Description of Work: Skywright replaced two skylights above my kitchen. The price per unit was $2280 which was fully inclusive of removal/disposal of the old skylights, cost of the new skylights, and installation. We were also able to take advantage of a $25 Angie's list discount. We purchased the solar powered open with solar powered blackout blinds curb mount application. The warehouse messed up the order originally but the day the skylights came in, they were installed. Installation was able to be completed without anyone being home. We're looking forward to the 30% tax credit for which the solar powered models qualify.

I had used them before. That experience was pretty good. They were competent. Their pricing was good. The skylights I got a quote on are high impact and have shatter proof glass so it was a little bit higher than what some skylights go for but it was what I requested.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Skywright for two skylights. I will be using them and they have ordered the skylights.

It was difficult to reach a person who could schedule a visit to assess the work. Once we had the estimate and had put down a 50% deposit for the custom skylights, we didn't hear anything. Our inquiry on when the skylights would arrive and be installed resulted in next day installation! Since we didn't know installation would take place that day, it was convenient in the sense that we didn't have to arrange our schedules to be home. The final invoice was issued without checking the deposit amount, but there were no issues when we disputed the overcharge.
Description of Work: Three skylights with broken seals were replaced. It was difficult to reach anyone to get an estimate. After repeated attempts, the owner provided an estimate that was exactly what the work cost. Aside from communications being sporadic, we were very pleased with this company.

He was very good. He was very prompt in giving an estimate. He ordered and then installed it. I did not have to be here when he installed it. He was very friendly and helpful. He was clean and neat. He provided good warranty. In terms of price, he was on the high-end but I could not find anybody else to do it. Quality of work was very good. Hope I do not have to, but if the need arose, I would use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used the services of Skywright for skylights. The cost was $600. The last time I used their services was today.

The whole project went pretty bad. After initial inspection, it took a month until he (Matt Sullivan of SkyWright) came (unannounced) with a well refurbished window (although he did not use glazol for sealing but regular caulking material); the window though did not fit back inside the frame and it was not closing any better than it was before! For the top of the skylight he was prepared to replace only the window panes although we explicitly talked about replacing the top after repairing the top side of the louvres (on which the top skylight is supposed to mount onto). He said there was a misunderstanding and pointed out to the paperwork (on which indeed was written what he was prepared to do instead of what we have had established verbally!). We again talked about how we want the whole top of the skylight replaced with a similar top. He said ok but it will have to be special ordered since it is old style, off-size. We again paid advance deposit. After 2.5 weeks and a phone call, he finally came (again, without calling before) and did the work. We found the bill under the door. Upon the inspection we found a FLAT skylight snapped precariously on top of the old louvres (he did not fix the top of the louvres and therefore did not have enough material to securely install all mounting screws for the new skylight - see video attached). Not only the installation was not professional (loose skylight, top of louvres not repaired - which was the original cause of water entering inside, and hence our main reason to replace the old skylight)! AGAIN it was not what we verbally agreed upon. Ironically, he did write on the paper work that he will install a certain model of a skylight, which turned out to be a flat one - of course, he did not point that to us nor did he gave us a drawing, a flyer or any informational material (he does claim he usually gives these to the clients but he admits he might have forgotten). There were a few people in the house during both of the discussions with the specialist. We know what we talked with him and what we asked him to do. He decided to just do what he knows best. Unfortunately he had to improvise, given the old-style skylight, and the results have been pretty bad. I will also mention that he left the old panes of glass on the roof of the house as well. We started the project with him around July 1st. Today is September 28th, we are still waiting for a drawing of a top he said he has found to be manufactured for us by a company in Baltimore (that was on September 20th and the top alone was said to cost $1500). We asked by phone and email (twice) for total price and drawings or images but have received neither. Update September 30th. We called one more time Matt Sullivan. He said he was not able to get a drawing or a flyer to show the new, proposed top for the skylight. We had no choice but to give up on the work agreement. We asked him to come and remove the flat skylight and asked for refund. Update October 13th. We called again inquiring about the refund. He did not seem to know what refund are we talking about! He said he will look into it. Update November. After I reported him to DC Office for Protection of Consumers I got a call from DC Attorney General's Office. We were able to reach the agreement to have 50% of my downpayment (50% of $250) returned to me. I will make the repair myself. Too bad it is already WINTER!
Description of Work: The specialist (Matt Sullivan of SkyWright) was supposed to replace top of old-style skylight (the style with louvres) and also refurbish the corresponding window inside the bathroom, window which was not closing well anymore. After two and a half months he only refurbished the window (which still does not close properly) and finished by installing, out of code, a flat skylight on top of the old louvres.

This company was supposed to install a Velux 2246 skylight. The skylight the installer bought to my house did not fit and he used another one instead. I do not know if it was the one specified. There is much airleak, and a return visit by the company did not help. I have to stuff the edges with foam in the winter and use plastic shrink wrap. A year later I was informed by a roofer that the skylight was not installed properly. Outside, the installer used mill finish aluminum in two pieces which were tarred together. I was told by the roofer that metal which can be soldered together should be used or one piece of metal should be used. A letter to the company about this got no response. Needless to say the old skylight which was replaced because of air leaking was as good if not better than the new one. The skylight should have cost no more than 200 dollars, making the installation extremely expensive as it did not take that long.
Description of Work: Installed 2 X 4 Skylight, by contract, should have been Velux 2246.
