It was a pleasure working with you. After our initial roof inspection, our Inspector was correct in saying," your Homeowner's Insurance would pay for all of the repairs due to the hail storm". We installed close to 300 new roofs in your neighborhood. We appreciate your business and hope we can work together in future. Kris Randlett President of Kris Konstruction Design & Build Group

Description of Work: "We called to get an estimate for a new roof and gutters on Monday, November 2nd and was told thy would be back in touch with us after obtaining an aerial view of our house for estimation. They were to call by the end of the week to set up an appointment. |It is almost 3 weeks later and we have yet to hear back from them. Not only were they disrespectful and discourteous for not calling, they lost out on a $10,000 contract."

Description of Work: We had significant damage from a hail storm and needed a new roof, siding and gutters. Kris the owner came to the house and explained what our options were (not a sales presentation just facts). After meeting with him I was convinced he had the best interest of his customer as his primary goal. Because of this I not only contracted for the hail damage repair but also new windows and shutters. All of the workers were professional and courteous. The work is complete and I am very pleased with the final product.

They were very polite, and clean. I expected the worst, but they did a great job. The boss is wonderful and listens to what the customer has to say. He was very receptive, and we had a wonderful working relationship with him. The boss is also a kitchen designer, but we decided to purchase our cabinets from somewhere else. He had to work with the kitchen designer from another company, and he worked very well with him.

The bathroom is beautiful. I am very satisfied with the workmanship. However, expecting that the $5,900 Groupon would cover all costs is a mistake. That implies you will use the builder grade fixtures that are a part of the package. I had to purchase tile, grout, plumbing fixtures, paint, primer, a shower curtain rod, a vanity, sink top, medicine cabinet, towel rack, light fixture, etc. But that is because I had a vision for a nice room and I chose to upgrade. They counted some of the $5,900 toward part of the costs I incurred. They also charged extra for additional tile work, installing an electric outlet since they were not replacing an existing outlet, and to build a niche in the tub area with a shelf for shampoos, etc. My house is a '50s rancher and the bathroom is small. Tony had never done a niche before, but it classed up the room, and gave extra storage and provided for less clutter. He was game for making it happen and it looks great. They made every effort to keep the mess to a minimum using tarps, fans, and covering doorways. The outcome is beautiful. I had to have them back a few time to fix leaks and a problem with the sink drain. But they stand behind their work and will come back as often as necessary. Kris stays on top of what is happening and is very responsive. I wasn't in a hurry so I had no problem with them scheduling me a few months after I signed up. The job took 3 weeks. It was longer than expected but my plaster walls crumbled when they started demo and it took longer than expected since they had to strip out everything, including the floor that they thought they would be able to tile over. I would rather it take longer than expected and get the professional results I got than for them to rush through. And even though the demo was way more extensive than expected, they did not charge additional for it. Tony and his son did a great job. The tile is straight, the grout looks perfect, the paint job looks wonderful and everything works fine. The few issues that popped up got resolved. Tony even came back without charge to install a different medicine cabinet when the original one I had bought didn't look right. I get a lot of compliments and oddly, I don't miss the pink and blue '50 tile from the old bathroom at all! There were a couple of times that other jobs or illness kept them from showing up and I would urge them to remember to contact the homeowner if they aren't going to be able to be there, rather than the homeowner having to make the call. But I do know in one instance they were working on an emergency where a homeowner had a flood. And I would hope if I had a flood they would come immediately to help me! And I think they would. I also had them replace my windows, which were original to the house. They were awful and leaked a lot of air. Mark gave me an estimate that was on par with the others I had received. He measured, and had them installed in just a few weeks. Mark's guys came in and over 2 1/2 days replaced them all with Certainteed windows. They are well made and really help keep outside noise to a minimum. The guys cleaned up after themselves and it was like they were never there, except for the beautiful, energy effcient windows. Would I use Kris Konstruction again, absolutely.

Thank you for your positive feedback and your suggestions.Your project was the second "Big Deal Bath Remodel" we completed.Although,we have remodeled hundreds of bathrooms, this was the first remodel we have sold through Angies List.Other than a couple of surprises, i.e. crumbling plaster walls and aged plumbing, I think the remodel went very well.As with all of our remodeling projects, we try to listen to our customers and learn from any surprises, so we can maximize future customer's satisfaction. I think the Angies List Big Deal's are a great value for the members and a great sales boost for my company ! We took advantage of the Angie's List Big Deal Bathroom Remodel. Kris met with us and clearly presented what was included and what our options were so there were no surprises. The job took just over 10 days. A single workman performed all the demo, reconstruction, tile work, installation and painting. Our project manager was an experienced professional with a good eye for the details. He took great pride in his work. Our only disappointment was that he definitely should have draped off the work area better. The concrete dust and tile cutting dust was everywhere. We had additional plumbing work and used Kris's sub. There was a little bit of scheduling conflicts, but the work was well done. We're very pleased with the finished product.
Description of Work: Our project included gutting a 1960 style hall bathroom into a more modern updated style. This required a complete gut of tiled walls and floor, including 3 inches of concrete under the tile floor. We had all new vanity sink, tub and toilet installed. The shower walls are now modern tiles with interspersed decorative tiles. The room walls are covered with 4 ft. wainscot and chair rail. The medicine cabinet is replaced with a flush mount mirror. We had a new light fixture and efficient fan installed.

Thank you for all of the positive feedback. We have learned by remodeling the bathrooms in older homes that have plaster walls, that even if you install plastic in the areas your working to control the plaster dust, we still can't stop 100% of the dust.We will try to be more effective in the future. I am also glad that like most of our customers, you are able to see past the dust and apprieciate the wonderful bathroom remodel. It was an absolute pleasure working for you, and we apprieciate your business. We have decided that this experience feels too much like a bait and switch tactic. We are not going to use Kris Konstruction for this project. This is no deal. I could see paying $6k for the labor to do this, and I could see paying for materials, but for bottom line cost of nearly $12k before we have even done the first thing, I think this is over the top. Note to readers: we are not babes in the woods on this subject. We have done major renovations with Time and Materials contracts. We have done major renovations of our master bathroom, a laundry room, our kitchen, and heating system. This guy rubs us the wrong way. Perhaps he does good work, but I'm not going to risk our money after what feels pretty clearly like Bait and Switch tactics.
Description of Work: The Big Deal ad on Angie's List was for a $5900 bathroom demolition and remodel, valued at $11k. Our bathroom was small, but fairly conventional for something originally done in the 1950s. We put down our deposit. The salesman met with us and took a few measurements. He came back and checked again. And then --surprise, he quoted us an $11k job before anyone had even done the first part of this work. I wouldn't have been surprised if additional work had been itemized and added on, but there wasn't any. I was also very annoyed that we were to pay for all the materials. That was not stated in the ad.

We talked to several contractors and decided to use Kris Konstruction because we went to the showroom and were very impressed. We were treated very professionally by Kris and his staff. Another big factor in our decision was Chris Connolly . He helped to design our kitchen and gave us time and help to make good decisions. The construction began in April and we were extremely pleased with how the project proceeded. All of the workers were very professional. They protected the rest of our house by putting up plastic in doorways and even used the rear entrance of the house even though it was not as convenient. Any problems we may have had were taken care of immediately. Kris stopped many times to make sure the project was being done the way that we wanted. We are extremely happy with our kitchen and everyone who comes to our home is impressed. We have and would highly recommend Kris Konstruction to others for their remodeling needs. They are very professional and stand behind their work. It was a pleasure doing business with Kris Konstruction. We would like to thank Kris, Chris, Justin, Jeremy and all of the other workers for doing such a great job.

Once the project began it was flawless. The workers took care not to damage other area of the house, put up plastic and tarps to keep the dust to a minimum in the rest of the house, and even cleaned up each day before they left. Everything was professional. As you can imagine, being without a kitchen is difficult so completing the project on time was very important. Well just like every other aspect of the job it was completed on time down to the last nail. Throughout the project Kris was there for us even making some suggestions on our selection of appliances and other details. What we ended up with was an outstanding makeover with very high quality kitchen cabinets, outstanding lighting, heating and air conditioning moved from the existing walls which are no longer there to locations that are more efficient. A new hardwood floor throughout replaced the previous tile and carpet. Instead of a first floor with a small kitchen, average living room and dining room we now have one large open floor that is much more functional. The completed project is much more than we expected. Whatever the home improvement I would not call anyone but Kris.
Description of Work: Our home was built in the early 70's and other than the appliances everything in the kitchen was original. We wanted to update the kitchen and were not sure what our options were. We even thought about knocking down the wall and opening up the room but were not sure that was possible. We called Kris Konstruction/ Kris Kitchen since he had done work for us before. In both this and a previous home we have used Kris for windows, siding, and even a roof. Kris came out and talked to us and took some measurement and told us he would look at some options and get back to us. After a few days Kris called and asked if we wanted him to come out or if we wanted to meet at his office, we opted to meet at is office. As it turned out there were several things we could do including changing the existing configuration from a 3 room first floor to a completely open floor which was one thing we were thinking. By knocking the wall down that separated the rooms we could have the openness that is in many newer homes. We looked at 3D drawings and computer graphics of several different configurations. We were given options of the grade of materials including cabinets, flooring, counter tops, etc. We liked pieces of each option and soon started cutting and pasting from the options until we had what we thought was the best for us. At not time during the process were we ever pressured into picking a specific option or signing anything. We went home and thought it over and the next day called Kris to advise him we were ready. He gave us a time table which turned out to be right on.

I would like to take the opportunity to personally "Thank You" for the positive feedback about Kris Konstruction Design and Build Group. To often people hear about horror stories involving contractors, and it is nice to see our company receive recognition for being "One Of The Good Ones " in this industry. We have been in business for over twenty years now, and I think we have remodeled for you on 8 different projects in 2 homes, for about 15 of those years.Wow, time flies ! I remember personally installing some of the windows in your in Abingdon home. Shortly after we replaced all of your aluminum siding that was damaged by a bad hail storm.Your house and the other 20 homes I remodeled in your neighborhood due to that hail storm tipped off my start in the insurance restoration business. We are still very involved in the insurance restoration field with our dedicated Hail Restoration Division, which has repaired over 10000 homes in Maryland,Pennsylvania,Virginia, and Ohio. Just last year, we replaced over 200 roofs in Waldorf Maryland and Hanover Pennsylvania as well as 1000's of square feet of siding and aluminum trim work. The window, roofing and siding business has created many other opportunities to expand Kris Konstruction. Many of our previous exterior remodeling customers, you included, have called us back to build additions, remodel bathrooms and kitchens.By the way, I love your screened-in porch we built for you ! All of the referral business for kitchens, bathrooms and additions was the catalyst for us to open our "Kitchen Design Center" in Baldwin. Since opening in 2008, we have remodeled over 200 kitchens in the Baltimore, Harford, Howard, Anne Arundel , and Cecil Counties. We have our own line of cabinetry as well as an in-house Senior Kitchen Designer. People from all over Maryland , come to see our state of the art showroom and are amazed with our Kitchen Design Presentations. The new windows, siding and roof when quickly and looked great. The property was always cleaned up at the end of the day. The end result was a much tighter house which have made it more energy efficient. The construction of the addition took about two months, which is about what had been expected. An occassional issue would arise as the job progressed, but each time, it was resolved to our satisfaction. There is no question that for any furture projects I will call on Kris Konstruction.
Description of Work: We started working with Kris Konstruction on a project that grew. We were using them to replace windows, siding and a new roof. Then went on to add a 4 season sunroom addition, followed by a kitchen remodel. We have been enjoying the results of their work ever since and constantly receive compliments on the way the exterior, kitchen and sunroom look. They did a terrific job and we have recommended them often.

Kris from Kris Konstruction came over in mid September for the initial review of the project. He arrived promptly and was very open and cordial as we reviewed the bathroom. He asked a lot of questions and answered all of our questions. We sat down and agreed upon, what we felt was, a very reasonable price for a bathroom remodel. He and his project manager came out within a month to look over the bathroom, assess the materials that were needed, and make sure there weren't any questions from us. The project manager started the next day and arrived promptly when he said he would. The project manager and his assistant came prepared with dropcloths to minimize the mess as they came in and out of the house. Some minor mistakes were made on the first day which were quickly rectified. The whole project took about a week and a half to complete and was a little longer than we thought but we'd rather a slow and steady approach with little to no issues than a quick sloppy job. We've been very happy with the results of the bathroom. In a room that sees as much use as it does, detailed work is a must and these guys delivered. We will definitely look to Kris Konstruction for future projects.
Description of Work: A partially gutted main bathroom was demo'ed the rest of the way. The floor and the shower/bath walls were tiled. All of the plumbing was checked. All of the fixtures, toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet, mirror, wainscotting, and fan were installed. New baseboard covers were installed. All of the trimwork, drywall repair and painting was completed.

Kris Konstruction remodeled our Kitchen. We combined our dining room and kitchen into one. We couldn't have been happier with the results. Everyone who came into our home was extremely professional. There were some structural changes that needed to be made and everything went exactly as planned. The project manager Justin was always there exactly when promised. There were a few unforeseen bumps in the road but everything from demo to walk through far exceeded our expectations. Everyone who comes into our home, can't believe how different and more functional the kitchen is now. Our next project will be our bathrooms and we will definitely be calling on Kris Konstruction to work their magic. Thank you to Kris, Justin, Jeremy and Chris! You did GREAT job.

The overall work performance was/is very poor workmanship. Very poor communications as to what was to be included in the bathroom. The supervisor was changed twice which is what caused work delays and redoes. When it was time for plastering the men did not wear booties, did not cover the doorway to cut down on the amount of dust to enter into the bedroom and the rest of the house. They were sloppy to the point where I said they are not to return. So a new sub-contractor was sent in. Other sub-contractors were considerate that they were performing a service in someone's home. The electrical wiring was so poor that the county issued 2 failed inspections. The subcontractors for tiling, building the glass block shower and carpentry were pleasant to work with. After showering for a while the plaster tape was peeling from the vaulted ceiling so that was a redo. A crack formed at the peak of the ceiling so that was a repair. The tape started to peel from that area so that was a redo. Each time there was a dusty mess to clean up. Not to mention repainting the ceiling and not to use it for a day. The bathroom would fill with steam to the point a floor cabinet became imbedded into the wall. The reason was because no holes were cut in the soffit for the exhaust fan to let out steam. To this day, the ongoing problem is the stone and brick work. There are smudges of mortar on all the stones and in the crevices of the corduroy brick. There are stones and bricks that are cracked. The bricklayer came out to review his work. He shrugged his shoulders and said "I knew I should not have taken this job". He was gone! I did not want him back. A workman started cleaning the stones but was very undependable...he would not show up or had a reason not to. I think Kris should have done some research on him before hiring him. The communication between myself and Kris Konstruction has been mainly by email through the month of October. This shows me he is not taking my issues seriously because a phone call is personal and an email is a quick communication without a personal touch. All of the talk for doing the repair work started in April and it is still incomplete. MY HOUSE IS MY HOME AND THE CONTRACTOR HAS NOT SHOWN ME THAT HE RESPECTS THAT. This was supposed to be a fun and exciting undertaking instead it is stressed induced and repeated times of cleaning up behind the workers and waiting for my emails/phone calls to be answered and appointments to be kept.. It got to the point where I had punch lists for the workmen. They would roll their eyes and sometimes not take me seriously. There were times where work had to be redone because communication within the company was inconsistent. Very poor management! It took a while for the contractor to find the close match to the existing stone as there was no mention in my file what it was. The wall next to the stairs has had new stones installed, however they do not match the original stones. I want all stones to be true in color. The contractor has been told they will fade but I don't think in my lifetime. I also want the cracked bricks to be replaced. Please read this again because I don't want this to happen to another consumet. No matter how vigilant you are, bad things can still happen. Over the weekend I looked over the bathroom just to make sure that no more cracking existed. There are cracks. There is one on either end of the vaulted ceiling, the spackling tape is once again peeling off and there are 2 cracks on either side of the walk in closet. The exhaust fan over the shower is not working again! We had thought it was but I took a tissue to the vent and it fell off so it is humming but no exhaust. I purchased a dehumidifier for the bathroom to help dry it out. I have NO confidence in any of the installations at this point. UPDATE: I took him to court over this work, since he wasn't willing to fix what needed to be fixed. The contractor was found guilty of poor workmanship, he has since paid the claim.
Description of Work: A bathroom addition, finally, with all the bells and whistles I wanted and the design was mine. It was added to the front of the house. A foundation was poured, walls, ceiling, roofing were built. Stone, tile, glass block and porcelain sinks were installed, A granite top was cut for the countertop, the shower seat and the entrance to the shower, a whirpool tub was installed. In general everything that is needed to create a bathroom plus the materials that I choose to be installed. It took me many requests that a medicine cabinet was to be included. Who does not have a medicine cabinet. ! Windows were installed, however, they do not open. A stone veneer with brick quins covers the exterior. They cracked and they are covered with smudges of mortar. This is has become a struggling, frustrating ongoing nightmare. The walls need to be rebuilt.

Response from Kris Konstruction Design & Build Group
20 Years in Business, Perfect Record at the Maryland Home Improvement Commission, A+ Rating at the Better Business Bureau, A Rating with Angie’s List and Thousands of Satisfied Customers! As the owner and operator of Kris Konstruction I would like to respond to this negative report on my company. We were contracted to build a custom bathroom addition for the member. The addition was built on a masonry crawlspace foundation. This project was permitted and ALL appropriate inspections PASSED. Unfortunately, the foundation settled and compromised the stone exterior. We were notified and explained to the member that we would honor our "LIFETIME WARRANTY" and we would make all necessary repairs. We further requested that we would wait to make the repairs until an entire season had passed to make sure there was no further settlement. Shortly after, I received a letter from the Maryland Home Improvement Commission regarding the repairs (I have been a licensed contractor for 20 years without a complaint). I spoke with an independent home inspector who was assigned to the case. He gave me a list of repairs to make and we took care of all the repairs to the member's approval (excluding stone work). He also commented “what a nice job we did” on the original work. Keep in mind, he is a licensed home inspector for the Maryland Home Improvement Commission. As promised, we removed the cracked stone and replaced it with the exact material that was installed originally. The existing stone has faded slightly as will the new stone. This was expressed to me directly from the stone manufacturing representative. The member also wanted us to remove any excess mortar off of the stone. Although, I think the excess mortar was not very noticeable, and was industry standard. Even though there was excess mortar on her existing brick (Not Job Related), I told her I would have someone address the issue. I was unable to contract someone to clean the stone as quickly as the member would have liked. The member recommended an Angies List Approved contractor who I spoke to and sent to her home. After going to her home, he informed me he would not take the job because" Nobody would be able to Make Her Happy ". I also left 3 messages for someone else the member recommended, and they would not call me back. So here we are. I have tried everything in my power to make the member satisfied. I am very upset that she is not happy, as well as a negative report on my company. 20 years in business, Perfect Record at the Maryland Home Improvement Commission, A+ Rating at the Better Business Bureau, A Rating with Angie’s List, Thousands of satisfied customers and I am very sorry I was unable to make the member happy! If you are thinking about using Kris Konstruction, PLEASE check our references on our website (kriskonstruction.com) or call our office (1-877-638-1803) to get a reference in you neighborhood. I wish everyone could see the job we did for the member, It is Beautiful! Sincerely, Kris Randlett President of Kris Konstruction

We found when Kris arrived, that he seemed in a hurry, and after measuring the bathroom, he primarily wanted to explain the boundaries of the Angie's Deal. First we had issues with the pricing: we found that for $5,900 it covered only the most low end/basic materials (low end tub, toilet, vanity, plain square medicine cabinet, etc.) My husband and I were looking for a middle of the road remodel (tile shower, bead board on the wall etc)...certainly not bottom line but not top of the line either. While we got no price break for having a smaller than specified bathroom, everything we wanted we found to be extra. For example, the Deal covered 40 sq ft of tile (we found to be approx. 1/2 of a shower). To tile our shower and shower floor it would cost over $2,000 extra. To tile the bathroom floor was extra (that was to be expected), to get the shower door, vanity toilet, mirror, etc etc etc...everything was extra. I can understand it on one level (it does depend on what we choose), however when all was said and done, the final estimate including labor and materials would have been over twice the cost of the Big Deal. And, what was supposed to be a bargain ended up being higher than two other quality contractors' estimates who came recommended by friends. Then there was Kris...I don't know if this job was too small to invest his time or what the situation was, however, we found that he interrupted frequently, didn't listen, didn't answer our questiions...my husband felt he was impolite and slightly condescending. He did not add value in making suggestions either. For example, we said we wanted a glass shower door. He recommended one that costs $1,800 with thick heavy glass, that would overpower the bathroom and there was not enough room for the door to open. We did not leave the meeting with a good feeling about him or the company. Perhaps the Angie's Big Deal wasn't priced properly to cover what most people would want.... and in the end we cancelled the big deal and are going with another contractor. We are trying to be fair because we know people read the reviews....and we wanted people to know our experience as well.
Description of Work: We purchased an Angie's Big Deal for a "complete bathroom remodel" for $5,900. Kris came out to measure the bathroom, find out what we wanted and give us a more accurate estimate. If we liked the work with the first bathroom, we were going to have a second bathroom remodeled. We received an estimate of the first bathroom at the meeting which we appreciated. The bathroom was small approx. 8' by 3'. Bottom line: we ended up cancelling the Angie's Big Deal based on what we were told and our experience with Kris.

Response from Kris Konstruction Design & Build Group
I am very sorry the Angie's List BIG DEAL did not work out for you. We have sold over 20 "Big Deals" and have contracted 18. The way the "big deal" works is very specific in the scope of the project as well as a modest allowance for all fixtures. Most of our contracted "big deal" customers were able to stay within the parameter of the $5,900. This potential "big deal" customer wanted to replace an existing tub with a custom poured shower pan. This application is not only time consuming but costly. She did want a higher end shower unit, so I suggested a glass door in lieu of the shower rod. I did tell her the glass enclosure would cost between $1,500 and $2,000. They are expensive, but that is what they cost. Regarding any other up charges, they were based on the materials or fixtures that the member suggested. The Angie's List "big deal" clearly lists the allowances for all of the materials used for this remodel. I did review the "big deal" with the member several times because she seemed upset that the upgrades she wanted were going to raise the price. The written estimate I left with her was for $7,710. (Did not include the shower door). I also told the member that there was no pressure to sign or contract our company and if she wanted to she could get a 100% refund. If I sounded condescending, I am truly sorry, that is not my personality. As far as me being in a rush, the member expressed she had another appointment she did not want to be late for, so I tried to accommodate her. I think the member was a very nice person, but unfortunately the "big deal" that has worked for 20 new Kris Konstruction customers did not fit her project.
