I have been very pleased. I am still dealing with the designer. I haven't met anybody that is doing the work. We trade information via email which is helpful. I also have a cell phone number so communication is not at all a problem. ($21,000.00)

You pay for what you get. It is pricey. But the work is extremely good and very worth it. They worked very quickly and efficiently. I would recommend them to others. The workers were very friendly. They have a supervisor and then two people to perform specific chores.

The quality of the work was very good. They give quotes of work by how many hours they think it will take. The job unfortunately took 4 hours more than estimated, but part of that was because they had to travel a distance to go get materials. The handyman called me throughout the day to keep me updated on the progress. I would use Case again.

Leak stains appeared on the baseboards after the first heavy rain after the work was completed by Case. They came out several times and eventually the leaks were isolated to one corner of the sunroom. The original estimator came out to see if he could determine the source of the continuing leaks. The identified source had nothing to do with the windows but was a piece of siding that wasn't installed properly. The estimate to fix this new source was $2,121.07 even though the original job's sole purpose was to fix the leaks (whatever the source). It has been many months since this has been taking place and I feel like I am boxed in a corner. I am trying to negotiate a fairer price. If I try to get someone else to fix the problem I will be starting from scratch. I feel like a captive in a money pit and there is no way out. I even feel I have to give them some other work to offer an incentive to fix the first problem. I know it is crazy but I don't know what else to do. The only other thing I want to make clear is that there workers are actually highly qualified, seem to care about their work, and are very competent. It is the general poor management structure that is the issue, their unwillingness to stand by their work, and their seemingly inability to determine the real source of a problem in the first place.
Description of Work: My sunroom was leaking; allowing rain to get in. The visible effects were that the wallboards/baseboards were stained; the water was entering within the walls underneath the windows. The Case Design estimator stated that the windows weren't installed properly to allow for drainage. One window was definitely considered the problem and the first estimate was about $4,500 but it was suggested that the second window should also be done for another $2,000.00. They took out both sunroom windows, changed the window setting to allow better drainage and re-installed the original windows.

A Case representative visited our home in mid-March 2008 and provided a ballpark estimate for remodeling a room, adding two decks, electrical and plumbing work, and installing heat and air conditioning. His on the spot estimate was between $65,000 and $106,000. Given the very broad range, the representative promised to send a more detailed estimate within a week. The detailed estimate never arrived. About a week later, a Case customer service representative called our home to ask if we were still interested in having the work done. We indicated that we had not yet selected a contractor but were waiting for receipt of the detailed estimate from Case. Still no follow-up from the representative/estimator. Later that week, I called the Case Representative who had visited the home and left a voice mail message requesting the estimate. It is now six weeks later, the Case estimate has never arrived and we have signed a contact with another company found through Angie's List. We are surprised and disappointed by the lack of follow-up on the part of Case.
Description of Work: No services performed, because company never followed-up after initial consultation and ballpark estimate.

Our initial plan and estimate were done by Charles, and he kept in touch with us throughout the project. All of the Case staff were very professional, friendly and tidy. They showed up on time for every scheduled appointment or work session, and were willing to work with our schedule. The solid surface shower walls were a special order, because we wanted them to extend from the shower base all the way to the ceiling, so the start date was somewhat later than we expected. Charles did keep us informed of progress, and did not start the project until the materials had arrived. On the first day (Monday), Chris (our team lead), started by putting down plastic to protect my carpets. Then, he took out the existing walls, tub, and flooring. The toilet had been badly installed by the previous remodeling contractors, and the sub-floor had been damaged by a leak. Chris cut out the rotted floorboard and replaced it as part of the project. On Tuesday, James installed the plumbing and sink faucets, and Chris reinforced the walls. On Wednesday, the shower base was installed, and Durock backing for the solid surface walls. Thursday, Chris plastered the walls abutting the new shower, and the Terestone shower walls were delivered. The Terestone was installed on Friday. There was some trouble getting the large piece for the back wall in place. It was 5 by 8 feet, and the room is only five feet wide, so turning it from horizontal to vertical was a big challenge. They finally got it, but had to remove all light fixtures, towel bars, and curtain rods to get it to fit. The initial time projected for the remodeling was a week, but there was a little slippage. The next Monday through Wednesday, the fan/light, flooring, and baseboards were installed, and all the little nicks and bumps in the bathroom walls and ceilings were repaired. All was completed except the sliding glass shower doors, which were out of stock, and did not arrive until the end of the following week. Those were finally installed on the following Wednesday. That could have been done earlier, but Wednesday fit my schedule best. Painting was not included. We did that ourselves.
Description of Work: We had our bath remodeled. The main feature was a tub to shower conversion. We had a history of trouble with the tiles and grout, and consequently wanted a solid surface shower. After researching available products, we decided that we liked Terestone the best. We chose Case Design/Remodeling because they had experience with this product. We also had new shower faucet hardware, sink faucets, new fan/light, and new flooring installed.

Very good, overall. The workmen, Brian and Omar, were punctual, professional, courteous, hardworking. A very good experience overall. They offered helpful suggestions and ideas, without upselling. Omar did an excellent, meticulous job with the painting. The room looks brand new. Will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Fixed various problems in a bathroom, including finding and fixing a leak, installing new vent fan, drywall repair, and painting of entire room. Between the handyman work and the painting (which included a somewhat rusted old tin ceiling), work took 3 1/2 days.

The first contact person was responsive, made appointments quickly, and did exactly what was promised. When construction started, a foreman came to walk through, and to be sure that he understood the job. The actual tradesmen were neat and skilled. All work areas were properly cleaned at the end of each day, and the impact on our living areas was minimal. The job was completed satisfactorily, and the problems that we did have were quickly and properly addressed. The payment plan was properly structured to ensure that we never were in the position where the contractor had nothing invested.

We used a different company [see above].
Description of Work: We called Case for an estimate to remove an old backyard deck and replace it with a new one of trex. The Case estimate was exactly double the amount of the estimate from the company [Nova Exteriors] that we finally used. Nova did a great job; Case seemed totaled unsurprised and uninterested to learn that its estimate was not at all competitive.

ON JULY 27, 2006 OUR CONSULTANT HAD AND APPOINTMENT TO MEET WITH THIS CLIENT AND PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT HE HAD AN INTRODUCTORY PHONE CONVERSATION WITH HIS WIFE ABOUT THEIR PROJECT PLANS. THE INTRODUCTION ON THE DATE OF THE APPOINTMENT WAS PROFESSIONAL BETWEEN BOTH PARTIES. THE APPOINTMENT WAS WITH THE WIFE, OUR CONSULTANT NEVER MET WITH THE MEMBER. THE TOUR OF THE PROJECT WAS VERY EXTENSIVE AND CONSISTED OF SEVERAL ITEMS INCLUDING; INSTALLING FLAGSTONE, POWER WASHING, NEW DECK, OPTION TO UPGRADE THE MASTER BATHROOM AND TO REPLACE SOME DOORS. THE CLIENT WAS GIVEN BUDGET RANGES FOR ALL ITEMS, NOT A SET PRICE. OUR CONSULTANT WAS COMPLIMENTED BY THE CLIENT ON HIS EXTENSIVE REMODELING KNOWLEDGE, BUT IN FUTURE CONVERSATIONS SHE WAS NOT PLEASED WITH THE BUDGET. OUR CONSULTANT OFFERED TO PHASE THE JOBS OR TO HIRE OUR COMPANY ON A SMALLER SCALE TO TEST OUT ABILITY TO PERFORM THE WORK AND CREATE A RELATIONSHIP, THIS NEVER HAPPENED. THIS CLIENT MEETING WAS APPROXIMATELY 20 MONTHS AGO AND THE MEMBER NEVER DIRECTLY SPOKE WITH OUR CONSULTANT. CASE STRIVES TO CREATE "CLIENTS FOR LIFE" IF THERE IS EVER A CONCERN OR QUESTION ABOUT ANY PHASE OF A PROJECT OR ESTIMATE PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT US.

It went well. On the electrical, the work was excellent. One disappointment was that the electrician showed up to run a 220 circuit without any 220 wire in his truck. He charged us one hour labor for running to Home Depot to pick up the supplies. Seems silly considering I explained the job to the estimator pretty clearly. On the venting, the work was complicated, and the handyman tackled it just the right way. It would have been nicer-looking to drill out beams and such to hide the venting, but he warned us against that for structural reasons. He explained everything he was doing and advised us of the options along the way. Ultimately, the work came out beautifully. He trimmed out the box in our hallway to match the existing molding and even made a wooden top for the box that is a nice key drop at the doorway. So, work was wonderful, but not cheap.
Description of Work: Two services - electrical to run a 220 volt circuit, and one service to put in an exterior dryer vent. Electrical was straightforward, run the wire and mount the plug. Venting was more complicated - had to run venting through one interior wall, along a bathroom ceiling, through the ceiling to the next level and then through the exterior wall made of cinder and brick. Because of the design of the interior ceiling and exterior wall, all venting had to be run outside existing drywall, and handyman had to build drywall box facades to cover venting.

I've got 2 versions of contract for the same scope of out project. Initial was on 9/17/07 for $14,932.44. When I asked to include more details in description and get plumber job by licensed plumber if needed, to meet city requirements, price went up to $16,876.64. Our project with CASE was correction and finishing kitchen remodeling started by another contractor. As you can guess, my wife and I were exhausted by "never ending battle with contractors" before calling CASE. I ended up with $16,876.64 plus about $315 extra. I never got money back from CASE despite licensed plumber job and some job in scope description weren't necessary and never done. It would be fair that CASE return difference ($2,259.00) between two prices for the job they never did.
Description of Work: Kitchen: Remove cabinet wrongfully installed, install two new owners provided cabinets over dishwasher and side panel, reinstall cabinets, install all handles for kitchen cabinets, replaced cover of ceiling exhaust fan, reset wrongly installed cabinet, furnish & install impala black granite, furnish & install stainless steel under mount sink, install sink, faucet, & food disposal, install ceramic tile on backsplash. Electrical: Rework electrical (remove all electrical wires wrongly installed inside kitchen cabinets), reset loose microwave outlet box, install new outlets & check old outlets, install new owner provided thermostat. Referring to the comments on the two different proposals being furnished, the clients requested an upgrade to their granite countertop and expressed a desire to have Case supply the tile. Originally, the owner was going to supply the tiles. These two items are directly responsible for the difference in price between the first and the second contract. We disagree with the client's comments in regards to the extra money for licensed plumbers and work never done. It should be noted that the clients had bad experiences with contractors in the past. The clients would not have paid if they were not happy with the work and did not bring up any issues or concerns during or after completion of the project. We would also like to mention that the date mentioned of 9/17/07 should read 9/17/06. Additionally a Case representative contacted the client on 8/8/07 to follow up on their experience. The Case representative documented that the client hung up the phone on him. The fact that our client would air their grievance over a year after the fact with Angie's List is puzzling. We spoke to the member on 12/12/07 and he commented that he was, "very happy with the project, no question." He just feels that he paid too much. The fact that he feels this way a year after the project was completed is quite puzzling. Although, we appreciate the client's comments and respect his opinion, we do not feel that requesting a refund of $2,259.00 for a project that the client was happy with is war

Our representative was very prompt and professional with the estimate. After we purchased all the materials work started on time. My husband and I have very demanding jobs and project management was one of the important features we signed up for. However we ended up doing more of it ourselves since the project manager was not that attentive to the project. The communication between the subs and the project manager was really poor. We were promised to have the place cleaned up and special attention to protection of existing flooring and dust protection since I was in my third trimester of pregnancy and we ended up going to a hotel from the dust, the new carpet has been stained. The estimate for tile was off and not allot of care was taken in matching up tiles in color depth and hue. The project ended up taking 3 weeks longer. Some of the delays we were responsible for, however I did not see the PM going out of his way to complete earlier. Regardless I will still work with Case again.

The project went without a hitch. Since we had to move all the furniture out of the living room and into the bedroom, we scheduled the project to coincide with a business trip. Normally when I have contractors in I want to be able to monitor progress, but this time it made more sense to schedule it the way I did. I was nervous that I'd return from my trip to find the project messed up, but that wasn't the case. Everything went quite well and I was able to move back in on the date they promised. I'm very happy with the finished project. They were not the low bidder, but we got good quality for what we paid.

$11,000 in expenses and over $7,000 in legal fees. They forced me to hire an attorney because they refused to talk to me. They refuse all emails and calls and have run up thousands of dollars in legal fees. Case's insurance company and the other 2 subcontractor's companies are all arguing over who is at fault. They have left my house completely damaged and refuse to settle up with me. This is 9 months and counting. If they really cared, they would have resolved the issue. I feel absolutely robbed by this company, and I feel that they are completely unethical in their dealings with me.
Description of Work: Hired to replace the wood around the dishwasher that had flooded as well as sand the other hard wood floor to match the rest of the house wood work & 1 stairway. The 1st time that I came home there were several scratches from the sub-z in the new wood. The crew that was hired told me that they couldn't perform the job from the beginning; however Case had them to complete work not to my satisfaction, & then it was in writing that this company wouldn't come back. However Case had them come back against what was promised in writing to me. And select floor also did the staining which looks terrible. My floors were sanded down to the raw wood, by case handymen direction with using sub-standard companies, the work was completely unacceptable. They also smashed the kitchen cabinets, & dented the sub-z panels. They have been unresponsive to resolving the issues & haven't reimbursed for the expenses that have caused. Now I have to move out a 3rd time, rent pods, & board my animal.

It started out poorly and went downhill from there. I had to pester and supervise the demolition to get it done per the contract. The windows were installed unevenly and were never fixed properly. Finishing work on the molding was poor. The new doors were absolutely butchered to the point they had to buy new ones and start over. When I had questions about detailed finishing work, the constant refrain was "that's the job of the painter" -- not the answer I was looking for. It started out poorly and went downhill from there. Response from Case Design Remodeling Inc
WE APPRECIATE THIS MEMBER’S COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK. THIS HOME IS A 50 YEAR OLD PLUS RAMBLER, WITH PREVIOUS WATER PROBLEMS IN THE BASEMENT. THE DEMOLITION WENT AS WELL AS EXPECTED WITH A HOME OF THIS AGE. THE EXISTING MASONRY WINDOW OPENINGS ARE NOT LEVEL, PLUM, OR SQUARE. THE UNEVENNESS ON ONE OF THE WINDOWS WAS 1/8TH OF AN INCH. WE OFFERED TO ADJUST IT BUT THE CLIENT DECLINED. THE PICTURE WINDOW WAS GLAZED WITH A BOW, HOWEVER THE SUPPLIER RE-GLAZED IT. THERE WE ISSUES WITH SOME OF THE FINISH WORK PERFORMED BY ONE OF OUR CARPENTERS. CASE DID REPAIR AND REPLACE ANY PROBLEM ITEMS. WHEN A PROFESSIONAL PAINTER DOES A PROJECT, THEY CAULK, FILL HOLES AND POINT UP MINOR DRYWALL BLEMISHES, HOMEOWNERS TEND TO STRUGGLE WITH STANDARD PREP WORK. IN THE END CASE DELIVERED A GOOD PRODUCT. WE DEEPLY REGRET ANY PERCEIVED NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE ANYONE HAS WITH OUR ORGANIZATION.

Everything went well. Called to set up the appointment and was explained how they operate (i.e. how the work was performed, financial, etc...) Within two days received a call back from the project manager who listened to my problems and said he had just the guy for the job, Herman. And, better yet, Herman would be able to do the project in one day, within the next week. Today was that day, and Herman showed up right at the scheduled time of 8:00. He asked me what the problems were, listened as I explained them and then told me what he would be able to do. He explained the limitations and benefits of what he would be able to do in a clear manner, then went about doing it. When all was said and done it looked great and hopefully will not have any future leakage problems.
Description of Work: Had minor interior water damage around the bottom corners of a few windows around our house as well as a bannister falling out of its moorings. Had the damage assessed to endure no mold/mildew issues, which there were none. So they repaired the damaged areas on the inside and then recaulked and sealed the windows from the outside. Also rehung the bannister using a more supportive method.
