They did a fantastic job. They showed up on time, were clean and fast. We did have a problem the same day of the installation. They came out within a few hours and fixed it. They had been great. The installation price was very expensive compared to the other quotes that I got, but it was worth the money. I would continue to use this company.
Description of Work: I have a service contract with John C Flood and they recently replaced the unit.

I submitted a form on the company's Web site around 8:30 in the evening when I discovered the problem and they called promptly at 7:00 a.m. the following morning to say that a technician could be there within in a hour - which he was. Now, that's what I call responsive! Turned out to be a very minor repair that took only a few moments to complete, but the two-person team checked the unit to make sure there were no further electric or electronic issues. Handy to have someone who can deal with the HVAC, A/C and electrical issues all at once since I didn't know exactly what the problem was. Only paid the diagnosis fee since it was a simple repair. John C. Flood is going into my speed dial for sure!
Description of Work: My central A/C unit suddenly stopped working yesterday. John C. Flood sent a team first thing this morning who quickly found the problem, a faulty electrical part, which was removed and the unit repaired. They also checked the unit to make sure no other electrical issues were present while on site. All is working fine. Took but 5-10 minutes to find and repair the problem.

I was very pleased with their work. We hadn?t known the source of the leak, but they isolated the source of the problem and then corrected it. However, their price was a little expensive.
Description of Work: They came and did the work for us 1 month ago. Initially, they came in on a weekend and assessed that the leak was coming from a bathroom. They came in later on a weekday and corrected the problem.

I think $500 to "rule out" issues is excessive. Subsequently, I found out all he did was run some tests on the city water meter, which the city will come out and do for free and which he is not supposed to touch without city permission. He also said he "cleaned some valves" but when I asked him which valves, he is not specific. I called another plumber after him who charged $29 to come to the same diagnosis (problem is under the house). My handyman also came out and came to the same conclusion...for free. I am not sure why it took Flood plumbers $500 to run diagnostics that other companies do for $30. I called to complain and the tech blew me off. I called again and he never called me back. He also never had me sign a work order, nor did he give me a receipt.
Description of Work: I called the company to help me figure out why there was low water pressure in the house. He said he thought he knew what it was, but it would take about a half a days work to find out. He quoted me $500. Then he called me back and said he has ruled out what it is not, but most likely the problem is under the house and will cost $5000 to fix.

We do not rate them very highly at all. They lack professionalism. They showed up to install new heater, but did not bring the new unit. I took that day off and had to sit around waiting for 3-4 hours for them to come up with the heater to put in.

So far they have come out twice, spring and fall of 2008. They have reported no problems with our system at these maintenance checks and everything is running smoothly. The called me to schedule the fall appointment after we had purchased the plan in the spring and were very proactive which I liked. Both service men were friendly and professional.

It wasn't a good experience. One guy came out to tell me what was wrong and he didn't really answer my questions or my follow-ups, but he asked for $150 to come out. Then another guy came out to sell me on the service and he couldn't answer any of my questions either. By the way, they were both late. They'd like me to cough up nearly $2k, but nobody could tell me what that dough would be buying. It is all still a mystery to me. In conclusion, my impression of John C Flood is that they are not really offering a service, just a money scheme.

They were responsive with the estimate, but were short on the installation on neatness and professionalism. The unit worked, but there are some issues that weren't resolved. They came out and looked at the problem. Someone else is to fix it, but they haven't been back.

I was very dissatisfied with their service. They lost the key to my house. Stole the ladder from my neighbors and broke into my bathroom window. The work was not quality work. They covered things up and left things undone. They did not seem to know how to do the work. I had to have someone else come in and finish the work for them. They covered up the moldy flooring in the kitchen instead of tearing it out first. They hooked up the dishwasher wrong. They did not caulk around the shower. They did not put the sub floor down correctly in the bathroom and the vinyl is already starting to come up. This was a disaster.
Description of Work: They were suppose to clean the hot water heater and furnace and light them. They were suppose to redo the bathroom and kitchen. Install shower/tub and cabinet and toilet in the bathroom. In kitchen they were suppose to take out the old moldy flooring and replace it, replace the kitchen sink and cupboard.

They only put a washer in the faucet in the sink. Two weeks later the sink was running water like Niagara Falls. They came back out after I complained. The men who came were unprofessional and dirty. They looked at the faucet and told me it was old and needed replacing. He came without tools and could not shut the water off. He called the office to tell them that I would not let him do the work because I would not let them shut the entire water system down when it was not necessary. The office said they could not guarantee the work.

I called the DC office at approximately 10 am and they scheduled a technician to come the same day between noon and 1 pm. The technician arrived at 12:30 pm and began work right away. He was able to complete the annual checks of both heating units in a little over an hour (they charge $39 for each 15 minute increment plus an additional flat fee for each service call). Both were fine. The technician also immediately suspected that our problem A/C unit was low on freon based on my description. When he checked the system he was proved correct and added two pounds of freon to fix it. The system has worked perfectly since through a week of unusually hot October weather (in the 90's and humid). The price should have been higher because of the freon ($60ish per pound), but the tech had a problem with his equipment that delayed the work for about an hour and he reduced the price to make up for it. Overall, very happy with the company, very professional, timely and explained their work.
Description of Work: We own a row-house in northwest DC with separate rental unit in the lower level with it's own system. They performed the scheduled fall maintenance check of two gas heating units. They also performed trouble shooting for the rental unit's A/C system and added two pounds of freon.

The air conditioner is working well. There was problem along the way as they charged a flat fee of $200 to come to the house. When they figured out the problem and they said it would be a standard 4 hour labor charge of $200 an hour which ended up being $800. When they came to do the work, I asked them to include the $200 service call since I was having them do the work, they said no that was different service call. They were at my home for 90 minutes but would not charge me the fee they had quoted. They had to come back 2 more times because the of poor workmanship. The compressor was covered by our home warranty. The price stated is labor only.

I'd say I was pleased with the work done. They not only did the whole work very fast, but they were also very neat. They cleaned everything up after every day of work, which I thought was a very big deal considering how plumbers are regarding that. I do not have any complaints regarding this crew.

The installers came on July 3 to do the job. Everything went well with the exception of replacing the line. Try as they might, it wouldn't budge. I was told that they would have to cut through my upstairs neighbor's wall to get to the problem and free the line. My neighbor was away for the holiday and work stopped. When I finally reached my neighbor and explained the situation, she was helpful and agree to have her wall cut open. Luckily for us, Dale, the original foreman, came back to my house and assessed the situation and thought cutting a wall was the last resort. He physically went into a crawl space under my condominium and strong-armed the line out and replaced it with assistance from his co-worker. I was so thrilled to avoid cutting into my neighbors wall!!!
Description of Work: After originally calling to repair my air conditioning we decided that, given the cost, to replace our system. They removed and replaced our system with a new energy efficient two ton unit. The price included a crane to put it on my roof, labor and any materials. They also had to replace an existing refrigerant line to comply with new codes.

A rep from John Flood reported that the heat and A/C failed because of some electrical work that was left undone by John Flood. He also reported that the furnace flue was detached so if the heat had come on, carbon monoxide would have leaked into the house. I called John Flood to have someone investigate the incident but got no response. I had to call twice before being put in touch with the salesman on the job. I had to call the salesman three times before he was finally responsive. In a voice mail to me, the salesman explained that a John Flood contractor mistakenly removed the furnace flue and didn't tell anyone because he didn't realize what he had done. The salesman offered a half hearted apology but no other recourse. The mistake made by John Flood could have been fatal and yet the company didn't seem remotely concerned. I would absolutely not hire this company to do any additional work and I give the company an F for overall performance.
Description of Work: We contracted with John Flood to do the following work: 1. Install a dryer vent in the space next to the washing machine, and close the dryer vent that existed in another area of the house. 2. Cover exposed pipes in the half bath in the basement with dry wall. 3. Build a slip in the furnace so that the filter can be removed easily. 4. Move the face plate for the electrical outlet for the dryer from the previous place for the dryer to the new location, next to the washer. After having John Flood do several projects costing a total of $2800, we realized the heat and A/C didn't come on in the house. We called John Flood to see if they were responsible for the problem. It turns out they were.

The first plumber was late and did not call her to ahead of the appointment or tell her that he was running late. He arrived one hour late with countertop installers waiting and spent 30 minutes to disconnect the sink. The second plumber with trainee helper arrived and spent 2 hours to connect the new sink due to less clearance under the sink. They did provide her with a $69 faucet, which was helpful. Flood of DC told me they charge $129/hour but charged her $700. Hmmm... do the math. I called to complain about the charges and they told me that was cheap. I asked to have a manager call me to discuss it but nobody called me back.
Description of Work: My 77 year old mother called Flood of DC to request a plumber come and remove the 7" deep stainless steel kitchen sink before the countertop installers came to do their work, and then return the next day to connect the new 9" deep stainless steel sink.

I called JC Flood at 7:30am on Monday morning, by 8:15am two plumbers were on my doorstep. Plumbers are always expensive, but these guys did a great job!!! (another company gave me an estimate over the phone of $1000+ for the same work).
Description of Work: They replaced a valve to stop a serious leak in my main-water shut off, fixed a poorly installed shut-off valve on the hot water line in the kitchen (the original installer had used soft instead of hard pipe) and installed an emergency gas shut-off valve on the gas line to the stove. They were responsive and helpful.

My wife was the witness to their job so this info is secondhand but I did see the final job. They removed the clogged steel drain J pipe with a plastic one. My wife had requested metal but their reply was ''nobody uses metal anymore.'' The drain was basically a pool filter basin attached to a J pipe that does not drain completely leaving a standing pool of water in the basin. Moreover, the drain cover does not permit adequate drainage unless placed upside down.
