Other than finishing up, the experience was generally positive - we do have a lovely new master bath. They are expensive, but the work was good and almost as importantly, we trusted them in our house. The designer should have caught the need for storage space above the new closets (they were there in the old closets) at the design phase rather than our figuring it out after the work was substantially completed. The project manager didn't do anything about the inspector's requirement that the window be replaced with tempered glass until the walk through - though he'd known about it for months - adding to delay in finishing the project. The amount of time it took to do the small punch list after the walk through was unacceptable - we got the feeling that since they had our money and were mostly done, they stopped caring about us and the project. The gentleman who did most of the work was extraordinary - on time/early everyday, but the company clearly doesn't allocate sufficient time in scheduling for follow-up/punch lists. If you decide to use Case, I would strongly recommend that you require them to have the necessary workers available to complete the punch list ... Renovations are a pain to live through and not being able to close out the experience for months (yes, months) is an unnecessary insult to injury.
Description of Work: Gutted two adjoining baths and created new master bath, powder room, and two closets.

They charged me $283 to give me an estimate that I never received. They also never gave me the model number so I order the skylight. They sent someone out who had fear about going onto the roof. I tried to call them at least 10 times, but I never got a response.

These guys were a hoot. Great sense of humor but very professional. Excellent work, once you get over the sticker shock. I am willing to pay more to get a job done right and with little disruption, but their pricing does make you think they don't really want to do your job. Nevertheless because I have used them before and having someone you trust in your home for several weeks can be a real pain, I went with them because I knew they would make it as painless as a renovation can be.

They had a good connection to suppliers. There was a problem with the shower faucet and they did come back and recommended that we try to fix on our own in the future. They didn't pay close attentions to some of the details and that is why I wouldn't hire them again.

Regarding the estimate, it went pretty well up until Mr. Bob Black started banging on the vent ducts above the kitchen cabinets. The kitchen clock which had been located there for over a year fell onto our glass stove top and broke the glass top completely through from front to end. Thank goodness the burners still work. I called to speak with Mr. Black's supervisor, a Mr. Odette regarding the incident. After telling Mr. Odette about the broken glass top the answer I received was that it must have been a short nail holding up the clock to have it come lose from knocking on the vent area. Mr. Odette didn't seem interested in taking ownus for the broken stove top but did say that if we chose Case Design that he would see that we received a "good deal" on the stove top appliance. Regardless of the length of the nail holding up the Clock it had done pretty well located above the cabinets until the knocking on the vents took place. That was the reason it fell, Mr. Bob Black was present when it fell no one was injured thank goodness but I still feel that Case Design should have replaced the stove top or given some sort of compensation for breaking the glass top.

WE STRIVE FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION THROUGHOUT OUR PROCESS, FROM THE VERY FIRST PHONE CALL THROUGH CONSTRUCTION AND BEYOND. WE ALSO ARE VERY WILLING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR ACTIONS. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE MEMBER ABOUT THE UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT, SHE WANTED TO CONVEY TO US TWO CONCERNS, “TO CAUTION US FOR FUTURE APPOINTMENTS SO THIS DOESN’T OCCUR AGAIN” AND “TO POINT OUT THAT GRATEFULLY NO-ONE WAS HURT”. SHE SAID THAT THE COOK-TOP WAS WORKING FINE AND THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE REPLACED ANYWAY IN THE COURSE OF REMODELING HER KITCHEN, NEVER INDICATING A REQUEST FOR ANY TYPE OF REIMBURSEMENT. IT WAS POINTED OUT TO HER THAT WE HAVE VERY GOOD RELATIONSHIPS WITH AREA APPLIANCE DISTRIBUTORS WHO WE COULD TAP INTO FOR SPECIAL PRICING ON HER APPLIANCES. WE ARE HERE TO DISCUSS THE MATTER AND WOULD BE GLAD TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION.

We didn't really care for them. They sent an amateur do the tile. We were satisfied with the handyman services they offer, but didn't care for the remodeling service. A seven year old could have done better grouting then he did. They smeared the grout. They did not compensate for the imperfection of the tile which is crooked, they blamed the builders of the house. They sealed the door but it still leaks, they did what they said they would but obviously didn't diagnose the problem correctly.
Description of Work: They re-did the tile in our bathroom and finished the basement and refinished the seals on front and back door.

Dave was a thorough professional and very courteous. We really liked his attention to detail. All the tasks mentioned above took about 20 man hours to complete and he cleaned up well after the job was completed. On the downside, we waited a long time to schedule both the estimate visit and the actual job. Tom and Todd dropped in time to time to supervise the work.
Description of Work: A)Remove damaged drywall around the tub surround in the basement bathroom. Inspect the plumbing for any potential problems. Replace the drywall with tile substrate and install a white ceramic tile to the area surrounding the tub surround. (Approximately four inches of tile border). B)Replace the damaged front railing baluster and lower the column base on the left side support column and re-caulk. C)Cut and router an arch top into the newly installed bookshelves. D)Replace the aluminum wrap on the left side rake board that was blown off during the storm. E)Patch concrete floor at closet in the basement. F)Re-install the existing shutters that fell during the storm.

This company explained their pricing to me and set a date to come out when I called. When they came out there was two guys instead of one, so I was being charged double than what I expected. I never received the quote in email, so I had no proof of what I was originally quoted. The workers themselves were great and professional and did a good job. They are hard to get a hold of after five PM, and once they finished the door the key did not work and I ended up having to climb in the window. Overall it was not the greatest experience based on their poor communication. He told me that he had sent me an email agreement, which he hadn't. If you end up using this company don't go forward with the work until you have a written quote or agreement.

I had to call 3 times before a rep contacted me, and then, only after I complained to the manager. The rep came out, and asked another rep to come and assess the problem further. After about a month, I received an estimate -- again, only after I called to ask where the estimate was. I received an estimate that was beyond ridiculous. They wanted $562. for caulking my 2 balconies, which measures about 4'x1' each. They wanted another $500. to repair/weld leaks in the copper pan they installed in 2003 -- the pan that was supposed to "last 30 years." I will never contact them again.
Description of Work: Case worked on water problems on my balcony in 2003. It leaked in 2008. I asked them to come back and estimate a repair.

WE APPRECIATE THIS MEMBER'S COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK REGARDING THEIR EXPERIENCE. AT CASE, WE UNDERSTAND THAT OUR CLIENTS' NEEDS HAVE TOP PRIORITY AND FEEL THAT IT IS NECESSARY TO RESPOND TO THEIR REQUESTS IN A TIMELY MANNER. WE ALSO BELIEVE IN DELIVERING QUALITY WORK AT EVERY LEVEL. THROUGH SEVERAL CONVERSATIONS THAT WE HAD WITH THIS CLIENT, WE OFFERED GOOD ADVICE IN MAKING THE NECESSARY REPAIRS, WHICH WE FELT WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUES. WE HAD TO DO THE NECESSARY INSPECTION AND PRICE OUT THE WORK ACCORDINGLY. WE ARE SORRY IF WE DID NOT MEET THIS CLIENT'S EXPECTATION WITHIN THE DESIRED TIME FRAME AS WELL AS THE BUDGET THEY HAD IN MIND FOR THIS PROJECT. IF THIS CLIENT WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS THIS FURTHER TO COME UP WITH A REASONABLE SOLUTION WE ARE READY.

They would not commit to a time frame for completed work, or a fixed price for each job. This way it could be finished on their time which took forever. We contacted them to do some repairs around the house,i.e. toilet running, garage door not closing, and needed painting and bathtub repairs.
Description of Work: We used Case for their Handyman services. The toilet was not fixed properly (we still has to jiggle the handle to get it to stop running) and the garage door was not fixed. The job took 3 days, and should have taken about a day and a half.(you could tell he was paid by the hour) They are very costly, and not worth the time or price.

Overall, the project went very well. Omar from Case Design did an excellent job from start to finish. He was prompt, professional, skillful, and full of ideas. He offered a few ways for me to save money on the project and left me with advice on how to prime and paint the wall after he had left.

The estimator asked me for a $500 check before he would work up a quote for the project as a whole. I've never before, in 7 years of remodeling projects across 3 states, been asked for money to get a bid. So I tried to cut the project down to it's simplest first step, replacing a single ceiling beam, I and met resistance from the company. After numerous phone calls from them trying to convince me not to reduce the size of the project and even trying to push me into signing a contract to start the work before receiving a price quote, I tried to call another Case office (in VA) and found out that all calls to all locations in the metro area just get routed back to the Bethesda office, which is the office I was having trouble with. So, after a week of trying, I had to give up on using Case for any work at all.
Description of Work: I tried to get a quote from them for remodeling 2 baths and replacing one structural beam in my house. When I couldn't get a quote for all of that, I tried getting a quote just for the beam. They insisted that I pay them $500 before they would quote me a price for any job, even the little one, unless I agreed on the spot to let them start work next week (without having received a price quote).

IN ANY PROJECT, NO MATTER THE SIZE, WE HAVE A PROCESS WE FOLLOW WHICH HAS PROVEN OVER THE YEARS TO BE BENEFICIAL TO ALL PARTIES INVOLVED. BY FOLLOWING OUR PROCESS WE ARE ABLE TO ENTER INTO A PROJECT WITH ALL QUESTIONS ANSWERED AND ALL DETAILS ADDRESSED. THE ABSOLUTE LAST THING WE WANT TO DO IS START A PROJECT BEFORE THIS IS DONE. THE CLEARER THE INFORMATION UP FRONT, THE GREATER THE CHANCE FOR A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT AND, IN TURN, A DELIGHTED CLIENT. THE DEPOSIT WE WERE REQUIRING FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROJECT WAS TO SECURE AN ENGINEER TO SPEC THE STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS NECESSARY TO ADDRESS THE LOAD-BEARING BEAM THE CLIENT WISHED TO HAVE REMOVED. WE NEEDED THIS INFORMATION TO PROPERLY SPEC AND PRICE THE WORK AND EXPLAINED TO THE CLIENT WE WOULD CREDIT THIS DEPOSIT TO THE PROJECT IF SHE PROCEEDED WITH THE WORK WITH US. WE ARE A FULL-SERVICE REMODELING COMPANY. WE DO PROJECTS FROM TWO-HUNDRED DOLLARS TO ONE MILLION DOLLARS AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN. WE HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS (SINCE 1961) AND HAVE HELPED THOUSANDS OF CLIENTS NO MATTER THE SIZE OF THE PROJECT. OFTEN WE ARE THE ONES SHOWING CLIENTS HOW THEY CAN ACHIEVE THEIR REMODELING GOALS BY SCALING THE PROJECT BACK NOT INCREASING THE SCOPE OF WORK. IN THIS CASE, IT SOUNDS LIKE COMMUNICATION BROKE DOWN BETWEEN ALL INVOLVED AND WE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THAT. IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO COMMUNICATE, NOT OTHERS’ TO UNDERSTAND.

Very punctual, courteous, and professional. They did an excellent job, and I am very happy with the result. Caution, these guys are not cheap. Time flies when you're paying $100/hr. But I am very happy with the finished product (you get what you pay for), and I would certainly use them again.
Description of Work: I wanted a "widow's walk" railing replaced on my porch roof. I called at 9:00am, had an estimate by noon, and the work was begun by 3:00 that same day. There was much more damage than I had anticipated so the job was much more intensive than I had anticipated, and involved replacing the roof and the pillars.

Overall the project turned out well and the work completed on time. Our bathroom looks pretty good.
Description of Work: We've used Case once before and we were very pleased with the result. The job that they just completed for us included laying tile, removing a large wall mirror, vanity cabinet, sink, and toilet then installing the replacement items, and painting. The person who was sent out to do the work--Jim--is very pleasant, professional, and punctual and we were generally pleased with the work that he did. He went to great lengths to keep our carpet clean and he did a wonderful job removing debris. We're very happy with the work that he did installing the tile. Our only criticism of his work is that he overlooked installing the filler between the wall and the vanity and he forgot to paint the door so we painted it ourselves, however, we would request Jim again. It was difficult to schedule this job with Case. The job was first scheduled with the remodeling section, then on the day that someone was to come out to give us an estimate of the cost we were called and told that someone from the handyman division would take the job instead. It took two weeks before our calls were returned. Had we not had a positive experience with Case prior to this we probably would have hired someone else to do the work rather than to wait two weeks for a return call.

The guy seemed very nice, and I thought that I had found someone that I could use for several different projects that I wanted to work on around the house. We worked on something with cost issues, and he said he would get back to me in about a week, and he never got back to me. Three weeks passed and I finally emailed him and told him that if he didn't want to work with me, just to let me know. He wrote me back and told me that my budget wasn't quite what they could work with because of the things I wanted done, it would have cost three times as much as I could afford. He seemed very reputable, and I was just really disappointed with everything.

Everything went very smoothly. The front and back doors took one day each to be removed and reinstalled, in spite of the surprise discovery of termites in the front foyer subflooring and door frame. The ceiling repair was well done, with stippling blending in nicely with the rest of the ceiling. There was a glitch in the measuring for the full backsplash, causing a delay, but CASE kept us well informed. The Marmoleum flooring took only one day to install, instead of the two that we scheduled, and the special pattern we requested looks great! The carpet edges up against the new flooring were not finished correctly at the time, but the issue was corrected within two weeks.
Description of Work: We had repair work on our front and back entry doors, to remedy a problem with moisture coming in under the doors. The doors were removed and re-installed. The subflooring in the front foyer had to be replaced due to termite damage (surprise!). Also repair to ceiling in the foyer due to previous leak in upstairs bathroom. We replaced the vinyl flooring with Marmoleum Click squares. Replaced Formica countertop with Silestone countertop and full backsplash up to the bottom of the cabinets. Replaced sink, disposer, and faucet.
