Capitol Improvements

I scheduled an appointment for an estimate with Patrick, not only did I get a solid quote but I also received a mini lesson on roof types, materials, & color selections (this included pictures on his iPad) and how they impact the look of the exterior of the home. This information made the selection of color & type easily and allow me to make an informed decision. I selected Capitol Wednesday & had a completely installed roof on Saturday. The process was carried just as described. Now I have a brand new roof that changed the entire look of the house for the better. Great! A small 1938 bungalow with cracked asbestos shingle and no tyvek, we really wanted new siding and gutters to replace the old stuff and weatherproof the place better. Austin & Pat did a great job with the virtual remodel options and photographs. Pat is a very knowledgeable guy to talk with and loves showing off the other projects they have going to help you see things in a real-time setting. Really helped my partner and I feel comfortable with colors and material choices before they began work. They have great financing options available, too, which we took advantage of since the work was a big job but needed doing sooner rather than later. The siding crew started quickly after we made our material choices (wide slate blue hardieplank with a cantilever addition and porch awning in wide cedar-color vinyl shake) and with 7 guys or so had the old siding stripped, the home rewrapped and resided in 2 days. It was amazingly fast, and I watched them a few times... they really took care and detailed attention with the work. Superb crew. Hung my new porch lights, house numbers, and tried to mitigate some of the power line appearance on the side of the home. They asked questions to make sure I was satisfied while I was there, and they just had great craftsmanship and work ethic. The second crew for the painting (foundation, bay window roof, and porch steps) was likewise quick and professional. I missed the visit, but the work is solid. Even came out for a second coat when I mentioned the steps weren't quite opaque, since covering a bright red is difficult. Third crew for the gutters were the least reliable of the bunch. They came out and did the gutters/covers in one day, but seemed rushed and made some oversights I had to point out to them with alignment/finishing. They took care of it, but simply by comparison to the amazingly competent siding crew, these guys seemed a little frazzled. Glad I was on site that day. When there was a leak a few weeks later, they came right out to fix that spot. The gutters now work flawlessly and look great. Pat was responsive and helpful through the entire process, and I'm really glad I hired these folks. When we need a new roof in 5 years or so, I'll definitely come back to them.

No company should trespass on an adjacent roof to replace a neighboring roof without the property owners permission. At the least, in this case, the company should be willing to remedy this poor practice by providing a photo inspection and repairing any damage should damage be discovered. I would not want to use a company that makes this a practice.

Service experience was excellent. My HOA noticed the previous owner of my house patched my roof with mismatched shingles requiring either complete replacement of the roof or another patch. I received three estimates one about 40% higher than Capitol Improvements, one lower but with lesser materials and reasonable proposal for the entire roof replaced with matching shingles. Pat Jewell showed up on time to provide an estimate, was very knowledgeable about my roof, house and neighborhood. He provided a thorough overview of the process to replace the roof, ordered the materials, communicated with me throughout the work and delivered on every promise he made. The roof looks fantastic, meets the HOA guidelines and is guaranteed for 25 years. I'll not have to worry about the roof for 25 years and the HOA will not bother me anymore! That's a great feeling. Pat and Austin Jewell were my primary contacts throughout the process which took a total of about 8 days from estimate to roof completion. I'm a very happy customer and recommend them highly.

Four reasons you'll be happy you need a new roof if you hire Capitol Home Improvements: 1) They will give you a quote online based on satellite imagery. I mean, how cool is that? One company we had out told us they couldn't even give us a price until they started working. (Umm, no.) Capitol Home Improvements sent us a great package of info including three roof options and what any extras might include. Like wood - we knew we needed some wood replaced. They will give you two sheets free and the (low) price of any sheets beyond that was clear. No surprises. 2) You won't find a better price. Anywhere. We really didn't know what we were facing when we knew we needed a new roof, but we ended up paying about a third of what we were anticipating. They will give you the best price because they want your business and they want you to recommend them to others (which is exactly what I am proud to be doing to you). 3) They are a family business. Call me a little old fashioned, but I really love that. You don't see it as much these days and it makes me happy when I do. When we scheduled an in-person follow up appointment after receiving our satellite quote by e-mail, you know who came? The OWNER of the company. Not a salesman hired out to try and sell me an overpriced job. THE OWNER, Pat. (And Pat is awesome.) 4) The customer service is unparalleled. I always knew I could reach out with questions to either Pat or his son, Austin. They made the whole process as comfortable as can be (as great as the price was, a new roof is still an expensive and kind of scary). But...oops. Something happened during the installation and our downspout came detached from the gutter. And they didn't fix it. THEY REPLACED IT. That's right, instead of just repairing the issue, they made it right by replacing the entire front gutter and downspout on the house. (I don't have to tell you who we are going to hire when we need the rest of the gutters done.) Customer for life right here, folks. While Pat was at the house discussing the job, we called and cancelled our other appointments and signed right there. We knew Capitol Home Improvements was who we wanted to go with. And we are so glad we did. Next up. . . windows.

They were very professional. Pat Jewell was very helpful to us in choosing the color and style of shingles. The roofers came as scheduled and the entire job was completed in one day. Their cleanup of old shingles and nails was thorough. I didn't find a single nail after they left. The new roof looks great and we have had many complements on it.

Contractor did fantastic job. Workmanship, cleanliness, professionalism, and timeliness were all top notch. Roof is somewhere between 2600 and 2900 sq. ft.

It went great. Pat and his crew provided the service that they promised, and I have already used them again for a second unrelated job.

I had the privilege of hiring Pat to replace our roof and gutters. We received 3 quotes and Pat had the best price and provided the best service warranty. Once we were able to nail down a specific date on the install, the roofers were very punctual, polite and efficient and the gutter installation only took about an hour. I was very pleased with the finished product and I would recommend Pat to anyone looking to have work done.

Came out to give an estimate but never called back to give the estimate, after trying to change the requested appointment time to meet his needs and not mine. After waiting over a week, I re-emailed the salesman and he called back with not being able to provide an estimate due a supply issue. To note, one of his sales pitche lines was the availability of supplies and "cutting out the middle man" He had an excellent sales pitch (sounded like a used car salesman), not too pushy by borderline. I would of definitely used them had they provided an estimate or had any follow through. Was provided with a great full color brochure and some pictures of some completed projects, and that was it. Never heard from him again. Update 9/23/14 Received multiple emails and phone calls from the company after I left initial review. Told me he could not guarantee any work/siding due to manufacturing issues with both the siding and the type of windows in neighbor's house that caused the warping in the first place, d/t to reflected sunlight during certain times during the summer. Looks like virtually every other house in the HOA will have warped siding forever. Only solution is to: Have neighbor install window covering or protective sheet on their windows and then replace our vinyl siding or go with aluminum siding, both of course is not an option.

It went very well! Mr. Jewel is very down to earth and personable, he came out to give me a price quote himself. The workers arrived on time, they worked until they completed the job, they did a great job cleaning up, there were no traces of them ever being there! They didn't kill any of my bushes or flowers while installing the windows. The price was very competitive. I was extremely satisfied with this company. I highly recommend them!

Replaced old roofing and roof vents. Removed old cement slat siding and replaced with vinyl, also replaced soffits, fascia and side boards. Removed old gutters and downspouts and replaced them with a larger size to enhance flow and inserted gutter guards that will prevent leaves and other tree debris from clogging the gutters The company employees were timely, very considerate, responsive to questions., and very professional. They warranty their work. On occasion, I pulled the "while you're here, could you look at this, too?" and if their schedule allowed, took care of the 'new' concern, but sometimes said they couldn't and indicated they would take care of it soonest which always meant the next day. They always have gone above and beyond. I will use this company again with out any reservation and would highly recommend them to anyone.

The aluminum coil wrap match the existing trim perfectly. We were extremely pleased with the professionalism of Pat and the workers. They started the job on time and cleaned up the debris each day. We will definitely use them in the future since they not only do siding but roofing, windows, and gutters/guards as well.

After obtaining several estmates for the work, we chose Capitol Improvements, and are very pleased with every interaction we had. Pat took the time to explain the process, and answer all of our questions. Both sets of crews who came out were prompt, worked steadily, and thoroughly cleaned up. When we had a question following the fascia board repair, Pat was quick to return our call and address our concern. Our new gutters and fascia boards look fantastic and we are very happy with this company. We plan to call again when are ready to have our windows replaced.

Salesman gave the classic hard sale - a certain price if you buy within the next year, a cheaper price if you buy within the next month, and an even cheaper price if you buy that day only during the sales presentation. I told the guy upfront that I just wanted one quote and there was no chance I would sign a contract during the visit. He pushed ahead anyway despite my insistence he not.

The crew was extremely business-like and got the work done when they promised. They cleaned up everything and did not leave until I was completely satisfied with their work. Very polite and extremely detail oriented. Overall a good experience. I should have had this done years ago. Now I have a maintenance free home on the outside. Thanks guys.
