Description of Work: Installed closet system in Master bedroom and drawer units in den. Danny responded quickly to my many questions and changes in design, tho I'm sure he felt frustrated. Installers were prompt and professional & even stayed late into the night to complete the job on the agreed upon date. I investigated 2 other companies which were considerably more expensive than Chesapeake closets and I'm very happy with the results

Very positive experience. The initial meeting with Steve was very easy and quick, and he asked great questions about how the closets would be used as well as who would be using them (small children in our case). He emailed a detailed design and proposal within a couple of days. I had already looked into the Elfa systems and other closet systems at the home improvement stores, and realized that the cost and effort it would take for us to install our own system in the closets would be significant. We decided to have Chesapeake closets install the system in the guest room first so that we could see the quality and functionality of the closet before committing to all three. They installed that one about a month ago and it's fantastic - so functional and convenient. They were here today for about 5 hours to install the other two closet systems and as expected, the closets are exactly what I wanted. I honestly couldn't have come up with a similar design myself that would maximize space in such an incredibly efficient way. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Three reach in closets were designed and installed in second floor bedrooms. One of the closets included several drawers to take the place of a child's dresser (small bedroom).

Do not waste your time with this company. They were extremely nonchalant from the very beginning and didn't provide a design or estimate during the initial consultation as their competitors did. In addition, it took them nearly three weeks to provide this information when they promised to get back to us within a week. Again, I would recommend working with another company to meet your closet redesigning needs.
Description of Work: We did not move past the initial consultation as summarized in my other comments.

Member, as we have never met I am sorry to hear your feedback for the first time in this forum. I apologize for the delay in getting the designs to you. Unfortunately, I had unexpected surgery which forced me to to be out for this period of time. Upon my recovery I did rush everything out, but obviously there was a delay for which we are sorry. As you can see from our other reviews your experience is not typical of the standard to which we run our company. Please except our apologies again and feel free to contact us directly if you should have any further questions.

The owner initially spent a lot of time to understand our needs and then designed a system he felt best addressed those needs. We went back and forth a few times adjusting the design before finally agreeing to have the work done. His team arrived on time and was very professional during the entire installation. When it was done it was exactly what we expected. Since the installation we've had them come back to make some minor modifications to add more usable space. They only charged us for the materials and didn't charge for the visit or installation. Overall we love the new closets and can't imagine not having any of them.

We started with Angie's list and took bids from Chesapeake Closets and Closet America (both local companies with A ratings). Chesapeake took longer to get us drawings after the initial visit but seemed easier to collaborate with, and open to suggestions. They also advised us on how to make our project as strong and economical as possible, given our constraints and preferences. Installation was 5-6 weeks after we made our deposit. The only hang up has been that glass doors were not ready in time for the initial installation, but Steve apologized profusely, and we can still unpack, so it will be fine.
Description of Work: Chesapeake Closets transformed our basement family room with 3 large closet units, three smaller cabinet units, and three bookshelf sections. We had an attic in our old house and needed more storage! We finally got it, and it looks great!

On the day of the appointment, they didn't show up on time. I had to call the office who then called the designer who was running late. It was ok that they were running late, but I would have liked a phone call to update me. Otherwise, pleasant. He took measurements and I explained what I needed and wanted. In about a week I got the designs over email and there were some things I didn't like. I found it very cumbersome and time consuming to get a single change made. Emails with them would take days or a week to be processed and calls were slow to be returned. There was one particular thing I wanted to get changed, and I spoke with Steve the owner over the phone, and he said it could be done. I never got the redesign and emailed to get a status update. Evidently, Steve changed his mind and didn't want to make the change and the way I found out was by me having to email chesapeake closets for a status update. Why didn't they call or email? I'd like to see better communication from the company in the future. They never even told me why they couldn't make the change I requested. I probably would have used them if they explained to me why they couldn't make the change. So if you are planning on using this company, don't expect high quality customer service. In the end, poor communication is what killed this deal. California closets had no problem designing the exact closet I wanted with the same warranty and good structural stability.

Response from CHESAPEAKE CLOSETS
We appreciate Member's feedback. This customer made a request that we could not be sure was structurally sound. We informed Member that we would look into the matter and made a suggestion of adding an additional support to ensure the unit was safe. The customer was informed that we would not build something unsafe and kept asking us to come up with a solution that did not exist. Since we offer a lifetime warranty we will only install something that we feel will last a lifetime. I'm sorry the customer felt that we were unresponsive, but we were more concerned with stability than a quick sale.

Again, they did an excellent job: in scheduling, the bid process, and actual installation. Keith arrived on time, answered all of my amateur handyman questions, completed the work on time, cleaned up inside and out, and overall did excellent work. I plan to use them in the future in my rentals.
Description of Work: Chesapeake Closets previously did the closets in my home. I was so pleased with that that I had them do 3 closets in one of my rental apartments, where space is a premium.

Steve, the owner and designer came to my house and took very accurate measurements. He asked me numerous questions as to what items I wanted to remain in the closet, how much would be in there, did I want shelves, shoe cubbies etc. Plans were drawn up for me to approve and adjustments and changes were able to be made. Chad and Alex (very friendly and professional) arrived promptly on installation day. They began their work about 9:30 and finished the job on three closets by around 3pm. The design was great on paper but the completed project actually IN the closets was amazing. I wish I had done the job much sooner!! The entire project from start to finish exceeded my expectations!!
Description of Work: Two master bedroom closets were totally redesigned from an old-fashioned one bar system to a very modern updated configuration. A very detailed plan was executed to utilize all space for maximum storage for a large variety of clothing and personal accessories. Another downstairs coat closet had storage cubes added to its shelf. The results were great and resulted in LOTS of extra storage space and a very neat bunch of closets!!

This is a great company to work with. The owners are very kind and does excellent work for our closets. The workers that came today to install our closet for the new home did a wonderful job. They arrived before the scheduled time and cut the boards outside (very clean), and bring the boards into our home. With their shoes taken off, they install the closet pieces in our closets. They are very highly recommended!!
Description of Work: They installed our master bedroom two closets and also our washer & dryer room. The installer asked if we need any of the changes before the put it on the wall. I wanted the installation to be exactly as drawn by the owner and the washer & dryer room were installed with ironing board on it. It is very nicely done. Excellent job!

I was pretty happy with the quote and design aspects of the project -- they delivered exactly what I wanted and had some good ideas. My master bedroom closet is very much more useable now, and I have lots of extra storage in the kids rooms for toys and blankets. I did have an issue with the drawers in my daughter's closet -- the laminate that they were made of had a chemical smell. They assured me that this was the same material they've used -- even in their own homes -- and never had an issue. And they somewhat made me feel like I was a crazy person for suggesting that this smell was there. But they did make it right in the end -- they replaced the laminate with plywood for the drawer boxes and voila, the smell was gone. So if you go with them, i would recommend the plywood for any drawers.

They did a great job. They came out very quickly to look at the space and come up with some plans. They were very polite. They came when they said they would and did the work quickly. The price was also very good. The owner came out himself the first time to look at the closets and come up with a plan. He also came out afterwards to make sure everything looked good.

Overall, we were pleased. The owner actually came to meet me for the initial walk-through of the first project, which was very nice. He was very cordial, and he told me a lot about his business and the way they work. The closet project went ok, but I wouldn't say it was great. I had painted the inside of the closet prior to them installing the shelving system. They ended up having to take a board off the wall, which now leaves a rather unsightly line at eye level behind the shelves. If I had known it needed to come off, I would have done it myself and repainted. As it stands now, it creates a very difficult touch-up job to paint being the shelves. Following the closet work, my wife wanted to get in touch with them about redoing our pantry. There were many times that she called, and a person would tell her that the drawings were almost done. They were only supposed to take a few days, but it was more like a week or so. The pantry work was fantastic. The two-man team for this job was better than the first, and they made sure that things were correct as we were going along. I was very pleased with the way this job turned out. Each job took approximately 2-3 hours to complete, and the teams were on time for the respective jobs. Overall, we were happy with the work performed, except that it was a little difficult getting them to return our calls. In fact, we were very close to using a different company for the pantry, as we couldn't get them to return our calls in a timely fashion. In the end, though, the job was done and done well.
Description of Work: Chesapeake Closets installs custom closets/pantries/shelving. We chose to have them add shelving in an existing closet. Following successful completion of that project, we had them install a shelving system in our pantry.

The designer visited my home to see what I wanted, measure and show me wood color samples. After about two weeks or so, I received an estimate in the mail with 3-D pictures of the design. The pictures made it very easy to see what they planned to build. I hired them, and the men who came to install the unit were prompt, neat and very professional. We are very pleased with the results, and I recommended the company to someone I know who also used them and is also very happy with her new shelving unit.

We had a walk-in closet built from a very small reach-in and wanted adequately designed and set up to meet our needs. We also had two other awkwardly set up closets that needed to be re-designed. Every interaction with this company was professional, prompt, and pleasant. The designer came and measured the closets, noted things that might prove difficult for the installers, and asked in detail about our needs. She measured existing clothes on hangers, but also asked me to estimate using height from floor how much space would be needed for folded and hanging items. 3 weeks later, we got the 3-D color designs in the mail; although that was a little longer than we expected (she had given us a 2-week estimate), we did not mind because it gave us time to get other estimates and we knew that our situation was really challenging. The installers came 2 weeks later & although 5 hours late with many check-in calls, came and stayed until 7 pm until all was finished!
Description of Work: Chesapeake Closets provided a free estimate and detailed designs for 3 closets in our home, then installation according to the design. One attic entrance walk-in, one small walk-in, and one reach-in under eaves.

Service was not used due to the lateness of the quote.
Description of Work: An appointment was arranged to provide a quote for installing a master bedroom, vanity and two hall closets. The salesman arrived on time, was polite and very knowledgeable. We discussed many possible options and arrived at the best designs for us. He had reviewed the locations and took measurements. He indicated that a final design and quote would be back to us in four business days. A week later, we received a note that they were working on the design. Twelve business days later, we received a very nice detailed design layout and quote; however, we had already received other quotes ten days prior, and went with one of them. Fortunately, we had received comparable designs and cost from the others.

The owner of the company called us the night after the install was completed to say thank you. That was a first for us... We couldn't be happier with our selection. The final product is an exact match to the 3D plans, so we knew exactly what both rooms would look like completed and they didn't disappoint. Our Chesapeake closets keep us neat, clean and organized and bring us enjoyment everyday. We have referred several of our friends and would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Chesapeake Closets designed and delivered an amazing master bedroom walk-in closet and a custom mud-room cubby system. The designer helped us maximize both spaces and was able to show us exactly what to expect with 3D designs. The designer was also willing to make revisions to satisfy our curiosity, even though we ended up going with his initial design. The install took place three weeks after approval of the designs because we special ordered two custom closet colors. The installer was clean, friendly, on-time and gave us some hardware options providing a nice finishing touch. All CC Employees were courteous and very knowledgeable.

The designer seemed knowledgeable & said that the design would be available in 1 week. I called 2 weeks later to inquire about it & was told it would be several more days. The design I finally received left out 2/3 of the features we discussed with the designer. I did not get a satisfactory response about the omissions & refused to try to amend the design by telephone. The price for the bad design seemed reasonable.
