Steve Hash was thorough and knowledgeable throughout the process. From the initial quote, through waiting for proper temperature and the rain to stop, to doing the work, to coming back the next day for any touchup and to verify everything went well. I received 4 quotes before selecting Evergreen. Steve was the only one to really listen to me, discuss the job, and give me tips on what would work well, and what would not. Steve worked through the possible stain choices from oil to water based, and the color choice. He went out of his way to get the water based, semi-transparent, dark oak color stain we chose. He also correctly counseled that since this was new wood the color will appear lighter on the deck than on the samples. A 3 man crew arrived as scheduled, worked all day, did a beautiful job on the many railing posts, steps, posts and frame underneath, and the deck itself. It would not be possible to do a better job if I did it myself. I felt a new deck had to be done right the first time. I paid a bit more for Evergreen, but I got the near perfect job that I felt was necessary on a new deck. I am very glad I chose Evergreen.

The 20 year old deck, which had become unusable, was given several more years life. (Replacement would have cost at least 4 times as much.) It was a pleasure dealing with Steve Hash and his team. My only reservation is that the filled areas of some boards are more obvious than I'd like. But Evergreen made every effort to correct this when I asked.

Mark first arrived on time for our initial meeting to do the estimate. I had already received two previous bids from different companies and got a fourth bid after Mark gave me his bid. It turned out that Mark's bid was the lowest. To be fair, all four bids were within $400 of each other. The reason I went with Mark was twofold: based on other AL reviews and his presentation at my house. He was thorough and explained all potential issues with adding a new deck to a nearly 30 year old town home. His deck crew arrived on time and the deck was completed in about 3 days. The county building inspector approved the deck and had the crew put a few more nails into the top step of the staircase as it was not quite as strong as the others. Also, a few days after completion of the deck, I noticed that two large bolts that helped to secure the deck to the townhome were not screwed into the home. They were started, but not completely secured. It's kind of hard to explain, but the other 20 or so bolts were completely fastened and there was not even a remote chance that the deck was unstable. I called Mark and left a few messages. Someone was sent out to the house within a week or so to tighten those last two bolts. Mark did call to apologize and explained that he thought I was called earlier. Not a big concern. The only other issue was the clean up. Mark explained prior to the job that there would be bricks and dirt removed from our patio to make room for the new footings. The bricks would stay but the dirt would be taken away. The dirt took 3-4 days to remove. I would have preferred it to be removed as soon as the deck was finished, but his clean-up crew is different from his deck crew. Different crews. Different skill sets. I completely understand. After the deck was finished, my wife and I decided to add a gate at the top of the steps. Since Mark's deck crew was already completed with the deck, the cost of the gate ($250) was more than it would have been if we had asked Mark while the crew was still working on the deck. The crew had to make a special trip out just for the gate. No issue with that. My wife and I are thrilled with the deck and gate. That deck looks beautiful and is completely solid. I was surprised at how much the building codes have improved since the old deck was built 28 years ago. From the construction of the stairs, to the size of the footings/support beams was amazing. The issues I mentioned above are insignificant but I just wanted to document the whole job. If we ever decide to buy a new home and need a deck, we will definitely call Mark again to perform the job!

Steve from Evergreen was the greatest. He and his team power washed and sanded (with a commercial sander and with hand sanders) the deck, taking it almost down to bare wood. They then hand painted the deck with two coats of quality deck paint. It looks absolutely beautiful and was much cheaper than replacing the deck. I found Steve to be extremely prompt and reliable. He kept me posted on their progress regularly. I highly recommend Steve and his great team.

We were impressed by Mark from start to finish. Unlike the other contractors who provided estimates, Mark took the time to explain our options in terms of materials and show us samples. He was responsive to our questions and kept us informed about when the work would begin and how it was progressing. When we had some difficulty getting a site plan to obtain the building permit, he helped us find an alternative to get the permit. We are happy with the new deck and recommend Evergreen to anyone looking for a deck contractor.

They did a good job! I did have to call back a few times to get everything right, but it was worth it in the end! The owner was so polite!

There were no issues from start to finish. They were able to start right away. They were on time, very thorough and explained each step of the process. I wish we had before and after pictures to show. We are extremely pleased with the outcome.

We appreciated their professionalism and responsivenes. We didn't select the company to do our fence only due to price consideration (not huge difference but we just got lucky that another good company provided us more competitive price) , but we would recommend Evergreen Fence & Deck to anyone. As matter of fact, we plans to use their service for our deck project in the Spring of next year.

The owner Mark Dillon came out to discuss my job with me, gave me several options and then sent me a quote. I did nothing for a few months and when I called, Mark honored the "old" quote. When I sent the deposit, they scheduled the work within the agreed time frame and finished the work in 2 days, as agreed. Very nice job, and they left the area clean; no bits of stray wire, etc. I have a new driveway, and they were very careful working alongside, to do no damage. I am pleased and will use them again when the fence on the other side of the yard needs to be replaced.

On time, on spec, and on the money. Mark showed up on the appointed date, assessed the situation, made several relevant observations, and crafted a contract that met or exceeded existing specifications as well as satisfied our requirements. It's rare that contractors show up on time, even rarer that they complete the task on time: in this case, however, we were pleasantly surprised as the actual work began to the minute on the appointed date and was completed a half a day early. The actual workers were professional, answered any questions that we had, and were extremely efficient. In sum: we were very pleased with the overall experience. We would recommend this company to anyone needing first-class restoration done on their deck or fence.

Excellent! I couldn't be more pleased with this company. The deck looks fantastic and they did a very good job on cleanup. The speed of which they took down old deck and put up new deck was astonishing. The company even took care of all the necessary permits and worked through some atrocious weather (100+ temps)

Evergreen was nice to work with and offered some excellent ideas on how to maximize our space and project. In the end we went with another vendor but have no doubts about Evergreen's quality and professionalism. I would gladly have them come and bid on future projects.

I met Mark Dillon when he came to my house for an estimate. He was punctual, friendly and offered some thoughts on what he thought would work in our backyard. He was also able to instruct us on the process of getting permits through Montgomery County and their requirements (like having an electrical outlet installed in the perimeter of the deck, etc.) . His estimate arrived in the time frame promised. The cost was quite a bit more (for reference, the other estimate came in about $850 less for the same work) and we originally made the decision to go with the cheaper quote. That company - who shall remain nameless - became incredibly difficult to get in touch with just to get a signed contract, so I called Mark and asked if he would still be interested iin the job. He was, and we set up a time within a day to sign the contract. The job was started in 10 business days, and finished in 2 more. Every step of the process with Evergreen was painless. Mark is very responsive to calls, and kept me up to date on the progress of the permitting insepctions. He came out to the job site once during the construction process and again after the job was completed. His crew was very friendly, cleaned up after themselves and would knock on my door at the end of the day to let me know they were leaving and when they'd be back. And the work speaks for itself. Numerous neighbors have come over to see our deck and commented on how nice it looked. You get what you pay for, and paying the extra money to go with Evergreen was worth it. I wish we hadn't been so concerned with the cost and just gone with them in the first place. We wasted a good week or more dealing with someone else that could have been spent enjoying our new gorgeous deck! We will absolutely recommend Mark and Evergreen to others and use them again should the need arise.

Our 30 year old split rail fence was no longer doing it's job of keeping our dogs in our yard, so we called Mark Dillon at Evergreen for an estimate. He responded very quickly, came out and discussed our options (partial or full replacement) and offered an estimate. I had two other fence companies look at the job, and Evergreen was by far the most professional - offering specific advice, a firm estimate, and a timeframe for job completion. Mark was sensitive to the fact that we needed the fence replaced as soon as possible -and work began the week following our initial meeting. The work team was fast and professional - cleaning up after the end of each day's (3 total) work. They were kind enough to work on our fence in small sections - being very considerate of our neighbors who all have dogs - so no area was left open for long. After the job was complete, Mark called to follow up. We happily shared that we are thrilled with our new fence and would definitely recommend Evergreen!

Mark was professional and easy to work with throughout the project. He had some innovative ideas re making the new deck more aesthetically pleasing than the old one, e.g., rerouting a down spout to provide a bit more room on deck surface. His cost estimate was very competitive vis a vis the other estimates we received. He handled all the permit and related paperwork with the City of Rockville. His start date and duration of project estimates were on the mark. The company that delivered the materials came at 8:15 on the scheduled morning, and stacked the materials neatly on the driveway. The crew chief Ryan and his assistant Mike were pleasant and hardworking, and easy to communicate with. They worked hard and it was clear that they were craftsmen who knew what they were doing. I would recommend Mark and the Evergreen company without hesitation.

The process started out well with Mark showing up at the scheduled date/time to provide initial estimate and discuss various options (pressure-treated wood, cedar, composite, vinyl). Afterwards, it took between 1-3 weeks to get responses to related questions. After one of the 3-week waits, and while I had him on the phone, I asked him to send me a contract for the pressure-treated wood option. After waiting for weeks, expecting the contract to arrive any day to no avail, I finally decided to go with another company with no regrets. The other company was professional, responsive, less expensive, with excellent craftsmanship.

I called and they came out promptly as promised to give me an estimate. I called 2 other companies and got another estimate. Evergreen was the most responsive and seemed very knowledgeable. We are very pleased with the work the 2 Evergreen workers performed. It was 105 degrees and the men had to dig large holes, carry away and bring in extremely heavy long wooden posts and a beam. They did a wonderful job grading the soil under the deck and left everything tidy. Any damage to surrounding grass cover was minimal. We remarked that these 2 guys left our home cleaner and neater than any other company we've used and we tend to be very picky. I would definitely use the services of Evergreen again.

I was really happy with the experience. Mark came out and gave a quote. We got two other quotes and then decided to use Evergreen. We wanted a couple of changes to our original plan, so Mark came back out to give a new quote and then we signed a contract. There is a three-man team that came to do the work, and they took down our old fence and put up the new one in a three-day time frame. Mark and the team were very accommodating, available, and flexible to our needs and this specific project. For example, there had been ivy growing on our old fence that we wanted gone. The removed the old ivy along with the fence (another company had said we'd need to do the work to remove the ivy... which would have been A LOT of work for us.) and the Evergreen team even sprayed weed killer on the ivy coming from the ground while the fence was gone, helping us prevent it from coming back on the new fence. We're happy with the final product, and I'm happy to have supported a local company that takes pride in its work. They only work on one project at a time, so our project got the attention that it deserved. The final project shows this!

We looked into replacing our deck two years ago but found the plethora of building materials and design options daunting, and finally decided not to decide. This go ?round it all fell into place while consulting with Mark Dillon as he drew on his deck building experience to offer a manageable number of good options. We selected Fiberon Ipe decking which has variations in color that look like real wood without the maintenance. And we used bronze aluminum spindles for a much improved view through the railing compared to our old 2X2 wood spindles. Both Mark and his expert crew of Ryan and Mike were very accommodating of minor revisions and suggestions we made before and during the work on the project, and did not nickel and dime us with any revisions to the cost of the project. From making a trap door to reach the outdoor faucet easily to suggesting that we leave a 30 year old azalea bush (which I had expected to lose but hadn?t the heart to cut yet) which encroached on their work space, the crew improvised as need arose. They even added a molding along the house edge of the deck for a practical and finished touch. In addition to the main deck, they remodeled a wobbly upper deck off a bedroom into a safe and secure balcony. They did really fine, precise work, and took pride in their work. Mark?s estimate was lower than two other estimates we received, but we in no way felt that we sacrificed quality of materials or workmanship. We could not be happier with our new deck and would highly recommend Evergreen to anyone wanting a well built deck.
