Very prompt, and as promised, very clean. Not a spec of ash or dust left in the house. It was raining that day so the crew could not climb up and inspect the chimney caps. They based their assessment on a visual inspection from the ground, as best I can tell. My reason for a less-than-stellar review is the amount of spam mail and solicitations we then received for several months afterward. I understand they want to make money, but we did not appreciate the volume and nature of the solicitations, which are typical form letters designed to make it appear that the president of the company actually put pen to paper to warn us of the impending disaster if we didn't spend lots of money on liners and other costly services.

It was okay - no complaints, the workers arrived on time. We paid $130 but typically they charge $180 for the service. I would not pay $180 to the have the work done.

I contacted the Priddy Clean folks and within two days they started the work on our two chimneys. The original estimate required a complete rebuild to the roof level of only one of the chimneys, but once they started working and got a closer look at the second chimney, they recommended a full rebuild of the second one as well. I agreed and they continued with their work. The work team arrived each day around the same time and worked through the day. They were courteous and the leader of the team introduced himself to me on the first morning. They worked at a reasonable pace in spite of the wet weather we experienced in June 2009, and completed the work. I was very satisfied with their work and hired them again to clean the ventilation duct work in our home - they did a wonderful job with that work as well. Priddy Clean is run by Mr. Jerry Priddy, whom I spoke with about the increased price to full rebuild the second chimney. He was a professional and a gentleman as well as apologetic about having to increase the price. We were able to reach a comfortable compromise on a new price. I highly recommend Jerry and his team. They do quality work at a very reasonable price!

The cleaning went fine, but after they finished the chimney made noise when the wind blew, like swinging metal. We asked them to come repair it. They didn't show up for the two appointments we made. When the owner finally returned my call, he was condescending, suggesting that I hadn't closed the flue. They showed up for the third appointment and discovered a new problem that they wanted $1,000 to fix. No way!

They were fantastic! They were very professional, very clean and very meticulous. It was a good experience.

They cleaned all air ducts and also the dryer vent. I was not home and no picture was left, so I'll have to assume it was well done. They were on time, courteous, left zero mess and took much less time than their scheduler had anticipated. I think they charged heavily for the dryer vent cleaning (about $170) which I had asked them to "look at" and then my husband approved the work without knowing the price (I was not home since they finished up earlier than anticipated). I have seen other reports where companies don't charge much for this when they are doing a full air duct service. They also left an estimate for chimney repair (at my request)-for about $1700. This includes a new chimney cap although we had that replaced a few years ago. It may not be a high price-I actually have no idea. I don't know if I was scammed a few years ago or if Priddy is being over-optimistic about the work that needs doing. I will seek other estimates on that. Before the duct work I did research companies in the area, as well as the process. Although Priddy is expensive, they were in line with other certified companies in the area (just not in line with the ValuPak kind of offers). I am told that many companies are not certified or do not necessarily follow nationally certified practices. (There is actually an air duct cleaning association if you can believe that-and it lists what must be done and what questions to ask!)

For the initial appt, I was impressed that they provided phone support after 6. BUT they did not show up for the scheduled appointment and did not call to provide any notice. Wasted 2 hours of my time (they provide 2 hour time blocks rather than a firm appt time)

Warning to all VA residents - do not use this company for a chimney repair. Priddy Clean is not licensed to work in VA and we found this out the very hard way. DC residents should also check before using them. Priddy Clean has only ever shown us a MD business license. Another warning, if you live in Alexandria, VA you need a building permit to have chimney work done because of the fire risk. Despite the fact that Priddy Clean lists VA and DC numbers on its materials, all of the phone numbers go to their office in MD. They don't have offices in VA and DC. We discovered this is something companies do to give the appearance of being licensed in other states. We found out we needed a building permit when an Alexandria inspector saw the masonry work being done on our chimney. I should have checked about the building permit before hiring a company, but I also think Priddy Clean should have mentioned the need to get a permit. In retrospect it is not surprising that Priddy Clean did not say anything because we could have never gotten a permit for them to do the work because they are not licensed in VA. Priddy Clean did the work in July 2008. I have waited to write this review until March 2009 because we JUST got the chimney inspected by Alexandria and it passed. From July 2008 to now I have spent countless hours on the phone trying to get Priddy Clean to get a VA license. Despite requesting the owner to call me on several occasions, I never heard from him. In the end my calls were not returned by anyone. The last insult was them telling me they got licensed and sending me a VA State Corporation Commission "business transaction authority" paper. After calling Richmond authorities, I found out that piece of paper was not a VA license. It was just the first step to obtaining a VA license. On Priddy Clean's one pager with their MD license number and Certificate of Liability Insurance, they list "HIC" numbers. Their MD license number, a bogus VA license number, and another number for DC. A woman from Priddy Clean kept telling me they were working to get the license and then I would call back several weeks later and they were still in the same place. I made it clear on several occasions that we could not list Priddy Clean as our contractor on our (retroactive) permit until they were licensed in VA, and until that step was taken we could not get our chimney inspected, but Priddy Clean did not seem to care at all. In the end, Priddy Clean's chimney work passed inspection, but I would never, ever recommend them. And based on what I told the City of Alexandria's Code Administration Office, Alexandria is reporting Priddy Clean to business authorities because Priddy Clean should have never done chimney repair work without a license. Bottom line - if you live in VA, do not use this company and if you live in DC or MD I would seriously reconsider hiring them because of their disregard for the rules.

Work went very well. The estimator was on time. The workers came exactly as scheduled, worked quickly, cleaned up well, were polite - we hardly knew they were here. The finished work looks great. We had 4 companies out to do estimates on our three chimneys. There was little agreement between the estimates in terms of what work needed to be done (most agreement on furnace chimney, the least agreement on the two fireplaces). Some companies I felt were feeding me a line about the amount of work needed, to the tune of over $10000! Priddy Clean's prices were fair and the work was justifed and well explained. A few days after the estimate I received a letter detailing the recommended work with an explanation of the reasons and benefits. We had the furnace repairs completed at this time and will have the other chimney repairs done later this year also by Priddy Clean.

They were punctual and easy to work with and gave me an estimate that was very accurate. They performed the work very fast and effieciently. Since the service the chimney has been working beautifully.

Excellent. We had a problem with large amounts of smoke coming into the house every time we lit a fire (and yes, the flu was open). I had used Priddy to clean the chimney last year and really liked their service, so I called them again. The first day we set up, the guys were 45 min. later than their 2 hour window so I called to reschedule. The next day they were right on time. Jose did the inspection and wrote up an estimate - I appreciated that there was no pressure applied to make a decision right then - we called the next day and they were able to come out 24 to 48 hours later to do the fix! Jose arrived on time, kept everything extremely clean, cleaned up outside when he was done and did a great job. He ripped out the old flu plates, re-surfaced/re-built the smoke chamber and installed the new damper. 24 hours later when we lit a fire...NO SMOKE! It was wonderful. We are extremely happy with the work they did, with the price, the fact that they did a free estimate (another company we considered charged a non-refundable $130 estimate fee - we didn't have them come out and give us an estimate based on that), and the customer service we received.

I ve had a problem with the crown being cracked and they were supposed to come back out and repair. I don t know if they did or not I haven t been home all week to check. I actually had someone else to come in and do another inspection and they found that my chimney crown needed to be replaced. I told him I just had it replaced, and he said that there were cracks in it. So I went up on my roof and there were cracks in it. So I called them back and told them you guys did my crown and there are cracks in it. They told me that they would send someone out. I don t know if they did or not because I haven t been back on the loop and they haven t called me to say that they have been back. They did a good job. I felt like they knew what they were doing but there are some things they don t specialize in. I expected that they should know. I guess some of the advice I had gotten I didn t trust so that s why I had someone come back out and do another inspection. They actually quoted a higher price.

They came out and gave a detailed quote. When I called they happened to be in the area so they stopped by the same day. They were very knowledgeable. They took pictures of the chimney to explain what they were talking about and what needed to be done. They worked with us with what had to be done and the price.

We have two chimneys and both were starting to fall apart due to age. The mortar had fallen out in many places and our house had started to smell very smoky whenever we had a fire. As a result, we called several companies to understand what the problem was and to provide a quote for fixing it. Priddy Clean was not the absolute cheapest, but we went with them because they clearly deal with our type of problem all the time and were able to come quickly to take care of it. We've used the fireplace several times since then and it works great-- no smoky smell inside our house.

I was very surprised and disappointed by my experience with Priddy Clean. In the past, they have been very professional, but I will not be using them again, or recommending them to anyone I know. I was scheduled for a cleaning on Oct 24 between 8 & 10am. I had errands to do before leaving town on Mon & approx 9:30, I called to get status. I was told that the tech was running late but should be at my house by 10:30. 10:30 - I got a call from Christine telling me that the cleaner was tied up at another job, and would be at my house by noon. I was getting annoyed & explained that I had a lot to do, & that I had already wasted a lot of time waiting. I said that I could have done a lot of errands in the time I'd been sitting around, & that I would be willing to wait if the technician was definitely coming. Christine said that it would be better to plan for 3 to 5pm, and I said fine - make me the last appt at 5 so I could complete everything I needed to do. Around 3pm (when I was in Rockville) I got a call from Christine telling me that the tech was on his way. I was really getting angry since this is not what we had agreed on. I told Christine that we had agreed on 5pm, and that that was the time I'd be home. At 4:45 (while I was zooming home to get there by 5pm), I got a call from Christine telling me that the tech would be at my house no later than 5:15. Long story short - 5:15 came and I called. I was told he was one his way. 5:45 came and I called again. I had already rescheduled another appt to accommodate this appt and had to leave by 6:20 to make it. I explained that I didn't want the tech to come and do a crappy, rushed job, and I was assured that he would be there and do a great job in time for me to make my 6:30 appt. Guess what? No tech, no call, nada. I left at 6:20, called the company (livid BTW) asking for Christine only to find out that she had gone home for the evening. I told the guy who answered that I wanted the owner to call me back - this was ridiculous. No call. I called back and got another lady who said that she was very sorry and she'd try to schedule something for Sat but if it rained they couldn't work, so they would make me the first appt (8-10) on the Friday after I returned from my trip. Well, today is the 31st. At around 9am, I got a call letting me know that - you guessed it - they were running late. I was promised that they'd be at my house by 10:30 and they arrived at 10:25. The tech knew nothing about the history of the small crack that they have been monitoring for the last 2 years, and I had to point it out to him. He told me nothing about how much soot was there and when I asked his partner, he didn't speak English & had no clue about what I was saying. They cleaned the chimney, and no one had told them that I had canceled the dryer vent cleaning, or that the cleaning price was discounted. I had to call and go through the drama again before it was cleared up. Never again will I use this company!!!!

They are very detailed in their inspection and are very good at what they do.

The chimney sweeps did not come within their indicated window appt., so I needed to reschedule their appointment. They used a shop vac to remove chimney dust. It ended up blowing dust all over my living room, which was just cleaned. Two men worked, one with a brush on the inside and another on the outside. I am not sure what he did besides inspect the top of the chimney. Overall, they spent 30 minutes, charged me the Angie's List reduced rate of $169, which is not their lowest rate. Apparently the Yellow Pages coupon offers a lower price of $159. Then they added an unknown-to-me-before-the-job-started fuel surcharge of $8.50 back in. The two men did not have good customer relations skills. I do not trust them and do not feel like I got my $177.50 worth.

Priddy Clean Chimney Sweeps This is a commendation regarding a positive experience with Priddy Clean Chimney Sweeps. I have a native stone chimney that had major leaks during a heavy rain. I searched Angie s List for a contractor and found the aforementioned company. After reading the many excellent reports by other users, I decided to use Priddy Clean. I requested an estimate; up front they advised that a $49.00 estimate fee would be charged at the time of the inspection, but it would be returned if I selected their company to do the work. The estimate was thorough and detailed for the work that was needed, and it itemized the cost for each task. The workers arrived as scheduled and work was completed as outlined in the estimate. A few days after the work was completed, we had several heavy downpours and the chimney did not leak. Priddy did an excellent job at a reasonable price.

The office had called us several times to remind us that it was time to get our chimney cleaned (we had asked for a reminder). They were able to fit us in within a few days. The two chimney cleaners showed up on time, one worked on the roof, the other worked inside at the wood stove. They finished within about a half hour. While most everything in the room was free of ash, there was a very light layer of dust/ash on my coffee table afterwords. I'm not sure if that could have been avoided or not. Everything else was left very clean. Overall a very good experience and I would use them again.

They are expensive but maybe not any more than anyone else. They were very efficient and courteous. They came back once to try to solve the problem again but they weren't able to solve it.

The paint is not evenly applied so there is still spots exposed, and they dripped black paint on my siding. I had called about the my dissatisfaction about the work and the office manager told me that she understood and that she would have someone come out to repaint the chimney cap and to try to get the paint off my aluminum siding. They were supposed to come out on 08/30/08 between 10-12 and no one ever showed up, nor did anyone call. On 09/02/08 I left a message for the office manager to call me back and I have yet to hear back from them. I have already paid them for work that was not completed satisfactorily. It is shoddy work that has not been completed.

They give a 10% discount to seniors and a $20 discount to Angie's List members. They are professional and they know what needs to be done, They give you some advise about what to watch for in your chimney. They do a good clean-up.
