They did a quick and professional.

Contacted them due to previous work installing a new roof on a screened porch. It took them a day to get back, but they are a great company that has been in business for a Looooong time. They provided me with a quote and a tenative date for the install, weather dependent. Gavin the project manager was good at keeping me informed of the status of the crews schedule. When you choose a roofer, you pick someone who is going to install the shingles and accessories correctly. Because you can buy the best shingles on the market but if they are not installed correctly, the roof will LEAK. It is the installer that is most important, not the type of shingle. That is why large companies choose Ruff Roofers, because they trust them to be there if something happens 10 years down the road. I could have bought the shingles at HomeDepot or some other home improvement store and got 4 guys in the back of a pickup truck with a ladder and a hammer to install the roof for a fraction of the cost of Ruff Roofers. But when the big storm hits, I want to make sure that roof will be able to withstand the weather and not leak. And if for some reason, something does happen, Ruff Roofers will be around, unlike the 4 guys in the pickup truck who have taken your money and fled the state or renamed their company.

In the final analysis, we are pleased that the roof has stopped leaking and feel the work was done to industry standards. Getting to this point was somewhat difficult given that the company let our work slip through the cracks in terms of scheduling and applying for the permits needed. I only learned this when I called the historic preservation commission and found out that the company had yet to do the permits and the work was already late to begin. HOWEVER, once I contacted one of the owners, they put someone on this and things really started to move. I was impressed with how quickly things turned around when I sent in the complaint. That is why I would work with them again. Things happen when a company is busy, but the fact that the owner put some special oversight on what is, in the grand scheme of their business, a small job, impressed me greatly.

In the beginning, it was hard to get a hold of them and to get calls back regarding the quote and the project. Once we signed the quote, everything moved quickly and communication was very good. We had the cell phone number of our Project Manager, Kevin, and his response time was very good. Everything with the roof was completed in short order and they did a fantastic job! We really didn't have any issues with them at all. I highly recommend them--just know that to get a hold of them initially is painful. It may take SEVERAL calls and messages to get connected. Once you have a contract with them their communciation and follow through is excellent.

The work turned out pretty good. They came out amazingly quick to pick the slates before another storm came and saved me from water damage.

No return call, called them in the Spring, not like ti was after a major storm.

Estimator arrived promptly for scheduled visit. He quickly submitted the written proposal for the work and a couple options, as requested. I signed and returned the proposal/contract and followed up with a phone call. I was told the office would call to confirm an installation date. I received a call at 7:00 AM one morning, not from the office, but from the worker who was at the supply store and wanted to know what type and color gutters he was supposed to install and that he was on his way to do the work that morning. The worker arrived later that morning. He was a sub-contractor, not the original roofing company. He showed me the covers he was going to install which were not what had been identified by the estimator. I showed the installer the brochure the estimator gave me. He said he would have to get those covers another day. He unloaded his truck, started to do the work and stopped because he didn't have the brackets appropriate for the type of roof/gutters being installed. He left most of the supplies and said he would be back in a few days. He did return several days later, without calling ahead, and installed the gutters and down spouts. He said he didn't have the covers, but would return and install them in a few days. A few days later I received an invoice from Ruff Roofers' controller by e-mail. I replied that the work was not finished (the covers had not been installed). The controller replied that the project manager advised him that they were installed. I replied with a photo showing they were not installed. The sub-contractor arrived (unannounced) then next day and installed the covers. By this point we had had several rains and it was apparent the replaced gutters were not draining correctly because they had low spots in the middle. I called the estimator who came out promptly and agreed that the gutters needed to be re-hung with a proper pitch. The sub-contractor returned (unannounced) in few days and re-hung the gutters. I was not pleased the work was done by a sub-contractor without being told this would happen. I was not at all pleased with the communication with the office (scheduling, invoicing, etc.) or their communication with the sub-contractor, since he clearly didn’t know anything about the job until he called me and/or showed up to do the work. I was also not pleased that there was no follow up inspection by Ruff Roofers until I complained about the work. The final work product is passable (it does carry away the water), but not great (looks crude in places).

They were efficient, clean and neat. They also came in at a good price. Did a great job, overall! I would highly recommend them.

We got estimates from four different companies and decided to go with RuffRoofers because their written estimate was the most thorough and professional. However, the interaction with the office was disappointing. We sent a fax and made multiple phone calls, and were told, when we called, that "someone would get back to us" to set a date. That never happened despite multiple phone calls. Eventually, we decided to go with another company, and phoned to cancel. They called us back immediately and said they had us on the schedule for the following Monday, and that the materials had already been ordered so that we couldn't back out. We then asked to scale back the scope of the project (do the roof only, not the side areas.) The company was okay with this, and the final price was okay. They came on the scheduled day and performed the work neatly. My only quibble with the installation process is that they did not ask to review with us the areas in need of replacement wood. We had to take their word for it once the bill came in (for about 40 linear feet, which seemed like a lot). In addition, the bill we received after the work was completed had the original quote (for the roof plus the sides), rather than the quote for the work that was actually performed. We had to call them yet again, at which point they sent out a corrected bill. In short, the work was satisfactory, the price was satisfactory, but the communication between the office, the customer, the salesman, and the installers was disappointingly poor.

A representative came out to look at it almost a week and a half after I called. That person told me that a quote would be coming to me within a few days after his visit - fair enough. I never heard from them again. I don't have time to remind a company to get back to me so that I can pay them to do their job. Luckily they were not the only one I requested a quote from.

Everything went really well. They showed up right when they said they would. They were very professional, courteous, clean, and showed us pictures of the roof after they finished it. It was a small job, so instead of sending someone out for an estimate, they just sent out a team to do the job. We haven't had a leak since.

They took a little while to come out, but they were probably very busy. When they came out they did an excellent job and they did it at a very good price.

They came out on time, did a nice job, cleaned up, and had a nice price. We are very happy with them.

We appreciated the prompt reply and honest service. Ruff Roofers responded promptly to an email requesting an inspection, then sent out an inspector, who reported nothing wrong and no need for further services. There was no charge.

Good value for the money. On time. Professional work, Freddie is a great foreman. I highly recommend them.

They did a very good job and the price was fair. Took them about 8 weeks to do the work although that was what I was told from all other roofers at the time.

Low of three estimates but good reputation; overall project finished in 3 and 1/2 days

Like most of the good roofers in Baltimore, it is very difficult to get Ruff to come out. Repeated calls always seem to be required. For this most recent job, it took me 6 or more calls before the work started. Once they are out, they do very good work, and their level of professionalism is very high. Part of our problem is we have flat roofs, and many roofers won't even consider working on them. For this latest job, we decided to replace the roofs after having many problems with leaks over the years, and Ruff put on a rubberized roof which should last longer than the tar kind. I wish there was a roofer in Baltimore that did quality work and was also responsive, but I have yet to find one; only the low-quality roofers have gotten back to me quickly. I have used half a dozen different roofers in my 20 years in Baltimore, and I plan to continue to use Ruff until I hear about a more responsive roofer.

Overall very positive experience. The teardown and basic installation was completed in one day. Then it took a few weeks to get the flashing completed. They are supposed to come back and rehang the gutters and have not done that yet. The roof was completed professionally by competent workmen and we have no complaints.

I called to get an estimate and had someone there to do the work the next morning. I was a little confused by the process - I didn't realize the estimator could actually complete the job. He seemed to do a good job though, and the price seemed reasonable.

Overall they were excellent and very responsive. The work was done in a timely fashion. It doesn't leak and looks great. The job clean-up was not excellent, there were lots of nails and cigarette butts in the yard.

RUFF ROOFERS DID AN EXCELLENT JOB IN THE TIME THEY QUOTED. THEY DID A GOOD JOB OF CLEANING UP MATERIALS AS THEY WENT ALONG AND LEFT THE YARD WITH NO EXTRA DEBRIS AT THE END OF THE PROJECT.
