I thought this would be a thorough inspection of my house and sum pump. I walked the technician around and pointed out areas that I thought might need waterproofing. Technician said that this was over his head and all he could do was look at the sum pump and tell his boss what might be needed for my house. He was there all of about 15 minutes.I felt like this just a come on to get business from me. Needless to say.....I am not going to have them back
Description of Work: Technician looked at sum pump and all was working fine.

This was the worst experiences I have ever had dealing with house repairs. I called Aquaguard based on recommendations to deal with basement water issues that were getting to be pretty bad after the hurricane in August 2011. The initial visit from the Aquaguard salesman was very good. He answered all of our questions and explained how, why and where the sump pump work should happen. He told me that he would personally oversee the work. He was a very very good salesman. Well some other crew showed up and they made a huge mess in my partially finished basement, more than expected. They didn't even put anything down over the grass in my yard when they mixed the concrete, leaving it a mess. Worst of all they broke the pipe that goes from the washing machine hose to the sewer line. Probably happened during the jackhammering. To be fair, it was an old pipe but there was no way they could not have seen the damage to the pipe while they were laying down the sump pump drains and pipes before they poured the concrete over everything. Aquaguard sent someone over to dig up the area again and investigate the problem, but when it became clear that it was sewer-line area repair the told me I had to deal with it and refused to compensate me in anyway. I had to hire another company to fix everything.

I feel like $175.00 was a lot of money to pay when the technician was here for about 10 minutes. I am glad he confirmed the sump pump was in good working condition.

The sales consultant, Bob, was very knowledgeable and approachable--he didn't talk over my head and explained everything very clearly. The foreman, Joe, was great as well. As he walked the work site with me, he showed evidence of the problem and how their solution was going to help. After the work was done, I got an estimate from another company to repair the floors (Aquaguard does not provide flooring tile installation). The independent flooring specialist commented that the concrete Aquaguard laid/spread was excellent and that installation should be a snap.
Description of Work: Installed a drain and pump water control system in my basement. Also performed repair on my concrete slab basement floor.

Description of Work: The sales rep was very evasive in working up a price pointing out all the problems others have with jobs they don't do. He was very unreasonable in price wanting to charge upward of $7 thousands for a small job. He also used unethical sales tactics by offering a lower price to start immediately but a much larger price if he did not get a sale immediately. I will never accept this nasty practice.

I had what looked like a leak on my basement but it turned out to be the water dripping from a value from the water heater. I was very upset with Aquaguard Waterproofing who came to look at it. They did not detect a very simple problem and were quoting me thousands of dollars asking me to get the whole basement waterproofed. It was really a very simple problem and they were quoting me extensive repairs. They turned out to be totally useless. They completely failed to diagnose the actual problem. I did not use them. I would like others to be very varying about using them because if they miss such a simple problem with me then they probably will try to make money out of other people. They came here in a reasonable amount of time. That was not a problem with them. They would have loved to have got $7000 to $8000 out of me for a dripping faucet. I am sure it would have cost me more than that if I had gone with them. I would never use them again in the future.

I called when the deal was posted, asked if they would check both pumps. They added a supplement and then called back the same day to schedule. They came the next day to check the pumps. We requested follow up concerning battery back up for the pumps. We were not called back, when I called them a second time they agreed to send an email proposal which has not happened yet.

The installation went smoothly. The installer had all the equipment he needed on hand. He also took the time to discuss other drainage issues I have been seeing. A neighbor's gutter flows into a low spot mostly on my property. We discussed some possible solutions and we hit on some good ideas.
Description of Work: Original service call was for a sump pump tune-up (Angie's List Big Deal). We have no basement waterproofing or flooding problems (which I had seen at my dad's old house). The sump pump was not working (as I suspected) and they quoted a fair price for a replacement and installation. I confirmed it was a good price by comparison shopping just for the pump on the Internet. The new pump was installed two days later. When I inspected the work with the installer, he spotted and corrected some minor builder issues related to the sump pump system (discharge pipe not well centered over the exterior drain).

The service was performed to my satisfaction. I had to wait for alomost a month before they could perform the job. They informed me that they were inundated with calls do to hurricane Irene. Overall, they did a great job and provided very reasonable pricing.
Description of Work: My basement flooded do to hurricane Irene. Cracks in the foundation allowed water to flood the basement. Aqua Guard, came in and water proofed the area which was flooding. They also put a sump pump in.
The pipes that lead out to the pump was old and not the right size. They came back out the next week to replace the sump pump as well as the piping. He kept me informed and even showed me pics of the sump pump. Everything is working great now. They were very courteous, followed up and I am very pleased with their service.

The following is a complaint letter that I sent to the head manager of Aquaguard. I sums up my experience. I am writing to convey to you my disappointment and frustration with the installation of my two basement egress windows. Upon initial consultation with your representatives Joseph, then later Mr. Stoney Coppage, I felt confident that Aquaguard would perform a professional job?sadly this was not the case. My wife runs a top-notch home daycare business, and Aquaguard placed the very nature of child care at risk. Below is a list of faults and discrepancies I noticed during my experience with Aquaguard. Please note that this list is not all inclusive of the complaints I have. 1. Wrong Windows Size Mr. Coppage and I agreed that the window size would be 36? width X 48? height. When I realized that your installer, Neil Brown, brought 48? X 48? he explained that the egress window requirement was 48? X 48?. My wife and I were now forced to redesign the layout of our furniture. 2. Disruption of Business Upon consultation, Mr. Coppage assured me that once the hole for the window is cut, the workers could enter and exit through that hole. Only after the job was already started, did Neil inform me that that could damage the framing of the window. The workers had no other choice but to come in and out the basement door disrupting the daycare area. 3. No Communication/Failure to Show or Call Neil and his crew began digging the holes for the window wells Thursday, 25 August and finished that same day. The next day, he simply dropped off the windows and materials for the well system. He did not perform any work that day, although the weather was fair. He explained to my wife that he would return early Saturday to start cutting through the wall. When she asked him if the storm would affect him, he said it would not. Neil never showed on Saturday, nor did he call. After the storm, the holes were filled with water, nearly to the top. Because I saw it as a flooding hazard, I tried calling Aquaguard three times throughout the weekend. Each time, the phone operators mentioned they would put my call in as URGENT, but I received no response. After speaking with you, I now know that your company?s phone service was disrupted over the weekend, but this doesn?t excuse Neil?s lack of communication. 4. No Precautions Taken for Dust The concern of dust was discussed during the consultation and was noted in the contract, especially considering the presence of daycare children. Before cutting the concrete, the workers failed to tape, cover and seal off the doors, vents, and furniture. My wife and I spent over 10 hours dusting, cleaning, vacuuming and steam cleaning the affected areas. Despite our efforts, dust still remains. In fact a daycare child?s parent mentioned his daughter was congested, and the child didn?t arrive for daycare the following two days. This now may affect our income. The window installation was supposed to enhance our home and business, not diminish it. After consulting professional cleaners, we realize multiple treatments and cleaning will have to be done as the dust may take days to settle. 5. Child Safety Hazard After the job was ?complete? (I use that term loosely), I found several shards of glass in my backyard where the daycare children play. We must now carefully comb through the mulch to ensure no other glass is present. 6. Electrical & Drywall Work Incomplete The contract states that core drilling would be done to electrically connect the sump pump. Only after speaking to you, the general manager, did an electrician show to drill and connect the sump pump. Since this was not done during the job, there are 4 holes in the drywall (the drywall which Neil just installed). The electrician said that he was not responsible to patch the wall. 7. Window Well Installation Incomplete On 1 September, after speaking with you, I noticed that one of the window wells isn?t flush with the foundation, nor does it have construction caulk where the edge of the well is supposed to meet the foundation. The other window well, however, is flush and caulked. Also I am awaiting a new screen which has a tear and a punctured hole. I showed this to Neil who said he would come back to replace it, but no specific time or date was given. Sir, your workers have the potential to do good work. They are lacking the small, common sense things?keeping the customer informed, covering our items with plastic so dust is minimized, cleaning up glass and debris after the job, walking the customer through the work that was performed. These things were NOT done and had a huge negative impact on my family and our home business. As for your salesmen and managers, I am simply appalled. It seems as though they would say anything to ?make the sale?, but there was no follow-up. There were three consultations and several phone calls before the signing of the contract. Once I signed and paid, I noticed that my deposit was promptly cashed, but it took weeks until I got a call just to schedule the work to be done. Mr. Buchanan I appreciate your call yesterday and trying to ?make things right??you seem to be the only one in your company who knows what customer service is. However, I?m afraid that I?ve already wasted too much of my time, money, and energy in our dealings. Because of the numerous problems, I consider your company?s action, or lack thereof, as a breach of contract. The $2,000 balance that I supposedly owe Aquaguard, is nowhere near the cost of time and money we?ve already spent cleaning, the cost that I will spend to have the areas clean, or the cost of potential loss of income due to children not coming to daycare. Parents trust our family to properly care for and protect their children, and Aquaguard has jeopardized that and our business?s reputation. As I mentioned to you before, I am disgusted and regret that I chose your company to perform this work, and I will never do business with Aquaguard again. Note: Mr. Buchanan did offer to pay for the carpet and vent cleaning that I hired out. This was is way to "make things right," which I appreciated, but because no one came out to finish the installation, that expense came from my pocket and I had no more dealings with Aquaguard. About three weeks from me sending the above letter, I received a response letter stating that Aquaguard would not warranty the job unless I pay the remaining balance. I find it almost laughable because THEY NEVER FINISHED THE JOB! How can they 1) warranty a job that's not completed or 2) expect me to pay for an incomplete job? I patched the drywall holes myself. I bought materials and tools to complete Aquaguard?s job. I also plan to caulk the one well that wasn?t caulked and sealed, and then I will purchase a new screen. I (the customer) will finish the job. Perhaps I should be on Aquaguard's payroll.
Description of Work: Aquaguard Waterproofing installed 2 egress window wells in my basement. The contract included excavation and relocation of soil, cutting foundation wall, installing 2 48"X48" windows, and installing 2 sump pumps. The work done was not 100% complete.

This company was very reluctant to actually schedule us. Twice they failed to return our calls for an appointment and only did so after we mentioned that we would write this report. Perhaps we weren't geographically convenient or the price wasn't enticing. Nevertheless, when the service was scheduled, their serviceman showed up on time and appeared to do a good job. Unfortunately he was not fluent in English and there was some difficulty in communications. He did find that we needed to extend the sump pump outside drain farther from the house and charged us $40 extra to do so. This was probably a reasonable fee and he seemed to do proper work with it. This company is probably very good overall but they would not be my first choice in the future for similar work.

We tried to cancel the free estimate the weekend before and they would not cancel the appointment---they kept my husband on the phone explaining why we should hire them and why we should not go with other companies. They wanted to still come by, give an estimate for work. By today we had found another company who we trust and have hired---we didn't want to waste anyone's time with an estimate when another company was committed to the job. Early this morning (the date of the estimate) my husband called, made sure the appointment was canceled and that no one was coming for our evening appointment. They told him someone should still come by because they would beat any offer by 10%. We told them no thank you. An employee unexpectedly showed up to my home this evening. I told him the appointment had been canceled. He did not believe me/was not informed of this so he called the office. They said the appointment had not been canceled. I apologized to him and said it had. He said he should stay and do the free estimate. I told him it wasn't needed. Someone at the office told him to ask if he could re-schedule the appointment. I said no. He made a comment about "some other company must have really got them good" and with that he left. I have never dealt with such a desperate, pushy company. Their tactics are manipulative and mean. I am very thankful we have hired another company for the work we need.

I called several water proofing companies after spending an entire night dry vacuuming the water left from Hurricane Irene. I received timely responses from all companies; however, Aquaguard left the best impression. Right from the beginning, Kevin, the inspector seemed to be up front and very knowledgable of my particular issue. He came in and conducted a thorough inspection of my basement and front exterior of my home. He provided several options to rectify the water and some that I could have performed myself. The problem with the do it your self is that is what was done prior to me buying the house so I was more interested in a more permanent solution. I decided to go with Aquaguard's water proofing system after listening to Kevin explain how the system works and the fact that it comes with a life time transferrable warranty. I'll add that the warranty wouldn't have been a selling point if they had not been in business for over 20 years. At the end of the inspection I was sure that Aquaguard was the right choice. Likes: honest, to the point, knowledgeable, and professional. Dislikes; slightly pushy, offered a lower price deal if I signed on the spot (prefer to have the deal offered up front). The installation: Very professional crew and would hire them again in a NY minute. I got a bit antsy the morning they arrived because Kevin told me during the inspection that there would be a foreman on site the entire time. Nick was identified as the foreman; however, Jose arrived by himself and told me that Nick would be there later in the day. I asked Jose not to start any work until I spoke to Nick. Nick called me within in minutes after I halted the work and reassured me that Jose was the best they had and that I had nothing to be concerned about. I'll add that Nick was very professional and defused the situation rather than escalating it into something else. I agreed to allow Jose to continue and quickly saw that he knew what he was doing after he answered all my questions and was very well informed of the solution Kevin and I discussed. No complaints what so ever with the crew, their work ethic, knowledge, etc. Additionally, Denny, the site supervisor, was on site the entire second day. Likes; A++ for the work crew. Dislikes; nothing at the moment but will let you know if my basement continues to leak. Timeliness; work was performed as described and no delays. Demolition; I was told that I could expect wall demolition of up to 6 inches of my drywall and wall studs removed. The crew was able to work around without removing any drywall or floor trim. A++ Clean up; A++...not like they found it because I'm extremely picky but great job at making it look like they had not been there at all. They removed all of the debris, shop vacuumed the floor, cleaned the driveway and even wiped down the floor trim that they saved. One of the best clean up jobs I've seen from semi heavy demolition. Price; I'll be the first to admit that I'm frugal which is why I gave them a B rating for price; however, I have to say that their price to french drain my entire basement came in lower than other companies who wanted to do partial fixes. I was warned through reading about sales reps offering a much lower price to sign on the spot so I threw the dice. In this instance, and for now, I fell like it was a good call. Still standing by to see if the water is gone for good. Overall fantastic experience and highly recommend their service if you're looking for a decent price, informed sales, and professional work ethic. .
Description of Work: My basement started leaking during Hurricane Irene. I apparently had leaks that I was not aware of because there was some signs of minor water damage under the carpet. The odd thing is I never had a bad smell or noticed anything except for an occasional damp spot in the carpet next to one of the interior walls. The solution I chose was to install an interior french drain around the interior perimeter of my basement and run it to a sump pump. In addition and at no additional charge, Aquaguard installed a box drain to to replace my exterior pipe drain and ran that to the sump pump in the event my exterior drain ever clogged.

Found this company after we moved into a new home that had a musty smell in the basement. The guy that came out, Kevin, told me that he couldn't find any water in the basement, no water damage, etc. Suggested a EZ Breathe vent system (said it vents environmental hazards outside, as well as functions as a dehumidifier), and I was sort of on board with this, because I figured our closed-in basement just needed some air circulation or something. He quoted me about a $2,000 price, and we countered back at $1,500. He made the infamous phone call to his higher-up, and said that he could offer the $1500 if we agreed today. We wanted more time to think, the Kevin seemed hesitant to offer us the price if we didn't act that night. We signed up, told we have 3 days to cancel if we wanted, but they didn't even give us 3 days to consider--they called the following day to set up installation. A couple months later I had them return because I was still smelling the musty smells. They sent a guy named RJ, who was supposed to be Kevin's supervisor. He said my poured concrete walls could be leaking water in....and that an open drain in the basement could be contributing to the smell, and suggested we spent $600 to cap off this drain. He did no other inspection. Fast forward a few months--still musty smells from the basement, and we suddenly had 80% humidity in our basement according to my hygrometer. It was doing nothing for dehumidifying, as stated. I had to eventually spent a couple hundred on a standard dehumidifier anyhow. When I called the company back, they sent RJ again. And once again, no inspection. I mentioned the lack of dehumidifying and musty smells. Told him I had found little drops of water on the floor in some spots, and he said it was hydrostatic pressure from water pressure on the walls, and that we would need a pressure relief system installed, which would cost over $5000. I told him I simply wanted my money back on the EZ Breathe system, because why would Kevin sell me that when HE should have told me there was a problem with water pressure, that we wasted $1,500! RJ said that if we went through with the pressure relief system, then he would give me a discount on the pressure relief system to compensate for the EZ Breathe system (in other wise, they would "buy it back from me" as he stated). I was disappointed that he wasn't going to provide any refund--only "refund" if I spend additional money. He ended up giving me 3 references for people that have had the pressure relief system installed. I did not call these people, because in all honestly, I wouldn't want them to do any more work in my house, regardless of how positive the reference may have been. The problem I have is, if this pressure relief system is what we needed, why didn't someone tell us that from the beginning?? Why didn't RJ do an inspection? Seems like they are just throwing expensive solutions, and they haven't convinced me that the procedure is what we really need. I would NOT use this company again.
Description of Work: Bought an EZ Breathe system, which didn't help the problem for which we had bought it. Later, tried to quote more for more expensive procedures.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal coupon for $175 for a sump pump tune-up. Henry arrived on time, was very professional, and cleaned and flushed my sump pump. He tested the pump and battery backup system and said that everything is in good working order. I was relieved to have it checked out.
Description of Work: Cleaned and flushed my sump pump, and tested the pump and battery backup system.

This company did an adequate job of performing the service I paid them for. Their price was higher than others but we went with a recommendation... big mistake! Their service was horrible!! They ran behind schedule and didn't get back to me after repeated attempts for a status update. When I escalated to a manager, I got a huge ATTITUDE from the service man on the phone, then he LIED and sent me to his friend, who was not a manager at all!! The friend got an attitude with me on the phone also as he was pretending to be the manager! I finally found this out and got to speak to a real manager, but he also acted like my expectations for status updates were too high. He didn't apologize or take accountability for his employees FALSIFYING WHO THEY WERE! I would steer clear of this company!
Description of Work: Two sump pums were installed in my basement to eliminate recurring flooding.

The technician did not perform the 10 point inspection advertised in the deal of the day description. Nor did he give me a verbal or written assessment of my sump pump system or make suggestions to improve its efficiency (e.g., marine battery back up for pump, etc.). I was very disappointed and will think twice before buying another deal of the day.
Description of Work: I responded to a Angie "deal of the day" to have my sump pump tuned up/inspected by Aquaguard Waterproofing. The deal of the day described the sump pump tune up to include a 10-point inspection of the sump pump system and a determination/confirmation of the discharge system, etc.
