Estimates were received several days later than promised. Estimates were more than 200 percent higher than either of the two other estimates I received. Obviously, I did not select this contractor - nor will I in the future.
Description of Work: Requested estimate on (1) repair of existing deck and its attachment to house and (2) repair of deck's attachment to house and complete replacement of existing deck.

Very good. All the work took around 3 days.
Description of Work: I consulted with gentleman from Case Design for some work I had wanted in the home. I chose them because they offered the gamut of serivices which I could foresee myself needing for a 40+ year old home--handyman to more significant carpentry to design/rebuild. The gentleman who came out was very professional and provided itemized cost of requested work. I used Case to complete masory work around my front door, to complete woodwork in my foyer, and to replace all the windows on the main floor w/ energy efficient windows. Case did a very good job. I had wanted them to do some painting in the house but the cost would have been a bit too much for me at the time. They did a good job but are on the expensive side. On the other hand, I appreciate the experience and the fact that everyone was on the same page before the work began.

The company was excellent in their response and their processes, however their price and service level were above the value of my home / neighborhood. They very quickly helped me decide that while an excellent company they were not appropriate for my price range and objectives. They also took the time to address some concerns I had about the structural integrity of my house, given some cracking in the ceiling. If I lived in a more upscale neighborhood I would likely have used Case as they have an excellent process and were honest, direct and helpful in their approach.
Description of Work: I called upon Case Design for an estimate on some remodeling work, including updating my kitchen, making my home more accessible for elderly parents and installing hardwood floors and updated windows.

Very professional service at estimate. Dave was punctual and answered all of my questions. Though I believe the project would have been done beautifully and professionally, I was unable to afford the cost of the remodel estimated by CASE and the length of time they projected to complete the project exceeded my personal timeline to get the job done.

I had to get all kinds of plumbers to have my basement dug up. I don?t know how much permanent damage has been done. What they did was very stupid. I did not have any positive experience with them. I would never use them again in the future. They said they were sorry.
Description of Work: I used Case Design/Remodeling Inc a year ago. I had this dry wall and the flushed the compound down my toilet and to the main line. I have written unfavorably already about them.

We appreciate this client's comments and feedback about her experience. The client mentions that the work was done about a year ago. Our records indicate that we signed a contract with the client on June 2, 2002. This was more than eight years ago. The work was done well. Later the client complained that her toilet was clogged. Even though we were not involved with any plumbing work in her house, we paid for the plumber to clear her drain in an effort to make our client happy. The work was finished to her satisfaction. Since 1961 we have helped thousands of our clients with different types of home repair and remodeling work. Integrity is the foundation of all that we do and we take every client experience and interaction seriously.

They completely did not listen to us. We had gorgeous, but slightly beat up cedar paneling in our basement and we wanted to tear it out and put up drywall. My wife made the mistake of leaking our budget and he came in right at budget. Otherwise, they were professional and got back to us. They brought in an expert who would be doing the foundation portion and I liked that they brought in an expert for an area that wasn't their expertise.

The reason that I recommend CASE is that they can help us with LOTS of Different items...and they will come back, at no charge, if we are not satisfied...We have used the Handyman service almost 20 times...for a variety of jobs, large and small, like today.
Description of Work: Replaced bulbs too high to reach, frontporch, shower, rec room...removed another bulb in a fan that had broken off. Adjusted 4 sets of cupboards to close correctly...and the closing mechanism of another door. Replaced batteries in smoke alarms. Replaced dryer vent hose, and taped shut another hole behind the refrig. Replaced a moulding board at floor level. Helped me put a 9x13 rug under my 4 poster bed and cedar chest. Changed a switchplate to 3 prong, and confirmed that the grounding wiring was good. Checked another receptacle that was loose.

Case Handyman Services is a very professional and customer friendly company. From the moment you call to get an estimate, to the scheduling of the work, and the completion of the work they are easy to deal with. All of their employees are very conscientious and detail oriented. Everyone is very respectful of your home and they do everything they can to minimize disruption to your home. We highly recommend them and will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We have had Case Handyman Services work on our home on two separate occasions over the past three years. They replaced some rotten wood trim and siding on the exterior of our house and painted it to match the existing exterior finishes. They also removed some rotten wood from our attic and replaced it with new wood.

I had a call from the customer relations department of the company and I told them the whole history. The person who I spoke to said, she was a new employee there and put me through to her boss. In a way, the quality of work was very good, execution of work was very bad and interaction was very good. The price was very high. They were not professional, because I didn't get their attention. They completed the work fast. The guy who I dealt with was great but I would not use them in the future.

There was approximately a one month wait to schedule the handyman. On the date the work was scheduled he showed up on time and was very professional. He did a great job of cleaning up after himself and my apartment was clean when I came home at night (after leaving him there to do the work). They billed over 2 full days, plus a "trip" expense and the hourly fees for the meter outside my arlington condo. The drywall patch job was impressive and one would not know there had been a couple of large holes there. The paint job was good. I had not used a professional painter before and was probably expecting perfection compared to what I have painted on my own previously. The paint job was good but not perfect - so I guess it just depends on what your expectations are. I provided the materials and they did the work. I did not think the price was cheap - and its hard to know whether the time of the project (more than 2 full 8 hour days) was reasonable (we did just one coat of paint).
Description of Work: Patched 2 large holes in drywall ceiling and wall (each approximately 2' x 2'), repainted 3 walls of living room (approximately 16 x 11'), and ceiling of living room.

We had several overlapping issues with our basement - last year mold/mildew, then once that was completed, a dishwasher overflow that damaged the same basement areas, followed by continuing humidity/HVAC problems in the house and specifically the basement. In regard to the mold/mildew, Case supervised the remediation of the mold, then did the drywall etc. and it was completed on time/budget and in their usual very clean, no mess fashion. The overflow that followed was similarly quickly/efficiently addressed. We decided in the sp[ring to try to finally address the high humidity basement issues -- again, the project manager spent countless hours off the clock with us on this, bringing in ouhers for assessments and ideas, and together we have made very substantial improvements to this chronic problem. As noted above, we have relied on Case and over the past decade probably spent in excess of $750,000 with them from routine items to major renovations. In all instances, they have performed in a superior manner.
Description of Work: Case has done work for us for 10 years, from minor handyman projects to a major addition and interior remodeling. This project has been ongoing through the spring, summer and fall -- involved upgrades to our HVAC system (performed by Case and their subs), basement humidity control (including insulation), and drywall renovations. We have moved slowly intentionally to determine how best to address these needs, making changes and then waiting to determine effectiveness. At every step the Case project manager was very responsive, coming out multiple times, bringing in outside experts to offer analysis (at no cost to us), and, when we needed to move quickly, their crews were immediately dispatched and the work completed. As in our dozens of past projects large and small with case, their workmen are punctual, very nice, keep the house and repair areas exceptionally clean, and offer thoughtful suggestions that oftentimes end up saving us costs. In this case, as in previous projects, Case brings in appropriate subs and without exception they are superior vendors.

Case sent over more handymen, including a a painter and an electrician. No job was too small. All were friendly, competent and performed the work as if it were their own home. One other thing that impressed me: We asked them to replace the attic vent fan. Instead, they adjusted it and convinced us that we did not need to spend that money. It has been working like a charm since then.
Description of Work: We initially asked for a carpenter to install a new storm door, adjust a door and for a list of several small repairs. We were so impressed, we decided to compile a list of all the work we needed, This inlcuded drywall repair, painting, repalcing the sealant around the base of the tub. The list went on.

While this was not a large addition, (approx. 300 sq. ft.) it did require demolishing the rear perimeter of the home. A steel beam was installed to support addition. A foundation was dug out (a "conditioned crawl space"). Because of soil conditions the foundation depth was greater than what is usually done in creating a crawl space. The additional depth created a great storage space This did add unanticipated cost to the project, but we like having the storage area. As mentioned above, when presented with design ideas, we appreciated the choices, but decided we wanted to stay with our overall concept. The design ideas helped us think through the various possibilities and the Case architect's expertise was excellent & vital. The subcontractors chosen by the Case Project Manager were top flight. Case's Project Manager and Carpenters were stellar. When the subs came in to do their jobs they were supervised by Case's Project Manager and Carpenters every step of the way. We're happily living in our new space and enjoying cooking in a great kitchen.
Description of Work: An addition was added to rear of home. Kitchen was gutted and recreated. It was a long process (homeowner had intervening reasons for some stop & start which occurred in the midst of the work). This company was excellent throughout whole process. We would definitely use them again. We had a very positive experience with them and feel we can trust them. We had an overall picture of what we wanted and in the design process, and we did stay with our ideas even when presented with other possibilities. We were very satisfied with the result.

We were very happy with the design process of the portico. The Case designer made several design changes to give us various looks (number of columns, types of columns, width of the porch, rail types, roof types). We choose our favorite design, and received a full set of builder-ready drawings and cost estimates. We did not complete the kitchen design. We believe, in talking to Case, that our kitchen designer left the firm sometime during the 2009-10 recession. Case returned our design fee. Since the house was listed for sale, we did not contract for another designer, but simply sold the house as is.
Description of Work: We went to a Case seminar, where they convinced us to buy their kitchen design and portico design services. Case designed a beautiful portico for us. We did not complete the kitchen design.

We were excited to use Case due to the good reviews found here. We wanted to replace a standard 40 gallon water tank with an electric tankless water heater in order to put a combo washer/dryer in the same utility closet. The plumbing was already in place for the water heater and the washer dryer hookups were in the same wall, they just needed to be turned around and accessible for the closet. We thought this would be pretty simple and inexpensive, likely the upgraded electrical for needing more power at the water heater was the only expected big expense. Well, after Case gave us a $10k estimate for the work, and I changed my pee-soaked pants from shock, we decided maybe we would just have a basic platform built to hold a lowboy water heater. That way we could have a standard (shorter) water heater and the combo washer/dryer underneath. That estimate was $6500 - $7500, I believe. I changed my pants again. None of this included the cost of the combo/washer we would have to buy. I'm not sure if the quotes included the water heater. We didn't get a print-out. We thanked Case, really, the guy was nice. I called a local carpenter who built a nice platform out of 2x4s & several pieces of thick plywood (cost $300), we paid a plumber to do a standard lowboy water heater hook-up on the platform ($565 + $300 for water heater). Then I just cut a hole in the back of the washer hookup box to take the hoses into the closet for the washer/dryer. So, Case would have been $6,500 minimum and we paid $1,165 by piecing it out among 2 pros and doing a little "finagling" on our own. I understand that they might charge a premium, but that was too much a premium for us. We love our closet now. The 38 gallon lowboy is more than enough water for two and our new LG combo washer/dryer is fantastic!

Response from Case Design Remodeling Inc
We appreciate this member's comments and feedback. Case responded quickly to the client's request. The original estimate for this client included things such as: heavy up, pulling an electrical permit to bring things up to code, installing a sub panel, carpentry, drywall patch, and much more... Based on the review, the client decided to try another solution and we are glad that he is happy with it. Since 1961 we have helped several thousand clients make good decisions for their home improvement and remodeling needs.

Their work was above average, but they were overpriced. The pricing structure wasn?t correct. One of my neighbors had warned me saying that Case Design was overpriced. Their hourly rate wasn?t bad, but their efficiency rate was. They took 10 hours to finish a job that should?ve taken only 5 hours.

This year I had another positive experience with Case Design when they responded to a request to replace my window shutters. The repair person arrived at the time they were expected and completed the job to meet my expectations at the estimated price. The process of communication and task definition with a very polite Case Design project manager left me with a sense that I was speaking to a professional with communication skills & technical expertise. He understood my needs in terms of size, color and style and knew that I needed these new shutters as soon as possible to enhance the curb appear of my home without any damage to surround flower beds & expensive shrubbery that were located very close to the windows where the shutters were to be installed. The Case Design installation person respected my property and did his work professionally in addition to having excellent communication skills. Case Design/Remodeling Inc met my needs and did exactly what I ask them to do with no excuses and no problems. I have recommended Case Design/Remodeling to my friends who are home owners and shown off home improvements & repairs done by Case Design. My friends were impressed with my new shutters that have no imprints or siding discoloration marks from the old shutters ? the replacement shutters were exactly the same size as the old shutters and credit goes to the Case installer for matching up the shutters to cover the same physical area near the windows- perfect!

When I suspected a water leak from my roof I immediately called Case Design and explained what I could see near one of my roof air vents; from my view point standing on the ground it appeared that the roof vent was damaged. Case took the time to listen to my concerns by phone and then sent a repair person to define the problem and recommend a solution. When the repairman arrived I was given an ?on the spot? clear definition of the problem and how it could be fixed the same day. The repairman found that two additional roof vent seals were worn to the point that they too could be causing a future water leak within a short period of time. Given the choice I requested all three vent seals be replaced. The honest assessment by Case Design allow me to decide the scope of the repair that day and showed me the evidence of wear which allowed me to avoid future water leaks by replacing all three vent seals. Thanks to Case for a job very well done that allowed me to avoid another service call in the future and most important avoiding water damage to my home. The slow melting of snow this past March from two blizzards would have caused damage without this repair. I have used Case Design Handy Man services in the past and will use them again since it makes sense to me to hire companies that know what they are doing, make suggestions, & treat customers with respect.

I walked in to their office one afternoon to meet with someone to get an estimate for the aforementioned work as Case had completely remodeled our neighbors' bathrooms recently and I was very impressed with their work. I was introducted to Tom Dodd and explained the situation and our concern that we wanted quality but wanted to keep the cost in a reasonable price range. He was very interested, courteous and professional and promptly followed up to set an appt. on the following Monday (8/16) to see our space, take measurements, discuss options and possible price. All went well during his site visit until he came up with a price estimate in the range of $7,500-$8,000! After giving us that unexpectedly high figure, he told us that he would need a $500 deposit to get things rolling. My husband and I commented on the high overall quote and Mr. Dodd hemmed and hawed a bit to the effect it seemed a little high, but he wasn't sure, etc. We requested a detailed breakdown of the estimate in order to see the line items (materials, labor, etc.) that led up to that price range. He informed us that "they don't do that" despite the fact he worked up the quote on a laptop during his site visit to our house! We asked him if he could check with someone back at the office in regard to the pricing and come back to us with that information along with some sort of detailed estimate. He rather promptly packed up, said he would call us back or email us that information soon. We never heard a word back from him. *Ironically our neighbors who did use Case for their complete remodels did, indeed, receive a detailed estimate for their work, so I do not understand why we were not able to receive one as well. Only reason I gave Mr. Dodd "C's" for Responsiveness, Punctuality, Professionalism was that he scored an "A" for these things until we asked for clarification on pricing, after which point he scores an "F". We ended up using another contractor, got the custom vanities and Corian countertops - total project, inclusive, came in under $4,000.
Description of Work: Met with Tom Dodd to get a quote to have two bathroom vanities replaced and a shower door frame tightened. Both vanities would need to have somewhat custom made vanity cabinets due to the size needed to fit/fill the area in our small, older bathrooms. In one bathroom, we wanted the side wall air duct vent to be moved and routed out the front toe-kick of the new cabinet. We also wanted to have both countertops made with Corian for durability, etc.

Case has been such a great company to work with; from scheduling to the finish product they excel above and beyond other companies I have worked with. Their employees are always very professional and respectful of your house and your time. I had an instance where another service had come to my house while the Case contractor was there. The Case contractor would not let them into my house until I confirmed they were supposed to be there. They treat your house as if it were their own. The project managers have always been extremely responsive and if I have any concerns they address them right away. What I also appreciate is that they call to provide updates even if the status of something hasn't changed. They understand the importance of keeping the client involved and not having a client wondering about anything to do with their work. I have recommended this company to all my co-workers and friends who are considering any type of work on their house from big to small. They have proven to me that they are a top notch company that maintains client satisfaction from the work they do and how they interact with their clients.
Description of Work: Case has been to my house multiple times. The first visit was to replace water damaged dry wall, repaint, and refinish hard work floors, as well as remove wallcovering and re-paint the entry to the house. They have also re-stained our deck and tore out some old concrete and laid down new stone tile to match the existing. The second visit was to renovate some existing built-ins to accommodate a new tv. And the last time was to assist me in clean up of water in the basement and some small electrical work

This was the second time we used Case for a major remodeling/construction project at our home. In 2004 Case built a 500 sq ft addition to our house and remodeled our kitchen, dining room and family room. We were so pleased with Case's work in 2004 that we, without hesitation, contacted Case to do our next projects in 2009. Case's project team, including the architect, the project manager and the carpenters were all professional, considerate and trustworthy. The subcontractors Case assigned to our projects were likewise very professional...they showed up when they were scheduled, were polite in explaining what they were doing and cleaned up after themselves when they were finished. The Case project manager contacted us at least once a day to give us an update and was always available to answer any questions and/or address any problems. Since the completion of the project in May 2009, there have been a few minor issues with the plumbing in one of the bathrooms and the project manager has always responded immediately and arranged for the plumber to fix the problem within a very short period. As I mentioned, the Case project team was very trustworthy. We counted on their experience and honest appraisal of situations when the architect's plans could not work. For example, in the master bathroom we wanted to rearrange the plumbing and, while based on the architects plans it would work, once the flooring and walls were torn out, the Case project team determined that because of the structure of the house, the rearrangement would not serve us well...they could have made the changes, but it was not in our best interest. We trusted their advice and we also trusted their integrity. Midway during the projects, we needed to leave home for a week and we planned to suspend work while we were away. The project manager, determined to maintain his completion deadline, asked if Case could continue the projects while we were away. Because of our relationship with the project manager and the carpenters, we said yes and the carpenters were responsible for the security of our home while we were away. When we returned, our home was fine and the projects had continued uninterrupted. The bottom line is that we would highly recommend Case. The projects were completed on time and within budget. While we were happy to have the projects completed, we were sorry to see the Case project team leave!
Description of Work: 1st project - Case closed in the two-story foyer of our front entryway. The closed-in space became walk-in closets for two bedrooms at the top of the stairs. 2nd project - Case remodeled the master bathroom and two additional full bathrooms.

I was amazed at how efficiently and how professionally my kitchen was done. In less than 4 weeks time I had a completely new kitchen. Looking at my hardwood floor, you can't tell where the wall was removed which is a testament to the excellent craftsmanship I observed throughout the project. I chose CASE after doing some research on kitchen remodeling and talking to people who either had their kitchen remodeled or knew someone who had. I attended an afternoon seminar sponsored by CASE describing just what is entailed in remodeling a kitchen. They explained their project management methodology, how they work closely with the customer, how the various activities are scheduled, etc. I saw their project management practices employed on my kitchen. The CASE project manager was on top of everything, ensuring every detail was covered. The craftsmen who did the majority of the work on my kitchen had been with CASE for more than 10 years. They worked closely with the project manager, another experienced, highly skilled professional, to ensure every detail was to my liking. The project manager coordinated all activities ensuring all scheduled work and workers were on track. I was kept well informed of everything that would be happening and when it would occur. The project management was outstanding, the craftsmanship was excellent and I'm thrilled with my new kitchen.
Description of Work: My 24 year old kitchen was remodeled. It was completely gutted. One wall was removed, bulkheads on one side of the room were removed and on the other side of the room the bulkheads were remodeled. Pipes needed to be moved and the existing hardwood floor needed some work where the wall was removed. New cabinets, countertops, sink, garbage disposal and appliances were installed. A tile backsplash, under the counter lighting as well as recessed ceiling lighting and smaller recessed over the island lighting was installed. All of the lighting, each type being independently controlled has dimmer switches. I can dim the under the counter lights on one side of the room only and leave others on or off. Extra electrical outlets were installed to bring everything up to code. In addition to the replacement range and additional wall oven was installed.

The design and work went very well. Case did a very careful and professional job installing the decking and ramp. They even accommodated a place for my clothesline pole on the side of the deck. The work was done on time and looks great.
Description of Work: We had a roughly 17x17 foot deck with a ramp installed on the back of our house using Trex Transcends decking.

Case did a great job from soup to nuts. We started with working with the architect and engineer for a design and then drawings. They worked patiently with us to get a design that worked for us and that we could afford. Case started the work in early November and finished by March. They were on time, cleaned up daily, even were on-site during some of the snow days during a very bad winter here. We had no headaches and no issues with the quality or timeliness of their work. Even our two dogs loved them. They made sure that all of our concerns were resolved and addressed. The addition and remodeled spaces turned out better than we ever imagined.
Description of Work: We added a 325 (or so) square foot addition, remodeled and extended the downstairs bathroom and completely remodeled the kitchen (new appliances, counters, cabinets, flooring), replaced the existing roof and put vinyl siding on the entire house.
