Case Design Remodeling Inc did a wonderful job. The guy that came out was great. They were very communicative. They had to do work outside and the weather was bad, so they had to reschedule. But they came exactly when they said they would. He did what he was supposed to do and in a very professional way. They ask you for a $100.00 deposit, protecting themselves. They're a little aggressive, but they're great. It was expensive, but I got what I paid for. It was worth it.

I've always liked them. They do well. They are always very good. They are there when they say they are going to and they are pretty good at communicating. They are a little pricey.
Description of Work: I have used Case Design & Remodeling. I use them more for handyman things. They did some carpentry kinds of things. I have a business where I have some locations and they were doing some things out on my sites, like repairing a door and that kind of things.

The results looked great, just what owner wanted. However ten years later nearly all the woodwork has rotted, the floor is unstable, and the entire enclosed porch likely has to be gutted. Owner kept the wood painted, but apparently Case failed to use pressure treated materials where they should have and failed to paint the ends and edges of each piece of wood. Small amounts of moisture have invaded and totally rotted out the structure. This should not have happened given that proper maintenance (painting and caulking) was done regularly.

Yearly maintenance is required as mentioned in our contract to upkeep the integrity of the work. We do not have additional information as to how moisture appeared in the structure to comment on that. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us. Thanks.

The person who came to the house was extremely likeable, knowledgeable and detail oriented. He asked a lot of questions about what we would want done and he explained their process of planning, which would take place if we were seriously considering having the work done after an initial estimate of work. This process would include meetings of designers and planners who would provide input in the project and be consulted throughout. There would, naturally, be a cost for this level of professionalism and It was clear they would do as excellent a job as possible and I have no doubt I would have been thrilled with the work. But alas, our house is a modest one, and the estimate, though provided in a timely manner, was well beyond my budget and I was unable to afford to have the work performed. I think this is an excellent firm, whose costs are beyond my budget for this project. If I had an historical home or another source of funding, I would definitely use them.
Description of Work: The provider gave me an initial estimate for remodeling work that would include construction of a small dormer and expanding a guest bedroom into an attic space which would include electrical and finishing work.

To start with, we were told by the salesman, that our project would easily take less than 10 weeks. Sadly the project took over 5 months. At first we were told that they couldn't start (after I had already completed the demolition) until we ordered the pendant lights for over the peninsula. If it were not for my wife's and my constant attention to what was going on this would have been a complete disaster. The contract called for project management but the person assigned to do that was "demoted" back to carpenter. He worked at a snails pace, often times taking a whole day to install a single cabinet or cupboard. Within two weeks he quit the company making sure we heard all of his complaints with what was going on as he exited. The next few carpenters all had similar complaints, and because of the lack of any project management or coordination (often times there were 7 or more days in between when someone was actually doing work) there were several critical mistakes made. Even after pointing out to them that the peninsula 4 inches short and that because of that the drawers would not clear the refrigerator. They insisted that everything would be fine. The result was that the drawers did indeed hit the refrigerator and as a result we had to move the refrigerator and buy a custom 8 foot high, 4" wide filler board ($280). The next major error was with the installation of the stacked stone wall. Because the stone had to turn an outside corner we had to order special tiles so that an edge would not show. It wasn't until they installed 3-4' of stone that we noticed they were cutting the corner pieces because they didn't see how they fit with the other pieces. Every box of corner pieces were cut and had to be re-ordered which resulted in another 2 week delay. We did our research, without using Angie's List, found CASE to be the highest regarded contractor with a impressive portfolio that they showed us. They also were the highest priced of all the contractors that bid on the job. The reference that they gave us were all very, very large projects and they gave glowing reviews. This company is the reason we joined Angie's List
Description of Work: This was a full kitchen remodel. Walls were stripped down to the studs, all new appliances, cabinets, granite countertops, exhaust fan above cooktop, and sink. Walls were covered in a stacked stone tile and the wall above the cooktop, behind the exhaust, was done in tile and stone.

It went very well. Chuck and his project manager were excellent. Quality work. The only thing that I was not expecting was the huge cost associated with such a small job. For 16k, I could have replaced my entire kitchen cabinets. But overall, I would recommend again.

There was a communications problem due a an extended family emergency on his end and there apparently was no one monitoring his email or phone number, so by the time he got back in touch with us, the job had already been done by another company. The Case representative was right. They should have been replaced. Due to the tight space for the stove hood, the laminate is pieced around it in place and it not only shows, it will be destroyed if that hood has to be removed for any reason.
Description of Work: We contacted Case regarding minor updating of our kitchen. The Case representative was wonderful. I liked his approach to a project - it is the same as mine. What do I want to achieve and what do I have to start with? He suggested replacing existing cabinetry while we thought we just wanted to reface them. I thought the quote was a bit high at first but was not a lot more than we ended up paying for a job I am not happy with. If the service and quality of workmanship was anything like he described, it would be worth every penny. We have another, larger project coming up this year and I will definitely be contacting them for a bid and proposal.

They added a new bath to the upstairs. After a little structural confusion - despite our raising the question originally - they solved the engineering problem, started 2 months late but stayed on schedule after that. Professional, courteous, cleaned up after themselves each day, explained each step, and responded to phone calls within 30 minutes. This team was superlative, and the workmanship is excellent!

Several years ago, Case did two large projects for us: partial remodeling of a basement area and bath, and another project replacing a large porch destroyed by a fallen tree. Since then, we also had an exterior door replaced and some miscellaneous tasks. The door replacement was done by a person no longer with the company in April 2009. In October 2013, I contacted Case because the exterior door frame was rotting, in some places rotted through to the exterior, frame covered with mold, hinges showing signs of rust and water dripping through at the top of the door during rain. This is a door rarely used, so we had not noticed its decline. Adrian Andreossi came from Case to check the door and told us it had not been installed correctly. The handyman division at Case arranged with us to supply the labor to replace the door and we purchased a new door. We purchased the 2013 replacement door because the 4-year-old paperwork indicated that in 2009 the handyman had bought the door himself (not through Case) and passed the cost to us. If we had purchased the door through Case, I imagine they would have provided the replacement. Adrian arranged a very easy credit-card-by-email purchase of the 2013 door from a local lumberyard. "Fred," the handyman division, scheduled the installation, which was smoothly done and very pleasant. The door looks great and is definitely installed differently from before. It hasn't leaked during rain since installation. We are very pleased that Case stood behind their work and reinstalled a new door and frame. We couldn't ask for better service. Thanks to Case and "Fred" for a happy ending. The "Fred" craftsman was Robin Parkinson and he did a very professional job.

Eleven years ago Case Design did a screened porch enclosure on my home in Arlington. The work was thoroughly professional, to contract spec, and completed on time.First rate from start to finish. I also can report that in the past 11 years the construction has stood a test of time. That is, no leaks, material separations or any structural issues. The reason I am writing this review is to attest to what an outstanding organization Case has proven to be. Just recently, when installing some recessed lighting, I discovered that the roof cavity was not insulated. I had assumed this had been done because it was code. Upon checking the original contract, it mentioned both floor and wall insulation, but nothing about the roof. After so much time had passed, Case could have argued that I had de facto "accepted" the work as performed. I told them if that was their decision, I could live with that. Life is short and the amount involved was not large. Nonetheless, I told them I would appreciate if they would rectify the oversight. They did. This is impressive customer service and it shows why Case has been such a successful company in the DC area over the years.
Description of Work: Eleven years ago Case enclosed my 200 sq. ft. screened porch, converting it into an additional room. This month I discovered that insulation had not been put into the roofing cavity. I asked Case whether it would rectify the situation.

Very prompt and professional. The first job was better done by the hour, but did take much longer than I expected -a full day. The second job was done by contract. I must have misunderstood exactly what they were planning to do or read close enough to the contract. We had studs repaired in one room that had been cut by another company when a sump pump was installed, and new studs in a second room to prepare for drywall hanging. I though they were going to replace some damaged studs, but they just nailed new studs to the existing ones, and in the other room, I had to have them come back a second time (thankfully not an issue to schedule) because they covered up an electrical outlet and used 1x2 studs for the base plate instead of a normal 2x 4 that was in the studs. They said it wasn't a structural issue, but It looked really weird so I am happy they agreed to fix. Unfortunately I only noticed recently that they also only went as far up to where our old drop ceiling was, so we will have to fill in when we hang drywall from the ceiling. Overall, I thought we paid way more than we got out of it. We could have done this ourselves (as armatures) way way cheaper and with the same quality.

OY. I chose Case despite the high end price because I wanted reliable project management. I didn't get it. The guy doing the work actually incorrectly installed the wrong color tile around the tub faucet not just once but twice! Yes, he was told once this was supposed to be black, took it out, then reinstalled it!!! He installed a tub spout that wasn't the right length and when that was pointed out he said "yeah I saw that". Why install it then? He chipped the mirror which Case replaced. The cabinets that Case pushed me to buy look cheap and have a huge gap between the doors. The paint job wasn't great - the walls apparently didn't get prepped at all. The guy did a good job on the floor. Three months after Case left- the caulking turned yellow, the grout job started coming apart, and where the granite meets the wall-the drywall is breaking apart. Save your money and do not use CASE.

These guys were very punctual, very responsive, and very professional. The quality of the work is evident, and that has been noticed by all of my friends and family that have used the bathroom. Adrian did the initial estimate and designed the bathroom. The new layout he came up with is perfect, I would have never thought of it. These guys are honest that they cost a bit more than others, but their guys are very experienced. Vinny (great craftsman, who did the work) got here everyday at 7, worked non-stop until 3:30 and communicated everything that was going on at the end of every day. I will use them for my master bath next year and some other work I plan on doing in the future.

We hired Case Design & Remodeling Inc to change out the linoleum tile on the master bath walls and soaker tub surface from the construction grade material, and install a seamless shower with a seat. THE WORK WAS HORRIBLE!! I wish I could post pictures. The grout looks like a two year old tried to smooth it out with their finger. Some of the areas of tiles are wider than others. On some of the grout lines, the spacing is ½ inch wide while others are almost touching. On one corner of the wall, at the top, the tile is approximately 5/8 inches from the corner and at the bottom of the same wall, the tile is right at the corner. IT CROOKED! They told us it was the way the wall was built. They got grout all on the walls along the edges. They were also supposed to install a ?seamless?...SEAMLESS!! shower but installed a shower with a metal frame instead. We were new homeowners and did not realize how aggressive you have to be with contractors in order to get them to give you exactly what you paid good money ($38,000) for; now we know. They did the work while we were at work and after a long day, we should not have to fight with contractors. Case is undeniably the worst contractors we have dealt with so far. They made no attempt to fix the situation and always had an excuse. I think they gave us a crew of apprentices. For the money we paid, we should have gotten professionals. They should rename the company 'Just in Case (you want to waste your money) Design & Remodeling'.

While we've chosen a different company, Steve Scholl and his firm will be one we look to for future projects. Today, even after learning of our decision to go another way last week, he sent me a link on flooring that he thought I would be most interested in and he is right. This deserves a "shout-out" for above and beyond level of professionalism. You will discover this when you interview him for your next project. Call him!
Description of Work: Steve Scholl of Case Design in Falls Church, Va. was one of three design/build companies we interviewed for a kitchen/dining room renovation. It was a very difficult choice because all three had very professional presentations, detailed information on the process, and high accolades from recent clients. While another design/build company fit our needs more this is NOT a negative reflection on Mr. Scholl and Case Design of Falls Church. It is simply one of fit.

The process was great. Lisa was my designer and Loren was the project manager, both very professional, great suggestions, helpful, attentive to detail and on and on. The renovation took a tad longer than expected primarily because we had to wait for light fixtures which in the end we decided on another light fixture which came in quickly. I've only had them back once to do some minor correction (one tile was up a little more than the others in one corner and the shower glass doors don't want to stay closed on one end). Everything except for my soaker tub was replaced, a new larger shower with tile was installed, toilet was moved and vanity, mirror, fixtures and all lights were replaced. There was very little disruption, they came at 8:00 am instead of 7:00 am as requested, work on the 2nd bathroom (new floor and bathtub fixtures) were completed in one day and new faucets in kitchen and powder room as well as new light in kitchen were also done. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Their suppliers are terrific for flooring, fixtures, lights and vanity granite top.

Since we had several more interested, enthusiastic, and helpful initial consultations with other design-build firms, we had no reason to go any further with Case Design and Remodeling.
Description of Work: We never got beyond the initial consultation. The Case representative was reluctant to tell us much about the two projects we were planning - replacing our porch and deck and finishing the basement. He listened to what we had in mind, but gave us very little indication of how Case would handle the projects. He appeared to be holding back information regarding design options, materials, etc., with the expectation that we would proceed to the next stage. Whether he was thinking that we would do this based on Case's reputation or something else, he just didn't impress us as reflecting a company being helpful in planning the projects.

Our commitment is to be the best resource for homeowners in the metro area when it comes to their design-build and remodeling needs. Due to the enormous amount of options and materials available today, it is impossible to narrow down the choices in one meeting. We do not purposely hold back any information regarding design options or materials. Our process during the initial consultation is to carefully listen to exactly what the client wants and needs, present as much information and as many ideas/options as possible, then allow the client to move into the design phase if they choose. The design phase will help narrow down the layout and material selections that will best suit their needs. We apologize if this was not conveyed properly during this consultation.
