Mark is easy to work with and he and his team do great work. They stick to their schedule, arrive on time each day, do their best to be unobtrusive, and leave the work site clean each day. Mark is very willing to work to incorporate any changes and to make trade-offs within the budget. His tile work is beautiful. His subcontractors are very easy to work with as well. We did have a problem with the sewage pump in the basement, which was a defect in the equipment itself, and the plumbing subcontractor came back repeatedly and fixed it under warranty with no cost to us. We've been very happy with our basement and bathrooms, and we'll be looking to Mark for our future home projects as well.
Description of Work: Mark did a complete basement remodel for us in December, 2011. It included re-framing, re-wiring, installing a completely new bathroom, drywall, floor installation, and painting. Total cost approximately $25K. We had Mark back in February, 2016, to completely remodel two bathrooms and remove wallpaper and paint two bedrooms. The bathroom remodels included complete demolition and re-wiring, new drywall, new fixtures, tile work, and painting. Total cost approximately $31K.

We wanted to give the exterior of our house a minor facelift, as well as fix the concrete garage floor that was cracked down the center and sagging. Mark was one of only two contractors out of the dozen I contacted who were professional enough to even answer my request for a quote. He was booked for a couple months out but was able to take on the work after that. Mark and his crew were very professional, courteous, and thorough. They were clear about what they were going to do, and they asked questions when necessary. They were careful in their work and kept a clean work site. They even built me a new workbench in the garage when they discovered that the old one was too damaged by termites to be reused. The concrete sub-contractor did a great job and had a hard-working crew.
Description of Work: New front entry, new garage slab, removal of old window awnings and shutters.

It was a very beautiful and successful renovation. Mark Anderson was a joy to work with and his associates were both excellent, skilled craftsmen. One of the elements of the job was a custom wood vanity, which Mark designed and built. The caliber of the piece exceeded our expectations. If we had questions or comments throughout the process, Mark always responded quickly and graciously. We highly recommend Anderson Woodworking and Remodeling.

I contracted with Mark in the Fall of 2015. He responded to my email within 24 hours and scheduled an estimate. He was ontime and provided a very detailed estimate. I had contacted 3 other contractors, two of whom showed up to do an estimate and never got back to me. So I had to decide between two estimates that were comparable in price. I chose Mark Anderson because of his responsiveness; the thoroughness and prompt estimate; and the allowance feature of his estimate for tile, granite, light fixtures, faucets etc. Mark uses Classic Granite in Columbia for countertops. I was able to go to Classic Granite and work with them to find exactly what I wanted out of many many choices. I could have selected tile from anywhere knowing the allowance. I went with Columbia Tile and Marble in Elkridge. After selecting my tile and granite--Mark worked with these companies for all the details. The job duration would be a total of 3 weeks. Unfortunately we ended up with the big snow storm on their start date so things were delayed a couple of days. Still everything was completed within the time frame. The finished product exceeded my expectations. I am so happy with my kitchen and bathrooms! The men worked carefully and accurately, they cleaned up every day before they left. When a problem with the granite countertop installation occurred. Both Mark and Classic Granite made sure it was redone correctly. When a nail ended up going through a pipe causing a leak, Mark sent the plumber immediately and took care of both the pipe repair and the ceiling repair from the leak. Mark Anderson stands by his work and proved that he will promptly address any problem that might occur--and they sometimes do. Mark also designed new doors for a bathroom linen closet and and my kitchen pantry. I had old metal bifolds that were rusty and gross; I needed something that would look nice, not take up too much space; and not limit my access to the upped shelves. He came up with a double door that is perfect for both rooms. I would not hesitate to use Mark Anderson for any other general contracting work. He is honest, responsive, diligent, creative and a true professional in every way. I especially appreciated his diligence and getting the job done without slinging it out over many weeks. He is dedicated to his craft and it shows. He also has the management skills to take care of the business end of estimating and scheduling -an area where other small contractors often fall short. I give Mark Anderson my highest recommendation.
Description of Work: Mark and his team remodeled our kitchen and three bathrooms including flooring, tiling, design and build of new pantry and bathroom closet doors, countertops, installed light fixtures, painted rooms; and installed new appliances.

The process went well and we were very satisfied with the work performed by Mark and his team. We had a 16x20 foot addition added to the house which contained a bathroom. The room was for my mother to move in with us. Mark quoted us the project and then once we decided to book there was a wait of several months to begin work. I appreciate that Mark does not take on more work than his company can handle and dedicates himself to his projects. The crew would arrive everyday on time to begin working and would clean up each day at the end. You almost did not know when they were here or when they left. Throughout the process Mark and his crew were very easy to work with and professional. They matched the pitch of the addition roof to the existing house and the siding was also a perfect match. If you had never seen the house before you would be unable to tell that we had added on. At the end of construction two things happened which were a surprise and based upon past experiences unusual. First they finished the project ahead of schedule. This was great since I could get my mother in sooner. Second they finished under the original estimate. Mark returned once to take care of one small problem and I am sure if there are any issues in the future he will do the same. I would not hesitate to recommend Mark and his team in the future and should the need arise for additional work on my home, he would be the first call.

Both projects went very well. The crew showed up on time on a daily basis. Quality of the work was excellent. They cleaned up the work site every day when they were done working for the day. The crew showed up promptly on the correct date and got to work right away. The workers were very polite and worked well as a team. I expected this to take 2 days to complete but they did the demolition part in the morning and rebuilding in the afternoon so they finished in 1 day. The end result was great with the new flooring being very sturdy and looking really nice. I appreciated their flexibility in handling some small unplanned things since my home is nearly 100 years old and you never know what you are going to find once you get into a job. I believe there was a little more lumber involved in the framing part then they expected but there was no extra charge for the materials or labor which was much appreciated. Overall I was very impressed with this contractor and would definitely have them back for future work. I got several estimates from other contractors and Anderson Woodworking was by far the best price which was an added bonus for the whole project!
Description of Work: Removed 2 layers of wooden porch flooring and steps. Rebuilt framing for floor to reinforce it and then installed new flooring and steps using manufactured lumber. Part of the job also required removal and re-installation of vinyl siding around the porch perimeter.

Things went very smoothly. The crew put up the deck despite record hot temperatures. Mark had a great idea for where to put the stairwell for our deck that I hadn't thought of and this was a major improvement on the project. Everything was pretty seamless. Not much to tell other than that they did exactly what we agreed upon and more, so they made it easy. We've had Andersen Woodworking do other projects at our home and as usual they were professional and proficient. I am actually particularly detail oriented and difficult to please, so the fact that I literally cannot find anything wrong and was pleased with the process is a huge compliment. They did a great job!

Mark did a great job. Our porch presents problems as it is screened 2-story, and it is very high off the ground. The crew came on time, were very professional, worked steadily, very neat, very quiet. Mark used a different approach from the original screening, opting to frame the screen within each section. This was a great idea so if we ever experience damage in the future, the panel could be replaced without re-doing the entire porch. The finished porch looks terrific. Price was good and I would highly recommend Anderson Woodworking and Remodeling to others. I will certainly contact them for any future remodeling work.

It went extremely well. Mark and his team were courteous, on time and professional at all times. All of my expectations and concerns were listened to. e.g. Because of the design of the tile that I selected, I was concerned that if the tiles were just placed as they came out of the box it would look choppy. The design of the tile went from side to side; however, some tiles had the design going from corner to corner. Matt took the time to listen to my concerns. He and Andrew sorted through all tiles before installing them to be sure the entire back wall had the tiles where the design went from side to side and the other tiles were used for the other two walls. Their work was beautiful. We already have them scheduled to perform other work for us.
Description of Work: They removed and disposed of existing bathroom shower unit and tile section of flooring. Removed 5' of wall and re-framed back wall approximately 1'. The plumber relocated all water lines in wall, replaced the shower drain to accommodate liner, HVAC supply line and condensate drain from the water heater was relocated. They framed in a bench seat in shower and installed a liner and mud base for tile shower floor. All shower walls to ceiling and shower floor was tiled, as well as the floor right outside the shower where existing tile floor was removed. The shower remodel also included installing a tile niche, two corner shelves, a grab bar and a sliding shower door. Lastly, they painted the entire bathroom ceiling so that the paint would match shade.

We live in a two story house that was constructed in 1949. Our hallway ceilings, and narrow, winding, paint-stripped staircase, were sorely in need of work. We had interviewed various contractors over the years, trying to find someone who would remove the old pine treads, and replace them with oak. The usual suggestion was to cover over the pine treads with oak retreads. Adding oak treads on top of the pine would have taken away much needed clearance at the bottom of the staircase, as well as creating a high step at the top of the staircase. Three years prior, in the search for more clearance, we had opened up the first-floor staircase entrance ceiling. We were met with primitive construction in the form of a bulky piece of 2 x 10 that was being used to stabilize two floor joists, as well as to hold plaster/drywall. Needless to say, the hole remained there until we found Mark. Mark and his team pulled off the old pine treads. They sanded and painted the risers and stringers. They hand-cut, sanded and clear-coated the new oak treads. They cut trim to go over the stringers, doing a great job where the staircase curved. They cut out the 2 X 10 and created internal support by the joists. They installed drywall that mirror-imaged the lower stair, adding clearance as the stairs rose. Upstairs they relocated a fire/smoke detector, and installed drywall over the cracked 2nd story ceiling. (Pulling down the old plaster would have led to the insulation in the roof/attic falling.) In addition they painted all walls and ceilings in the downstairs and upstairs hallway. Mark is a person of high integrity, honesty, and construction expertise. His teams are young people who are respectful, attentive and are held to a high standard. If something is not right, Mark goes the extra mile to make it right. We were very satisfied with the result. We plan on working with Mark on some other projects.
Description of Work: Drywalled over existing upstairs hallway ceiling; Repaired, refinished stringers and risers, as well as replaced and installed new oak treads in existing hallway staircase; completely plastered, sanded, painted, and fixed the downstairs hallway, including reinforcing downstairs hallway ceiling above staircase entrance with a masterful piece of wood and drywall engineering.

Andersen Woodworking (AW) did an outstanding job on our project. Throughout the course of (6) weeks we got to know both the owner and the key members of his crew. Everyone was beyond courteous throughout the entire project and cleaned up every night. They even cleaned sections of the house that we weren't using. In the middle of the project our son was born (about 1 month early) which threw quite a monkey wrench into the renovation plans. AW was amazingly accommodating and always checked in with my wife to make sure the construction noise didn't bother our newborn. When contemplating who to choose as a general contractor, for a renovation of a house that you're living in during the project, the little things can make a huge difference. A couple of examples the following: Respectful of interruptions: One day while tiling one of the bathrooms a large storm came so AW setup their cutting area outside under a makeshift canopy as to not bother my wife and son while they slept upstairs. It was during a heavy downpour but they went out of their way to make sure they weren?t interrupted and that they could keep their schedule. Boots & shoes: Whenever the crew needed to use a bathroom or sink in a part of the house that wasn't actively under construction they always removed their shoes. You wouldn't think that would make a difference until you try to actually live in the house while it's being renovated. Plastic Walls: As we renovated the two floors of our house we worried that the sanding of the drywall mud would cause a massive amount of dust throughout the rest of the house. The AW crew spent roughly an hour setting up an elaborate temporary plastic wall and vacuumed everything after the sanding. The result was that you couldn't even tell any sanding had occurred anywhere! Similarly, when windows were replaced they would setup temporary walls inside to prevent dust from exceeding a small area around the window. The result was that you came home to find a brand new window with virtually no evidence of being installed. Throwing in the extras: Throughout the project we discussed many intricate details with AW and it almost never resulted in an extra fee unless it was clearly additional scope. Additionally, AW has returned numerous times to fix issues found after the job was complete. My wife and I would (and have) recommend AW to others!

We contacted Andersen Woodworking to redesign and make over our kitchen. It was long overdue and we are quite happy with the results. Mark was great from our initial meeting where he measured and estimated the project to the last day where he literally handed me the keys to the new front door. Our project, from what I think, was pretty straight forward where we gave Mark our ideas and he transformed them into the kitchen of our dreams. His estimate came back lower than the others which was good and once we set a date to begin the project it couldn't have gone any smoother. His crew arrived every morning exactly at 8:30am ready to work. They worked all day and neatly swept and cleaned the work area as much as possible every night. All of the crew was friendly and I totally felt comfortable if I had to leave the house while they were they working. As the kitchen came together the attention to detail was great. Any questions or concerns I had were quickly handled or taken care of by the next day. Not only did Andersen Woodworking install new kitchen cabinets but also new flooring throughout the kitchen to the front foyer area as well as a new front door. Mark and his crew were flexible as we slightly modified the plans as we went along adding and taking items off the original estimate. It was a pleasure having a knowledgeable contractor come in and not only complete the job but actually finish on time and budget. If you're looking for a reliable contractor I would recommend Andersen Woodworking for any of your home improvement needs. We will be using them again in the future. -Brad Jobmann

Basic work was fine at best, but the fit, finish, and other details were extremely poor for a company with woodworking in the name. If you hire them expect to do the last bit of work yourself. That includes bad seem, miters, nail holes, pitch for drainage,etc... We contacted them about some of these issues, and my wife got a bad attitude from them when they returned to correct work, They did only half of what was asked to be corrected. Days after we discovered damage to our newly installed stone front porch. Overall they were heavily overpriced, with poor servive

Great. Its never fun having people invade your home-but Mark and his crew were so professional and courteous. It really was a pleasure working with Mark and his support staff- Michael and Matt. They were efficient and got the job done quickly without sacrificing quality. They paid attention to important details on the project, like making sure the mahogany trim that lines each one of our custom sliding doors matched the home's original character and design. Mark was responsive to my questions and paid attention to various details to make the finished product look as polished as possible. They really did an amazing job and the final product looks beautiful!
Description of Work: We moved into our 1974 custom built post and beam contemporary home Summer of 2014 and were trying to define some problems in our home. We have 8 custom sliders on the back of our home (4 upstairs and 4 downstairs on top of each other). They were divided by the posts that support our home. Our slider's bottom runners were completely warped and we didn't know why (we couldn't even open one of our sliders at all). In addition, we had a deck outside of the home whose beam was rotting and the posts were not properly supporting the load above (its kind of complicated). We weren't sure what even needed to be done. I had 3 other general contractors and several "specialists" (foundation experts, decking experts, window/door experts) come to our home to give me their take on what they thought the problem was and their proposed solution. In the end we chose to go with Mark's plan of demo'ing the deck and replacing all 8 custom sliders.Mark felt that the deck was allowing water into the post that were supporting our home, which could compromise our home's structural integrity. He also thought that our sliders were allowing water into their own sill plates. He believed we needed to entirely demolish our deck and replace all 8 custom sliders. This was a big pill to swallow and I wasn't sure we were doing the right thing (especially when we had another contractor who felt he could salvage our deck)- but I'm so glad we listened to Mark's advice!! He hit the nail on the head as far as the diagnosis of our home's problem (something even the structural engineer who came and evaluated our home wasn't sure about and none of the other contractors/specislists were able to comprehend the etiologies of the various symptoms in our home). Mark discovered that the deck was allowing water into our home. So much so, that one of the posts that supported our home was rotted. About 50% of the beams supporting our deck were rotted and the sill plates of our sliders were also rotted. If we had not moved forward with Mark's suggestions we would have paid much more in long term structural damages (not to mention our safety). Mark obviously has a lot of experience and knowledge and he is able to think critically and look at the details of a home and determine what is going on. I was impressed. And one other rather important detail- Mark offered all the experience and expertise at a very reasonable price. His estimates were the same or less than the other contractors I dealt with. So I felt that Mark delivered high quality service at a reasonable price.

Andersen Woodworking does fine, detailed carpentry. My home was only 5 years old but the builder had done a terrible job in putting in double front doors. They were hung in the opening crooked, there were gaps and it was ugly. Anderson was able to come in install doors properly and set the doors so that you don't know the opening was made badly. I would hire them again in a minute if they were not so busy.
