Robert Pence Remodeling LLC

We solicited three bids from high-ranking companies on Angie's List. Robert Pence's proposal was the lowest, even including replacing the shingles on our shed (his great idea). He made a straight-forward pitch without any gimmicks. Robert also offered us with a 6-month 0% interest payment plan. The crew was responsive to my questions and requests during the actual installation. After the job was complete, we noticed that the crew had knocked some of the siding loose on the house. Within 24 hours Robert was back to reattach the siding properly.

He came over and fixed the leak. I called him back a year later because I had birds coming in and he fixed it. I haven’t seen any birds in the house since! It was great!

Robert Pence was very responsive to our email/call for an estimate. We had a leaky roof and severely deteriorated wood decking. We needed them both replaced asap since it was December. He was actually on vacation when we contacted him so he sent Allan the next day to give us the estimate. Allan was professional and courteous and answered all my questions. After getting a detailed estimate that was not the cheapest but a very good price (we had four other companies that gave us estimates), we went with them based on our contact with Robert, Allan, and with the previous Angie's List reviews. We were not disappointed. The crew arrived right on time every day as promised. They were efficient and courteous. Robert and Allan were present for a good part of each day. The job took a little over two days to complete. Robert advised us on some issues we were having with the decking and insulation. He also gave us advice on installing a bathroom fan. He took the time to listen to our concerns and address them or advise us as appropriate. The clean up was thorough and the roof looks fantastic! It was a pleasure dealing with Robert , Allan, and his crew.

So far it's good. They aren't finished yet, but they are working on it.

The job went very well. It is a pleasure to work with Mr. Pence. He is direct and explains everything. He explains what is going to be done and it gets done. There are no surprises. The crew was at the house for a few days. They came early in the morning and worked through the late afternoon. After each day of work they cleaned up the debris. The job required a lot of hammering and nailing, but after a while the noise stopped. Then we got to look at the new exterior of the house. It looks great.

I got 4 estimates for replacing my roof from companies that were highly recommended by Consumer Checkbook. All of the roofers would have used the same products. Robert Pence returned my calls quickly, had a competitive price and said he would be able to replace my roof the same week. He also had lots of great reviews here on Angie's List. I signed the contract on Saturday, on Wednesday the shingles were delivered, and my roof was replaced on Thursday. The installers worked hard so they could complete everything in one day and cleaned up well. I wish all companies were so easy to work with - Robert Pence Remodeling replaced my roof quickly and it looks beautiful! (Since we have not had any big storms, I can't be sure as to its performance yet.)

We are very pleased with the work that Robert Pence did for us. My husband was concerned about the state of our gutters, and I was concerned about whether or not our roof needed to be replaced. We are also aware that in the future at some point, we'd like to replace the siding on our house, as well as the windows. Due to his really good ratings on Angie's list, we contacted Robert via email on November 25 to ask him to give us an estimates covering various combinations of work (gutters only, roof only, gutters and siding, etc.) Robert came out right away and gave us estimates for replacing the siding, gutters, and roof. We thought the prices that he asked were fair, and we appreciated that he gave us his opinion that we can wait several years on the siding, but that the roof and the gutters needed more immediate attention. That confirmed our own take on the situation, and on November 28 we signed a contract with him to replace the gutters and the roof. Robert told us that he had some jobs that were in line before ours. Nevertheless, the shingles for our roof were delivered Friday, Robert's crew completely replaced our roof on Saturday, and today (Monday) they replaced our gutters. They also removed an old television antenna from the roof. I'm sure there was considerable debris, but we never saw any of it: it all got cleaned up and hauled away. Based on our experience, we would highly recommend Robert to anyone who wants a new roof or gutters. We wouldn't hesitate to use him again, and we'll very likely call him when we're ready to replace windows and siding.

I called a handyman roof repairer and he repaired my roof for $270. We had a heavy rain and I inspected it for leaks and could not find any. I however phoned Robert to thank him and asked him for an estimate. He gave me an over the phone estimate of $4700 which I would have spent had he told me to replace the roof. Thanks to Robert and his honesty I saved about $4,450. I know I will have to spend that money one day but it is not now which is big relief.

Mr. Pence was personable and up front with all costs and materials. He too the time to explain all the options and their costs with the pros and cons related to the choices. The supplies and workers showed up precisely on schedule and completed the work in a timely manner, including hauling away the trash and cleaning up afterward. This even included a magnetic sweep of the property for metal refuse after the completed work. The gutters were contracted to another company who completed their work in a similar, professional and timely manner.

His crew did an excellent job, and we're very happy with the results. His price was competitive with the other proposals we received, and he provided an email address and responded promptly to a few questions I had. He clearly takes great pride in his work, and he works hard to ensure customer satisfaction. I definitely would recommend using this company.

Estimate was very competitive with others requested. They did not try to upsell me. They were willing to tell me when they thought I was making a mistake in my decisions and were very reasonable with changes. They started on time and finished a little behind schedule, but that was due to issues with receiving the siding on time and my attempt to accelerate the start of the job. The final job was completed with no lingering issues and the house looks great. Throughout the job I was pleasantly surprised by the desire of each work crew to get the done to my liking.

They had four men do the job. They did a very good job. They were neat, clean, and professional. The owner sent us a hand written thank you card for doing business with him. Everyone was very polite. We had heat reduction shingles put on in which we received a tax break. They did all the paper work for us.

I asked three top Angie's List roofers to prepare bids. One did not return my call in a timely fashion. The other two were both great, and Mr. Pence had the lower price by several hundred dollars. He examined my roof thoroughly and listened carefully to my concerns. I never felt pressured to make a decision before I was ready, and he did not suggest anything extra. He explained exactly what he was going to do and all of the materials he would use. He told me who the crew chief would be, when the materials would arrive, and and when the crew would arrive. Mr. Pence has his own crews; he does not subcontract roofing. When the crew arrived, Mr. Pence was with them. He stopped by during the roofing, which took a day, and afterwards, to make sure I was satisfied. In addition, he stopped by a few days later. The roof is beautiful and made it through a hurricane which hit us a few days later with no problems. A few weeks later, I noticed a continuing leak around the chimney, a problem I have had for over a year before the re-roofing job. I talked to one mason and another came out and inspected the chimney as a possible source of the problem. Both said that it was not the chimney, which I believe because that judgment cost them a nice job. I contacted Mr. Pence, who had his crew chief come out the next day to reinstall some bad decking they had missed (abutting the chimney), reinstall those shingles, and reseal the flashing. I offered to pay for the decking materials, which are charged separately, since they were not replacing materials from the original re-roof, but Mr. Pence refused to let me. He said that if there is any problem in the future, please call immediately. I was so impressed with Mr. Pence and his work that I talked to him about two related jobs that I am considering, and recommended him to a neighbor.

Robert came to the house to give us an estimate the same week. Unlike other some providers, he didn't use pressure sales tactics (e.g., offer a discounted price if we signed on the spot). His price was the lowest of the 3 companies we called for quotes and about $1,000 less than the next lowest company. He came back to the house again so we could pick out colors for the siding, trim and shutters and made recommendations (e.g., using a lighter color trim) to make the house look better. After this was done, his crew came out the next week and completed siding in 2.5 days and the gutters in another day - the crew worked from 7 AM to about 7 PM. Robert was extremely responsive throughout the whole process and made a couple small modifications per our request. Overall, we are extremely pleased - the house looks great - and we would recommend Robert to anyone else.

We had an excellent experience. Robert was recommended to us by our neighbor. He was very prompt to respond to my request for an estimate. He came out to the house and gave me an estimate and explained why he recommended certain products. The next day he dropped off sample shingles so I could get a better idea of the color and texture. I thought it all looked good, so signed the contract. We set a date, but there was a delay because of all the rain that week. Robert kept in contact with me about the delay and the rescheduled appointments, so I knew what to expect. His crew showed up on time, they were very pleasant, worked efficiently and got the whole job done in one day. They cleaned up the area very well. Robert came by the next day to follow up on the job, and also did a second cleaning, using a magnet to make sure all the nails were picked up. We are very pleased with the result. It looks great!

Mr. Pence came prompty to give an estimate on 4/27/11. I had one other company provide an estimate, and theirs was $500 less. I decided on Mr. Pence, however, as he had given me more specifics about what he would be doing and the materials he'd be using, as well as due to the great reviews on Angie's List. He dropped off his supplies within a few hours of being told I was going with him, and the next day his crew came out at 8am and were done by 12:30pm. They did a very nice job and cleaned up well. I was also able to use a 5% off coupon, dropping the price from the estimate of $1980 down to $1881.

Robert answered the phone and informed me that they don't DO roof repair (which they clearly do, since others here have reviewed them for just such a task). I asked if he could rccommend someone who does and he said I should try to find someone who is not busy. I guess he is too busy for new jobs. VERY RUDE!

I called Robert Pence in the morning -- he was going to be in the area, and came out that afternoon and wrote up an estimate. After about a day of email exchanges (getting details of the skylight company, and the shingle warranty) , I signed the contract and mailed it and a deposit. That was on a Saturday , and the work was done the following Thursday. Much quicker than I expected. I went with this company based on the numerous and excellent Angie's list reviews, and from the impressions I got from talking to Robert. He is very proud of his company's reputation, and I was sure that he would make sure that I was satisfied with the work. And I thought that his workers did an excellent job, finishing the work in one day. Robert came in the morning with them, and came again just as they were finishing up. They did a good job cleaning up: sweeping, raking, blowing, and using magnets to make sure there was no stray nails Robert came back the next morning to check on the work again, and run the magnet one more time around the house. My neighbors are now all interested, and are getting estimates from him, even though they aren't currently members of Angie's list.

The materials were delivered on a Monday, work started the next day and by Thursday afternoon the house was completely done. The workmen were professional, efficient and polite; they cleaned up everyday--no stray nails on the driveway! Robert Pence was very easy to work with and suggested changing the placement of one of the gutters to prevent an overflow problem we had had for years. We changed the color of the siding which drew attention from our neighbors and all the reviews have been extremely positive. We are delighted with the new look and look forward to minimal upkeep. We would definitely recommend Robert to friends and neighbors.

Mr. Pense gave an excellent overview of the types of roof materials from which to choose. I appreciated his straight-forward presentation (as opposed to other companies that would take up to 2 hours to talk about roofs). The estimate for the roof was clear and very reasonable. His crew arrived on the day agreed upon and completed the roofing job in one day. This was particularly important given that snow was forcast for the folowing day (and stayed around for awhile after that). The gutters were installed the next morning before the snow began. The roof is beautiful and the workmanship excellent. We are very pleased and would highly recommend this company to anyone.

Robert promptly replied my initial call. His estimate was clear and right on. His crew arrived on time and worked really efficiently. The site was cleaned thoroughly after the job was finished which is impressive after removing about 15.000 nails. Robert even came back with a metal detector to make sure nothing is left behind. The roof looks lovely.

Robert Pence is extremely professional and efficient. On the day of the job, he and his crew arrived at the exact time he promised. They did everything exactly as they promised they would. There were no surprises of any kind. His team worked quickly and efficiently as if choreographed in an elaborate stage production. I have nothing but good things to say about Robert Pence and his extremely professional and efficient operation. In addition, he is a really nice guy and a pleasure to deal with.

I discovered that a previous leak (from 11 years earlier) had started leaking again. After researching several companies, I called Robert Pence, who came over to my house within the hour (!!). He made a couple of fixes to the roof and that was that. Which was wonderful, because the next couple of days it snowed, so the leak would have caused further damage. He was very professional, and I will most probably use him again.

Robert Pence Remodeling was recommended by a friend whose roof they repaired; his company had done work for several of her neighbors. Mr. Pence returned our call promptly and provided an estimate the same day. Compared to another home improvement company we used for window and door replacements, there was no hard sell, no "special offers" for signing on the spot, no long, drawn out calculations. The work was begun promptly and finished on time. When rain was predicted for the following afternoon, the crew worked from 7 am until 6 pm to ensure the job would not be delayed by the weather. Guttering was installed 2 days later as scheduled. THE HOUSE: We couldn't be more pleased. The house looks great, practically new. Everything about this job was professional: the quality materials, the workmanship, and the people. All the old siding and guttering was promptly removed, and our yard was clean and tidy: There were no little nails or bits of materials left in the lawn and flower beds. Mr Pence monitored the work and did a careful final inspection. He is friendly, courteous, and goes out of his way to ensure customer satisfaction.

Alan Brown worked with me on an estimate. He was very professional and informative, and turned around the quote quickly. Unfortunately their estimate for my job was 60% more than two other estimates from other companies, so I went with one of the other bids. But my experience with Robert Pence Remodeling was overall very positive and I would recommend them to anyone.
