I have mixed reviews with this company. The sales rep who came to our house and discussed windows with us did a great job, he was very professional and knowledgeable. Two of the biggest selling points for us was the promise of a project manager so that we wouldn't have to manage it ourselves and their window installers work only for Nu Look, have been trained in their specific window installation and clean up after themselves. Once signing the contract I got called within the week by the project manager, Justin. Next they sent out someone to measure the windows, Shawn, who was great as well. Over the next 2 months while the windows were being made I would receive calls from different departments. Sometimes from the same department but a different person. I told them I already gave all the information they were asking me to the other person and that they need to communicate within their departments better. But whatever, not a deal breaker. Installation day came. Josh and Alex came to install, Justin, the project manager, was not with them. They were nice, not very professional, but nice. From a far they seemed to do a good job taking out our old windows and putting the new ones in. They came at 8am and were finished at 6:30pm. The project manager did not make an appearance the entire day (how do you manage a project when you aren't there?). As Josh and I walked around the house to look at the installation, there was so many things wrong. Overall, they were incredibly sloppy. Their caulking was poorly done, tons of it with huge globs everywhere and didn't caulk some places they should have. Josh showed me the outside front sill and said he tried to make it straight but this was the best he could do (very obviously crooked) since there was rotten wood under there. In order to fix it he'd have to replace the wood under there and he didn't have any wood so he'd have to come back. I pointed out all the sloppy caulking and he admitted it was sloppy. He also left some of the stickers on the windows or tried to rip some of them off and left the half ripped sticker on. There were also huge greasy arm and body marks left on the outside of our new $6,000 windows. He left off a piece of plastic on the inside side of one window (which my husband found in our gutter a month later) and the basement window was off track. He got caulk on our ceiling in the basement. All of these things COULD have been recognized and corrected IF the project manager Justin had been around to oversee Josh and Alex. Josh calls the project manager and tells him, in front of me, that he has a lot of things he needs to come back and fix. I give the check to Josh and he then pays out Alex in cash right in front of me. Alex is meanwhile constantly spitting in my grass while we are talking. After they drove away, I looked on the sidewalk and street in front of my house where they had parked and saw about 15 cigarette butts that I then had to pick up. After they left I looked around and noticed they left trash in our bushes, on our lawn, on our roof, everywhere! They cleaned up the big stuff but most of the little things were lying around. Which I then had to clean up as well. The second time Josh and Alex come back they tried to fix some of the mistakes. For sloppy caulking they just added more caulk. He took off the stickers. Didn't really fix anything to our standards. I called Justin, the project manager, to complain again and he says he'll send them out a third time to fix everything. Before they came Justin finally shows up at my house to see the issues himself. This is the first time I'm meeting our project manager. He tells me that this is not their usual work and the quality is not up to Nu Look standards. He took pictures of everything. The third time Josh and Alex came back they corrected nothing and everything still looked sloppy. This time as they walked around to caulk things and work outside they smoked cigarettes in our backyard, not even on the street where their truck is. Again, unprofessional and seeming to not take pride in doing a quality job. I was completely fed up and called Justin. I told him he cannot send Josh and Alex back, they are not capable of correcting their mistakes and doing an acceptable job. And that's when we met Brad and Ryan. If it weren't for Brad and Ryan, I would be giving Nu Look a terrible review. Brad and Ryan were the second set of installers who came out to fix Josh and Alex's mistakes. They showed up without having any information on what they were to fix because Justin didn't give them any. I don't know why he didn't do this and send them the photos he took on his phone. After looking around they realized that they didn't have the right metal to use for our windows, since they weren't told what materials to bring, so they needed to come back another day. And they did. They worked all day fixing SO MANY things that Josh and Alex messed up. They even discovered other things that we didn't see the first time. Josh and Alex had left exposed wood on the outside of our basement windows, which should have been capped with metal. They also straightened the crooked window sill in the front. I told Brad what Josh had said about the rotten wood and he looked up there and showed us that there was no rotten wood. Josh flat out lied to us because he was too lazy to fix his sloppy work. Brad and Ryan cleaned up everything and left nothing behind. They were both completely professional, took pride in their work, were easy to work with, and did a quality job that met our standards. Our windows now look beautiful, all thanks to Brad and Ryan! If I were to recommend this company to anyone or if I were to use them again in the future, it would be only with Shawn as the project manager and Brad and Ryan as the installers. Brad and Ryan saved our windows and did an impeccable job. So glad we got to meet and work with them. I only wish we had them from the beginning.

Provider called to schedule a roof estimate. I informed the lady who call, Kehana, that I would like them to meet with my wife during the week. She said its company policy that both home owners are REQUIRED to be present during the estimate. I work variable hours and I am on call, so I cant not guarantee I will be there. She informed me that they would therefore NOT be able to do an estimate. Ill take my business elsewhere.

They did a great job from start to finish. Couldn't be happier with how smooth the process was from the initial contact to the final installed product. Excellent pricing and competitive warranties were the cherries on top. Customer service is clearly a priority with this company: I will definitely be using them again.

DO NOT CALL !!! I called Nu Look because they advertise a lot on the radio station I listed to. The pitch was 40% discount and that they said was unlike everyone else because this was a REAL discount. I got 3 estimates 2 from other Angies List contractors $10,750 and $9500. Using the same shingles, Nu Look bid $18,750 -- that was at a 40% discount meaning that their orignal price was $30,833.33!! 3 times the other 2 bids. Their "40% discount" was twice the other bids. TOTAL RIP OFF!! DO NOT CALL THEM!!

I had Nu Look Home Design come to my home to give me an estimate for replacing my roof. I had heard on WTOP radio that they were offering a 40% discount. The salesman (Phil) was very prompt and seemed knowledgable. He did do a good job at explaining the products to be used and the advantages of each. I live in an end unit townhouse with a straight roof. No dormers and only half of one side abuts my nieghbors house so I needed only about ten feet of step flashing. I have one plumbing vent and the chimney pipe (metal) from my furnace. The estimate I was given included a 3 foot ice shield along the eaves, a drip shield along all edges, an upgraded paper, architecural shingles with a wind rating of 130 mph, and a ridge vent. Everything so far is fine and dandy. Then came time for the price. They offer two packages, a conventional and a performance package. Their estimate came to $14,175 for the performance package and $8,110 for the conventional package. I had three other roofing companies come out and give me estimates and none of them was over $4,000. Even with the 40% discount from the companies radio commercial , which they only offered on the Performance package, the estimate came to $8,505. When our second estimate came in at $3,600 my first thought was that can't be correct. But we received two more estimates of $3,900 and $4,000. All from companies that have been in business for 25+ years. One replaced my parents roof and the other replaced my neighbors roof. These other estimates I received included Architectural shingle (Certanteed 30 year warranty, 130 mph wind resistance), Ice shield, drip edge, and a ridge vent very similiar to their ShingleVent II. Also pipe collars, and step flashing are included. I do not have a chimney so no need for chimney flashing. I find it hard to find a reason why their prices are twice to 3 1/2 times what other reputable companies charge. When Phil asked what price range I had in mind I stated that I was thinking somewhere in the $5,000 range. The best offer we got that night was for about $6,900 for the Performance package. That included the 40% discount and another $1,600 off if we had agreed to allow our home to be used for promotional purposes but we had to agree that night to have their company do the job. I truly felt like we were on an episode of Deal Or No Deal. In short, I feel like we would have been taken advantage of if we had gone with the estimate provided. And if asked I would have to discourage anyone from using Nu Look Home Design.

While the materials used are an important factor in overall satisfaction of the job, majority of complaints derive from the services provided, not the materials used. When comparing prices consider the service the company is providing more than the material they are using. Much like dining out, a meal at one restaurant might be a fraction of the cost for the same meal at a different restaurant. I can not attest to the service provided by the competitors, I can only tell you that Nu Look Home Design has a 97% satisfactory rate for it's installed customers and won the 2013 BBB Torch Award for marketplace excellence.

There were a few issues at the onset of the actual job which raised some red flags. However, a call to the Project Manager resulted in these issues being handled promptly and to our satisfaction. The roofing crew started at 7:30am (the agreed upon time) and was completed by 2:00pm. They cleaned up all debris including nails and staples. Bottom line, we are pleased with the look and the quality of the new roof. I suppose time will only tell if our leak problem has been solved but I feel fairly confident that it has.

My experience with Nu Look started with a rep knocking on doors in our neighborhood. He was handing out 40% discount fliers. I normally turn these sales representatives away but I gave this guy a chance because I have been thinking about replacing my windows and he was very courteous and not pushy. We agreed that a sales rep would call me in a couple of days to setup a meeting. The meeting with Martin, the sales rep, was supposed to be a 45 minute meeting that turned into almost 3 hours. Most of the meeting was the sales pitch. Martin provided me an initial estimate so ridiculously high that I told him that we would end the meeting right then and there. He then explained that this price was without the 40% off. The new price quoted was still extremely high. He then did a whole show about calling his manager and arguing with him that I should get an additional discount because I had agreed to let them use my yard to post their sign for a month. To make a long story short, he finally gave me a third price which was still very high (a few thousand higher than what I had budgeted) but offered to replace my sliding door for free. I then did what I never do and signed up on the spot. I started having buyer's remorse almost immediately after he left and started checking other companies. The following day I emailed Martin and told him that I had done my homework and found out that the project was overpriced. After a lot of back and forth, the sales manager, Chadd, finally further reduced the price by a couple thousand dollars and agreed that the crew would put back the window blinds after completion of the work. In the weeks leading up to the installation, the project coordinator, Tonya, was great in communicating to me what was going on. The measurer/installer, Shawn, showed up on the agreed time and went over what was going to be done. He also said that the brackets I had for my blinds would not fit the new windows and I had to get new brackets. He promised to send me an email with details about these brackets. Despite several exchange of emails, the day of the installation, I still did not know what new brackets to buy. Because of a delay with the delivery of the materials, the work started one day late but Shawn promised that this 2-day job (24 windows and one sliding door) would be done in one day. The crew of 3 showed up on time (7:15am) and worked hard the whole day. However, since I didn?t have the new brackets, the blinds fell off as soon as they put them back and they were not very pleasant about it. The project manager who called to check on progress was willing to send them out to buy new brackets but by that time, it was past 8:00pm and, feeling bad for them, I refused. So, even though they did a good job, because they did in one day what was scheduled to be done in 2 days, they were tired and that made a difference in their attitude towards the end. A couple of days later, Tonya, the project coordinator, upon hearing what happened, sent me George, a real gentleman, who was able to fix the blinds. Tonya and George really made the difference in my opinion of this company. They were wonderful. So, bottom line, do your homework on prices before having Nu Look Home Design come out and give you an estimate.

The estimator described the products available, including showing us samples of all of the products, and provided a very reasonable quote. We did negotiate the final price, which was considerably lower than their first quote. The windows had to be specially ordered, so there was approximately a one month wait until the work could be scheduled. The installers arrived on time and completed the work ahead of schedule. They were very professional and made sure that the work was completed to our satisfaction. The roofing, gutter, and window installations went smoothly, and the yard was completely cleaned up. In summary, we were completely satisfied.

At 6:30 this evening, my doorbell rang. A gentleman explained to me that he was with Nu Look Home Design and that they were replacing a neighbors roof around the corner. He also stated that he was scheduling appointments for estimates the following day and a number of neighbors were taking advantage of that. We need a new roof, so I said, and quot;sure, I'd love an estimate.and quot; He gave me some available times for tomorrow and I told him 4pm was fine. He then asked if that was a good time for my husband as well. I told him that my husband works 6-7 days a week and that he would not be part of the meeting. The gentleman said, and quot;oh, I'm sorry, it's company policy to have both husband and wife at the meeting.and quot; I told him that he could then forget it as my husband trusts my judgement and I make the decisions on what company we use for repairs on the house. He said, and quot;well what time does your husband get home? We could schedule it then.and quot; The VERY last thing my husband wants to do, after working a 12 hour day, is meet with someone about the roof. We've been through this before with windows, the hard sell, the buy now bs. I told him I found it extremely offensive that that is the company policy. Therefore, he lost the deal. (as did 2 window companies last year when they required the same thing). With that said, the gentleman who came to my home was really very kind. Bottom line, NLHD.... don't assume that because I am a wife and mother that I am not fully capable to make the financial decisions in my home. Those and quot;hard selland quot; sit down meetings are brutal and I've agreed to handle them instead of put my hard working husband through it. Change your policy! It's OFFENSIVE! Maybe then, you'll get a better Angie's List Grade!

I called to set up an appointment for them to come out and give me an estimate. On the phone the scheduler wanted more than the normal amount of information -- name, address, phone number. The scheduler wanted to know marital status, insisting they would only come out if both parties were home. Do they ask men if they married? f I am the person requesting the estimate, they should deal with me period. I cancelled the request for an estimate and hung up. FYI -- This is the only company I contacted for an estimate that wanted this information.

Seemed almost like a scam. Sales person came by to provide an estimate for a roof replacement. Quoted price twice what others said. However, we could get this fantastic offer they give almost no one else! They would take 50% off (which simply put them in the range with everyone else) if we would agree to a series of progressively more troublesome marketing gimmicks. We would have to put a sign in our yard for four weeks saying they did the roof (silly, but no big deal). We would have to let them show pictures of our roof on their website and in sales materials (fine). We would have to okay them going door-to-door in our neighborhood showing pictures of our roof and trying to sell to our neighbors (great way to win over the neighborhood). We would have to sign a non-disclosure agreement, agreeing that we would not tell our neighbors what we paid. The latter was the last straw - we have good relationships with all our neighbors, and in our neighborhood we try to help each other out. Now this company wants us to lie to our neighbors. Not a chance! Furthermore, the estimate/sales pitch took 3 hours (30-45 minutes is the norm). It was in the evening and we had to work the next day, and we couldn't get rid of him. Now, to be fair, the company does seem as if they would do a good job, and uses high quality products. But there are others who do the same. Their sales tactics are very troubling, and don't in the end save you any money.

k care of all of it. Once the install date was determined I was told when the supplies would be pre-positioned so I could move my cars out of the garage and off the driveway. The crew showed up early on the install day and got right to work. They had to remove the old shingles, replace 3 damaged boards, and install the new seamless gutters. All my shrubs were covered to prevent damage and the yard was cleaned up during and after the install. The gutters are twice the volume of the old, but look just like the old ones. The ridge vent they installed (Shingle Vent) is much better than the old one that allowed water in during windy rain. I would recommend them, and have, to others looking for an excellent roofing job.
Description of Work: I needed a new roof and gutters. After the estimators did their thing we started talking price for 33 squares. I didn't need it done immediately so I was uncommitted. I thought the starting price was way to high, but they did come down a lot. I decided to go with them. I have to deal with an HOA on any mods to the house - Nu Look too

The company sales rep Brett was very professional and friendly and knew his products. He did not try and rush us to sign a contract or high pressure us but discussed various options and prices we could do. After getting other roofing bids Nu Look even lowered their price to beat the other company. We were impressed with their products and company. The crew arrived on time and was ready to start work as the roofing supplies had been delivered to our home over 2 days beforehand. They finished the job in one day even with the delay concerning replacing the roof decking. . The crew foreman verified the work that they were going to do with us while the crew moved any flower planters and furniture to a safe area. They then covered the area surrounding our house with large tarps to protect the shrubs, etc. from any roof debris. We had settled on a contract that we felt was fair using quality materials and replacing some of the plywood decking as/if needed. Once the shingles and tar paper were removed we discovered that almost all of the wood was in bad shape. The job manager was called and he was there shortly and we discussed the problem and the extra unexpected costs. He didn't waste time calling the company and getting their permission but gave me a discounted price to replace all of the plywood that I believe was fair. The old wood was off and replaced in short order and the ice shield, underlayment and shingles were replaced. They cut in and installed a new ridge vent and bathroom exhaust roof vent, installed new pipe collars. The crew also tore off the old soffit, cut vent holes in the wooden board and installed new vented soffit. The crew was friendly and professional but we needed to communicate through their foreman or another lead worker if we had any questions or concerns during the roofing replacement. The crew completely cleaned the yard and used a magnetic roller to pick up any loose nails. Except for the great looking new roof and soffit the only sign Nu Look had been here was their sign they put in our front yard. Certainly, the extra money it cost for the plywood was not a pleasant discovery, but my wife and I felt that the crew did a great job using quality products with a great warranty. Yes...we would use them again.
Description of Work: Nu Look completely replaced our entire roof. They tore off the old shingles & tar paper and replaced all of the 40 + year old plywood decking that was unfortunately in worse shape than we had first thought. They cut out a new ridge vent and installed the new underlayment, ice shield and shingles and drip edge. They also installed a new bathroom roof vent, new pipe collars and removed the old vinyl soffit, cut out ventilation holes in the wood and replaced the soffit. They made sure that there was no trash left and a good cleanup was done and everything returned back as it was.

I heard a Nu Look Home Design commercial advertised on one of the area's most popular news stations. In summary the Nu Look Home Design's advertisement stated that the DC/MD area has had a hard winter and the roofing business was very slow, so they were offering a 50% discount to anyone who wanted to purchase and replace their roof before the month end. Hearing a 50% discount I jumped at the chance to see what this company was all about so I called the company to set up a meeting. . Roger's was our Nu Look Home Design representative and his presentation was about 45 minutes long. He had samples of the different types of roofing materials that the roofers would be using, talked about warranties, and guarantees. The shocker came when Roger discussed cost. He discussed two pricing options, one with a lower classification of material than the other (Conventional vs. Performance). It was almost like and quot;a la carte shoppingand quot;, a base price with other various prices, final cost depending on the different type of accessories selected. Before discussing price Roger showed us statistics on what roofing costs were going for in the DC/MD area so that we would be assured that the estimated price that Nu Look Home Design proposed would be reasonable. Well average cost of a roof needed for my home cost about $15,134 for the Conventional price (material with less warranty life) compared to the Performance price (material with longer or life time warranty) for the price of $14,402. Well since the conventional Pricing package offered less warranty life, we begin to look at the Performance Pricing package. Oh, did I mention that the original price for the Performance Price package was $22,797 and the $14,402 was the proposed price and quot;with the 50% discount appliedand quot;!! The price of the and quot;Performance Price packageand quot; offered longer warranties, shingles with heaver weight, heavier underlayment material, etc., so why make this large investment with the and quot;Conventional Price packageand quot; when the and quot;Performance Price packageand quot; presented itself as the better deal with superior materials. Now I had already interviewed three other contractors and when I compare the price of my highest contractor's bid to the Nu Look Home Design's discounted bid of $14,402, my highest contractor's bid was $5,172 LOWER in price. Also my highest price contractor's bid was even using the same name brand shingles that Nu Look Home Design company was using. The Nu Look Home Design's discounted price was way above the price of my three other contractor's bids. My conclusion, it appeared that the statistics that Roger presented to us were a bit off OR maybe my other three contractors really needed my business and offered a lower. I'll just let the AngiesList Members decide which one it could be. I sent an email to the Nu Look Home Design email address thanking them for the interview and informed them that I had selected another contractor.
Description of Work: My Nu Look Home design representative, Roger, was prompt and very professional in giving my husband and me a review of their products, warranties, and business practices that were to be used in replacing our roof. I can't remember the exact date of our meeting with the Nu Home's representative. So the above date is my best guess date. I believe our meeting was in February.

1 hour before the appointment a rep name Amy called to confirm the appointment. Amy then proceeded to ask if I had anything for them other than the single custom window. When I told Amy that all my windows were new and I only needed the ONE custom window she stated that and quot;We only do jobs of 4 windows or more, but please keep us in mind if you choose to do more remodeling.and quot; Not a chance Amy!
Description of Work: At the recent Baltimore Remodeling Show a Very High pressure, and un-trained, representative convinced me to allow them to come out "and just give an estimate" for a single custom window.

Response from Nu Look Roofing, Siding, and Windows
I apologize for your unpleasant experience. While we strive to provide the best training for our representatives, sometimes they do not fully understand all policy's prior to working an event. The individual that scheduled your estimate at the home show was probably a newer employee. We do provide on going training to all of our representatives, however it sound like he probably a did not have enough experience. We will continue to train our representative to prevent issues like this. Thank you for your feed back.

The installation was completed on time with careful removal of the existing roof to assure that our foundation planting was not damaged. The crew was very professional and courteous and remembered to do several small adjustments to existing wiring that we had requested. The sales pitch was reasonable and the terms were clearly explained. All trash and debris was removed, including cleaning under the plants. We were given plenty of advance notice of when the work would be done and were contacted to confirm contract terms before any materials were ordered or work was scheduled. This was not the lowest price, but it was quite competitive given the quality of the materials and the guarantees that were attached. These were 50 years on the materials and 20 years on the labor. The house looks like new and we were pleased with the way things were handled. Hence the excellent rating.
Description of Work: Replaced existing roof with new roof, ridge line vent, and drip line protection using high grade shingles and other materials.
