This is an 80 year old summer cottage that was converted (not very well) to year round living and purchased 11 years ago. It has a crawl space that is about 18" deep. We have been having sewer main line and kitchen drain line backups periodically over the past 10 years. Drain Sights snaked our current kitchen drain blockage to find heavy grease and recommended jetting the line. After investigation into the crawl space it was determined there were an unusually large number of bends on the drain pipe, apparently installed over the years during renovations. Mike, the owner, suggested installing a 2-way cleanout on the line to help with future maintenance. When the pipe was removed to install the cleanout the section was full of grease, other than the void made by the snake. The cleanout was installed and the line was jetted back to the kitchen and through the main line. Mike the owner was here the entire time, working together with Billy his helper and answering all our questions. They were very friendly and cooperative considering the filthy and cramped working conditions. We couldn't be happier with their work. Also, we couldn't be any happier with the price, after our experiences using other plumbers, who were not as thorough.
Description of Work: Snake a blocked sewer pipe, installed a 2-way cleanout and jet the entire sewer drain pipe.

Mike jetted out our sewer line from our basement to the curb as we requested. We also had him replace our sump pump which was not operational. He was prompt and professional. His price was far below his competitors. I would highly recommend him to our friends and neighbors.

Everything was fine. There were 2 gentlemen that came and knew what they were doing and they identified and solved the problem. They're professional and experienced. They were on top of it and make sure everything's clean. It was a messy job too. They were here for a couple of hours. They got everything done and I think it was reasonable. They're a good company.
Description of Work: They cleaned up the pipes because the piping was clogged. The sewer system is old and it's never been cleaned. They have some kind of equipment to power wash the pipe.

I called Drain Sights this morning at just after 9am and explained my problem. They arrived about 10:15, explained the procedure, worked around my logistical quirks, and were cleaned up, packed up, and out the door by 11:00. While I wasn't thrilled with spending unanticipated money on a plumber this month, if I had to do it again, I'll definitely call them first!

Nothing like starting your Saturday with a clogged kitchen sink. I thought some professional strength drain cleaner would do the trick but after a quick trip to the store I returned to find more nasty water in the sink and water spreading on the countertop. After waiting without success for the drain cleaner to work, I knew I needed an emergency plumber. After a few unsuccessful tries with other companies I called Mike at Drain Sights. He was very responsive and said he could be at my home in 45 minutes -- and within 30 minutes he and his partner arrived. Mike and his partner unclogged the drain in record time and they were so careful doing their job that I couldn't tell they had ever been in my house when they were done -- no mess on the counter or the floor. Needless to say I was very relieved to have the problem solved. I plan on having Mike back to the house to do a water jet cleaning of my pipes. I highly recommend this company.

I had a sewer line backup into the toilet and shower in my finished basement. I had a plumbing service clear the blockage but it took several tries and all 100 feet of the roto rooter line. The plumber recommended I contact the County to ensure the line on the County side was clear (100 feet seemed to reach the county side - but the County clean-out point was not known). County came quickly and confirmed their side of the line was clear. They thought there were roots on my side of the sewer line. I contacted the original plumbing contractor and asked them to give me an assessment and recommendation on needed correction. The contractor sent their Master Plumber. He told me I needed to replace the entire sewer line from the house to the County connection. He said that I probably had ceramic tile pipe which had cracked. I asked why the whole line needed replacement and why he was not going to inspect it with a camera. The "Master Plumber" knew from experience that the line would need replacement, after all it was 40 year old ceramic pipe. The cost estimate was $6000, and that did not include replacement of the lawn, trees, bushes etc. They would only refill the ditch with the soil removed. I contacted a second contractor asking for an inspection and recommendation. They only wanted to send out an estimator for replacement of the entire sewer line. Again they were not interested in actually inspecting the line with a camera. After all the County folks said there were roots. (I never spoke to an actual plumber or engineer.) I called Drain Sights and found the Inspection Service I wanted. Mike did exactly what I needed. Here is what I learned: (1) the sewer line was actually clear, (2) that If there had been a blockage Mike could have told me exactly where it was located in my yard (he can ID the location of the camera in your yard), (3) that the line was Cast Iron so if replacement is needed it need not be the entire line. It is well worth spending $200 to confirm or not-confirm the need to spend many thousands. If something does not sound right (like not wanting to actually look at the sewer line) stop and find someone else. It is common practice in Government Contracting to hire One Contractor to Design a Project and Another Contractor to Perform the Project. Sometimes when you are lucky the first Contractor will tell you that you don't need the product after all.
Description of Work: Mike and his team provided an assessment of my sewer drain. They conducted a camera inspection of the main drain line from my house to the connection with the County sewer system. They were able to confirm that the (1) the drain line was a cast iron construction and (2) the drain line was clear of significant obstructions (there was build up inside the pipes but not serious obstructions). IF SOMEONE TELLS YOU THAT YOU NEED YOUR ENTIRE SEWER LINE REPLACED - STOP - THINK - THEN HIRE MIKE TO CONFIRM THE ANALYSIS. HE DOES NOT DO SEWER LINE REPLACEMENT - SO YOU WILL GET AN UNBIASED ASSESSMENT. THE COST ($255 FOR ME) IS WELL WORTH IT.

Mike is amazing. He was here for almost 3 hours with a helper and really pushed and pulled on the snake hard to get the maximum effect. Some workers would have quit after the first snaking, which did not do the job. It took him 3 times, but he did not complain, but was rather very easy-going, nice and accepting of that. He says he's there to get the job done as best as possible and does loads of work on clogged drains all the time. He's very fair, and did not say that we had to replace the pipe. At least at this point, unless things got more blocked. If so, we would have to get our own plumber, so it is not a conflict of interest for him (I thought this shows real honesty). He recommended root-x to help kill the roots inside the drain pipe, which are coming from the tree and encouraged us to save money by getting it ourselves and putting into the drains through the toilets. He is NOT someone who looks to keep coming back or do work that the customer can save on. He did a great job to the point I kept telling him how nice, thorough, efficient, hardworking and reasonable he was----all for only $ 325. (The rid-x is an additional cost.)
Description of Work: We just moved into a 100+ year old row house that we had renovated, but we knew there was water in the basement, assumed to be due to faulty roof gutters and rain dripping along the house and getting in. Then a few days ago, we noticed our basement sink was very clogged, and after trying to unclog it, we noticed a back up of our French well outside with the water from the sink. It also leaked a bit from the drain waste pipe clean out area. We called him on Friday about 5 PM, and he came the next day as he said at about noon. He used a rotating snake up to over 80-90 ft. The first time didn't fully do the job, so he did it again up to > 100 feet and actually reached the end of our drain line. He then did it even a third time to assure he did the best job he could. He got some roots and other material back as he pulled the snake out. This took over 2 hours and he was very thorough. Then, he used a fiber-optic camera with a screen we could look at, as he passed it into the drain. He saw some roots and one area that was a bit more difficult to cut the pieces of roots that got in from a huge tree in the backyard. He recommended root-x (chemical to kill weeds in pipes) to be put into the toilets on a regular basis---about every 6 mos (which we can do ourselves at a lower price), and the drain unclogged and now works fine after 3 days. No one knows the future of requiring more snaking out, because of the tree roots, but so far so good. and we think this has definitely helped.

I first purchased the drain inspection deal. It took a bit of phone tag to actually schedule the appointment. When they came, they realized they did not have the right tools to open the drain outlet (my house is more than 50 years old) and so had to reschedule. We also had another problem we needed help with. It involved coordinating with a roofer so that the stack vent could be cleaned out. When that was finally scheduled, the plumber showed up and worked with the roofers and snaked out the stack vent and the lines, but it caused the gunk in the pipes to back up into the sinks and tubs. They were able to clear that all out except for the master bathroom sink which was full of water and black gunk. This stymied them. They called their "master plumber" Earl in order to set up a time for Earl to come and drill a hole in the wall (not sure why that needed to be done) and they would come at the same time to re-snake the drain. They left, promising to call back to arrange a time to return. It is now more than 1 week later. They have not called back, not even to say they're still working on it. Meanwhile, we still have a stopped up sink full of water and gunk. Or we would have if my husband had not bailed out the sink, removed the trap, stuck a garden hose down the pipe, and hosed out the blockage. Why the plumber didn't think of this solution is beyond me. The arranged cost of this visit was to be $600. He charged me $300 and said would collect the balance when he returned with Earl (who would have his own charge.) My opinion of this business is that if your problem is straightforward and your house is not very old and your plumbing is pvc pipe, then they can probably resolve the issue. If there is any kind of problem, especially one that requires a return visit, you are going to have to be very persistent in order to get your service. We are wondering how long he is going to let this problem hang before he actually calls us back.

Overall, I would say that these 2 technicians did a very good job taking care of the problem. The evening that a snow storm was going to arrive our toilet in an unfinished basement started to overflow after flushing an upstairs toilet. The overflow caused about a 3ft radius of water around the toilet. We immediately called several plumbers who offer 24 hour emergency service since it was about 8pm. Several plumbers were unable to arrive that evening but we were worried the snow storm was going to prevent someone from coming the next say so we called many plumbers. Drain Sights didn't have a call center and the voicemail indicated to leave a message and someone would call right back. The technician did call me back shortly and indicated he was finishing up a job and could head over right after. He asked me to text him my address and we would text back when he was on his way. He did text back sooner than expected and he and another technician arrived at my house by about 10pm. They pulled up to the alley in the back of my house and called to let them in directly to the basement. I appreciated this since they wouldn't be walking through the rest of my house without shoe covers (we don't wear shoes in our house). They diagnosed the problem quickly as being a clogged main sewage line out of my house and accessed the pipe. I also let them know that my drains upstairs in the bathtub and sink were running slow in addition to the overflowing toilet in the basement caused by flushing the upstairs toilet. They took about 45 minutes to snake the line and test the basement toilet to ensure it was flushing properly. I asked if they needed me to test the upstairs toilet when they were done and they indicated that if the downstairs toilet was working the upstairs one would too. There were 3 main concerns I had about this company that has resulted in my decision not to use them again. First, when discussing price they said that it would be $350 if I paid by check or CC or they would knock $50 off if I paid in cash. This was a bit high but it was an emergency call so I was stuck. In my opinion, knocking off such a large amount came across as unprofessional and it made me doubt the authenticity of their price point. Because of the snow storm I couldn't go out and get cash so I was stuck paying the greater amount. Second, they had to step in the overflow toilet water around the toilet to access the sewer line and they didn't seem to care or realize they traipsed all through my basement and up my stairs with sewage on their shoes. I had to spend an hour cleaning up after they left. Third, and the most frustrating, when they said they didn't need to test the upstairs before they left I didn't make them and when I went upstairs I realized the sink and tub were still draining slowly. And 5 days later my upstairs toilet was clogged. I had to call another plumber into my house and spend an additional $207 to get these fixed. This could have been taken care of when I had them to my house but because they didn't take the time to test all my pipes and said it would be find I was stuck taking time out of my work and more money to fix.

He and his assistant arrived and were great, they came in and immediately assessed the situation - Mike walked my husband through everything and had a great sense of humor as well. He made sure that my husband would be able to handle smaller issues on his own in the future - we were lucky that it wasn't our main line and just an issue with our basement line and a flapper - but Mike explained both and what to look for to my husband. The entire process was under 30 minutes and was worth every penny. We would not hesitate to use Mike again or recommend him to friends & neighbors.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and they were very nice. I had never used them before and he gave me two great tips about clearing drains in the future. They were very nice and sweet. I have not had any issues since they did the work. He did make one suggestion about having my drain jetted before summer, but I don't know if I am going to do that. The Big Deal was a great deal, I love Angie's List.

Since he couldn't clean the main drain, he attempted to address a slow drain in the tub but said that the pipe wasn't clogged and was slow because the pipes were not installed correctly. I certainly got my money's worth but was a little disappointed that the tech couldn't address my concern with the main drain which has since backed up a couple of times.
Description of Work: Showed up promptly but didn't have the proper equipment to clean out the main drain. We did use the camera to inspect for damage and found an area that needed a clean out but once again, the tech didn't have the right snake to do the work (it was in the other truck). He offered to come back the following week and clean it out for @$300 but I chose not to.

The service men were professional and even though the layout of the pipes prevented a clear viewing with their video equipment, they were very information on how to work with the pipes.
