I discovered that an old antenna on my roof had been knocked over in a storm, leaving a significant hole in the roof. The roof was old and needed to be replaced, and since another storm was coming, it had to be done quickly. Mr. Pence responded to my call promptly, provided samples consistent with my townhome association's approved colors (which he knew as soon as I told him where I was located), assisted with recommendations on color and durability, and helped my write my application for approval by the association. The day after approval, he and his crew arrived and replace the entire roof in one day. They also cleaned up all of the mess that, understandably, resulted. The roof has done beautifully even in the summer and this winter of hard rains and heavy snow, and it looks great.

Called back within two hours of a message. On hearing that the job was small, reccomended a company closer to me. Get's an A+ for fast call back, honesty and a referal to someone he knows and trusts.

Robert Pence coordinated all aspects of the installation. Each installation was performed by different teams of men. Once we okayed the work to be done, the project started within a few days and was completed within 2 weeks. We are very pleased with all aspects of the installation. Mr. Pence runs a first rate remodeling business. Everyone on the job was personable and friendly, knew their job and worked diligently.

The job they did looks great and even our neighbors have asked about who replaced our windows. The job was done very professional and we couldn't be more pleased with the new windows.

Mr. Pence was quick to respond. There had been much interior wall damage as a result of the leak. He gave an estimate and was able to return in 2 days to repair the roof. The work was quick, the place was left neat. He said he couldn't exactly get the shingle color because the color was not available any more, went to 3 stores, and got the color that most matched. I cannot tell the difference in the new and old shingle color. I was extremely pleased with the professionalism, quickness, work, and neatness.

I will echo several of the other reviews where i left a phone message on like 10 different places and then i got this phone call while i was at work saying "this is robert pence, i will be at your house in 10 minutes" i had no idea who he was or what he was talking about but after some initial confusion he said he would give me an estimate and leave it under the mat, which he did. i told him i didnt want him to call me and do everything over email, which he was glad to do. he emailed me the contract and i emailed it back to him. the roof they did a great job on. they did the trim work next and the first day everything they did was really nice looking and much better tahn i expected. then they lost a couple days to rain though and when they came back they were obviously rushed and the quality of the work slipped a little (the corners did not line up as well and several joints were not caulked). still, the price was much cheaper than the other quotes and he was extremely easy to deal with and overall the quality is very good.

Robert has a very professional and hard working crew who nearly completed the job in one day. Since this was late fall the early sun set reduced the amount of time to work. We had a terrible time with noise and cold air. We live backing up to a major state road and experience noise from commuter traffic in the morning and major public transportation of buses all day. The Simonton windows are a superior product. It significantly reduced noise and they are very nice to use. Both top and bottom sash of these double hung windows open and both can be cleaned from inside with an uncomplicated procedure to tilt the windows in. Robert was back to us within a day when we called initially and provided clear expectations for what we could expect including a spot on schedule for when the windows would be ready for installation and when the crew would be here to work. The crew completed the work and cleaned up debris and other materials. We thought we would pay closer to a range of between $15,000 and $20,000 but were surprised with a final price of approximately $12,000. I used Robert Pence for a new roof, sky light, roof fan, siding and sliding patio door in 2002 and was very pleased with the materials and workmanship as described for the windows. I wouldn't hesitate to use them for additional work on the house.

I just recently joined Angie's list and called Robert Pence to get an estimate. Although the company indicates servicing Prince Georges County, Mr. Pence said "that's a bit too far for us." I totally understand that his company is in Olney and it is quite a distance. And, there are hundreds of companies that offer this service and I subsequently located 3 to get estimates. I have just one recommendation, perhaps it would be beneficial for ALL to remove Prince Georges County as the area the company services. Thanks!

Robert's crew removed the old roof and installed the new roof in one day. They removed all the debris and cleaned up carefully when they were done. They used a wide magnet to sweep the ground for nails. The next day, Robert came back and again used the magnet to collect missed nails. Since two layers of shingles were removed, lots of nails were removed and more used on the new roof. Even with all the cleanup, we found some nails on the ground afterwords. I doubt if it is possible for any crew to find every loose nail. Although the price was higher than we had hoped for, it was lower than our other estimate. Plus we now have a 50 year roof, a $1500 tax credit, a reflective surface that should reduce heat absorption and reduce A/C costs and hopefully have done something to help the environment with the reflective shingles. And we don't expect any problems with ice damming that we had last winter. We are very pleased with Robert Pence's work.

I called to see about getting an estimate for some repairs that we needed done. Robert said that they are only doing full jobs, not repairs because they're so busy.

Robert Pence's company was one of three I called for an estimate. He came out, looked over the house, made some suggestions, and gave us his estimate. His price was not the lowest, but we thought it was fair. What sold us was his enthusiasm and desire to please us with his company's work. We set a start date, and his gutter crew arrived on time. They went about their work, taking out the old gutters and replacing them with new ones. The fact that we had Gutterguards was not a problem. Over the next few days the siding crew was not able to start because of weather, and Robert called often to let us know what they planned to do. Before the crew started, Robert let me know when the supplies would be delivered, and they were. The siding installation crew arrived and began work about 7 AM, and quit about 6 PM. They continued working through the weekend because the weather was good. They finished on Sunday and were very thorough about cleaning up the yard. We checked the work, and found a very minor problem. Within an hour of letting Robert know about this problem, he scheduled a person to correct it in the next two days. He has been very responsive when we have questions, and in getting this minor problem repaired. I highly recommend Robert Pence Remodeling for siding and gutter work. I certainly would call his company again for other work.

Overall results are excellent. Prompt with estimate; winning recommendation re color and style of new shingle; on-time with work completion as promised; industrious crew; final product looks great!

The estimate was prompt, professional and very competitive with other bids. We replaced some wood trim and fascia boards with PVC board to ensure lower maintenance and better weathering. Robert and his crew were timely, professional in completing the work as agreed and did a very thorough clean up. Very Highly recommended.

I called Robert Pence to get a quote. He happened to be on vacation but still took my call and asked me to call the office and leave a detailed voice message so he could get back to me when he came back from vacation. He did call back and set up a time when he could come out and give me a quote. He arrived about 15 min ahead of time, took measurements etc outside and then came in for a couple minutes. He seemed to be in a hurry. Given that he had just got back from vacation he must have been catching up, which was not a big deal. He did leave a complete quote. He just was not able to spend time going over the quote in detail with me. In the end there were 4 things that went against him when I made my decision: (i) The price was about 20% more than the other company that I had liked and was contemplating assigning the work to (ii) Robert Pence needed approx 30% down before the work and they added 2% to the job if we paid by credit card. The company that I went with did not need an advance, and did not add anything for a credit card payment. (iii) The labor warranty was about 1/3 what we got from the company that we decided to go with (iv) Robert Pence indicated that due to the gulf oil crisis, the price of petroleum products was going up and if we took too long to decide, the price of the shingles might go up Overall though I was not completely dissapointed with Robert Pence. They did make the effort, came out on time and gave us an estimate and were professional about it. It just so happened that in this case we were able to find someone else that gave us a better overall deal. If I had to recommend a contractor to someone else for similar work I would probably recommend Robert Pence at least to get a quote. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are my comments based on Robert Pence's response ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's get some things straight here. Robert Pence runs a business. He was not doing me any favors by coming out to give me an estimate. He was trying to secure business. Besides, if he had really read my feedback, he would have seen that I had given him an A for responsiveness and punctuality. If Columbia is too far, all he had to do was say so and I would have called someone else. As for the price, again, if he took the time to read my detailed report he would know that I did not think price was everything. Further, if he forgot to mention about 0% financing and forgot to tell us that the down payment was negotiable, that is not our fault. Finally, inspite of not choosing him ourselves, I had still said in my report that we would recommend him to others at least for a quote! Quite frankly, I fail to understand what he is so upset about! Seems to me he is just looking for a scapegoat so he can stop operating in Columbia or Howard County! Due to his response I am downgrading his Professionalism rating from a B to a D.

The roof on our older home was in dire need of replacement. Mr. Pence came out for an estimate immediately. His price was competitive. While we had lower quotes, his description of work to be performed was very detailed. When we inquired with competitors about specific materials they were not the same grade and accounted for most of the cost discrepancy. After selecting Mr. Pence he came to our home after hours (8 P.M.) to accommodate my work schedule and allowed us to pick the exact colors and type of material. He was knowledgeable about materials that would qualify for tax credits. He was also very flexible with payment terms. The workmen who came, Luis and crew, were very skilled and friendly. They did not object to my periodic assessment and worked very quickly, finishing the tear off, repair and new roofing in about 6-7 hrs. They did a good job cleaning up and ran a magnet over the entire area to remove nails. We received a warranty on the installation as well. We have had no leaks and are satisfied with the work.

Mr. Pence arrived promptly, explained and addressed problems with previous replacement of the other half of the roof by another company. We thought the gutters would have to be replaced but he said they were in good condition and just needed to be adjusted. One of his workmen said that he like working for Mr. Pence because he told them exactly what to do. Despite an unusually severe winter we have not had any problems with the roof. Mr. Pence seemed more straightforward than other estimators and we had an altogether good experience.

Robert Pence and his crew were always on time. Kept us informd about their schedule. Started work almost immediately and completed a 2 story colonial in two days. They cleaned up everthing - no clean up necessry for us. Very reliable. Highly recommend.

Robert Pence came to give us an estimate within 18 hours of calling his office. He came prepared with brochures and info for all of the materials that he planned to use for our installation (shingles, ridge vent, tar paper material, gutter edging, etc) and prepared a complete proposal on the spot. His price was very competitive, and, when I mentioned that I had reviewed his page on AngiesList, took off 5% from the total job. He explained the energy tax credit available for these shingles and the documentation he would give us so that we could file for it. He was in constant touch by phone to coordinate the date that materials would be dropped off (which was within days of his proposal), and scheduled the installation for the day after drop-off, weather permitting. We changed our minds at the last minute, asking for a ridge vent instead of the attic fan that he had his supplier drop off. Robert was very gracious about the change, and showed up at the installation with the new materials that he needed (we had taken in the attic fan in its box into our house to protect it from the rain so that he could return it). The crew came early and worked continuously till the job was done (7:45am to 6:30pm). Robert was on the job several times throughout the day. Robert, the job foreman and crew were totally responsive, willing to explain what they were doing and why. They worked seamlessly with each other and had apparently been working together as a professional team for a long time. Excellent work and careful cleanup. Robert even came the day after to do another sweep of the yard with his magnet. Pleasant and trustworthy crew.
