Evergreen Fence & Deck

Mark Dillon from Evergreen came out for our estimate. He was professional and personable. He brought samples and offered ideas for design. His price was within the range of others we received. We went with another contractor because for the same estimate, they also included the required licenses and all the electrical, including a new electrical circuit for the new addition and a fan on the porch. Our not selecting Evergreen is in no way an indication that we do not think they would do an excellent job.

They were superb, efficient, on time, and did a great job. We are absolutely thrilled with our new screened porch and deck. I worked with Mark Dillon for almost six months prior to starting the project. He was very patient and helpful with the deck design and defining the details of the project. Every detail was accounted for. I engaged 3 other contractors from Angie's List and Mark was the standout in so many ways. His pricing was also very competitive. We highly recommend Mark Dillon and Evergreen Fence and Deck.

They worked quite rapidly! One day the posts and rails were in, the next the boards were in and the fence completed. I was very pleased with the work and they were responsive to our requests. Our kids and dogs love the new enclosed space. Highly recommended and I would use them again in the future.

I'm very pleased with the quality of both the carpentry work and the staining. Mark was pleasant and professional, and he worked with me and the insurance company to price the job in the way they required. It was a challenge to get the deck staining completed because we were pushing into late fall and many days were too cold for the work. But they were great about communicating during this phase of the work, and whenever the temp pushed above 50, they were there. I believe it was the contractor's son who did most of the staining work. He looks like he's not out of his teens, and I confess when I first saw him my heart sank and I thought the job might be substandard. But he worked very hard and very well, and I was very pleased with the results. He would occasionally ask access to use the bathroom, which other contractors I've used have not done, but I didn't really mind (and, okay, I kind of wish MY son would work that hard...). The supervisor for the deck work was great, checked in with me often. He wanted interim payments as the work progressed, which surprised me a little, but again I didn't mind this. Times are tough. I guess the only ding is that in the early scheduling it sometimes took a little while to get a call back or returned email, but the pricing was very competitive and their finished work looks great. I'd use this company again in a heartbeat.

The work was done promptly, professionally, and the result was fabulous. The crew was very polite, they cleaned the site each day, and were very pleasant to deal with. They readily accommodated a couple of changes we requested while making sure we knew those differed from the way the previous fence had been. That indicated to us that they were very attuned to the project. They were great to deal with and I would highly recommend them.

I contacted Evergreen to replace two relatively small sections of fencing and to fix and refinish my large deck and pergola. Mark provided an excellent suggestion on how to replace the fence and the work was done quickly and professionally. He was true to his word and came back at a later date to fix a few small things that he had noticed in the original installation. Totally painless for me. Steve did the work on the deck, which was a major undertaking because of poor maintenance and lots of word work on the original. This was a giant undertaking and I am very pleased with the outcome. Steve give new life to the severely ailing deck and it looks great. He replaced boards, cleaned, scraped and sanded and painted everything until it looked better than ever. Great work and a pleasure to work with.

Mark of Evergreen was very helpful in helping to make the deck plans affordable without sacrificing on appearance. His team also made a recommendation on a design change that maximized the space available and made for a better flow. We were pleased with the job they performed and would recommend them to others. If I have any complaint at all is that they didn't always leave the work site and neat as they could have. I also had to remind them to remove debris when the job was over but nothing major.

Both Mark and Steve of Evergreen were professional, well-organized, knowledgeable and considerate. They kept in touch as the project moved along, and we always felt informed. Their work was of high quality and we were pleased with the job. There were no surprises and no problems. As an aside, they were very mindful of our request that they try to avoid damaging the plantings under the deck -- they worked hard at doing this and were totally successful. We highly recommend them.

I was impressed with Mark because of the time that he took with me to describe what he could do, show me samples, talk me through options, and respond promptly with a competitive bid. I would definitely call him again if we needed additional work on a deck or fence.

I considered Evergreen due to their reviews on Angie's List. Overall, it was an awesome experience. He was punctual, on time and responsive. At this time we are still evaluating bids so I am uncertain if we will use them.

Evergreen came out to give an estimate when promised. The price seemed reasonable.After we signed and agreed on everything we forgot about the Angies list coupon, called him and it was no problem even though it was after we signed contract. There was a change of date to begin and they notified us in plenty of time but then they actually didn't call or show up on the new 1st of the 2 days planned. They did start on the second planned day and finished the job all in one day. All went well and the work was completed on time and as expected. It was a good experience working with Mark.

Evergreen gave very good advise on what repairs should be done for the best value. They were responsive and punctual, and did quality work. They also explained why the problem occurred in the first place (choice of wood, problems with the original construction) and made suggestions on how to reduce the problem in the future. I was very pleased with the results and wish I would have used them to design and build the porch and deck in the first place.

Overall the fence looks good, but I did have some issues with work as follows: it was not completed when promised and it took at least two weeks longer than expected to get someone on the job after the materials had arrived. Also, all of the fencing was not properly nailed down. I had to go out with a nail gun and secure at least 10 boards that had no nails. It looked like the installer was in a hurry as he simply missed these boards. To be fair, I didn't call them back to come out and fix any of the loose boards because it was easier for me to just do it myself and only took about 30 minutes to get it done. I'm sure they would have come out if I called, and Mark, the owner, was very professional when I hired him and apologized for the initial delay in getting the job done. However, given the issues above, I probably wouldn't use them again.

We moved into a new single family house in a new community last winter so wanted to get a deck built this summer. We called 6-7 different contractors for estimates and design ideas. Most of them were found from Angie's list including this Evergreen Fence & Deck. Mark Dillon was by far the best of all in his approach, professionalism, and being down-to-earth. Some of the contractors were such that we wonder why they even stay in the business. One guy spent a lot of time and did a lot of talking but never got back with estimates or anything. Another one came completely empty handed, just looked at the backyard, and then gave a ridiculously high cost estimate. With Mark, we immediately felt comfortable with him. He provided all the information in a very calm and professional manner with no strong pushes in any one direction. He brought all the samples of different kinds of materials in different colors on his very first visit. His price estimate was also reasonable - not cheap but not high either. He is just a very nice, decent, professional guy. Once the work started, his guys were friendly and professional although we were never home to watch them all day. Mark did not visit the site anytime when the work was going on but he was accessible by phone.Once they laid the base of the deck we felt that the deck looked too small (we have a nice size backyard) so wanted to change the design a little bit. Mark and his guys happily accomodated that change in plans without any additional costs. Our regret is still that the deck is smaller than what we would have liked in reality but that is not Mark's fault. For us, it is difficult to visualize the size of the deck just by measurements and every contractor that came recommended the size we got (18X20 feet). Anyway, overall, we were happy with the whole process, the work, and the product and are enjoying our new deck. We would certainly hire Evergreen Fence & Deck for any future fence or deck jobs.

Their prices were reasonable and it was great dealing with them. They were very professional and with their English speaking. They cared about the finished product and they did an excellent job. I have recommended them to others.

I've used Evergreen twice at two different properties and both times was very happy with the service and end result. On the 2005 job, Mark was exceptional in that he spent time to determine where the correct property lines were, rather than just following the lines of the existing chainlink fence. I should also add that he took a lot of time discussing materials and styles for the fence, and was not at all pushy in recommending any one product over another. I was 100% pleased with the company's responsiveness, neatness on the job site, promptness in getting the work completed, and quality. My fence has been up for five years and still looks awesome!

We got 5 estimates for our deck. Evergreen gave us the 2nd to lowest estimate and overall seemed like the best quality to cost ratio. Other companies may have worked more on details, but the incremental increase in price was not worth it to us, so we decided to go with Evergreen. The owner worked with us and was very friendly and knowledgeable. The completed work is great. The deck is very good quality and looks beautiful. There were two setbacks that I find evergreen only somewhat at fault for. The first was that the owner gave us an estimate for the start of work on the deck, but then called on the day that they were supposed to start and told me it would be delayed by 1 week. It did affect plans and I would have liked more notice. The second is that the day that work started, they realized that the original design would not work because of risk of hitting utility lines. The utility line markers were put down weeks in advance and a quick visit ahead of time to ensure the plan would work would have saved a lot of trouble. Also, I would expect that he would be able to pinpoint this as a possible problem during the initial estimate for work. Since the design had to change, a new permit had to be submitted, which cost an additional $125, which they passed onto me. In the end, I will say that the new design is even better than the original and worth every penny. I would use evergreen again, but I would try to be more aware of potential problems.

He was prompt and showed up on time but I decided to go in another direction.

The tear down and installation went very smoothly, the crew arrived early every morning which I prefer. The work was great and we have a gorgeous, large deck now. My only complaints were that they left the lumbar laying in the grass and by the time it was moved most of the grass underneath was dead. Also they finished late on the last day and said they would send someone later to clean up. It took about 4 days until someone came to clean up the debris and remove the remaining lumbar. Overall the price was much lower than many other quotes I received and I am happy with the work done.

Everything went smoothly from the beginning. Mark Dillon came to give me an estimate the same day I called. He was informative, straightforward, and easy-going. The work started the following week (as estimated), and took less time (2 days instead of 3-4) than estimated. Workers were friendly and helpful -- they worked about 10 hours the first day, I'm not sure how much time the second day. The new fence looks great. Minimal disruption for me and the neighbors. Completely satisfied.
