It was a great experience working with all of the employees of Case. The onsite workers were professional and friendly. The project manager Gary was excellent to work with and the minor issues I escalated to him were quickly resolved.
Description of Work: Case remodeled a large hall bathroom for me. It was completely gutted;tile replaced, window replaced, drywall replaced, a door moved and all fixtures replaced.

We worked with John Kent who was a consummate professional. He came and listened to our ideas, provided many of his own that we eventually coordinated in the design, and was very punctual. After many positive meetings, he came back with a very inflated price that didn't include the carpet removal and new flooring. We were disappointed.

They were great to work with, and did an excellent job. The man really had to work hard. I would definitely use them again.

Overall we are very happy with the work. The person who performed the work was an electrician by trade but did a great job on the entire project. He was extremely courteous and listened carefully to our every requirement for this job. He made several trips to complete the job, if necessary returning later in the evening (to apply additional coats of drywall, sand, etc.). He cleaned up meticulously after every visit. He removed the crown molding around the nook, built and installed a strong frame inside it, covered the space with drywall, and ran audio/video cables from the middle of the new wall to another wall. He installed all necessary electrical and audio/video outlets. My only complaint was that he was hesitant to do the final finishing and painting, as that was not his area of expertise. I'm fine with that, but it bothered me that he never arranged for someone else from Case to come and finish the job. In the end I hired another company to paint the new drywall.
Description of Work: We had a large TV nook over the fireplace in our living room. We wanted to use this space to hang a painting (or possibly a Plasma TV) so we hired Case Remodeling to drywall over this space and run audio/video cables for a flat screen TV hookup.

WE AT CASE ALWAYS APPRECIATE OUR CLIENTS’ FEEDBACK. DURING OUR PHONE CONSULTATION WE SCHEDULED 3 HOURS TO COMPLETE THE WORK, BUT ENDED UP FINISHING THE WORK IN 2 HOURS (WHICH IS OUR MINIMUM). WE ALWAYS GO THROUGH OUR HOURLY RATES OVER THE PHONE PRIOR TO THE WORK BEING SCHEDULED. THIS CLIENT AGREED TO OUR RATES. OUR HOME REPAIR SPECIALISTS ARE SUPPOSED TO NOTIFY THE CLIENT IN THE EVENT THAT THEY ARE LATE. IF IN THIS CASE THE CALL WAS NOT PLACED. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE IT MAY HAVE CAUSED. WE CERTAINLY HOPE THAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO WORK WITH THIS CLIENT ON FUTURE PROJECTS.

I feel that Case is too big to care about customer relations, and their handyman employees are not good enough to work at more professional outfits.
Description of Work: The handyman arrived almost two hours late, so I had to leave the handyman at my house to complete the job while I went to work. When I arrived back home, the work performed was not what I asked for. I called Case to let them know that I was unhappy with the work. They scheduled another day to come out, which I had to take off of work so they could complete the job that I asked for. Although they did complete the job and the work was done well, two things were broken in my bathroom, including a drain which caused water to spill all over my house every time the faucet was used, until I could get it fixed. Also, the handyman worked for 5 hours and 6 minutes. He charged me for 6 hours. Understandable, but he left all of the used material on my doorstep and left solder all over my floor and bathtub!!! He could have used at least half of the 54 minutes he charged me for to sweep up! It states that they remove all garbage and used equipment in their contract. OK work, but very shabby ethic.

Throughout the process, Case has done a great job of being there when they said they would and keeping to us informed of the work flow including what we needed to have on hand and when. After many years of horror stories from other people, we have had a great working relationship. Our construction team has been Bob and Paul, with Elvis assisting, and they have been very good to work with. They arrive every morning at 7 AM. They have been respectful of our space and time, and are conscientious in checking all decisions and needs with us daily. The work is of high quality and done quickly. The one ordering glitch was responded to quickly. In the earlier parts of the job, the team seemed to be spread across too many other jobs and so sometimes didn't get to us for a couple of days. However, they always let us know when they would be back and why there was a delay. Later in the job, they were very focused on getting our project completed - almost 2 months ahead of schedule.
Description of Work: This was remodel that involved a small addition, and complete remodel of our kitchen as well as a bathroom addition and a bathroom remodel. Case did all design work (by licensed architect) and has served as general contractor for the soup-to-nuts service of design/build. The kitchen remodel was in the addition portion and included a kitchen expansion, a new mudroom, as well as a new porch area. The other changes were the conversion of 3 bedrooms, one bath, to 2 bedrooms, 2 bath with a master suite and a new walk-in closet. The remodeled the existing bathroom and put in a new bathroom. We have lived in the basement throughout the process with 2 kids and several pets.

AS A RESPECTED LEADER IN THE REMODELING INDUSTRY SINCE 1961, WE MOST CERTAINLY CARE ABOUT SERVING OUR CLIENTS AS PROFESSIONALLY AND EFFICIENTLY AS POSSIBLE. IN THIS SITUATION THE INITIAL APPOINTMENT WAS MET PROMPTLY (NOT MISSED). A SECOND APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED AND MISSED FOR UNFORSEEN REASONS. THE CASE REPRESENTATIVE FOLLOWED UP WITH THE MEMBER TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION AND APOLOGIZED FOR MISSING THE SECOND APPOINTMENT AND TRIED TO RESCHEDULE, BUT FOUND OUT THAT THE MEMBER HAD MADE ARRANGEMENTS WITH ANOTHER CONTRACTOR.

The plan was to hire a GC so that my time would not be needed to coordinate. This was not the result. Calls were not returned promptly. The original salesman was patronizing and not thorough. The first deck plans were so poorly designed that they were rejected by the HOA. After actually taking measurements and pictures, the 2nd set were awesome and the finished product truly a delight. Many of the frustrations were caused by the original salesman poor communication skills. It took two installs on the painting spotlights because the first install were inferior quality lights that illuminated the entire wall. If you use this company, be very explicit about what you want. Case doesn't seem to care if the job is done right the first time. Although they advertise 100% satisfaction, complaints are met with excuses. Ultimately I am happy with the product but getting there was more hassle than it should have been. The 3200 spent on coordination fees was a waste of money.
Description of Work: Hired as General Contractor to oversee and coordinate extensive repairs to 14 year old home. Job included: New Deck with storage shed underneath and storm door from house, Replace interior door from garage, new vinyl sliding door, spot lights for three paintings, coordination of painting contractor for main level (about 1600 sq. ft.), coordination of flooring replacement in same area. (We wanted 100 sq ft of silestone kitchen counters added to the project but got tired (no progress in two months) so we are seeking another supplier for that.

After some phone tag, Trey came out to give an estimate. He was on time and very personable. He indicated that he couldn't give me an estimate onsite and needed to send me one via email that evening or the next day. He told me that he was very flexible on payment options and that they don't outsource their work. He indicated that he would have one person work on it for 2 weeks. After 2 days when the estimate hadn't arrived, I emailed him and he sent me one in a few hours. However, it indicated that after investigation it was going to be considerably more than he had originally thought and gave me a ball park estimate for labor (and construction supplies like wood, nails, drywall, hardyboard, wires, plumbing) that was 50% higher than my lowest labor *and* materials estimate and more than twice as much as my lowest labor only estimate (which also included construction supplies). Needless to say, we went w/ someones else.
Description of Work: We had a 7x5.5 ft basement bathroom that had been demolished for some waterproofing work and needed someone to rebuild it. This included framing and drywall on 2 or 3 walls, tile work on floor and shower above shower pan, tying in to existing water lines an drain, installing customer purchased shower pan and stall doors, toilet and vanity, countertop and misc lighting, trim etc.

WHEN A PERSON CALLS CASE WITH A REMODELING NEED WE SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TIME (NOT A “WINDOW”) AT WHICH WE MEET THE CLIENT. WE TRY TO BE FLEXIBLE TO ACCOMMODATE THE CLIENTS’ SCHEDULES. UNLESS THERE IS A REQUEST FOR A CHANGE OF APPOINTMENT TIME THERE REALLY SHOULD NOT BE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR “PHONE TAG”. AT THE FIRST MEETING WE TRY VERY HARD TO GIVE OUR CLIENTS SOME IDEA OF WHAT THE PROJECT WILL COST. WE CONSIDER THE VARIABLES AND “UNKNOWNS” IN THE PROJECT TO DO THIS. ULTIMATELY WE UTILIZE A DETAILED ESTIMATING SYSTEM THAT WE DEVELOPED BASED ON OUR 45 YEARS OF HISTORY AND EXPERIENCE. THIS TAKES THE GUESSWORK OUT OF ESTIMATING SO THAT WE ARE ABLE TO PROVIDE A FINAL FIXED PRICE FOR THE PROJECT. THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT THE HOMEOWNER CAN DO TO ADJUST THAT PRICE INCLUDING PRODUCT SELECTIONS, ADJUSTING SCOPE OF WORK, OR PLAYING SOME ROLE IN THE PROJECT SUCH AS PROVIDING SOME OF THE MATERIALS OR DOING THE PAINTING THEMSELVES. WE DO TRY TO ACCOMMODATE THE HOMEOWNER WHEN POSSIBLE. WE AT CASE DESIGN/REMODELING, INC. DO NOT MARKET OURSELVES AS A “COST-SAVING SOLUTION” TO YOUR REMODELING NEEDS. WE BRING SAFETY (IN HOUSE, DRUG-TESTED, BACKGROUND CHECKED CRAFTSMEN), STABILITY (45 YEARS OF REMODELING EXPERIENCE), AND PEACE OF MIND (PROJECT MANAGERS OVERSEEING YOUR PROJECT FROM BEGINNING TO END).

They were very helpful on the phone, the estimator was great; professional, helpful. It required a good deal of follow-up after the estimator had arrive to get an actual estimate, and the estimate was very, very high - basically they took my maximum amount (which I never should have mentioned) and said that was the total estimate. When I asked for a breakdown, they gave me two lines: labor and supplies (which was odd, considering that I was buying everything myself). So, if you have them come out, be very clear about what you want in the estimate (although I was told initially that it would be itemized).

OUR ESTIMATING SYSTEM HAS BEEN DEVELOPED AS A RESULT OF 45 YEARS OF REMODELING EXPERIENCE. WE RELY ON THIS SYSTEM TO GIVE OUR CLIENTS PEACE OF MIND THAT THEIR ESTIMATE IS NOT A REFLECTION ON WHERE THEY LIVE, WHAT THEY SAY (AS FAR AS THEIR BUDGET), OR HOW THE SALESPERSON OR DESIGNER “FEELS” THAT DAY. IT CREATES A PRICING STRUCTURE THAT IS FAIR AND CONSISTENT. A BREAKDOWN OF LABOR AND MATERIALS IS ONE WAY TO BREAK DOWN THE PRICING. ALTHOUGH OUR CLIENTS MAY PROVIDE SOME OF THE MATERIALS FOR A PROJECT, WE RARELY ASK THEM TO PICK UP SHEETS OF DRYWALL, PLYWOOD SUB-FLOORING, CAULK, GROUT, TRIM, AND THE OTHER MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS THAT ARE NEEDED TO COMPLETE A REMODELING PROJECT. ULTIMATELY CASE DESIGN/REMODELING, INC. DOES NOT MARKET OURSELVES AS A “COST-SAVING SOLUTION” TO YOUR REMODELING NEEDS. WE BRING SAFETY (IN HOUSE, DRUG-TESTED, BACKGROUND CHECKED CRAFTSMEN), STABILITY (45 YEARS OF REMODELING EXPERIENCE), AND PEACE OF MIND (PROJECT MANAGERS OVERSEEING YOUR PROJECT FROM BEGINNING TO END) TO YOU, OUR CLIENTS.

Based on the very high rating in Angie's List, I contacted Case for an estimate on remodeling my bathroom. The scheduling person was quite helpful and professional, and the company was very accommodating when I needed to change the appointment almost at the last minute. The gentleman who came out to give me the estimate also was professional and responsive in answering my questions. He took all the measurements and other necessary notes about what I wanted, and promised that he'd send me an estimate three days later. When I heard nothing back after five days I called him. And then I e-mailed him. And I never heard anything. That was over a month ago. I'm very disappointed. I don't have time to keep chasing people and a company that has received such high marks should not need to be chased.
Description of Work: As you'll read, the company never did any work for me because they failed to provide me with the promised estimate after coming to my home to discuss what I wanted and to take measurements.

CASE DESIGN/REMODELING, INC. PUTS COMMUNICATION HIGH ON THE LIST OF PRIORITIES. WE STRIVE TO MAINTAIN OPEN CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION THROUGHOUT OUR PROCESS. ALL OF OUR OFFICE EMPLOYEES HAVE CELL PHONES, VOICE MAIL, AND E-MAIL. ALL OF OUR CRAFTSMEN AND PROJECT MANAGERS ARE EQUIPPED WITH CELL PHONES AS WELL. WE ALSO HAVE A 24-HOUR EMERGENCY NUMBER FOR ANY POSSIBLE SITUATION THAT COULD ARISE DURING THE COURSE OF A REMODELING PROJECT. WITHOUT PROPER COMMUNICATION FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END OF A REMODELING PROJECT WE CAN ONLY COUNT ON PROBLEMS. Work done very well. The quote was a rip-off. They quoted me (I think) $90/hr with an estimate of $1800 (approximate.) It took them about 12-person hours BUT charged $1800. Although Case promised a lot, they were nowhere close to delivering on those promises. I was told that they would be dedicated to my job until completion which could not have been further from the truth, as their workers disappeared for days on end. Their design was problematic, but it was not evident until the sunroom foundation was laid, at which time it became evident. Unfortunately because their design drawings did not show all structures that would be attached to the new sunroom (like the existing deck!), the design flaw was not evident from their (incomplete) plans. Their response was ''well you signed off on the plans''. Then it took 2 months to resolve who would pay for the design flaw (I had to get an attorney before they would even consider splitting the cost with me, which they finally did). Their coordination with their subs was awful and my husband basically served as the contractor. Their attention to detail was also not good.

AS A RESPECTED LEADER IN THE REMODELING INDUSTRY FOR 45 YEARS CASE DESIGN/REMODELING, INC. DOES OFFER OUR CLIENTS A LOT WHEN IT COMES TO REMODELING THEIR HOMES. WE WORKED WITH THIS MEMBER FOR OVER 5 MONTHS DESIGNING THE PROJECT WITH HER INPUT AT EACH STEP OF THE WAY. WE SPECIFICALLY WENT THROUGH A NUMBER OF STEPS AND MANY MEETINGS TO ENSURE EVERYONE WAS ON THE SAME PAGE REGARDING DESIGN, MATERIAL SELECTIONS, ESTIMATING, AND SCHEDULE. WE PRESENTED PRELIMINARY PLANS PRIOR TO FINAL PLANS SO OUR CLIENT HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW AND/OR AMEND THE PROJECT BEFORE WE ENTER THE CONSTRUCTION STAGE. WE HAD SEVERAL AMENDED PRELIMINARY PLANS IN THIS CASE. WE DID NOT INCLUDE THE DECK ON THE PLANS BECAUSE WE WERE NOT MODIFYING THE DECK IN ANY WAY AS A RESULT OF THE FINAL DESIGN AND BECAUSE THIS EXISTING DECK WAS NEVER PERMITTED WHEN IT WAS CONSTRUCTED. WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT DID NOT CREATE AN ISSUE WITH US PERMITTING THE CURRENT PROJECT. IN A LARGER PROJECT SUCH AS THIS, IT IS NOT UNCOMMON TO HAVE SOME “DOWN TIME” WAITING FOR CERTAIN TRADES AND OR INSPECTORS TO SHOW UP. WE TRY TO MINIMIZE THESE WITH PRE-SCHEDULING THEM WHERE WE CAN. WE DO HAVE A DEDICATED TEAM OF CRAFTSMEN AND PROJECT MANAGERS ASSIGNED TO EACH PROJECT WHO’S GOAL IS TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT AS EFFICIENTLY AS POSSIBLE KEEPING QUALITY IN MIND AT ALL TIMES. IN SPITE OF “CHALLENGES” WE FACED DURING THE COURSE OF CONSTRUCTION WE SAW THIS PROJECT TO THE END AND THAT END RESULT IS A BEAUTIFUL KITCHEN AND SUNROOM.

A representative came to our house, looked over the work we have and after nearly three weeks of waiting gave us a bid that was 100% higher than our upper limit. We asked him to let us know what we could get for the money that we have, we were upfront about the funds we had available. We are anxious to get started with our work, and understand that it may be more expensive than we imagine. Again, we specifically asked, what can we do with the money we have? No answer to this question was given. We are serious about getting some work done, but Case did not seem serious about helping us.

Didn't do the work. Sent a very friendly gentleman to visit the house and they seemed quite open to doing the work but then he seemed to disappear without giving an estimate. WE APPRECIATE THE MEMBER'S FEEDBACK. WHEN WE RECEIVE AN INQUIRY FROM A CLIENT, A REMODELING CONSULTANT IS SENT OUT TO THE CLIENT'S HOME TO ACT AS AN ADVISOR/EXPERT. ONCE THE SCOPE OF THE WORK IS IDENTIFIED, A PRELIMINARY BUDGET IS PROPOSED AND IF AGREED UPON WITH THE CLIENT THEN A PROPOSAL IS PRESENTED. CASE DOES NOT PRESENT AN ESTIMATE UNLESS THE BUDGET PRESENTED HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE CLIENT.

The entire experience was very positive, from estimate and work plan, blueprint with the representative (Jim Crenca), to the team including manager and the workers, especially the main guy, Steve. He was great! They only subcontracted out the drywall work and the flooring, to entities whom they work with regularly. We have been very happy with their timeliness and quality.

The handyman worked VERY slowly, and at the price of $80/hour we were very unhappy. It cost 1400 to paint a medium sized bedroom (no wall repair or inset bookshelves, just walls) and after 3 days he was still not done all of the things we had hoped to ask him to do (such as install a cieling fan). The paint job is ok, its adequate, but certainly not worth the time and expense.
Description of Work: Painting, taking down and re-installing 4 shelves, taking down and painting 2 folding closet doors

Response from Case Design Remodeling Inc
THE MEMBER CONTACTED CASE REGARDING INTERIOR PAINTING (BEDROOM, CLOSET AND TRIM). THE HOME REPAIR SPECIALIST HAD TO WORK AROUND THE FURNITURE WHICH WAS PLACED IN THE CENTER OF THE ROOM. MULTIPLE COATS HAD TO BE APPLIED DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE CHANGE IN THE COLOR. THE MEMBER WAS INFORMED DAILY OF THE JOB PROGRESS. THE HOME REPAIR SPECIALIST MADE EVERY EFFORT IN ORDER FOR THE JOB TO BE DONE WELL. ONCE THE MEMBER RAISED CONCERNS ABOUT THE OVERALL COST OF THE JOB, THE SUPERVISOR CREDITED BACK 2 HOURS OF HANDYMAN SERVICES IN AN EFFORT TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE.
