Abbey Fence & Deck

The installers drilled a double hole in my new concrete which the first hole punctured a pvc sump pump connecting pipe that was just installed month ago. Then they put a mountain of concrete to try and cover it up. The installers should have been informed by the sales rep since I specified to drill at least 8 inches away from the corner of the house. They also did not install the extra panel I requested for the gap that was left near the sump pump pipe, between the corner of the house and the post for the driveway gate.

We signed a contract with Abbey on July 8, 2022. We provided our credit card information for the ~$1400 deposit, the fence area was staked out, and were told our fence would be installed in 8-12 weeks. After 8 weeks came and went, I repeatedly called the sales person, Paul Stesch. When his voice mailbox wasn't "full", my messages were ignored. After multiple phone calls (the final message being that I was getting angry and needed an update ASAP) he finally called me back to let me know that Abbey Fence was having "lots of trouble with aluminum fencing" and he had "bad news" - they never ordered any materials and have no intention of honoring the contract that was signed. Since Abbey never "processed" our signed agreement, according to Mr. Stesch, its "not really a contract". Not only will I never hire this company for anything again, I will be leaving reviews everywhere I can and I already have a call into the MHIC.

We worked with Greg Berezansky for our quote and throughout our fence install, and he was excellent for the whole process — easy to get in touch with, made sure everything was taken care of, great customer service skills, etc. We have a typical Hampden/Medfield rowhouse and our neighbor to one side and myself needed new fencing. Greg worked with both of us to make sure everything was figured out, including splitting the expense on some portions (which added some extra work that we appreciate a lot). The install team was very fast. We did have to wait a few weeks for the last few things to complete, but keep in mind that it's high season for this work, everyone's busy, there's still supply chain and labor shortages affecting everyone, and it was all taken care of in the end. The new fence is beautiful and well-built. We'd use Abbey again the future.

Abbey built a fence with multiple height/style fencing and gates around our back yard. They also constructed latticework alongside our driveway bulkhead. There were no issues from the time of construction for the fence. The latticework needed additional support due to high winds in our location and Abbey came out within a week to reconstruct the latticework with a level of support and integrity such that the latticework survived the highest winds of the season. We highly recommend Abbey as a reliable, competent partner in fence construction.

Unfortunately, this company fell very very far short of the expectations I had. For starters, I had some concerns about getting a permit from the county so I called after my initial payment to discuss potential changes to fence layout and received no reply for a month. The next interaction was the afternoon prior to the installation saying the contractors would be here the next day. The biggest issues is with the extremely poor quality of work. After the initial install I found concrete and loose dirt left around every fence post and throughout the entire yard. Additionally, there was a saw blade left in yard. Throughout the entire fence there are staples shot in hard enough to break metal wiring. On top of this they actually installation part of fence in the incorrect location, even though I walked the perimeter of the fence prior to install and showed them exactly where everything should be. During the installation process I was unable to communicate at all with contractors due to language barrier and general unfriendliness. This wouldn't have really been an issue if there wasn't an accident on the job and if they had installed the fence properly. Once I inspected the fence after the install I called to raise concerns about work quality and was told I would hear from someone that day. It wasn't until 3 days later with an early morning phone call did I find out someone was coming to take a look at the fence. I was told same crew wouldn’t come back and I would hear from someone early the next week to see about next steps. After the weekend the same contractor showed up with no call to alert of arrival, just showed up. The contractor didn’t seem to be shown photos taken during previous visit and had the nerve to argue with me about the location of the fence and quality of work. Said I was home all day so I should’ve come out and asked them to clean up and tell them the fence wasn’t installed correctly. I work from home so naturally I wasn't monitoring the contractors to make sure they were doing their work correctly. They did move the fence to the correct location, but didn't clean up the rest of concrete around the yard and left more garbage around the yard (water bottle, pieces of metal, chunks of wood, etc). After walking around the yard with the contractor I pointed out some concrete left around some of the fence posts and he told me "it's fine" and picked up the concrete to throw over the fence. There's concrete smeared up the fence posts and wooden planks all over the fence. The real icing on the cake is my brother's 60 lbs pit bull was able to crawl under part of the fence so now I'm going to need to go secure parts of the fence to make sure animals can't crawl under the fence.

Abbey did an excellent job. Started 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Installers were friendly. We discussed options on the best way for the gates to open based on the slope of my yard and other landscaping nearby. I'm completely satisfied with the results.

I wish I could explain it. I called Abbey Fence and Deck last week to request a quote for a deck extension with composite deck boards. They quickly put me on the schedule no problem. Flash forward to today. The guy started measuring my existing balcony and asked what I wanted and as soon as I started explaining that I wanted to expand the deck out into the yard and across the back of the home, he started making excuses. He said they only had white rails no black, he started telling me about another job where he was waiting since September (it’s now March) for materials. He went on to say it would be August when he could get black railings. Then I said ok, if you can’t do the job I understand. So he took all his measuring tools, including a huge walking measuring wheel and left. It was very odd. Why didn’t they tell me when I called that they were low on parts or had a backlog on projects due to lack of materials. Needless to say, I called Wold Home Products, one of the companies he said they use and get this....The customer service rep said they have plenty of black aluminum railings. She even went on to tell me to have the contractor ask for the Westbury Tuscany #C-10. When I read reviews I take what people say with a grain of salt, especially if they are the only negative in a sea of positives. Trust me, I wasn’t asking for anything special or extravagant, just a simple deck. It was truly odd.

At first it was great. They were on time, finished quickly, etc. Everything was great. Then a year passed and the posts started rotting. They replaced 1 or 2 for free. The following year, more post rot. Again they replaced them. After about year 3 or 4 they threw in the towel and I was on my own. Now at roughly year 10, I have 9 posts to replace this spring. Keep in mind I've been replacing on average 3 every year. My assumption is they just do not use pressure treated lumber or lumber rated for direct ground contact. So long story short, the fence was great for the first year, then after that, the posts just rotted away. Within roughly another 5 years I estimate the entire fence will have been replaced.

It was a great experience from beginning to end! Our Sales guy Chris made us feel comfortable, answered all of our questions, and was helpful throughout the whole process! The men that came to instal the fence were polite, friendly, and did a great job!!! Its amazing to see our vision come alive! We LOVE our new fence and would highly recommend!

From start to finish my experience with Abbey Deck & Fence was superb. Salesman Chris was personable, patient, professional and very accommodating. Price was competitive and after seeing the craftsmanship it was well worth it. I will recommend Abbey Fence & Deck to all who are searching for quality fencing.

Never showed for estimate , not a reliable company

I don't understand why, but David Novac from Abbey Fence & Deck came out to my property on June 19,2020 to look it over in order to give an estimate of cost. Upon leaving he stated "I'll get back to you". When he failed to do so I called the number given to me printed on his business card. Same response "I'll get back to you. After the third try I gave up. Its August 5th 2020 , still no call back and NO reason WHY???? BEWILDERED

I requested to have an existing fence (that they had previously installed) moved & reinstalled to expand the yard. First, they are terrible at giving you much notice of when they are coming as I would have made arrangements to be home to supervise if I could have. After the install, I noticed issues & contacted them immediately. They left a deep fence post hole open in my yard and there were large gaps between the wire mesh of the fence & the ground, making it very insecure (the existing fence is secure to the ground). In addition there are several nails just sticking out that are not even holding anything in. I have called & emailed several times, only to be either ignored or given the run-around & excuses and no one has actually fixed the issues. It took them a week and a half to even send a service tech who did not fix the wire mesh issue, which was my main concern. (I had already filled the fence post hole, as apparently they were just going to have me leave that open for someone to injure themselves in during that time.) For a company that claims they are about customer satisfaction, they clearly are about just taking your money even though the job is not finished completely or properly. Horrible customer service from Abbey Fence. Take your business elsewhere.

Very poorly, I had to call the supervisor to have a variety of items corrected and work repeated several times. A 2-1/2 ft section of fence was not installed, reportedly because someone measured incorrectly; only one of approx. 20 fence post-tops were secured - the others easily fell off; the front gate had an inexplicable leaf extension preventing the gate from opening completely; one fence post was inexplicably several inches taller than all of the others - and no one from Abbey seemed to notice; one side of the rear walk-through gate latch was sharply, unevenly severed, posing a cutting risk to hands; none of the old fence posts bases were removed from the ground - they were just cut. One of the former posts at the entrance to my rear parking pad was sharply, unevenly severed and would have punctured my tire had I not noticed it and requested it's removal; the metal receptacle for the parking pad drop rod was elevated approx. 3 inches above the ground in the middle of my parking pad and would also have punctured my tires had I not noticed it and requested that it be made level with the ground; and the rear parking pad swing gates were repeatedly installed unevenly, greatly elevated on one side then, upon my request for leveling, the wrong side was adjusted, then upon "correction," the intended side was so severely over-adjusted, the resulting appearance would have qualified for a spot on Saturday Night Live. This attempted "correction" remains ongoing, 6 adjustments and counting, including 2 erroneous adjustments to a gate leaf that was just fine - until it was erroneously adjusted by the crew instead of them adjusting the uneven side of the gate. I've tried to withhold judgment, thinking the plethora of issues would eventually be resolved. Now, several weeks after installation, having called the supervisor repeatedly (I've always received a return call or text - and he has always sent the crew back out each time I've called), I wonder if I will ever have a functional enclosure to my yard. This experience has been like a bad dream that doesn't end.

The staff were very professional and helpful. The team who came and put up the fence moved so fast. The fence was put up in hours.

Abby came in at about 50% of the cost of the other two estimates. Other companies said it was a 4 or 5 day job. Abby sent four guys who completed the work in one day. Workers were professional and spritely about their work. I was really impressed by the estimator and the crew! This fence work was completed in the heart of winter with no complaints. Tip top all around.

This was the worst company I have ever worked with. I asked them to set my posts on one side at 8’ on center (which is very standard for fences) and install a chain link fence on the other side. There was not a single post that was 8’ center to center. Not even close! They set over 35 posts and didn’t even accidentally get one right. I had spacing as small as 6’2” and as large as 8’5” and everything in between. This isn’t including the corners where you would end up with a less than 8’ run. This cost me an extra 800$ in lumber and about two entire days more work with two people to individually measure, mark, and cut each board one at a time because the spacing from post to post was all over the place. They left trash in my yard. They threw pipe cutoffs in the bushes. They spray painted part of my garage. All the gates where out of plum and some didn’t even close properly. Some of the chain link wasn’t even attached in places. I spoke with a few people at the company and finally talked with the VP I asked him to come to my property to see the type of work his employees are doing but he refused and the best I could get was a $1,000 refund for a job that was over $6,000. He told me any more than that and it’s not worth it for his company, and they could come take everything back out. I had a wedding on my property in a few weeks and didn’t have an option to have them fix it nor did I want people who do that kind of work anywhere near my property ever again. So my recommendation is to never use Abbey Fence and tell everyone you know to do the same.

Excellent job with dedicated workers. Very difficult project. Tight area in which to erect fence. With help of Dave the supervisor the fence turned out better that anticipated.

Sales man appeared to be personable and professional. However, their proposal was based on a substantially smaller square footage than the existing deck. When I emailed the salesman this info, I didn't hear back, so I went with another firm. Was it a lowball attempt with a delayed kicker? I don"t know.

The actual installation of my fence went great. The guys were professional courteous and demonstrated pride in their work. The sales person/estimator not so much. Prior to the installation my phone calls and inquiries to him for the most part went unanswered. I actually felt like I was getting the round around. I was told that I needed a permit to install the fence when I did not. If you're replacing an existing structure of the same dimension in the same location on your property no permit is needed in Harford County. I was told that BGE had been called to mark the gas and water lines on my property and as soon as the lines were identified they would schedule the installation. I called BGE to verify and was told that no request had been made to mark the lines on my property. After I signed the contract and put down the required deposit it took just over 5 weeks for the work to begin. Albeit the time frame I was given was 3 to 5 weeks I can't help but think how much time was wasted with waiting for a permit that was not needed and the non existing request to BGE. How a fencing company cannot be aware of when you need a permit and when you don't is perplexing to say the least. My unreturned phone calls and voicemails had me wondering if I had picked the wrong company. The saving grace was the install team. If you don't mind getting the run around and having to verify everything the company says then call Abbey. The finished product is outstanding and as stated the install guys made up for unprofessional way the sales department conducted themselves.

It went wonderfully. The fence is perfect and looks better than I could have imagined. The price was comparable to other estimates. I am amazed at how quickly it was done. It took them less than 2 days. The technicians were pleasant and effecient. The salesman Jason was outstanding and the fence was installed three weeks earlier than I anticipated. They truly lived up to their reputation. I have attached before and after photos of my yard. Since we belong to a HOA, we had certain parameters that need to be met. They took care of the permit as well as meeting the HOA requirement. Top notch all the way. Thank you Abbey Fence

I love my new deck! My old one was too small and now I have plenty of room. Dave A. was extremely helpful with the design and provided the details I needed for my HOA approval. The team who removed my old deck and constructed the new one were respectful, hard working and even stayed late to beat the rain. Thank you Abbey!

The estimate of work to be performed was exactly as quoted within the properly scheduled time frame from startup to completion. Special thanks to Dave who helped with the suggested design layout and to Scott and crew for work performed.

They did a very good job and I am very satisfied with the work they did and how well they cleaned up after the job.
