased with the results. There was a glitch were they forgot to submit my paperwork for the BGE rebate, but when I called about it, they were very apologetic and instead of just submitting me for the rebate at that point, they immediately sent me a check for the full rebate amount.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It went very well. We paid considerably more than the deal. The initial cost was $10,600 and we got the $400 off from the Angie's List deal and then our local energy company had a rebate of $200 and there is also a federal tax credit for another $200 which we will get back in April. The price included supplies, labor and removal of the old system. I would recommend them to others.

Our air conditioner upstairs quit working. I called AP Matthews to see what they could do to fix it. It turned out to be a bad compressor on our upstairs unit (heat pump). Paul was excellent to work with. He was very thorough troubleshooting the problem. It was not worth the cost to replace the compressor on this cheap unit so we decided to replace the whole system (blower unit in the attic and the outside unit). They put in a Trane. Paul sent me the estimate and went over everything with me on the phone. I had never replaced a heat pump before so I had lots of questions. We scheduled the work and his guys showed up right on time. They were very considerate about cleaning up after themselves and did an excellent job. By the way, they were working in the attic on a very hot day and it never slowed them down! Paul did not ask for payment until the job was complete. A couple of days later, they called me to let me know they had filed the paperwork with BGE for a rebate and sent me everything I will need to file for a tax credit on this energy efficient system. The whole company was great to work with. Now that the system has been installed for a couple of months I can say that I could not be happier. When we need to replace our downstairs air conditioner I wll definitely use them again!

Mr. Matthews was very professional and explained carefully all our options so that we could make an informed decision. The team arrived on time and replaced every thing, taking away all the debris in a day and a half.

AP Mathews sent two different crews to complete my repair; each team would focus on the two different types of expertise necessary to complete the repair. Team 1 arrived a little early, but their office called in advance so it was no inconvenience. Team 2 arrived almost immediately after Team 1 had completed the first fix and left. Both teams were professional, friendly, and explained the work they had done. Their hourly labor rate was higher than I have paid other HVAC service providers, but the speed and quality with which the job was completed made paying this higher rate acceptable for me.

AP Matthews was excellent. They responded immediately to our email and came out the next morning. We had water coming in the house, so it was critical to have someone come out quickly. The service was excellent. We couldn't have been more pleased. Thank you AP Matthews!!

Dave, the technician, came right on time, was extremely helpful, and fixed everything.

In late July, my wife and noticed that our oil furnace began to run. Despite the system being set to cool and the temperature set point being low enough to require air conditioning, the system turned on both the AC and the oil furnace. We then noticed that the oil furnace continued to burn whenever it had power, even if the thermostat control was switched to off. I called A. P. Mathews Heating and A.C. Inc. They sent a tech out the same day. He diagnosed the problem as a failed primary control board in the furnace. He explained that the failure was probably caused by water leaking from the chimney down through the flue into the furnace, building up deposits that shorted out the board. I had been getting my furnace routinely cleaned and maintained by a different company (not A.P. Mathews). He maintained a very professional demeanor in candidly pointing out that this other company should have informed us of the leak and the damage it was causing, without stooping to bash his competitors. He disconnected the furnace from the damaged primary control board. Fortunately, the part of the board that controlled the air conditioner still functioned, meaning we were back to having air conditioning that same day. The company ordered the parts necessary to repair the furnace. They had to make two trips out to fix the furnace, because the warehouse sent the wrong parts the first time around. However, on the second visit, Matt replaced the primary control for the furnace as well as the flue pipe and barometric damper, also rusted out by the leak. Based on this experience, I plan to switch to A.P. Mathews Heating and A.C. Inc. for the routine maintenance of my AC and oil furnace.
