We were delighted with the result. We were very concerned about how it would look, as the repair was at the entrance to our living room, a very visible spot. Our old pine floors are one of the most striking elements of our historic home. Rudy did a tremendous job matching the new pine to the old, he was even able to match the natural wood pattern!  Not only does it look great - you can't tell the difference - it is also more solid, as he installed supports beneath the new floor boards. He takes great pride in doing good work.
Rudy was a pleasure to work with: he was always responsive to our calls, provided a detailed estimate and invoice, performed the work on time and left everything clean. He was also very flexible in waiting to finish work and stain the new board a few months after he did the repair, as we needed to wait for a time that we would all be away.
I also asked Rudy for advice on how to fix other issues with our very old floors - to make them less squeaky, and what to do about some of the cracks. I found him to be honest about what we thought could or couldn't be addressed. I will definitely turn to him again when we decide to solve those issues.

state and when we arrived at our recently purchased home in Bethesda
MD,  everything was done as expected.
Rudy came out and assessed the scope of work to re-finish 3 levels of
hardwood flooring that was originally installed in 1993. He took pictures
for me, created samples of different color stain options and every time
was very detailed and always accessible via phone and or email which was
essential for this long distance coordinating.
I can't emphasize enough that these guys are top notch, they go above
and beyond what is expected and are genuinely concerned with quality and
work hard to ensure you get quality within a reasonable time frame for a
fair price.

Rudy was very responsive and his team was professional and did a great job with our stairway railing, which included removing the old posts, balusters, and handrails, all of which were loose and posed a safety hazard.  Selection of the parts was easy and they did a top notch job installing and then staining everything to match our existing floors.  The railing is rock solid and blends in perfectly with our newly finished staircase.  We're already planning to use them again for additional refinishing jobs.

Rudy was easy to reach for an initial cost estimate and came out to take measurements within a couple of days of contacting him.  He seemed very knowledgeable about the work and took the time to help us understand our options in terms of finish type, stain colors, durability, etc.  The crew did a fantastic job refinishing our floors and the stairway and replacing all of the shoe molding.  They were professional and customer-service focused, checking in a couple of times for us to inspect their work and make sure everything was what we wanted.  Their prices were reasonable and they seemed to genuinely care about providing quality work.  We will definitely be using them again.

I had a overall fantastic experience with KK, Rudy Arredondo and his crew. We had some scheduling hiccups before the job began, but Rudy personally handled the situation relatively well.
Pricing: KK's estimate was middle-of-the-road compared to other estimates I had gotten. Some companies were cheaper than KK, others more expensive. But considering the quality of work that KK delivers and Rudy's commitment to customer satisfaction and attention to detail, I would say I got a better deal for my money than if I had gone with another company.
Quality of work: very high. Rudy in particular is meticulous and points out details I otherwise wouldn't have noticed. Some people care about that, some people don't, but I appreciate that it's brought to my attention for assessment. It's clear he cares about his work and has a passion for it. The crew also finished the whole job in one day instead of 1.5 days as originally estimated. They worked hard until after hours to get everything done. Our floors look beautiful and our furniture doesn't wobble on it like it did in our previous house with hardwood floors. At the end they even inspected the shoe molding on the 1st floor to see if anything was loose and nailed it down, even though I didn't specifically ask them to do it.
If we were to ever refinish the floors on our 1st floor, or to replace stair railing, or to have furniture patched/refinished, I would use KK again.

I had four estimates to replace the parquet floor in our kitchen, and Rudy at KK floors was the only one who said that he could level the new floor with the existing hardwood floor in the dining room and hall. The others were uncertain what was under the existing parquet so they were unwilling to say they could do it. Rudy showed confidence that he could do it, saying he personally did this work in our area every day. Since leveling the floor required removing an additional layer of plywood subfloor, Rudy's price was actually several hundred dollars higher than the lowest estimate, but given the good reviews on Angie's list I decided to go ahead. The job was scheduled within a week and Jimmy, Rudy's brother, and crew arrived on time. When the parquet and one layer of subfloor were removed, the remaining subfloor did not seem too sturdy, so I asked if everything was OK to proceed. Rudy came back and we discussed the issue, he pointed out that the existing hardwood was installed over the same subfloor, and while not ideal, the new floor would be just as sturdy an probably sturdier than the old floor. When proceeding Jimmy was careful to mark the position of the floor joists so the boards would be nailed into them and not only into the plywood subfloor. The new floor looks great and has no indication of any flexibility or squeaking that we were worried about. In addition to the new hardwood, KK provided a custom made shoe molding and baseboard, and Rudy personally spent several hours blending the finish of a small strip of the old hardwood to better match the old and new finishes.

We had just hired Rudy to do our hardwood floors a couple of days earlier ((for which I've already written a separate review), and in the process we learned he was able to do vinyl flooring as well.  We needed our kitchen floor replaced, and Jose, a member of Rudy's crew got the job done quickly and greatly improved the look of the room.  The installation was of a much higher quality than had been done by the previous contractor, and the result was beautiful.  I have now used this company twice and had a good experience with them both times. I'm happy to recommend them and I expect to hire them again.

We had a good experience.  Rudy came out promptly to look at the room and talk to us about what we wanted. He was extremely careful and knowledgeable, and impressed us with his professionalism. Once we told him to go ahead, he went to great lengths, returning several times to show us samples, to be sure he and we were all happy with the color match. His guys came when they were supposed to, were polite and professional, gave me an accurate estimate of how long it would take, and left things very clean. Most important, the work product was extremely good. The floor looks really wonderful - the right color and finish, and very professional. We've used other companies in the past, sometimes with far less satisfactory results. We'll definitely go back to these guys again, and recommend them to others. In fact, we'll probably use them to go back and re-do some work done by another company, which didn't come close to making as good a color match. KK is a bit more expensive than some others we talked to, but not by a large amount, and is absolutely worth every penny. I couldn't be more pleased.

Rudy was one of three companies that bid on this job and i had to coordinate this work remotely from out of state. Rudy was the only contractor to take the time to review the fine details provide me with timely detailed estimates and samples.
 Rudy and his team were timely, fair priced and reliable and were genuinely concerned with quality, not just hiring sub contractors to knock out the work asap. If you are looking for reliable service that is fair priced and of the highest quality this is the contractor for your needs.

Rudy was very prompt, professional and friendly.  He was able to give me an estimate the same day I called, and started work soon afterwards.  He was very knowledgeable and gave a very fair price considering these floors were in terrible condition and in one room the floor had been painted over thickly in glossy yellow paint. When we bought this house we had carpeting installed to cover these floors, thinking that they were beyond help and that they probably needed to be replaced rather than refinished. The old carpeting and nails were pulled up and disposed of by Rudy and his crew, miraculously, they managed to remove the yellow paint, and they took extra care to correct damage previous workers had done to the thresholds and moldings.  You would think these floors were newly installed floors, they look so perfect. We wish we had done it long ago. I highly recommend this company.

The company was very pleasant to work with.  They responded to my email quickly and were able to come out for an estimate quickly. Rudy, who provided the estimate, was very professional and knowledgeable.  Their estimate was about the same as the others that I got. We selected KK because they seemed more professional and pleasant to work with.  Once we signed a contract they got started quickly and completed the work in less than a week. The floors look very nice.  There was one board that was slightly raised and Rudy came out to fix it the next day.  Overall we were very pleased with the work.  Rudy was very responsive and easy to work with - we would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them.

My oak floor is both old and unusual; perhaps that's why the first company I consulted discouraged my intention to refinish the floor, insisting instead that it should be replaced.  Not satisfied with that response, I went back to Angie's List and, based on KK Hardwood Floor's "A" rating and enthusiastic reviews, contacted Rudy.  What a difference!  Rudy arrived, assessed the floor not as a salesman would, but with the eye of a skilled artist and craftsman.  He emphasized my floor's uniqueness, described precisely what needed to be done, and discouraged any notion of replacing it.  He wrote an estimate, we agreed on a date, and the work was done on time and beautifully.  The crew not only refinished the floor, but also repaired damaged spots.  Although the job cost almost as much as replacing the floor (with cheaper, less desirable materials), I am thrilled with the results.  The salesman from the first company (also on Angie's List) clearly wasn't interested in the job and only wanted to sell me a new floor.  In contrast, Rudy listened to my concerns, evaluated the floor carefully, and evinced remarkable enthusiasm for the job.  My experience with KK Hardwood Floors is far and away the best one I've had with any home improvement service.  I recommend them without reservation and with tremendous enthusiasm.  This is one great company!

Great! Rudy and crew were very responsive, honest, complete, and professional. Also, I noticed that they missed one part of our shoe molding and they were back within 24 hours to fix it. Great! I totally recommend working with them.

The floors look amazing.  You can't tell the difference between the new floor that just went down and the existing floor that has been there for 20 years.  The existing floor was a prefinished, stained hardwood floor that had beveled edges so it required a bit of work to get it to match the new floor.  We received estimates from a few contractors, but Rudy is the only one who assured us that he would be able to sand the beveled edges out of the old floor and get it to match the new one.  KK's price was a bit higher than the other estimates we received, but I feel that they are well worth it.  Rudy was more knowledgeable than the other contractors we met with and I could tell that he was a perfectionist.  After meeting with Rudy, he sent us a very clear contract specifying the exact work to be done - a detail I really appreciated.  Rudy's brother Jimmy actually did the work at our house and I couldn't have been happier with him.  He does great work and is a super-nice guy.  These guys really went above and beyond what I expected.  The old hardwood floor had a lot of areas that were damaged and they replaced planks as necessary, making it look good as new.  They also took the initiative to install an additional piece of flooring around a door frame where they thought it was needed.  In addition to doing great work, they were very prompt and professional.  I'm so glad I chose this company to do our floors - I couldn't have asked for more.

Rudy showed up at the appointed time to give us an estimate - he carefully examined the floors, including the pet damage, and suggested cost efficient approaches to the project.  He also explained the differences between water or oil based finishes. We expanded the project on the day they began to work; K & K showed us what they were doing throughout the process.  Since we had to be out of the space during their work, we were glad that he brought sufficient workers to keep all of it moving as quickly as possible.  The project progressed efficiently and the quality of the work was excellent.  The new shoe molding in the kitchen is elegant and the floors look great, better than they have in decades.  The floors are seamless; the wood is beautiful and Rudy has educated us about what to do and what not to do to keep it that way.

Rudy and his crew did a wonderful refinishing  job. From the beginning, Rudy was knowledgeable, friendly and truly professional. He promised us what would look like a new floor and he came through with flying colors. There is no doubt  that he and his crew take great pride in their work.

We couldn?t have been more pleased with Rudy and the job that he did.  This says a lot because I am a very detailed-oriented person with high standards.  From the initial meeting and estimate through the completion of the services, it was clear that Rudy cares a lot about doing his job well.  Before selecting Rudy/KK, we had six different service providers (five of whom are highly-graded Angie?s List providers) give us estimates and we felt strongly that Rudy offered the best combination of skill, price and quality product.  The remainder of the process only served to confirm our initial impression.  

At the first meeting/estimate Rudy provided us with lots of good feedback, suggestions and a very detailed estimate of all of the potential work clearly broken down by work and cost.   We knew that we were going to have hardwood floors installed in the kitchen and butler?s pantry, but we were considering having floors installed in other rooms as well.  Nearly all of the other providers provided estimates broken down solely by room, which made it difficult to adequately verify how the costs were broken down.    

We also felt (after reviewing the different types and manufacturers of the wood that would be installed) that Rudy was suggesting and would be providing the best overall quality wood product of all of the providers.  We reviewed the different products on the internet and also visited the suppliers to personally inspect the different products as well.   

The installation went as well as we could have hoped.  Rudy and his crew were not only on time each day, but were about 15 minutes early (and offered to wait outside if we weren?t ready).  They worked full days (until about 6:00 p.m. each day) and seemed to be very thorough, detailed and conscientious in performing their work.  Rudy came back the following business day and spent about a half day carefully performing all of the finishing details.   

As stated above, we are very happy with the job that Rudy did.  I am a person who likes performing do-it-yourself projects and probably would have done this myself had my wife not wanted it done quickly.  In this case, I am happy that we had Rudy do it.  I could not have done the work as well as him and his crew and considering the time and effort that they put into performing the services (as well as the finished product), it was money well spent and (in my opinion) very reasonable.

Rudy and his crew did a beautiful job on our new wood floors.  Not only did the new floor look beautiful it is solid as a rock.  No more squeaking!  We were concerned with how the new floor would blend with the existing floors.  We can hardly tell the difference.  Our visitors always comment on our beautiful new floor!  The workers were professional, prompt, and extremely hardworking.  The finishing touches, how the flooring meets the existing floor and the final finish, all extremely well done.  We have a lot of hardwood in our house and I will not hesitate to use KK Hardwood Floors again.

We got estimates from four Angie’s List A-rated hardwood flooring companies, and were pleased with all of their estimates, but we were especially impressed with Rudy from KK Hardwood Floors.  He was meticulous in scoping the project, and made a number of great recommendations that we eventually incorporated into our plan, explaining with each one how that would impact the price and timeline for our project.  He obviously had a master craftsman’s eye for envisioning how the finished job would look, and what could make it look best.  From start to finish, the company’s performance was flawless.  Rudy was very responsive in terms of adapting to several schedule glitches, and never failed to call back quickly when I left messages for him.  Once the project was underway, the KK crew, led by Rudy’s brother Jimmy, worked ceaselessly to complete and perfect the job.  The crew of two and sometimes three were polite, cleaned up after themselves every day, and worked longer each day than I had expected, often not leaving until close to 7pm.  They were careful and precise, and worked through several unforeseen issues quickly.  They also crafted two replacement wooden steps and several transition pieces, and stained them so perfectly they seemed to be from the same line of flooring.  Throughout the project, we were never in doubt that we had picked a superb company to create our new floor, and they confirmed it for us on numerous occasions.  Every member of their team – Rudy and Jimmy, the workers, and Katherine in the front office – were as pleasant, responsive and professional as we could possibly have hoped.  I’m guessing that any of the four companies we looked at would have done a good job, but I’m sure we picked the right one, and we’ll definitely use them for our next job.  We’ve already recommended them to several neighbors and friends who’ve complimented us on our beautiful new floors.  GREAT JOB, KK HARDWOOD FLOORS!

Great company to work with.   They were on time for all appointments and worked hard all day long.  Rudy worked to help me save a little extra money when he came to give me an estimate.    The floors look fantastic.  Couldn't ask for a better experience.

Working with Rudi and his crew was an overall good experience.  I received several estimates  for refinishing  the hardwood floors and KK Hardwood was right in line with the others.  They did a nice job, came on time, and were careful about cleaning up and not getting dust all over the place.  They are very customer service oriented and want to make sure that we were happy with the end results. Rudi is just great to work with, nice to talk to and you can tell he really cares.  I can recommend this company and would definitely use them again.

Feb., 2012   Two weeks ago I had my kitchen, staircase and two upstairs bedroom floors refinished by KK Hardwood Floors of Kensington, MD. They asked me write a report for Angie?s list and so here it is.           The floors came out beautifully. The one that needed to be stained to match the existing adjacent floors was very well matched. The workers came when they said they would, finished on time and were very courteous. The owner came to measure and gave me more information than the other two flooring companies that I had asked for an estimate. All the estimates came in within $100 dollars of each other, so the price seemed very fair.           The end result produced some side effects for which I was not prepared. I would have liked to have been more informed. The owner called me for feedback and I expressed these concerns. He was receptive so maybe will take them into account with new customers. The first fallout was the amount of dust in the rest of the house. I opted not to use the special extra dust prevention system because it was more expensive and I understood the owner to say that they plasticed off everything and I would not be bothered by the dust unless I was allergic. Though obviously efforts were made to minimize dust, it was everywhere. I have washed every dish, every linen and every piece of furniture etc., in the house. Had I been warned about this, I would have prepared more thoroughly. Also, I was lead to believe there was very little or no odor with the low VOC product Bona.  This is not the case. You don?t want to be home for the first three days and afterwards only if you can keep windows open.  It actually takes about 2 weeks for the entire odor to dissipate.           The work was of excellent quality. Go for the extra dust removal system and find another place to sleep for a few days.

Jimmy, Rudy and team are just now finishing up our project and I am thrilled to share the news. We had our stairs finished and hardwood installed in our hallway. They have done an amazing job. The craftsmanship is immaculate. The work was done neatly with as little dust as one could hope for when working with wood. The are polite, professional and didn't get grumpy when I asked for a few extras. I am a perfectionist and can not find fault with any of the work. The work looks so good I'm regretting my earlier decision to go with a hardwood flooring company in another room which doesn't look quite as nice. I'm considering tearing that out and having KK Hardwood floors do the rest of my house. I did a lot of price shopping and their rates are very competitive or lower than other places. I highly recommend their work to anyone looking for fabulous floors.

I obtained two estimates for this project. KK Hardwood was the lowest. Rudy was very helpful in explaining my flooring options and answering my questions. Rudy visited Home Depot with me and assisted me in selecting the flooring product. When the order arrived, Rudy picked it up and transported it to my home. He scheduled installation quickly. His brother Jimmy and two assistants performed
the project in one day. Jimmy patiently discussed issues with me as the project progressed. Another contractor had indicated that two days was required. If you prefer to work with a small company with a very helpful, professional attitude, I recommend KK Hardwood. The results of the work are beautiful.
