We did the bathrooms first. Based on positive experience, we decided to have Case remodel the kitchen/bay window area. We met with Case during the day; we both work so this was a bit inconvenient as we had to take off work. Case provided 3 designs based on our discussions with their design team, and we selected one of the designs. We selected the cabinets and fixtures from the products they offered in their design center. Case made arrangements for us to visit a granite countertop supplier so we could select a stone we preferred. Case provided us with names of two appliance providers; we selected one firm which provided us with terrific prices on higher quality appliances. The installation was performed very well and looks wonderful. There were a few glitches: we did not get the large sink we desired perhaps due to a communication mixup. They ran a telephone wire to the wrong place in our house and had to be re-strung. One wall electrical junction box in a cabinet was not covered.
Description of Work: Remodel 1 bathroom completely. Repaint 2nd bathroom and install new shower doors and ceiling fan. Completely gut and replace kitchen, eat-in bay window area, including install ceramic tile floor throughout, new cabinets, lighting and install new appliances, and paint walls.

The designer consultant, Allie, was very competent and professional. I was left with the impression that Case would do a good job with the bathroom and take very good care of us, especially when it came to picking the bathroom features, which I felt I needed help with. But in the end, their estimate was by far the highest we received, about 25% more than the next highest bidder. We just didn't feel we could spend upwards of $20,000 to remodel our small bathroom.
Description of Work: We had Case come out to give us an estimate for a bathroom remodel job.

Termites had destroyed an exterior wall in our kitchen surrounding a sliding glass door. Chase completely replaced the wall, including both the internal structural framing, a large header and dry wall. They were very professional, competent and well mannered. The quality of the work was outstanding and it was completed on time within the two days estimated. I was completely satisfied with every aspect of their work.

Went without a hitch. The start date had to be pushed back for 10 days but once they started it went quickly and even finished two weeks ahead of schedule.
Description of Work: I have been using Case Design for more then 10 years. This most recent project is the 5th with Case. To be honest I wouldn't consider using any other company.! Of course, they are not the cheapest contractor in the area. But over the years I have come to understand and appreciate the saying: "You get what you pay for". Case provides high quality design and craftsmenship; sees to every detail; never leaves a mess; provides realistic start and completion dates -- and sticks to them; and, will always make it right. In fact, that just happened on this last bathroom project. The outlet in the new bathroom didn't work. No one could figure out why it didn't work. Several Case craftsmen tried to figure it out but to no avail. So Case's Project Manager arranged to have an outside contractor come to the house and triage the situation. They found the problem and fixed it! Its just another example of Case's commitment to quality work and doing the best job possible -- even if it happens to require using an outside contractor. My husband and I are thrilled with the new bathroom and we thank the entire Case Design team.

I selected Case because I appreciated their deliberative approach and felt they had the level of skill and attentiveness I wanted. The finished product is great. I have a beautiful new kitchen space, a renovated area where the kitchen used to be, a renovated laundry area and a variety of other changes that have improved the appearance and utility of my home. John Audet was the primary designer. John and Chris Horwitz did a great job designing a space that incorporated the ideas and wishes I expressed as well as design and functional aspects that weren?t necessarily things I was focusing on but contributed to the final product, and consulted with me as needed during the process. I appreciated that John listened to me and was responsive to the concerns I expressed. He answered my questions and provided the information I needed to make decisions and move forward. During the decision phases, he encouraged but did not pressure me. Even after we moved into construction, John continued to provide support on subsequent design decisions, which I appreciated. My experience with John and Chris during the design phase built a sense of trust and comfort that carried over into the construction phase. Construction can be disconcerting. But I appreciated that Case?s project manager, craftsmen and the majority of their subcontractors were extremely prompt, professional, skilled and hard working. They were respectful of my home and of my concerns. There was a delay with the flooring at the end of the project but otherwise everything seemed to go according to the schedule, despite the intense heat during the majority of the construction. James Wood was the project manager. He is knowledgeable, organized, reliable, attentive to details and responsive. He was in regular contact with the craftsmen on site. He was more than willing to answer my questions and explain various issues and aspects of the construction. I felt he was being straightforward with me and provided me with the information I needed. He followed up and ensured that aspects of the project were being done as they were supposed to be. The level of communication was great. I met regularly with James, the project manager, who willingly answered my questions and explained what was happening. He responded promptly to emails and kept me informed about the status of the project. No construction is without the unexpected. But it is how they are handled that matters. While there were a couple of issues, the project manager (James) and the designer (John) worked with me to explain what had happened, offer options to the concern or issue and ensure that the resolution was acceptable to me. When there was a problem that the gas company had to resolve, both James and the plumber (F.J. Hooks) made a great effort to reach me and let me know what was going on and to mitigate the problem until the gas company could come out and fix it. Overall, I am very pleased with the work that was done and my experience with Case.
Description of Work: designed and constructed an addition with a new kitchen and eating area, demolished and restored old kitchen space, remodeled laundry area, renovated utility closet, creating a separate utilty closet and separate coat closet. Project included new siding, roofing, drywall, flooring, painting, electrical, plumbing and foundation work.

Reliable, organized service. If money is no object, Case is a good provider. If you go over your allowances, they'll bill you right away, but do not expect a refund if you are under your allowances. They are not cost conscious - I had 4 boxes of tile leftover (major over-estimate by Case) and a towel bar that was not installed because it did not fit (they ordered it, but did not take it back when it was not used; it's still in the box in my basement). Examples of questionable service/charges: 1) the bathtub Case installed was not draining well; when I inquired with Case, I was told I need to snake it, maybe replace more pipe, etc.; a friend was over and I explaine the problem and he merely twisted the stopper to raise it higher and voila, it started draining better; 2) the Schlage lockset that was installed was not working properly; since I purchased the lockset, Case's warranty did not cover the issue; I was told to purchase a new lockset and they would bill be a minimum of 2 hours to replace the existing lockset; I called a locksmith who said there was nothing wrong with the lockset and it was just installed incorrectly and he had the locks working again in less than an hour; 3) I was charged over $2,000 to paint one small bathroom and one half bath and I supplied the paint.. Bottom line is that if I did not have a budget, I would use Case.
Description of Work: Remodeling of 1.5 baths and some handyman work that was billed hourly.

A lot of people told me to expect Case to be expensive, even the people who had worked with them and recommended them. I was, therefore, surprised to discover after interviewing several design and build firms that Case was very competitive in their pricing; however, they were far better in terms of professionalism and scheduling specifics....and they had the longest term warranty (5 years as opposed to the typical 2). We couldn't be happier with how smoothly the remodel went. From the beginning, our experience working with our remodeling consultant, David Waguespack, was great. He gave excellent advice and was respectful and understanding of our overall goals to improve the space and also understood the look and feel we were going for. He also had some wonderful ideas that we hadn't thought of, for example he included adding subway tiling to the walls, which increased reflected light from the new fixtures. I had a great time working with him in the various show rooms. Once he had a feel for what our tastes were he was able to direct us to quality choices that fit our budget and were also stylish. After the "fun" part of design, we had to weather the actual work part of the process. The only thing I would have done differently was gotten a clearer picture for when kitchen remodeling was going to start. I had my brother demolish the kitchen and dispose of...well...as it turned out, he had a place and purpose for everything. When work started, the deck was built over the first two weeks (including over the Thanksgiving holiday). If I had been more proactive about understanding the schedule, I would have postponed demolishing the kitchen by a couple of weeks. Lessons learned. Once the kitchen work started, I was amazed at how quickly everything went. Our lead carpenter, Robert Campbell, erected a temporary wall that kept the dust down in the rest of the house. It also gave us more privacy. Since the deck had been completed he and the workers he managed used the back door to enter and exit the house. There were a couple of intense days when a lot of workers were in the house for electrical work, duct work, and plumbing. Most of the time though the work was contained within the kitchen and was not nearly as disruptive as I thought it would be. Dale Tucker managed the overall project and was responsive and easy to work with as well. In the end, we had one charge that was a little more than estimated because of a problem encountered with the ceiling, but that extra cost was offset by some credits we received for doing our own demolishing and a few other choices we made that saved a little money here and there. In the end the project, which started the week before Thanksgiving ended the Friday before Christmas....two weeks ahead of schedule and a few hundred dollars less than the estimate. All of the carpentry work was excellent and as mentioned earlier was completed cleanly and efficiently. We only had three issues and all were dealt with very quickly. I would definitely use Case again and would recommend them to my family and friends.
Description of Work: We have a 1961 bi-level home, with combined kitchen and dining area on the second floor. The kitchen had been "remuddled" by the previous owner and the melamine cabinets were falling apart, the counter was stained and peeling, and there was little useable counter space. The cabinets and drawers were also small and inefficient. There were two doorways. One leading into the kitchen and the other larger one leading into the dining area. There was no "flow" and little space between the kitchen and dining table with dining chairs getting in the way of the door and getting hit by the refrigerator. The trick was we couldn't afford a build-out and there was no interior space to "steal" for the kitchen, so we needed a creative reworking of the space. We also wanted a sliding door installed and deck built, so that we could have more light and easier access to the back yard. The project architect, T.J. Monahan, and remodeling consultant, David Waguespack, took our input and delivered a very clean, open, and efficient design. The redesign closed one door-way and widened the other doorway and opened a very large pass-through window that leads into the living room. This gave the kitchen a more open and lighter feel (we have a very tree-heavy/dark yard). A storage/seating bench was installed along the dining space wall that allowed us to purchase a trestle table that takes up less floor space. The table still seats up to 10 people comfortably in spite of the limited space. We also have much more counter space. We lost some storage space because we lost some cabinets by putting in the pass-through, but we really don't miss it. The lower cabinet has a lazy-susan that holds a baker's pantry. Any tools that we don't use on a regular basis are stored in the bench storage. These are still easily accessed for the rare times they are needed. The cabinets are sturdy and stylish. We also took the opportunity to have a higher end range put in along with a large oven vent, which we love. The installation of the vent required some infrastructure work to install an intake vent and the installation of the door required moving a heating vent. These were the only two additions that required work to be done outside of the kitchen/dining area. The deck is also a great addition to the overall use of the kitchen and dining area. Even when the temperature was too high or the mosquitos are out in force we enjoy the expanded view from the dining room.

Job could not be completed because they underestimated the ceiling height.
Description of Work: I used Case last year to do some work on my kitchen. I also planned to use them to build a portico on the front of my house and also finish my basement and more kitchen work. I have spent alot of money with them in the past and planned to spend ALOT more. However after my experience today they just lost a customer. A subcontractor came to my house this morning to switch out the chandelier in my foyer. simple job. I had to wait three weeks for this appointment and am pressed for time. The idiots came with a ladder that is too short and expect me to wait another 2 weeks to be the work done. I'm sorry but that is just unacceptable. Steve offers ZERO customer service and could not care less that this was a huge inconvenience for me.

Case Design Remodeling was one of the companies I called to give me a bid on a job after the contractor we selected to do the job decided it would not do. Our project was more of a cosmetic renovation and we had many of the materials needed to complete the work, so we decided to go with another vendor because it's more of a general contractor job. However, I will say that I was impressed with Lisa Cortright's responsiveness, with the professionalism of their project management approach -- far superior to some other vendors I've seen. I've also seen photos of their work -- beautiful. They also know their stuff with respect to environmentally preferable materials and methods. I will definitely be calling Case for a bid when we are ready for our next big project.

Case remodeled our hall bathroom (see my previous review). The faucet that was installed was leaking, so I called Case to have them come look at it. Within an hour, the job foreman called both my cell and home number but I was unavailable. A couple of hours later, one of the original workmen showed up at my house to check the faucet. It did not need repairing, but I found Case to be extremely responsive, and they stand by their warranty. Although the bathroom remodel was on the expensive side, I am VERY happy we used Case and they stand by their work.

I scheduled an appointment a week in advance and told them that in order to do they work they would have to turn off my building's water, which they agreed to do. The day of the appointment I was informed the plumber needed to show up 4 hours late, which I was understanding of. But, when I finally received a call that he was on his way, he informed me that he could not shut off my buildings water. This meant he couldn't do the work I needed done. I don't mind if they were unwilling or unable to do the work. But I'm very annoyed they waited until the very last minute to tell me.

Case's Tom was very professional. However, we did not go with Case for a couple of reasons. (1) Overall the price seemed really high for the project, and ended up being almost double the bid we did go with. (2) Within the bid, they had a high cost for "miscellaneous" costs which seemed inappropriate to me. It came across as junk fees you see from Mortgage companies. For example, within that fees were costs for drywall screws; however, there was a separate entry for drywall. Shouldn't' the screws be part of that bid? I have no doubt Case would do a great job, but you will pay for it.

The Case Design team was phenomenal and we are absolutely thrilled with the work they did for us. The workers were on time and did careful, precise work with great attention to detail. Both my husband and I felt they treated our project like it was work they were doing on their own home. They provided excellent design and construction services and,as a result, our project turned out even better than we imagined. We had heard that Case tends to be on the pricey side;however,I'm a true believer in the say in,"you get what you pay for". In this case,we feel we got our money's worth and then some. Thank you so much Sean, Kevin, James, Rob, Mike and the rest of the Case team (to include their excellent sub-contractors). you were great and finished project is beautiful! We need some additional work done on our house and will definitely call Case Design to provide the service.

The Case designer came to our house and we went through our ideas and hers. We met several times in her design office and engaged in a lot of very productive back and forth. She took us to local supply stores where we picked out the tile and all the fixtures and the cabinetry. She was very easy to work with. The actual work was done in a professional manner. Our crew chief met with us several times, always called to consult when issues arose, and was always available if we wanted to talk with him. The workers were very friendly and professional. They cleaned up immaculately each day, readily accomodated our schedule, and were mindful of our concerns about not letting our two indoor cats escape. When problems came up--and they will with any project like this--Case took care of them. We even thought of some things mid-job and it was very easy to amend the contract to include them. Case completed the job in the time they predicted and for the cost they quoted us, with the addition of agreed-upon add-ons. We chose Case for this job because we've used Case before on a kitchen remodel and a new porch and we've been pleased each time. We probably could have had this sort of work done for less but you get what you pay for.
Description of Work: Case redesigned our very small (6.5 x 6.5-foot), 64-year old bathroom. The plan was to gut the existing space, remove the bathtub and replace it with a shower stall and cabinets, and upgrade the other fixtures and tile. The job turned out to be much more complicated than originally anticipated, however, as both the wiring and pipes (to the basement) needed to be redone to meet code; also the original builders had cut through floor joists in a dangerous way, so the subflooring also had to be reinforced.
