I'll let you know when it's done.
Description of Work: Mr. Presti submitted a proposal to have my bathroom totally gutted and remodeled. When I expressed to him that the total amount was over my budget, he showed concern and tried to negotiate the same amount of work as close to my budget as he could. He cut the price down to an awesome amount, but still out of my reach. Mr. Presti is a very kind and generous person who will work with you to get the work done. I will definitely contact him in the future.

Very responsive an friendly. I would definitely use them again. Previous estimates were much higher for the same amount of work and he was very reasonable. It was a small job, but he still took time to get to me, even with a busy schedule.

The work started and ended on time. It took exactly one month. I was out of the country during the entire demolition and remodel. I waited a couple of months to write this review to be able to ascertain how everything worked in the bathroom. Everything works wonderfully. I now have a bathroom that is better than that which you find in a five star hotel. His advice about the shower pan was important to follow. Mr. Presti wants to do high quality work and knows when the type of materials used makes a difference in the quality of the end product. He persuaded me away from using a cheap acrylic shower pan. I am very glad that I paid the extra money to have a proper shower pan design installed. I would recommend meeting with all of the sub-contractors he uses and assembling all of their estimates and ask lots of questions before making your final decision on the project. There were two outside sub-contractors that I used. Although he recommended me to a very classy and well run granite counter top company, they did not happen to have the particular color palate I wanted. Since time was of the essence, I used another highly rated granite supplier for the job. I also used a highly rated (Angie's List) mirror and shower door contractor. Mr. Presti worked well with them to keep the project on schedule. The workmanship on the vanity by Mr. Presti was of such high quality. I took his word for it when I authorized it. After it was installed, I visited a kitchen place and opened and closed drawers and doors and looked at the construction. Mr. Presti's work was far superior to what the kitchen place had to offer.
Description of Work: Complete demolition and remodel of owner's bath in townhouse. Gus also designed and made the new vanity.

We left the above-mentioned voicemail message on June 9, 2014. We included our complete contact information and provided a brief description of the scope of work for the project. A week has passed (today is June 16), and we have received no communication from the contractor.
Description of Work: Nothing. We left a message on the contractor's voicemail to request an appointment for an estimate.

This was the first major renovation project my wife and I had done for our house. When the shower wall in the kid's bathroom cracked in, I popped onto Angie's List to look for nearby contractors, and Gustavo "Gus" Presti was among the highest rated and closest, so we decided to give him a try. Gus was very personable and professional over the phone, and equally so when he came in person to evaluate the potential work and provide an estimate. His initial $4K quote for a patch job on the kids' bathroom (replacing the shower-side wall and all of the bath tiling; handling the wood rot just outside the tub; re-tiling the floor; painting) was anywhere from $500-1200 more than was quoted by three other contractors that I spoke with (though no others actually came to our home to do a physical evaluation, basing their initial pricing on Gus' work statement and measurements). But given his Angie's list ratings and reviews, and immediate availability, I elected to accept his bid. When my wife encouraged me to expand the scope of the work to a long-awaited full remodel of this bathroom as well as the master bath and the downstairs 1/2 bath, we stuck with Gus and his new estimate (~ $16K) as well. It is my personal opinion that Gus' work rates are probably at a premium compared to other contractors. But I am convinced that he is the embodiment of the principle "You get what you pay for," and am comfortable giving him an "A" rating on price because of this distinction. This was probably the best decision I've made in a long time, and certainly the best where my home was concerned. Gus and his team were unfailingly professional and punctual. They managed to complete the work on all three bathrooms in about 2 weeks time, which struck me as blazingly quick for three full remodels. We paid for the materials ourselves (making our final overall costs closer to $22K), but when our schedules clashed with purchase making, Gus stepped in to acquire materials to our specifications in order to keep things moving on schedule. Dealing with a more extensive wood rot problem in the master bathroom bumped up the final cost as well, but we were in full agreement considering the state of the damage that it couldn't be helped. Gus' accessibility was quite remarkable. Being complete novices at this sort of thing, my wife and I would text him at all hours of the early morning and late night (since this is when we did most of our hardware store shopping and decision making). He always responded quickly, provided solid advice, and constantly made observations on both style and function that we would not have considered. In the end, the work came out fabulously; I may provide some photos of the finished product if I get a chance. My wife spends a not-insignificant amount of time hanging out in each of the bathrooms sighing happily to herself. Gus' efforts may have actually helped my marriage. ;-) Two anecdotes: I was medicating a pet goldfish for a bladder disease that occasionally makes him swim upside down. I was surprised to receive a concerned call from Gus that my fish was floating upside down and that he wanted to let me know so I could potentially handle the situation before my kids came home, and if there was anything he could do to help. I let him know that "Otto" was actually fine, but it was both awesome and sweet that he cared. Secondly, our gardening service accidentally cracked our above ground sump pump drain, causing tons of sump water to run out across our unhappy neighbor's lawn every other day with the recent rainy weather. Gus took a minimal amount of time to patch up both the PVC piping and our relationship with our neighbors. We actually contracted Gus again, for the more extensive job of moving this piping underground, beneath the sidewalk to the street to spare our front lawn the water erosion, and to clear the view through our basement windows (this work was completed yesterday). I have been handing out Gus' business card a lot lately. I have referred him to my brother, my sump-pump neighbors, several co-workers, and the manager of a cleaning service (who asked for his information herself while inspecting our property), and am happy to recommend him to the Angie's List community.

Gus gave me the best quote, was timely, flexible, and did a great job. Over the 30 years I've lived here I've used contractors for a variety of jobs including roofing, windows, and an addition. Gus is the only one to do the job right. No complaints, no call backs, no attempts to add unneeded/unwanted elements to the job. Just perfect!

He seemed very professional, and he responded very quickly when I asked him to come out. He brought an assistant with him and spent some time looking around. He said that to finish the estimate he would need to bring a ladder to look at the third floor, and said we would get an estimate by the end of the week. As far as we know, he never came back, and he never gave me the estimate. A little over a week later, I called him politely asking for the estimate, and I have never gotten a phone call back, much less the estimate.
Description of Work: I called him for an estimate to work on windows on the exterior of the house.

Overall, the process was slow, due to the small size of Gus's workforce. He has one regular helper, and sometimes one additional man. That being said, everything was done beautifully and with great care and pride. Gus may be relatively young, but he has the sensibilities of a much more mature, old world man. He is extremely talented and versatile in the scope of what he can do. Furthermore, Gus is a problem solver - an attribute which proved invaluable many times during our renovation. Gus is reliable and always promptly responsive to phone, email, or text messages. He cheerfully returned after the job was more or less completed to do the items on our punch-out list, the small details that you inevitably notice once the dust settles. Our small powder room had a too-large and too-impractical pedestal sink, which we wanted to replace with a more practical vanity. Because of the room's small size, we knew we'd have to have a custom built vanity. We collaborated with Gus on this regarding the dimensions, the location of the sink, and the materials used, and Gus built us a little work of functional art. Did I mention that Gus is first and foremost a woodworker? This project could easily have been overwhelming, due to both its scope and the number of other trades involved, but because Gus, his helpers, and all the tradesmen that Gus recommended were so competent and delightful to work with, the experience was actually pleasant. Also of note is that even though Gus Presti is a "General Contractor", he doesn?t serve fully in the traditional role of a GC. In other words, all of the auxiliary tradesmen are not hired and paid by Gus, we paid them directly so no middleman was involved. That being said, there is outstanding communication between Gus, the electrician, and the plumber, so that everyone was on the same page when necessary. On many occassions, we commicated directly with those individuals when that was appropriate. Either way, it all worked out, and we are thrilled with the results and would highly recommend Gus Presti. Gus Presti is not the least expensive contractor out there, but you wouldn't expect rock bottom prices for five star work! The one minor drawback is that Gus hasn't started accepting credit card payments, so we were not able to get all of those sky miles on our Visa card. Otherwise we were extremely pleased, not only with the work he did, but with the rapport that we established with him, which made it much less stressful and much more calm than it might have been otherwise. We have a few other substantial projects ahead of us, and we definitely plan on having Gus do those for us, as well! Many thanks, Gus!!
Description of Work: We hired Gus Presti to do a major renovation on our newly purchased 1924 bungalow, including the kitchen/family room, powder room, upstairs bathroom, and basement, after seeing the work he was doing on a neighbor's house. When we finally decided on a kitchen design, Gus and a small crew of 1-2 guys began demolition on the kitchen. We also met with a plumber, electrician, and HVAC person, with whom Gus frequently works, so that everything could be planned simultaneously. Because this house had been previously renovated, many surprises were discovered in the process. This had to be addressed, mostly concerning lopsided drywall, and numerous electrical issues. On the main and second floors, Gus installed the cabinets we purchased from Lowe's, removed a load bearing wall, and, working with the HVAC person, unobtrusively incorporated the new ductwork inside the heavy duty brace, which is now used to shore up the transferred load bearing weight, replaced some hardwood planks in the kitchen/family room, moved the location of the outside door, installed ceramic tile backsplash in the kitchen and powder room, installed a bay window and other windows in the kitchen, created a large bay window and window seat in the dining room, and custom built a wood vanity for our very small powder room. In the basement, he replaced much of the drywall with pine beadboard, into which he installed vents camouflaged in the chair rail, to help resolve a moisture problem we were having, removed an unsightly and ill-placed load bearing pole jack and, again, with the HVAC folks, custom fit ductwork within the brace now holding the load, and he custom built the storage closet.

Mr. Presti and his helper were very professional. After each task, they cleaned up any mess that was made. I have other work that I need him to do in the future. Mr. Presti's fees were very reasonable and the quality of the work was exceptional.

I cannot find words to give high enough praise to this artisan. Work habits are superior: punctual, responsible, responsive, professional, profoundly courteous. He was always on time and left the place clean and in order after a day's work. It took two weeks for off-site work (he kept us apprised of progress) and another two weeks installation in our place (the entire month of December as he had indicated in his estimate). And what do we have? Good furniture grade units- solid, well-built, sturdy woodwork. PLUS the design of a craftsman with creativity and extraordinary attention to detail. The crown modling does not simply extend across the top but encircles the columns between units in a particularly attractive design. We find ourselves just sitting and staring at his work! We expected a place to store our many books and got a work of art. His price seemed a bit high to us but we now realize the value. If you hire Gus, you will not be disapppointed.
Description of Work: We wanted an entertainment center + bookcases + storage cabinets built along the wall of our condominium living room. Gus arrived promptly and walked us through, listening to what we wanted and how he envisioned making it fit the space. He provided us with an estimate and a drawing of the specifications. The estimate outlined the types of wood. We also had electrical and cable outlets which we wanted cut out for access. I note these because while we expected cut-outs in place, Gus brought in an electrician to move both outlets under the entertainment cabinet- a happy and unexpected solution to threading wires. He built the basic structure in his shop and then delivered it for assembly on site. Painting and hardware was done here.

After purchasing my new home, I wanted to take advantage of the space under my stairs to create a cat littlerbox drawer. I knew this was going to be both an unusual and custom job, so I called several woodworkers on Angie's List to begin getting quotes. Mr. Presti was one of only a few firms who called me back. After talking through the project at a high level, he came to see the space in person. I showed him the websites I had pulled ideas from and he really seemed to "get" the project and what I was trying to accomplish. The other contractors seemed to grasp my goal from a technical perspective, but Mr. Presti also seemed to understand the quality of life goal. Mr. Presti did not provide the cheapest quote I received, but he did give me some options to reduce the price. Still, based on working with him on the initial estimate, I felt he would do the best job. It took a few weeks to get on his schedule, but he and his assistant arrived the morning the work was to begin, as scheduled. The job was scheduled to take 2 days and they worked the majority of those two days, finishing on time as promised. They were quiet, respectful and cleaned up after themselves. As questions came up, he worked with me to make sure we were all on the same page. At the end of the project, I was left with a really great cat drawer. It's fully trimmed and painted to match nicely with the rest of the area and all wood has been sealed from moisture. The drawer slide itself is a little rough, but it's a heavy duty drawer as it needs to move 15+ lbs of litter and accessories. Overall, I'm very happy with how the project turned out - I think it looks great and people are always impressed with the use of space and how nicely it blends in when closed. There are a few adjustments that could be made and I plan to work with Mr. Presti to get those addressed soon. I would certainly work with Mr. Presti again for any custom woodworking projects - He is a craftsman who has a vision in mind. He's not only great technically, but he really tries to understand your vision for the space to make sure all of your goals are accomplished. He also is a full service provider - While his price was a bit higher than other quotes, I believe his service was more encompassing than others. There was NOTHING I had to do after the fact; other than waiting for the paint to dry, everything was ready to go when Mr. Presti was finished. The entire project was a pleasure and I would recommend him highly to anyone else looking for custom woodworking.

I hired Mr. Presti to do some improvements on the basement of my home. Specifically, the work involved installing ceramic tile and moldings on the basement floor, redoing the hardwood stairs leading to my basement , and replacing several doors around the house. Mr. Presti earned this job based on a previous positive experience I had with him on a smaller job (replacing a microwave) and the competitive bid he offered for the job. Once again, my experience with Mr. Presti was very positive. He gave accurate dates for both starting and finishing the project. I gave him a rough idea of what I wanted the stairs to look like and asked him to come up with the design, and I was very pleased with his concept and implementation. His skills and experience with wood are particularly remarkable. Mr. Presti was also very accommodating to my suggestions and last-minute requests. I find Gustavo very professional, responsive, and trustworthy and felt very comfortable working with him and his assistant. I was able to go to work every day while he was working on my house, and always found everything in order when I came home. I will hire Mr. Presti again in the future.

Excellent. Gus is extremely professional and warm. Our house is 125 years old and always contains surprises when work needs to done. Gus was able to work with the schedule of the tenants that currently reside their. The communicated to me there were very comfortable while he worked in the house, that he was professional, accommodated their schedules and dog, and left the sight clean. The new door looks great. Very sound work, he was able to reuse the historic molding. The door and frame will definitely last another 125 years. You pay for what you get: no headaches, shows up on time, accommodating, personable, professional, excellent craftsmanship, goes the extra mile.

I found Gus' contact on Angie's list and he proved to be very customer oriented from the get go. He was helpful on the phone, timely in showing up the first time, timely in sending the quote and in following up. The result of his (and his team's) work was definitely satisfactory, especially considering that installing the shutters proved to be much more challenging than expected due to a problem with hinges. He has a "can do" attitude which always helps and, in this particular case, saved me good money. Great job guys, I would definitely recommend you!

Mr. Presti came to my house to scope the job, reviewed the installation instructions (attention to detail), and explained how he would do the job. He also looked for ways to save me money, and in the end gave me the lowest quotation I received. On the day the service was performed, Mr. Presti and his partner showed up right on time, worked diligently and quickly, and cleaned up after completing the work. Gus is skilled, precise and excellent at what he does. He was very easy to have in the house. His communication skills are excellent. After many bad experiences with other jobs it was a delight to have someone who would discuss and explain any issues that came up during the job. The biggest being whether to remove the radiator or not because we have unusual radiators which are recessed into the wall. Gus works in a very effiecnt manner and moved the job along as quickly as possible without rushing. If you desire he can also make a custom vanity himself.
Description of Work: We contracted Gus to repair our 1940's bathroom tile which he was willing to do. After a long serch for matching tile we decided to redo the tile which surrounded ~the lower 2/3's of the whole bathroom and the floor tile. Gus removed the tile which was backed by very heavy "mud"plus the window frame and the door frame. We had a plumber remove the toilet ,sink and radiator. The sub-contractors ( plumber and tiler) he hired were very professional in their work and did an excellent job. We purchased the tile and new sink.

I merely got an estimate from this company to redo my deck and replace my fence. Their estimate was SO OUTLANDISH ( I think they wanted $16,000 just for LABOR), that I laughed out loud. If you're rich, go for them; but we're doing the work ourselves instead. They DID get back to me fairly quickly with an estimate. I forget, but I may have had to contact them again to get that. Not certain. It was a few months ago.

Every time I use the basement stairs, I am thrilled with their beauty, detail and safety. He is very knowledgably about construction and how to do things to code and does it precisely. Gus is very friendly and will give you a lot of information. He always explains what and why is doing something. He does give you the information on the job upfront and sticks to it. Gus is punctual, conscientious, professional and leaves the work site cleaner then when he got there. He is not the cheapest or the most expensive person you will go to, but he is certainly the best and you get more than your money's worth. Overall, Gus is a joy to work with.
Description of Work: He did home remodeling, carpentry and interior and exterior repairs. More specifically he fixed our wooden gate on our fence, cut a couple of doors to fit oddly shaped door ways, and replaced our basement steps with custom made, beautiful wooden steps.
