They were very nice, thorough and responsive. I did have to put down about $1000 to have them do a plan, but later realized it was going to be expensive. They were wonderful, efficient and very anxious to please. I knew they would do a good job, but I couldn’t put down that money. They were very nice people and efficient. I will consider them for a bigger job, like a structural design, etc.

I had a perfectly fine experience with them, but I got a much lower bid on the work (50% lower). I've worked with Case before and I find them prompt, professional, and tidy as can be. It's a very very well organized outfit, but it's a very large-scale outfit with lots of layers which makes it more expensive than my local handyman with two workers. It's a different kind of operation, so I can say positive things about every aspect of Case except for the fact that they're pricey.
Description of Work: I had them give me estimates on some appliance repair work.

We appreciate this member's comments and feedback on his last experience with Case. In business since 1961, Case is a full-service licensed and insured remodeling company that offers a 5 year warranty on all contracted projects. The craftsmen hired by Case come with a minimum of 10 years of work experience and have all gone through drug testing and extensive background checks. Why do we go through such trouble to hire the best? Because we value our client's trust in us and understand that we need to do our VERY best to take care of them and their home.

Why did we select Case Design? We had previously use Case Design and realized that they were generally about 25% higher than all other bids. However, in our previous effort their service and help had been superior. In that job (approximately $35,000) they provided a wonderful project manager who came to the job site daily and oversaw all activities and absorbed all problems. We simply wrote checks and enjoyed. Because of their previous experience we returned to them for this work even though their costs were double all other estimates. How did this job change our minds? 1. This job was doomed from the start when the project manager assigned demonstrated his concept in his statement "I have to trust my subcontractors." He appeared to ignore the customer and work to help his subcontractors. However, I must admit that his supervisor said that he was working hard for us at his office. 2. It didn't take long to see problems which began by him not using a lock box to secure our key, as promised by Case's designer. And, the project leader was oblivious of this fact because he only came to our home for check collection. I had to tell him that because there was not lock box I now wanted the locks rekeyed after this job. 3. I went this way for all of the work. I ended up handling all the problems and there were many. 4. In this job the work was primarily subcontracted to and accomplished by Artisan Floors and More. Although we had a well planned out statement of work with colors and choices clearly identified, the Artisan Floors and More supervisors seemed to treat the contract as a suggestion sheet. 5. In addition, the Case handyman's work was generally average. However, he definitely demonstrated how poorly he could re-install a shower stall. For all of the problems that occurred Case only interviewed after much customer interaction. In the end of story we spent double the price and took almost 4 1/2 months to do a three week job with problems, such as, 1) no door box allowing subcontractors to carry our key about town in their pockets; 2) color and marble selections substituted at will, parts and supplies never ordered ahead of time which yielded weeks of delay; and 3) a project manager who at one time suggested to me that we were picky for requiring that the marble selections be followed. Not everything was disastrous. I will give Case credit for that fact that the corporate headquarters was very responsive to my pleas for help. But, at the same time, I was advised that they could only push because it was a different office (our work was done by their Falls Church, VA office). However, they did help us quite a bit. Bottom line: We're 50-50 in our successful use of Case Design and we knowingly accepted their high prices and needless additions to cost because we wanted that project manager to manage the project. Because we didn't get this we were disappointed. And, because we had to go through their headquarters to get the job done as purchased - I won't recommend them to my friends.
Description of Work: We were completing a tile replacement and damage repair to our master bath. Water damage caused by grout cracks in the shower stall had damaged the walls and ceiling of the room below. Since the original builder tile couldn't be matched we elected to remove and replace all tile in the bath, as well as, repair all structure and wall surfaces where damage was noted. The fixtures and cabinets were to remain unchanged.

The tiles started falling off the wall in our kids' shower. I expected this repair would end up being a big one in that I suspected there might be damage behind the drywall and even to the ceiling of the floor below. Case could easily have had me paying for all kinds of work but instead our designer made some excellent recommendations for ways to accomplish the desired result and save money. We looked behind the wall and it appeared sufficiently dry that no additional construction was required. They brought in a great tile guy who left the bull nose tiles and removed the rest. He salvaged many of the tiles so that we could put them back in a design to make it less obvious that some were new and some were old. He then replaced and regrouted them and it looks great. We had stains on the tub and considered removing and replacing it (which would have meant that our bull nose tiles could not have stayed and would have been MUCH more expensive). Instead he suggested that we recoat the tub. That happened today and the contractor they brought in for that was fantastic. All that’s left is to reinstall the glass shower door. They have been responsive and tidy, neat, and pleasant throughout the project. My husband is a contractor (of large buildings) and is very pleased with their work. This is the 4th or 5th project that we have used Case for and I'm sure, not the last!

I plan to add more detail to this review at a later date - I have a LOT to get off my chest - but, for now, I note the following:My biggest complaint is that the sales person who provided the estimate, prepared the work order, and took my money did not inspect any of the work done. In fact, no one did. As a result, it fell to me to identify either items on the work order that were not performed (and there were several, some of which were still not performed during the follow-up period, and one that was NEVER performed) or flaws in the work that was performed and then telephonically chase down the sales person to provide him with the punch list. Several self-imposed deadlines were missed without providing me with any, let alone advance notice. I was sent a separate invoice for work performed TO CORRECT THE FLAWS LEFT BEHIND BY OTHER LABORERS. It's been more than a month since the work was completed and I received the invoice for final payment, in response to which I immediately e-mailed the sales person objecting to certain costs, expressing my overall dissatisfaction with the absence of quality control and responsiveness, and requesting that he call me to discuss my concerns. He called me for the first time about seven days ago. Bottom line: CASE did not live up to its reputation and certainly was not worth the premium price they charge based on its reputation.

Alan did a beautiful job repairing and replacing outdoor lighting fixtures. He was resourceful in fixing one of them and found an identical fixture for one that needed replacement. He was polite, punctual and did the job in the timeframe he said he would. Alan also replaced indoor track lighting for me. Again, he found similar fixtures, installed them and moved one of the "leftover" fixtures to another part of the house which was an unexpected benefit. I would not hesitate to use CASE again. What I really liked is that Alan has been with CASE for many years. Having worked with other Handyman services, I never go the same craftsman twice. Thank you Steve and Alan!!!
Description of Work: Steve Owen of Case Design did a terrific job in coordinating my handyman services for me. He scheduled repairmen and followed up after each job was finished. Steve is very easy to work with. Alan of Case Design did a beautiful job repairing and replacing outdoor lighting fixtures which had corroded due to exposure to the elements.

There was some confusion on my part about what was included in the development fee, but Lisa was incredibly responsive and flexible as we made our way through the possibilities of a challenging space. She went way beyond to try and accommodate my concerns, address my expectations and consider my budget restraints. I am sorry that I have not been able to continue the project with Lisa as I believe I have not experienced the full extent of her expertise in the nuts and bolts as well as in the design of an efficient, workable kitchen space. I just couldn't afford the estimates provided, and while my kitchen remains untouched, I will continue the search for a more affordable alternative.x
Description of Work: Case, with Lisa Cortright as the project designer, measured, photographed and created four possible plans for the remodeling of my kitchen. A preliminary outline of the project scope was provided, a detailed list of the jobs to be completed. We met twice at my house, once at their office and exchanged several emails and phone calls.

Overall the experience was excellent! All things considered I thought that everything that was done was worth what I paid for it! Outstanding jobs Case design/schedule Fred! Be very careful when you hire individuals from site like these, the rating could be misleading! Be very specific about you want and desires! Understand what the costs will be for that project you have in mind! That way you won't have sticker shock when the estimate come you way!
Description of Work: I had some service work done for me a little over 6 months ago for a installing a storm door in the front of my house, I didn't want the door to be mounted on the face of the molding around the door since the property is roughly 30 years old!! After getting some estimates one recommendation suggested the best way to mount the door would be to trim the molding and mount it to the wood frame behind the molding this would require the door to be trimmed out to make the finish look good again! I (mistakenly) hired a person from the Service magic reference site. He was rated 5 Stars!!! He told me he could do the project the way I described it above! He worked on that storm door about 12 hrs! I paid him roughly 600.00 for the labor! He never even trimmed out the door as well didn't properly measure the frame pieces of the door thus causing the door to stick and not close correctly! He also repaired my office ceiling. I had a leak in my kitchen that leaked into my office; I took down a piece of drywall about roughly 4x3 and asked him if he could patch that hole for! He said he could and that was not done correctly! Another couple hundred bucks down the drain! Time to cut my losses pay him get out! About a year ago I checked into Case design, went to a seminar, talked to some of the employees. I wanted to do a major kitchen and bath remodel! (The funds I thought I would have did not materialize) project didn't happen! This past Monday I thought to myself I'm tired of the fly by night Handymen out there; I have to start a relationship with Case even if it is just the Handyman service to start! I called Steve Owen of their Fred service group, I told him what my need were, he told what the rates were then emailed with that info. I scheduled a day (which was the next day) with him! Russ Fenty arrives at my house early and told him what need to be fixed and finished! He realigned my storm door and trimmed it out beautify, he spackled over the bad job in my office and put 2 excellent coats of spackle on the patch! I will have very little sanding to do when a repaint the ceiling! he also trimmed out my pull down attic steps. That was done well also! He is an excellent person to work with!

It was very expensive for what they did, but I needed it done. They did the work and it was good. I now don’t have the next door neighbor complaining about water leaking into his house. They charged me $200 for 20 minutes of work and that’s their standard. When it comes to the quality, they did the work and it’s not leaking. Their responsiveness was really good since they came out the next day. I don’t know about their punctuality because I wasn’t here. Their professionalism was good and I can’t complain. I thought of using them for doors, but I got somebody else.

It was a great experience. It was a difficult job. They were punctual and their work was good. I would tell people that they were good to work with. I’m really busy. I’m not in the advertising business. It’s a company that I’ve paid a lot of money to do my work and they were fine. I’ve never used any other company, but their price was okay. I think that they are expensive, but I’m paying them. I would use them again in the future if need be.
Description of Work: Case Design/Remodeling Inc did a lot of kitchen updation for me. They took out the countertops that were 6 years old and put in new granites and built up my hall and made it bigger. They also put molding around the top of the cabinets. They finished in July because I was waiting for my new cook top and different stuffs to come in.

We never heard back from Case. ***UPDATE*** Please see above. As soon as I submitted my report, Case was in touch to rectify the situation. I have upgraded my report accordingly. We look forward to continuing to work with Case and have a tentative start date to our bathroom remodel.
Description of Work: We wanted to hire Case to remodel our hall bathroom, and in the future our master bathroom. Initially I e-mailed Case and got an initial general response to my query, but then no further follow up when I attempted to schedule a meeting. After that we did schedule to meet with, and did meet with, one of their salesmen. He was very professional and on-time. He told us to go further in the process would cost us a non-refundable $500.00 deposit. We were fine with that knowing that Case was a well-establised company and we were more than likely to use them. Further planning revealed a ball park estimate of $20,000-$25,000 with no written line item estimate. That was more than we wanted to spend and we asked the salesman if it was possible to trim the "estimate" with cheaper items. He said yes and would get back to us within 2 weeks with another design and estimate. That was 2 months ago and still no response. And yes, we're out $500 for a vague estimate for a bathroom remodel. ***UPDATE*** As soon as I wrote and submitted the above review, Case was in touch with me to rectify the situation. I am most appreciative that Case stands behind their work, and exhibited integrity in following through with my dissatisfaction. We did meet with another designer and are moving forward with Case as our bathroom remodelers. I am very happy that Case followed up based on my report.

I called Case approximately 10 days ago and was contacted the same day by Tim. An appointment was made with him -- scheduled for last week -- Thursday, 10/6/11 at 8 a.m. I received a call from someone named Steve a little after 8 a.m. that day saying Tim could not keep the appointment. No explanation was given as to why the appointment was not being kept. Another appointment was set up for Tim to come to see the job and provide me with an estimate this morning, 10/10/11 at 8 a.m. He had not arrived by a little before 9 a.m. nor had he called to offer an explanation as to why he was late. I called Case at approximately 9:50 a.m. and was told Tim was not in the office -- he was probably in the field -- and Steve was on the phone and would call me back in 5 minutes. Approximately 20 minutes later Tim called saying he was sorry, but he forgot about the appointment. I asked him what happened last week, and he told me there was a scheduling conflict! I am left to believe that my business and my personal time is of very little importance to this company and that they lack the level of professionalism I expect from a potential company to do work in my home. I will never again consider them to perform work for me. I have no faith they would show up and do a good job given the way I've been treated.

Overall, our experience working with CASE was excellent. We did have three problems arise during the project with subcontractors, but CASE stepped in and professionally resolved each issue. Before I go into the details of these issues, I want to point out employees of CASE that were outstanding, Rick Bentley (craftsman), George Berling (senior project manager) and Jenny the designer of the project. Mr. Bentley went way beyond the call of duty, taking over aspects of the project where some subcontractors failed, and maintained a high quality of craftsmenship and professionalism throughout the entire project. Mr Bergling was also outstanding at stepping in when issues arose with some subcontractors, finding ways to resolve each issue in a timely and affordable manner. Jenny (who's last name I can't remember, sorry) designed an affordable and yet beautiful new bedroom layout for us. WIth that said, I'll briefly detail the issues we had during the remodeling process and how CASE resolved them. The first part of the process was handled completely by CASE, with Mr. Bentley being the lead craftsman. This consisted with removing the built in shelves, framing out the new closet, electrical/cable work and rerouting the existing AC from floor vents to ceiling vents. Mr. Bentley and his crew completed this part on schedule and in a professional manner. The rerouting of the floor AC vents left two large holes in our beautiful wood floors. We thought we would save some money by going with an old contractor who had sanded our floors 12 years prior, rather then use the subcontractor CASE recommended. Long story short, our old contractor was good at sanding but horrible at fixing large holes. They ruined our floors. We turned to CASE for help, and they brought in their floor expert, Marcus Coleman of Select Floors, Inc, and his crew of talented craftsmen. Marcus and his team were amazing. They undid the damage and made it look at if the floors were brand new. This is not easy to do with 100 year old floors. I'm still amazed at what they pulled off, and for a very affordable price. It goes back to the old saying? you get what you pay for. By trying to same money with a cheap contractor, we did more harm than good. Once the floors were finished, the painting and staining of the new closet doors were the next part. We worked with a subcontractor of CASE's, Galaxy Painting. At a point when the staining of the closet doors was not being done to our satisfaction, again CASE stepped in and worked with Galaxy to find the right members of it's team to do this job. Galaxy brought in some very talented craftsmen to handle the staining process, creating four beautiful doors that matched existing, original 100 year old oak window framing. The end result was a beautiful job at an affordable price. The last part, the installation of the closet system, was the worst part of the project. The subcontractor for this job, Closet Factory, improperly measured the space to which they building the custom closet shelving. This resulted in a system that did not lay flat on the floor and was tilted. To resolve the problem, they place plastic wedges under most of the closet base and said the job was done. This looked horrible and we couldn't believe this contractor considered this an acceptable solution to the problem. A meeting was held with CASE senior project manager, Mr. Berling and one of the owners of the Closet Factory. The meeting was tense and at times I found the Closet Factory representatives to be unprofessional. I've never witnessed a subcontractor speak to the client or it's main contractor in such a manner. They refused to fix the problem and walked off the job. CASE immediately brought back Mr. Bentley and another talented craftsmen, who came up with a smart and efficient way to fix the problem. The closet unit looks perfect now, thanks to their efforts. In the end, i can highly recommend CASE for any remodeling job, and in particular, Mr. Berling and Mr. Bentley. Of their subcontractors, Galaxy Painting and Select Floors are outstanding. Just keep in mind, craftsmen good at painting, aren't necessarily good at staining, so state clearly what you're expecting as the end result, so the contractor can bring the correct people in to do the job at the beginning. Unfortunately, I can not recommend Closet Factory at all. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a contractor.
Description of Work: Our bedroom was remodeled, which included removing built-in shelving, creating a larger custom closet, rerouting our AC vents, refinishing old wood floors, painting and small detail work.

They have great people, and I have had them out here a couple of times. They know what they are doing and have been really topnotch in everything they have done for me. I don’t have to worry about their professionalism or their punctuality. Everything is holding up well, and I have no complications with them. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.
Description of Work: I used Case Design/Remodeling Inc for home repairs and handyman-type services. They did some caulking on some tile in the bathroom.
