This is the third project Mark Andersen and his crew have done for us. The first two were a new screened porch and complete renovation of two and a half bathrooms, all of which were done to perfection. This job involved: completely gutting and renovating our old, outdated kitchen designing and building a new laundry room addition designing and building a new trash deck renovating our den and hallway The specifics: laundry room addition with entrance from kitchen and exterior exit to new trash deck all new kitchen cabinetry expanded island quartz countertops built-in oven, externally vented microwave, and cooktop new plank ceilings throughout all rooms hardwood flooring in den, kitchen, hall ceramic tile flooring in laundry room built-in cabinetry in laundry room all new overhead lighting in kitchen, hallway, laundry raised panel wainscoting in kitchen and hallway crown molding throughout TV mounted and all wiring hidden additional electrical outlets new pantry with adjustable shelving tile backsplash in kitchen decorative trim on existing soffit shutters in kitchen new media cabinet to match mantel new locks and door hardware all rekeyed This was a very large, complex job that Mark and his crew accomplished even faster than projected and on budget with very few issues. Mark is the consummate professional: he listens, he remains calm and objective, he is flexible, and he offers virtually no push back when anything arises that requires attention. If he has contracted to do something, you can be sure he will work at it until it is perfect. One of the other things we like about Mark is that he does not push his ideas on you, but all the suggestions he made and choices of products we left to him were better than our ideas or selections! Mark also made the beautiful wainscoting and media cabinet himself, which is a huge advantage to hiring him if you want custom wood work. To give you an idea of Mark's dedication: we had ordered a new media cabinet for our remodeled den, but the cabinet arrived broken not once but twice. Right before our work started, I asked Mark if he could make us a similar cabinet. Even on such short notice, he made a gorgeous cabinet to our exact specifications, which turned out much nicer than the one we had originally purchased. The finished renovations and additions were absolutely gorgeous. Our design choices are unusual, but everything came together with Mark and his team's expertise to create not only a much more functional living space but also one that is extremely beautiful. Mark and his team cleaned up every day and never left a mess behind. They tried very hard to keep the mess of a major renovation to a minimum and did everything they could to minimize the disruption to us. They were punctual in both their arrival and departure times. Mark took care of everything involved in the remodeling and building the addition. We felt completely comfortable leaving him and his crew to work in our house all day for the weeks it took to complete the job. This is the company you want to use if you are planning either a major or minor renovation or addition to your home. We wouldn't hire anyone else. Home renovation is not fun, but Mark made the experience as pleasant and stress-free as possible.
Description of Work: Completely renovated and remodeled our kitchen, den, and hall and built a laundry room addition and trash deck.

It went unbelievably well throughout the entire process and the outcome was better than we could have imagined. Mark and his crews are highly skilled, professional and accommodating. Their attention to detail, quality and customer service is unmatched - from my experience with contractors. It feels a bit weird saying this, but the best part of working with them is the fact that they are exceptionally nice people. No request was too big or small, and they honored each request with a smile. Mark is highly skilled, professional, responsive, has excellent demeanor. From the beginning, he quickly understood our needs and was technically adept enough to deliver: Example 1. He was one of the few contractors that we spoke with that measured, calculated and determined right away that the loadbearing wall could come down. An engineer later signed off and so did the county inspector. Example 2. We ordered the cabinets on our own. And when a couple of them showed up being the wrong size, Mark - being the woodworker that he is - was able to cut them down to size. These are just a couple of examples of how seamless and enjoyable it was working with Andersen Woodworking & Remodeling. I can't say enough about Mark and his crews. They all get my highest recommendation.
Description of Work: Andersen Woodworking & Remodeling fully gutted and remodeled our kitchen and mud room, including removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room. They remodeled the powder room, added recessed lights throughout family room / kitchen area, extend the existing hardwood flooring into the mud room and powder room.

I wanted new steps to improve the curb appeal of my house. The old ones were ugly, too steep, unsafe, and generally not to code. I could've had the work done by another company a few weeks sooner. Mark's price was a little better, but - more importantly - I liked his demeanor when I spoke with him. In fact, I never met him before the job was done - I just sent him a picture of the existing stairs and told him what I wanted. Unfortunately, I didn't meet him the day of the job, either, because I had to go into work. I left the job in Mark's hands, and family was in town just in case... He did an amazing job. With the help of one other guy, he worked most of the day to install a beautiful new entryway to my home. He showed up on time, cleaned up as the job progressed, and was professional, friendly, and quiet. He even put up with my young nephew's supervisory attempts. When I got home, there were no leftover splinters of wood - not even sawdust - to be found. The new stairs are incredibly sturdy and look great. I wouldn't hesitate to call Mark for future jobs or recommend him to my neighbors, all of whom have admired his handiwork.
Description of Work: Removed and disposed of existing front stairs. Installed new pressure-treated wood steps, treads, and risers. Installed white vinyl composite railings, posts with caps and bases, and metal balusters.

Great. Its never fun having people invade your home-but Mark and his crew were so professional and courteous. It really was a pleasure working with Mark and his support staff- Michael and Matt. They were efficient and got the job done quickly without sacrificing quality. They paid attention to important details on the project, like making sure the mahogany trim that lines each one of our custom sliding doors matched the home's original character and design. Mark was responsive to my questions and paid attention to various details to make the finished product look as polished as possible. They really did an amazing job and the final product looks beautiful!
Description of Work: We moved into our 1974 custom built post and beam contemporary home Summer of 2014 and were trying to define some problems in our home. We have 8 custom sliders on the back of our home (4 upstairs and 4 downstairs on top of each other). They were divided by the posts that support our home. Our slider's bottom runners were completely warped and we didn't know why (we couldn't even open one of our sliders at all). In addition, we had a deck outside of the home whose beam was rotting and the posts were not properly supporting the load above (its kind of complicated). We weren't sure what even needed to be done. I had 3 other general contractors and several "specialists" (foundation experts, decking experts, window/door experts) come to our home to give me their take on what they thought the problem was and their proposed solution. In the end we chose to go with Mark's plan of demo'ing the deck and replacing all 8 custom sliders.Mark felt that the deck was allowing water into the post that were supporting our home, which could compromise our home's structural integrity. He also thought that our sliders were allowing water into their own sill plates. He believed we needed to entirely demolish our deck and replace all 8 custom sliders. This was a big pill to swallow and I wasn't sure we were doing the right thing (especially when we had another contractor who felt he could salvage our deck)- but I'm so glad we listened to Mark's advice!! He hit the nail on the head as far as the diagnosis of our home's problem (something even the structural engineer who came and evaluated our home wasn't sure about and none of the other contractors/specislists were able to comprehend the etiologies of the various symptoms in our home). Mark discovered that the deck was allowing water into our home. So much so, that one of the posts that supported our home was rotted. About 50% of the beams supporting our deck were rotted and the sill plates of our sliders were also rotted. If we had not moved forward with Mark's suggestions we would have paid much more in long term structural damages (not to mention our safety). Mark obviously has a lot of experience and knowledge and he is able to think critically and look at the details of a home and determine what is going on. I was impressed. And one other rather important detail- Mark offered all the experience and expertise at a very reasonable price. His estimates were the same orless than the other contractors I dealt with. So I felt that Mark delivered high quality service at a reasonable price.

It's near completion and the work is excellent. It should be done by the end of this month. They handle themselves in a workman manor, they are on time, everything that I would expect.
Description of Work: Andersen Woodworking & Remodeling did remodeling for me. His name is Matthew Andersen. They built me a deck and replaced a sliding door.
Mark was extremely professional and prompt for all meetings and work days. He brought four guys to do the heavy lifting demo and initial stage work and they were all courteous and efficient. The work took one day longer than he initially estimated only because we made several last minute changes that he managed expertly. We had them instal new granite counter tops, recessed lighting, back splash along with opening up a doorway with an arched top and rearranging several appliances and cabinets. They also did some drywall work and painted all walls and doors. Mark had great ideas on ways to improve the area and all the fine detail work looks amazing which really won my wife over. I can't recommend this company enough. We'll definitely use him again for our other projects.

This company made our remodeling a breeze with their amazingly professional approach to the entire project. We are extremely pleased with the quality of their work. They made sure we were completely satisfied by accommodating any minor changes we requested. They came on time each day, were on task the entire time, cleaned up before leaving each day. They were very prompt in responding to phones and emails. Plumber and other sub-contractors were scheduled in a timely manner. We would definitely hire Andersen Woodworking & Remodeling for any future projects without any hesitation. Highly recommend hiring them for all your home improvement projects.

After we had 1/2 of our deck enclosed, the contractor wanted $2800 to finish the ceiling. I knew the materials cost was only about $500, and the price seemed very high (it is a cathedral ceiling, about 220 sq. ft.). I solicited several other bids from top rated contractors but the price kept going up (I even had one quote for $6300!). Mark was the last one to visit, and it was clear that he had a lot of experience doing this kind of work. He gave me quotes for using different materials, and gave me a separate estimate for him to seal the wood (which I elected to do myself). His quote to install the ceiling was right where I thought it should be, and after all of the high quotes I had I was ecstatic to have found someone with Mark's reputation offering a reasonable price. Mark's work was first class, and he did an excellent job dealing with the mis-aligned trusses on the roof. He worked by himself and completed the job in 1-1/2 days (others said 2 men 2-5 days). Every aspect of this project was handled professionally and I couldn't be more pleased. My only regret is that I didn't find Mark before I had the deck enclosed. In the future, I will reach out to Mark first for any construction / finishing projects and I highly recommend that you do the same if you have a similar project.

This is the 2nd time we have used Andersen Woodworking. The first time was in 2013 for repairs (almost a rebuild) of the front porch of our home. Because that was such a good experience we felt more comfortable with the decision to knock a small room off the back of our 115 year old house and expand our kitchen into that space as well as add a porch to the back of the house. Though I had consulted with a kitchen designer, I felt that he had not understood my wish to keep the integrity and feel of the house. I called Mark Andersen and he came over to talk to me about it. As usual, he was right on time (the only time he was unable to make an appointment, he both texted and called ahead of time). He listened carefully to me, understood that I wanted to double the size of the kitchen and wanted the back porch to look like it had been here all along. He took photos and notes, and got back to me within a week with a proposal. We decided to go ahead and do it; ( I'd done some checking and thought his estimate was a fair one). I have to mention that we live in a designated historic district, so there are a few more hoops than usual to jump through, but Mark is up to the task. We got approval for the plan, and Mark gave us a start date of mid-June. In mid-May, we met again to firm up the look of the interior and Mark offered some really good suggestions on layout and cabinetry, which I appreciated very much. The week before work was set to begin, he sent an email asking if we would mind if he started dropping some equipment off. That was fine with us, so on the appointed day they were ready to go. (Like Mark, his crew was punctual and courteous, never leaving a mess. His sub-contractors are great as well; I spoke with a few and they all said they liked working with Mark and his crew. Long story short, what can you say when your remodeling project finishes a week early and under budget? I know that may not happen all the time, and maybe some of the budget reduction is due to choices I made, but the workmanship is quality, and the look is perfect for an old farmhouse. My husband and I have been cooking like crazy since the kitchen's been finished, and it is a pleasure to work in this space; Mark was absolutely right with his ideas for the layout. Now my husband and I sit on our gorgeous back porch and look at all the work that needs to get done in the garden (sigh). We recommend Andersen Woodworking without hesitation.

Like many decks, our hot, exposed, buggy old deck saw little use and had become an eyesore over time. We hired Andersen Woodworking based on glowing Angie's List reviews and a very reasonable estimate. The weather, of course, did not cooperate with Mark's schedule, but the slight delays were in no way his fault and his crew was always back to work as soon as the snow stopped falling. They tore down and hauled away the old deck and expertly constructed a new porch using first-rate materials. The final product greatly exceeded our expectations because not only is it beautifully made, it is truly beautiful. The only extra cost was due to the more expensive door we chose. Everything else was covered by the original estimate. Mark even measured and installed our outdoor shades, which was not in the original contract. He goes above and beyond to ensure excellence and satisfaction. The team cleaned up every day and never left a mess behind. They were punctual in both their arrival and departure times, which is very important to us because we plan future interior remodeling where it's essential to minimize disruptions to daily life by having established work hours. Mark was extremely responsive to questions I sent by email and I always heard back from him promptly. He is a very personable, impressive young man who clearly takes great pride and pleasure in his work. Because Andersen is a small company, you will need to get on the schedule well in advance of any work you need done. However, it's worth the wait to have this kind of quality work.

I contacted Andersen Woodworking to create a bid based on an architects plans. Mark's response was prompt and his price was competitive. We chose Andersen Woodworking because Mark's reputation is fantastic; Mark completed a kitchen remodel for a friend's friend, the reference he provided was extremely satisfied and his Angie's List reviews are great. When we started to talk about start dates Mark informed us that was booked for nearly 4 months. While disappointed in the wait, we were confident that we made the right choice based on our dealings with Mark and his reputation. While we waited for construction to begin, Mark was available for questions and provided numerous recommendations as we picked out cabinets, counters, flooring, lights, etc. Mark and his crew began the project, on time, with the exterior work which included removal of the existing porch roof and brick support columns. Everyday work began at 8 and ended by 5 after a thorough cleanup. Mark was very dedicated to the project and onsite every day. This was not one of those situations where you talk to the contractor during the bid process and then rarely see him again while his crew does the work. Mark led from the front and was hands on throughout the course of the project. One weekend when the addition was framed and covered with a tarp, Mark came by to check on it because it was windy and the forecast was calling for rain. When interior work began, Mark and his crew removed the exterior wall, gutted the kitchen and removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room. They were very conscious of dust and dirt and did everything they could to minimize the mess and cleaned up at the end of every day. Mark and his crew were very trustworthy and we had no worries leaving our house unattended. Mark's plumbers and electricians were great to work with too; courteous and professional. Throughout it all, Mark and his guys (Matt and Andrew) were working in the cold, wind, rain and snow. We were working from an architect's plan, but there were several times when Mark suggested some tweaks. Mark clearly understands the work and has a great deal of experience to call upon. We are glad Mark suggested the changes he did because the project turned out great. When we had questions, Mark always took time to discuss things with us. Mark was very flexible and never tried to "nickel and dime" us as the project moved along. We have recommended Andersen Woodworking and Remodeling to friends and will consider Mark for future projects.

We found Mark on Angie's List with great ratings and warm recommendations. Mark was always very open with us and admitted he could not get to the Powder Room until February, about 5 months from when we called. We were fine with that. Then I asked if he could squeeze in a replacement staircase to the deck entry of the home, hopefully prior to the first snows, since one of the steps was dangerously loose. Mark did do that, although Mother Nature beat him to the punch by a couple of days. But the stairs are great, properly sloped and a welcome change. The Powder room was a badly needed addition to the home, housing our friends and tenants with 4 children, it converted the home from 1 to 1.5 baths. Mark brought in Alpha Plumbing to help, and the work was done on budget, on schedule (aside from understandable weather delays), and the workmanship is superb. We were involved in selecting all of the parts, and Mark handled the gathering of the parts, excellent workmanship, and we are very pleased with the work. Additionally, they replaced the sink in the existing bathroom, which makes it more pleasant as well. We are so impressed that we are planning on Mark making a major remodeling of the home probably later this year. I can not recommend a contractor any more highly than Mark Andersen and his crew!

The spring of 2013, Mr. Andersen had done some excellent, creative work with doing repairs on the front porch of our house within the historic district. He had to be creative because of all the constraints that are put on home owners in our area. After deciding we wanted to update and enlarge the kitchen of our home, and build a back porch, Mark was one of several contractors that I contacted. I will say, he was the only one who really listened to me, and also could appreciate that I didn't want a "cookie cutter" approach that includes whatever is fashionable in kitchens this year. He understands that a careful integration of styles is very important to the look of this house. Also, he was very quick with responding with a quote. If he can work us in, we'll use him. He really listens.

I Contacted Andersen Woodworking in November 2012 after seeing his work at a neighbor?s. Mark quickly returned my e-mail and we setup a time when he would come to my home to review the project area and to discuss a start date. Following our meeting at my home, Mark promptly provided his cost proposal for the requested work stated the following: We settled on an amount and scheduled the work to commence in January 2013. The total time required ended up being 3 full workdays. Upon arrival, Mark set his two man crew into motion and before long, the three of them were placing framing as designed. By the end of day one, the framing was in place and the drywall was hung with an initial coat of mud applied. Day two consisted of finishing what would become the interior of the closet, measuring door trim, and more taping/mudding of the seams. On day three, the seams were sanded smooth, trim was installed, baseboards were nailed in place and two coats of paint were applied. All through the process, Mark ensured his crew performed quality work. He went above and beyond in protecting the furnishings...particularly when the sanding began on the drywall seams! Raising protective plastic enclosures, he kept the dust to an absolute minimum. On the secone day I requested that Mark install a door to a storage area I have in the garage. While this was not part of the original contract Mark agreed to install the door for a nominal cost of $100.00. I can't say enough about the professional demeanor, skill level and craftsmanship inherent in Andersen Woodworking. Here are the key takeways: · - Arrived on time and ready to work EVERY day · - Executed agreed to design with NO deviations · - Graciously answered questions about how the framing would be integrated into the existing structure · - "Clean as you Go" was the order of the day job site always orderly at the end of the day · - Stayed within agreed to budget · - Completed job "on time" without taking any shortcuts · - Quality reflected in every aspect from trim work to smooth corners... The completed project was so smooth and flawless that it looked like the builder had designed it from the start...it blends seamlessly with the rest of the living space...which I believe is the highest complement anyone can provide for an interior alteration/addition. It was a painless and straightforward project...executable because of the honesty, integrity and work ethic of Andersen Woodworking.
Description of Work: I contracted with Andersen Woodworking to construct an interior wall section with closet and doorway. Finish all walls with drywall, painted and trimmed to match existing. Install single door leading into the bedroom area and double 36” door into closet. I requested a door style to match existing doors. I also requested that Mark relocate 1 pot light and install a new wall switch plus an additional cable TV outlet in the new room. Close to the end of the project I requested that Mark install a door to a storage area I have in the garage. The project enclosed a room on the ground floor of a townhouse resulting in an "en suite" with a new closet and privacy for guests.

I contacted the provider, to have someone install simple shelves in my home office, but nothing fancy or built in. The good? The provider responded within a day and was up front with when they could get to me. The bad? The provider said they would not be able to get to me until January. Must be nice to have so much business that potential customers have a three month waiting list. I'll look elsewhere--I'm sure in this economy there are other carpenters who are a little hungrier for work.

Response from Andersen Woodworking & Remodeling LLC
We are a small construction company that runs 1 crew, 1 job at a time. We choose to do this in order to maintain high quality service, as well as a very personal approach to our customers. Unfortunately because of our size and reputation our construction schedule fills up very quickly usually resulting in a 3-4 month wait for new customers. Thanks to Angie's List we receive a high volume of work requests. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate all of our potential customers within their desired time frame. We choose to be upfront with all requests as to our timeline, and not provide estimates to those wanting a quick turn around if we cannot accommodate it. We are very thankful to receive so much business in this type of economy. I'm sure there are many high quality companies out there that have more man power and can accommodate shorter time frames. Mark was great to work with; he was reliable, appeared when promised, did fine work and costs were exactly as agreed. His helpers were a little more varied; a couple of them were less experienced and less likely to pay careful attention to detail. Sometimes they were in a bit of a hurry and neglected details but Mark was quick to make corrections when things were brought to his attention. Overall, the experience was a pleasure and the results were great. I would recommend Mark Anderson and would use them again if the occasion arose.

When we decided to add a second story deck to our house there was only one contractor we considered, Mark Andersen. His company, Andersen Woodworking and Remodeling LLC had done the project of remodeling our master bedroom the previous year and we found his services to be outstanding in every way. The deck project was not just a remodel, but involved a complete build from the ground up, including adding a new doorway from our kitchen to the new deck. We had a design in mind and Mark made changes to make the traffic flow much better than we could have planned on our own. He also deftly included access to the back garage door which finally made it possible to go from the garage directly to the kitchen. We also had the additional challenge of having a septic system which required further changes to the plans to meet county codes. Mark was great at taking care of all of these challenges and he and his crew produced a structure that is as beautiful as it is functional. This summer's entertaining has been greatly improved with this addition. It adds a whole new living space to the house (two rooms, counting the useable space beneath the deck). Marks input was invaluable including the choice of materials (we went with the low maintenance artificial decking) to the layout and color. The project was completed on schedule and budget and will be enjoyed for many years to come. We can not say enough good things about Mark and his crew. They are reliable, trustworthy and honest. His engineering knowledge and design style add to his many fine traits. We will not hesitate to use him again for any other projects we have.

Amazing! We liked Mark the first time we met with him, but we still met with four other contractors to get bids. We were very pleasantly surprised that his bid was the lowest that we received. His allowances for materials were a little lower than the other contractors, but, in the end, the cost of the renovation was still lower than the other bids we received. Mark estimated that the entire renovation from demo to final details would take 9 weeks. He started exactly on his predicted start date. Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control (rain daily for what felt like 40 days and 40 nights) the project took 10 weeks. He had already given himself that extra week cushion in his schedule, so he was not late starting his next project! We liked the suppliers he recommended for granite, floors, and tiles. The others we did on our own (cabinets, lights, knobs.) The guys (Mark, Matt, and Andrew) showed up promptly and ready to work by 8 o'clock every day; they were cleaning up and getting out of here by 4:30 on almost every day. I think there were 2 days when they worked a little later, but not much. They tidied their things and vacuumed at the end of every day. All three guys are friendly and polite; not a smoker in the lot! They were very courteous of the fact that we were trying to live in the house while they were renovating. The work that they did seems to have been done very well. Our new kitchen space is just lovely. The floors look great, the stairs look great, the lighting looks great. On the rare instances when something was not to our liking, Mark worked with us to make it right. His itemized final bill was exactly what we expected. I cannot say enough good things about our experience. I would absolutely recommend Andersen Woodworking to anyone, and we would use them again, if we need work done in the future.

We contracted Mark to create a finished room over our garage. We also had him do a variety of miscellaneous things from installing vanities, crown moulding, setting footers for a shed, etc. I can not say enough about what a positive experience we had with Andersen Woodworking/Redmodeling. From setting up an initial meeting, to giving revised estimates, to responding to questions throughout the project Mark was VERY prompt in his responses to emails and phone calls. He was on the job every day and he and his crew were the ones who did everything with the exception of the electrical work and the insulation -- this was a huge plus because we weren't dealing with a lot of subcontractors that we didn't know. His crew was professional, respectful and highly efficient. Every day they left their work areas immaculate. Throughout the project we changed our minds about a couple of things and he took these changes in stride and happily honored all of our requests. He estimated that our project would be done in 4 weeks and I thought "There's no way they'll be done in that time", but true to his word, I think it took 4 weeks and 2 days ;) We are extremely happy with the finished product of our new room and would highly recommend Andersen Woodworking and Remodeling. We would use them for future projects without question. Mark is the best! :)

Mark Andersen was one of 3 contactors that I'd called to give an estimate on repairing the front porch of my home. Because my house is within a historic district, it limits what can be done to it; one can repair, not replace, which means you have to be able to think outside of the box. Mark was able to negotiate the demands of historical preservation and still make me happy with a lovely, safer front porch. What made this experience a little different is that my husband and I were called to California for an emergency and were unable to be at our house while the work was done. Nevertheless, Mark got it done and we came home to a beautful porch. I highly recommend him. .

We obtained 3 bids from contractors on Angies list and his was the least expensive. He presented us with a detailed description of the work he would do and how long it would take and when he could start. He actually was able to start a month earlier than he expected. The whole job was finished in 5 days as promised and looked great Mark and his team were polite and professional. We will definitely call him the next time we need any work done.
Description of Work: Tore down the existing structure ( long screened in porch with electrical outlets inside) and carted it all away. Erected a wooden deck with railings over the existing cement pad. Installed snding over areas exposed after tearing down the old porch.
