Pablo, Sergio and Jose were all a pleasure to work with-- punctual, polite and very reliable. The quality of their work is excellent. I have hired many workers and this group is, by far, the absolute best. The work was done on time and very thoroughly and the price was reasonable. They were very neat and conscientious and also just very, very nice. Highly recommend.
Description of Work: Machioli construction installed a tiled backsplash in my kitchen. Pablo told me how much tile to order and was specific about bullnose tile needed, grout, etc I hired this company a second time to do various jobs around my very old home. He and his crew repaired plaster, drywall, installed bathroom fan, enclosed ductwork, painted, and electrical work.

Highly unprofessional and irresponsible - BEWARE! I had spoken with the owner to schedule an estimate for work to be done on a front porch and basement remodel. Owner has asked I confirm the appointment via email in case he forgot to mark it in his calendar. This should have been a good indication of things to come, but I ignored my better judgment. I sent the confirmation via email. On the morning of the appointment (for which I took off work), after a half-hour had passed I called the company and left a message asking what was wrong. I called again in the afternoon and left a second message voicing my displeasure. Two days later, I received a return call with an apology for missing the appointment and an explanation that he never wrote down the details, did not check his email, and was too busy for the last few days to check the voicemail. I can't understand how a company with such a lack of professionalism can remain in business. Of the 6 contractors I contacted through Angie's list for my job estimate, this is the only one that failed to show for the appointment. Just glad this didn't happen in the middle of a job.

Machioli construction was great to work with. From start to finish, Pablo was very receptive to any questions we had and he was always easy to get a hold of. His guys showed up when he said they would be there, and he finished the project within the timeframe that he estimated it would take to complete. They did a very good job of being un-obstrusive and cleaning up after themselves. We were very pleased with the quality of the work that they performed in all aspects of the job. You could tell that Pablo's first priorty is doing quality work the right way. We would definitely recommend/use them again.

Like I wrote above, it was smooth sailing all through. They were easy to get in touch with, flexible for my crazy schedule even during the holidays, finished everything beautifully and on time. And they were fun to work with. And my dog liked them, which is really a key for me!
Description of Work: Machioli Construction remodeled a powder room for me recently. They were wonderful to work with! Everything was done on time and on budget. Pablo had interesting ideas to help me out, and was able to do anything I asked. Some of what I wanted was very vague, and some of what I wanted was very specific, and he was able to work with me easily on both. They did a beautiful job, were easy to get in touch with at all times, cleaned up everything, and I am so happy with my powder room!

We got 3 or 4 local home repair contractors to estimate the job. Most of the other contractors estimated the job exclusively from the perspective of replacing the whole column, after a very superficial inspection, at costs ranging up to $900 for the job. Mr. Machioli inspected the column carefully and, while he brought up the option of total replacement (at substantial cost), he first pointed out that the column itself was quite sound and only the rotten base needed to be replaced--at a much lower total cost. After a couple of unavoidable delays due to unexpected bad weather, the Machioli crew showed up promptly at the agreed time and replaced the deteriorated base with a new one very quickly and efficiently. They did a great job of matching the rotted portion they replaced with good quality lumber, and not only painted the new portion but repainted the rest of the column to give the whole job a uniform, fresh look. They left the work area super-clean and we are very pleased with the result. Mr. Machioli came by in person to make sure we were satisfied with the work his employees had done. A "good as new" column for less than half the price of other quotes means a lot to retirees on fixed incomes.
Description of Work: We got bids from several local contractors to repair a rotted base under a porch column. This involved raising the porch roof slightly (and carefully) to take the load off the column, moving aside the column to remove the remnants of the failed base, and inserting a new wooden base cut to match the old base, including a bit of decorative woodwork along the edges. The roof was then re-settled on top of the column and had to be checked for alignment, any disturbance to the joint, etc. Finally, (at least) the new wood needed to be sealed and painted.

Pablo was great about breaking the job down to the individual cost elements staying on budget. He was flexible when we had changes. He worked very very quickly and when he needed to connect and work with the plumber he did very well. Pablo's strengths are... Cleanliness, pace, attention to detail, and pice. As well, I would say Pablo is a bit of an artist, what I mean is, that if you had a complex job and wanted creative ideas, Pablo is your man. He was great working around our 4 children and dealing with our 200 lb English Mastiff, Henry. We will miss Pablo and his crew (espcially Henry will miss him) and are actively looking for other work for him in our house.
Description of Work: We live in an old Roland Park 8 bedroom house. Machioli (Pablo) turned a third floor bedroom into a bathroom!!! Amazing. The trickey part of the job, in order to conserve space, he installed a beautiful tiled shower into what was a closet of the bedroom! Heeeee. Heeeee. It was a great idea and a tricky a job, but Pablo and his team from Uruguay were awesome.

Instantly, when I made a walk-through with Pablo, I was hopeful to retain his services for work to be done on a foreclosure on Manor Road near Sweet Air Road. I had read many good reports here extolling the services of Machioli Construction, and Pablo's fairness in trying to do the best he can for his customers. He seems to be one that really gets it: the best advertisement that a service company can get is word-of-mouth. Of course no one is perfect, be it the company, or the household that hires someone for services to be performed. As we tried getting estimates, I was instantly attracted to the way Pablo took the time to explain his scope of work, and how he wished to work with us to provide the best service he could for the price. But he also mentioned about not wanting to do work that would be considered inferior. We wound up looking for two more estimates, but I told my wife that day, that I hoped that Pablo would be the one we would retain. As we attempted to get all the contract work estimates together for a full 203k renovation (we expected about $60,000 total in repairs), I found it difficult to get Pablo to write an estimate. It concerned me, but I learned that an office member in his company had to take an emergency leave. Pablo assured me that we would get his estimate, and so he carved an appointment with me today, after I checked with a structural engineering specialist on the condition of the home. Just hours ago, we just discovered that the foreclosure we had put our hopes and efforts into, has a rotting sill plate that is expected to fail within 5-10 years, according to "The Foundation Expert" (another business we love, after discovering Sam's company on Angie's List - I will write a glowing report commending them as well). That news kicked the wind from my chest, and I had to tell my wife that the home we had hoped to purchase in Baldwin, was too much of a gamble. The news hurt so much, but was also a relief because our contract date was 12 days from today. I needed to tell Pablo, and upon explaining the news, he was very understanding. The kind of process of shoring up an historic home to replace rotted sill plates will come to six figures, and we hadn't even added all the other things like the newer portion of the foundation, comprehensive plumbing, electrical, and mold remediation. On top of that, we had hoped that Pablo could have worked on expansion of the master bathroom, deck work, and other considerations that dissolved into a dream by the eye-opening assessment from Sam. I assured Pablo, that we want to retain his services from now on. We still have our home not more than three blocks from Pablo's business, and we intend to retain his services in the near future. I value any person willing to stand by his work, and my gut instinct (and the glowing reports from others here) tells me that he'll be hired by Denarah and me, to do work no matter where we live. If Pablo's services or work ethic are questioned, he tries hard to make it right. He has pride in his family name, and wants to be fair and do fair, for his customers. A footnote: I'm no expert on what it takes to keep a home standing and healthy, as I'm a photographer. But I have learned valuable things that we can take with us as we pursue a good place to call our next home. I have also learned that many companies doing work now, have been inundated by the extent of unusual circumstances since even this summer. The mid-Atlantic area has gone through an earthquake (structural engineering, foundation, carpentry, masonry), a hurricane (plumbing, electrical, foundation), and an unusual 3-inch rainstorm (carpentry, plumbing, drywall, mold). Many of the companies I've attempted to get estimates from, have been hammered by a high number of service requests, especially since a number of contractors have left the business because of the economic downturn. Please understand that these guys are still trying to complete work as new work is needed. It helps with being patient to not think that everyone is blowing us off when, in fact, they're doing what they can to do the best work they can.
Description of Work: Pablo came out to the home we hope to purchase and did a walk-through, based on the findings of a home inspection report done. Pablo made a preliminary estimate but the scope of actual work would be modified, based on more detail on how much we could spend for desired services.

Overall the experience with Machioli was outstanding. We first contacted them because we were coming off a very bad experience with another contractor. Joyce and Pablo were a complete 180 from that. Joyce initially came out for the consult, measured, listened to what we wanted and what our budget was. Then if we wanted to move forward there was a $200 fee for design (which would eventually be carried over in to the cost of the project). When the first design came back, we had a few tweaks and Joyce was very willing to make changes to accomodate our wants and our budget (less concrete, pea gravel alternative). We loved the tweaked design and the time frame they were willing to complete the work so we moved forward with the contract. Once the work commenced, the crew was on time, all the time and very professional. Joyce was there to oversee all of the work and it was a pleasure seeing her there each day just in case we had any questions (when we did have questions or tweaks, they were answered/addressed in a timely manner). They even did extra work with our nieghbor (who was splitting the cost of the shared fence). When Pablo would come by, he would inspect the work that was done and at some times make changes such as when he had the crew rebuild the roof because he wanted more support. The pictures of our project are on their page here under landscape - please refer to those for the quality of the work (which was excellent). Another item of note is how clean Machioli is throughout the project. They always clean and debris or trash after every day of work. It is very important to them. We highly recommend Machioli Construction for your project and we would use them again for our next one.
Description of Work: Joyce, Pablo and crew turned our useless, overgrown, lopsided backyard in to a space that we can entertain and enjoy for many years to come. Here is what they did: -Removed existing concrete sidewalk (length of backyard) and concrete under porch. -Removed existing grass and excavate -Remove existing chain link fence (shared with neighbor and in the back) -Remove existing, rotting wood/metal awning/roof overhang -Re-grade the entire area for optimal water drainage -Install footers for porch that was unstable -Poured concrete patio, sidewalk, area under porch all the way to the basement steps and the house, also poured a "curb" along the bottom of neighbor's fence to prevent rodents from coming under. (all concrete was leveled) The patio was aprox 12'x9' and the sidewalk was 3'x30' -Installed 2 pea gravel "beds" flanking the concrete each bed was 8'x8' -Installed a custom built shadowbox fence along the back and entire side shared with neighbor - 5' high -Installed a custom rounded latched gate at the end of the sidewalk -Installed custom built planter beds along left side of the property and the back -Installed a built-in bench for seating at length of concrete slab in between gravel beds -Installed 8 mature arborvitae trees in planter beds -Installed lavender behind bench -Scored concrete to give effect of bigger symmetrical blocks -Installed new custom roof/overhang of corrugated metal and wood. (extended 8' from house) -Redirected downspout and drainage to go underneath planter beds -Installed custom built corrugated metal privacy screen to block neighbor -Hauled all debris/waste from site throughout the job

I contacted Machioli Construction Company on October 10th via email and received a response within 24 hours. I met with owner Pablo Machioli on the 11th to discuss the project. Pablo arrived on time for our appointment. He emailed the estimate the same day and I signed the contract on the 12th. Work commenced on the 14th per the contract and was completed on the 28th, again, per the agreement. Pablo's crew, Sergio, Adrian and Jose showed up on time each day and worked hard. The first hour of the first day was spent protecting the floors and carpets with paper and plastic coverings. There were no wasted moments. They seemed genuinely concerned that each task was done correctly. They treated the job as if they owned the company. There was one moment when my impression of what was to be done (baseboards) differed from theirs, but it was resolved within minutes after a quick call to Pablo. Pablo's tile men, Roosevelt and Samwell do great work! At the end of each day, the crew would ask if everything was okay with the work done so far. Pablo checked in daily to view the work and ask if I was satisfied. Each evening the site was left broom clean and organized. Upon completion the crew did a fine cleanup and asked if I had a mop so that they could mop any remaining dust off the floors. Pablo and crew were professional, easier to work with and conscientious. I would use Machioli Contruction Company again without hesitation. I especially appreciated that any changes to the contract were in writing. work!

Pablo and his team were great to work with. My husband is an architect and has very specific requirements regarding quality and service and this company met his every need. Pablo was easy to reach, offered great suggestions to maximize our small spaces, and performed the jobs in a timely manner. He was very responsive to any questions or changes we needed to make along the way. The team was very conscientious about cleaning up each day, which made living in a construction zone much easier. We did have some schedule glitches due to the hurricane, but the team worked hard to meet the deadline working late into evenings. They presented a competitive price within our timeline and allowed us to purchase our own materials. We we highly recommend this company.

I was really pleased with Pablo and his team. They did a wonderful job for a reasonable price- the ceiling looks like it had never been damaged at all, and it hasn't leaked since (knock on wood)- not even during the hurricane!
Description of Work: After several days of heavy rain, the damaged roof on my porch took in so much water, that a portion of the ceiling on my first floor gave in and collapsed. Pablo, Adrian, and the rest of his workers re-sealed the roof damage, and repaired the former plaster ceiling with new drywall, while keeping a light fixture in place.

They didn’t charge us anything because it was a deal on whatever we pay through Angie’s List. He was fine and we told him that he could take his time to submit whatever we wanted to hurry. It did take him a little while but we gave him that right. We really have no complaints about him, but we didn’t use his services yet.

It was wonderful. We spent a lot of money because we had to upgrade our kitchen. We decided to do the basic things but we kept upgrading. So we ended up spending a lot. The experience was very good. It’s absolutely beautiful. His friendliness, professionalism, knowledge and the ability to perform were all outstanding. We would highly recommend the guy who did the work for us. He’s a perfectionist. He’s an artist and he has a good eye for this kind of work. His suggestions were worth while. He usually does twenty projects and we were purchasing things on our own that he was installing and replacing. So the pricing for his services was very good. We would use his services again in the future.

Pablo is the owner of the company and he was very punctual in his response to me after my initial voice mail. He was polite and we scheduled a time for him to come out give me an estimate. He arrived when he said he would gave me some suggestions on the work I requested and provided a written estimate within 72 hours. He then brought by some of his work crew to explain to them what I wanted and they were also very nice and courteous. We had a few miscommunications in terms of the start up date but Pablo quickly appologized. He arrived on the start date with his crew and quickly got to work. They were very professional and clean. They did exactly as they said they would do and finished when they agreed too. Pablo stated that he prides himself on quality of workmanship and delivering the best customer service possible. I think he is accurate in his loyalty and committment to the customer. I have referred my father to him for some work in his house. I obtained 3 other estimates from angie's list companies and none of them were even close in price nor professionalism.
Description of Work: The company replaced paneling in a bedroom on two walls with drywall. They also replaced the baseboards and molding around the floor. Additionally they rebuilt a window sill inside and outside and caulked around the entire outside window.

Initially, I had asked for a breakdown of the total estimate by each job, so that I could better compare with other estimates. The owner kept saying he would do this, but on the first day of the job, showed up without the contract in hand, said he did not do it, but will. Since he did not have the contract, i had to dig through my basement, which was in disarray to get to our printer to print a copy. He started 1 week later than planned because he was still finishing another job. I told him I didn't mind that because that meant he would do the same for us. In the middle of the job, we decided to floor the entire basement, instead of just the perimeter (which had been dug up). He was okay with this, and added a fee of $575. The last bits of the project dragged on longer than the estimated finish date. When I would call him, he would say "I'm sorry, I am very busy, I have other jobs." To sum up my complaints: Started late, finished late, was way overpriced, did not arrive when he said he would. However, the work was good, but still not worth the trouble.
Description of Work: Basement floor: vinyl pulled up, square vinyl tiles placed. Basement window replaced with glass block and dryer vent routed through this. One basement wall finished with drywall and painted. Carpet relaid with new padding (had gotten wet). Back gate latch fixed.

100% Satisfaction!!! Pablo and his crew are great to work with! Very friendly, professional, timely, clean, quiet, and non-smokers. They made sure floors and cabinets were covered so as not to harm finish. They were on time - always! Kept in touch via phone on a daily basis. Helped with colors and material choices. Kept within my budget. No hidden costs or problems. Happily worked with me when I needed to leave town for family funeral. Easy to talk to and happy to answer questions. Even the screws on the electrical outlets were all in the same direction. Attention to every detail! Absolutely the Best! No need to look further. You will be completely satisfied!!

I spent $5000 on that work. They are honest. They know their work. They are extremely courteous and eager to please. I am not an easy customer and I received everything and more. I would recommend them to others. They were very responsive. They were professional. They came to my house fully prepared. They had their credentials, their sketches and they made me know that they wanted to do the job. I will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I used Machioli Construction LLC towards the end of last summer and the beginning of fall for landscaping and hardscaping work.

Pablo, Sergio and the crew were great. From start to finish my Husband and I were really impressed with how things progressed. We did not have a back-up bathtub or shower to use while they were doing the work, so Pablo said they would try and finish as fast as possible. Pablo and his crew began the job on 9/3/10 and were finished by 9/13/10. They worked every day including week-ends and even on Labor Day to complete the job. It was so refreshing to have "Machioli Constrution Company"remodel our bathroom. It was obvious that they take pride in their work.We are extremely pleased with the results and would not hesitate to use or recommend Pablo Machioli for any type of remodeling. He even took the time to give me dance lessons, which I must say he dances very well also....
