Less than 30 minutes after requesting an estimate, I received a phone call from a Newpro representative. The person I spoke to was very polite and professional. However, I ran into problems as soon as he asked me my name and if I had a wife. When I said I had a wife, after already agreeing on a consultation time, he insisted that they would not send someone out to give me an estimate unless my wife was also present. As my wife and I are on different schedules, it is very difficult for us both to be present at the same time. Oddly enough, my wife WAS present when I was on the phone with Newpro, and even stated that she didn't care if the estimate proceeded without her. Apparently that wasn't sufficient. Bottom line is, I wanted an estimate on how much it would be for me as a homeowner to have someone come and install this one window. They were not able to complete this task because of a company policy requiring my wife to be present. Now I'll have to look elsewhere for a contractor who is willing to come to my house and deal with me and not have to rely on my wife, who knows and cares as much about windows as my cat does. I'll probably install the window myself at this point, but was merely looking for an estimate. I didn't expect to have to coordinate my whole family's schedule just to find out how much it would cost to have someone install a window for me. I'm not saying Newpro is a bad company, nor am I making a comment about the products they use. I'm simply stating that this policy of theirs made my experience unpleasant enough that I will not be using them for this window, nor for the 10 other windows in my house that will eventually need to be replace. This policy lost them more than one sale.
Description of Work: I requested an estimate from a contractor on Andersonwindows.com. It forwarded my information to Newpro. I requested an estimate on a repair of a sill and replacement of a window in my kitchen.

My roof has been leaking from ice dam damages this past winter. Just when I thought I should call a roofer, a Newpro salesperson happened on my street. I scheduled an estimate. Two guys came on the appointed date, a Saturday, around the appointed time. Instead of doing a 15 minutes estimate, it took them 4 hrs. They lingered at my house and literally gave me lecture on roofing and gutters. Then they proceeded to quote me a price of $20K for the project: $17K for roof replacement and $3K for gutter & gutter cap replacement.** This price was supposedly after a very deep discount where the salesperson had to call the owner to get approval and is cash only** This is my first house and my first roofing project so I had no idea. Because they were persuasive, I ended up signing a contract with them. The following Monday, I talked to some folks at work and realized how ridiculous the quote was. I immediately called the salesperson notifying him that I will rescind the contract. I signed the cancellation form and mailed it certified next day. I followed up with 2 emails but no one replied. I then called the headquarter a week later to make sure my cancellation was being processed. They assured me it was. I waited again until I still haven’t seen the check on the 9th day. I called the headquarter again to remind them that legally, they have 10 days to refund my money and that day is tomorrow. The rep told me he would check on it and would call me back within an hour. No call. Today, the 10th day, I called yet again for my long awaited refund. I was told that the check was mailed yesterday and I should see it in 2 days. This is way past the 10 day limit and I think 10 days is already exceedingly reasonable. After all, it only takes 5 minutes to cut a check. On the whole, I am completely dissatisfied. May I add that subsequent quotes I got for a roof replacement ranges from only $6500 to $10,000? NewPro was charging $7K more than the next most expensive contractor. And none of them took more than 20 minutes to give me an estimate. What a waste of time and energy. If you are looking for a roofing job, I would advise you to go elsewhere.

Thank you for your feedback. As an owner of the company I am very concerned and compelled to respond to negative experiences. When providing a product consultation and estimate to homeowners, the length of the visit time may vary based on the volume of questions and scope of work especially when presenting multiple products. NEWPRO strives to be as efficient as possible and respects your valuable time. Regarding your disatisfaction with communication, this greatly bothers me as we pride ourselves on our award winning customer service. I do not know the individual you were dealing with but I have addressed your disatisfaction with the entire team as anything less than exceptional customer service is not acceptable. Regarding financing - NEWPRO does offer convenient finance options, but with finance options comes upfront fees and additional expenses a company may incur. To avoid these additonal costs and fees, NEWPRO passes along the savings to our valued customers with cash incentives and discounts. Regarding the return deposit, NEWPRO is required by federal law to return deposits within 10 business days excluding Sunday. After reviewing your record, NEWPRO was in compliance and returned your deposit on day 10. In regards to the price in comparison to other estimates you received. NEWPRO has been in business for over 65 years and has earned the reputation for quality product AND customer service through over a 100 thousand loyal customers. Our customers have peace of mind knowing our longevity and the fact that we will be at their service should they need us for years to come. In many instances we visit customers who are repeating a project due to the fact they selected a company based on price only and did not consider all the variables that can effect their investment and their product failed. NEWPRO may not be the least expensive but our prices are representative of not only superior product but expert installation, award winning customer service, best in industry warranties and peace of mind knowing we are your home improvement partner and are one call away now and in the future.

Overall everything went very well. They were in and out in two days, and sent people back to clean the white composite railings that had gotten soiled in the process of roofing. Representatives kept coming back until I had signed off on the project. On the minus side, they subcontracted the work to a group of latinos who arrived shortly after 7 a.m. with a female driver who acted as a translator. She was not a supervisor, only a driver/translator. So there was no foreman/supervisor, so to speak, and no one to communicate with. The group of workers had no insurance papers with them, and it took a while for someone with the proper documentation to arrive. Meanwhile the dumpster that had been promised to be on the premises the day before the job started arrived while the job was in progress and the dumpster delivery man proceeded to begin backing the dumpster onto the brick driveway rather than the gravel driveway clearly indicated on the paperwork. If I had not been home to begin yelling at him he would have ruined thousands of dollars of brickwork and put the dumpster in the wrong place. Despite the Newpro promise that the company representative would walk around the job site with me to make sure everything was okay, the driver/interpreter tried to get me to sign off on the job as soon as the latino crew was done, even though the gutter work in the contract had not even been started. And despite the promise by a PR man named John that the crew would go around with a large magnet to pick up any loose nails, that never happened. I picked up about three dozen nails with my own magnet after they were gone. The gutter man arrived a couple of days later, tore down the old gutters, replaced some of the old wood fascia, installed new gutters and downspouts, corrected an existing problem in an old downspout, and cleaned up after himself. He did such a great job I asked to have him come back to replace a couple of other gutters and downspouts, and, because I had not been totally satisfied with the roof work, Newpro had him return and do the work at no cost to myself. As I said to the two men (John and Mark) who followed up each day, the main problem with the group that came to do the work was that they had no foreman/supervisor who could communicate with the homeowner and the work crew. The driver/translator didn't know anything about the work, and the workers didn't speak or understand English. I believe the job would have been perfect if someone had been around at the beginning of each day to make sure everything was going as planned. I would have felt a lot more comfortable about the process as well. The driver/translator, as far as I was concerned, was a total waste. She couldn't answer any questions and had to get on her cell phone whenever an issue popped up. If I got seriously concerned about what was going on, I had to place a call to the off-site boss, a fellow named Mark, who seldom picked up when I called but always got back to me later. I got the impression Mark had several crews working for him and was probably stretched a little. Because we have several decks from which sections of the new roof can be seen, it's easy to be hypercritical. So I want to make it clear that overall I am very pleased with the roof and the gutters and downspouts. The main problem, which I'm sure will be forgotten in the next 20 or 30 years, was communication, or lack thereof, because of the nonexistent foreman. If Newpro could correct this they would be golden. Both Mark and John were extremely conciliatory and polite, despite my occasional rants.
Description of Work: They removed three layers of shingles over 30 years old, put new plywood over the existing boards, covered the plywood with DeclArmor insulating material, installed ice and water shields along every edge, put in a new roof vent, installed new 30 year shingles, made sure two gables matched hip and roof, overlapped shingles in the valleys, and provided a 20-year warranty. They also took down some wooden gutters and installed 66 feet of stainless gutters & downspouts.

The quality of the windows is excellent. I was very unhappy with the installation, however. I think they are riding on the quality of the windows, and they tend to neglect their customer service. I have contacted them by letter about the installation issues and never heard back from them. They had to take off the side rails, take the old window out, and put the new window in. I have seen them replace the wooden side rails with a nail gun with screws without filling the screw holes that were left there. They left the screws unpainted as well. They have also chipped off paint around some of the windows and I am still living with the results of that. The quality of the window is an A, but the quality of the workmanship is a B. They are expensive, but the product is great, and it has reduced my energy bills. They are responsive by phone, but I was disappointed that they never responded to my survey card. The window order was placed quickly, the windows came in quickly, and they were always very nice. However, the crews were not as punctual as they could have been and I would probably not use them again given the installation problems I had.

The windows themselves I love because they are triple pane and cut down on all the noise from the street. The installers were great. They cleaned up after themselves and showed me how to use them. My biggest concern was with the salesman who came to the house. He told me that we should wait for my husband’s approval and when I said that I was the one in charge, he still insisted. I told him then that I was not married. He also kept pressuring me to buy windows, which I did not need and I had to tell him to get out of my house and threatened to call 911. Also, the garden window leaked, which they did repair and then they came back and redid it. I do not think they did a good job of caulking around the window, but it does not leak anymore. They disposed of my old window. I think they are very costly though.

It was a hard sell from the outset (note that this was some time ago but I doubt it's changed). Once they're in the door, they are tenacious, quoting an absurd price leaving you to hammer it down. The annoying thing is that the product is really very good - they're solidly built, triple glazed units that work exactly as described. But their sales tactics stink. The installation was shoddy at best (and is subcontacted) so much so we had to have someone from the company come out to repair the damage and make the installation look half decent. On the plus side, we've had one window which wouldn't stay up and the company responded fairly quickly with a courteous guy who adjusted it (they have a lifetime warranty) and didn't try to sell us more! Horrendous buying experience though, and even if a fair price was reached in the end, we were left feeling like we probably got ripped off. Nice product, good after sales support - shoddy installation and terrible sales technique.

It has been noted by several other members that Newpro is more of a sales company than a window company. The salesman spent two hours at the house, and they never even sent me an estimate after leaving. Essentially, they are counting on you to purchase windows the moment they end their pitch. The windows are efficient but ugly.

Initially Newpro came in to estimate entire house of windows. The price was way too high for us and the high pressure sales pitch was not something we were anticipating as new home owners. After we said we could not commit we received a call "from the manager" a couple of days later touting a more affordable yet still better than the competition brand of window they would offer "just for us because we seemed like really nice people". The manager came to do this presentation and we focused on just one window that was a priority for replacement. The price was more in our range so we had Newpro do the work. The installers were very professional and did a nice job of installing the window and had to make a special trip out to get more material to replace a rotted out sill. This was all part of the cost. They did a good job on cleanup, but did leave marks on the walls around the window and a few nicks in the ceiling. Upon receiving the much talked about follow up call from the President's mother, I mentioned the paint and ceiling damage and that I was unhappy with that aspect of the work, and was offered nothing more than a "thank you for choosing Newpro". But other than those minor issues, I was very happy with the installation and know that the sill they repaired was a major issue and that was all included in the price.

BEWARE: HIGH PRESSURE BAIT AND SWITCH. Heavy handed sales tactics designed to get you to sign. Came in with an outrageous estimate and then started lowering the price - calling the "manager" to get me a special deal. When I wouldn't bite, the "district manager" called me to try to sell me their 2 pane windows that they "only sell to business." This was a LIE - all part of their sales plan. Beware of manipulation - they are trained to always ask you for a glass of water when they come to show you their plan. This is something they are taught to you in the habit of getting you to do what they ask.

What a joke. The high pressure salesman showed up ready to do his thing. After nearly an hour of him flipping through pages of his book telling me all the incredible things about Newpro windows--including the heat lamp demonstration and all--I got the ridiculous quote of more than $1,000 per window. No thanks. Then I got the used car salesman bit--if I purchase right then and there, I'd get a discount. Right. Once I told them I was not interested, I thought it was over. Four days later, I've now gotten 4 calls from more salesmen (all of whom have used exactly the same sales pitch--verbatim) telling me they have a special offer "just for me" because some other people in my neighborhood are getting windows at the same time. Give me a break. Notwithstanding their repeated calls, they would not give me the price over the phone. They insist that they need to come back out to give the quote in person. I wouldn't let one of these people on my property if they paid me.

Filled in a form on their website, their sales person called the next day. I called when I got the message, spoke with a different salesperson. At first they seemed flexible with timing, but they require both spouses to be there in person for the estimate. I'd heard plenty of stories about other companies doing similar things, I guess they think it's easier to do a hard-sell if both husband & wife are there. I said no, that only one of us would be available. End of phone call. End of transaction, I'm looking for their competitors now.

After signing contract, installation expert visited house within a week to double check measurements made by salesman, plus check frames and molding that might need replacement so crew would arrive fully prepared, which they did. Everything went exactly to schedule, even though done in January on a Friday and Monday, with Monday having a snowstorm! Two-man installation crew was professional in every respect. Master installer spent time in shop over weekend to make up exterior panels so could work in snowstorm (all work on windows done from inside). Cleaned up after each day; on first day when my wife got home after crew left, she complimented me on cleaning up and I told her that was done by the installers. The sales pitch is over the top, and the pricing scheme mentioned by others is a gimmick, but after over one year, we are completely satisfied with our choice, very high quality windows that do what the company claims. I did have to paint new interior molding but my choice to do so.
Description of Work: Replaced 16 old double-hung windows plus the primary front and back doors and storm doors on an 1865 Victorian house. Replacement of windows included removal of old storm windows and (at our option) installation of aluminum facing over exterior window molding. If you get a kick out of interacting with aggressive salespeople, you should definitely give Newpro a call. To us, their approach was awkward, sleazy and a major turn-off. It doesn't cease to amaze me that the leadership of Newpro chooses to approach new costumers in such a way. Maybe I would have hired them and paid the extra money if the sales people weren't so obnoxious.
Description of Work: WINDOW REPLACEMENT QUOTE THE NEWPRO WAY ($20000) -- [1] You will call to set up an appointment and they will make sure your spouse is at home for their visit. [2] You will be visited by SALES people, not contractors or window installation specialists. [3] They will take 1 hour of your time, of which 10 min will be looking at the job, and 50 min sales pitch. This includes a hocus-pocus demo using a heat lamp. [4] They will offer a grossly overpriced estimate arguing they are ''the best''. [5] They will offer you a substantial discount to the initial price if you sign an agreement on the spot. They may even offer an additional discount if you put a Newpro plaque in our driveway. [6] They will get pissy if they leave your home empty-handed. One sales person didn't even deign to say goodbye. [7] They will call you insistently at home to offer an even better deal. But wasn't the ''on the spot'' discount a ''one time opportunity''?

Pleasant enough sales rep but the hard sell was a joke. The price just kept falling - provided of course we signed off then and there. It just didn't make sense to me that they would be willing to sell the windows for $9000 today but not tomorrow, when the difference would be earning $9000 or earning nothing! The sleazy sales approach totally colored my view of the whole company - I'd never do business with them even though the product itself looked reasonable quality, if a bit ugly.

We are considering replacing our old windows and figured a good place to start would be the basement - where the windows are only 1 sheet of old plate glass. Salesman came out and gave us an estimate of close to $10,000 to replace 9 small basement windows! We said ''forget it'' and then asked about our home windows - which are very large - and they too were around $1,000 each. As the meeting went on, the price kept dropping - e.g. if we signed ''today'', if we put a sign up, etc. Didn't like the slick sales presentation at all; it felt very high-pressured. Their product seemed very good but sales approach and pricing structure were a total turnoff. Said a written estimate would be coming within a couple of days, but that never happened. I don't think we'll be getting windows from Newpro!

I was a little wary when they would not perform the estimate without my husband present, and although the representative was very professional and the demonstration very informative, their quote was over $19,000!!!! When we balked at the price we were offered an on the spot discount only good if we signed an agreement that day. Very high pressure and we were made to feel a little guilty for admitting we couldn't afford it and it was RIDICULOUSLY WAY OUT OF OUR PRICE RANGE (or anyone in their right mind). As my first time window replacing I wish I would have done more research on this company. The salesman came over with all the bells, whistles and reports showing me how great these windows are. The windows are good. I did notice a difference in my heating bill, but if I was to do it again I would have passed on purchasing these Newpro windows because the are so OVERPRICED. I still bare the guilt of paying so much for these windows. My suggestion to those looking for windows is do your research, and get at least three window replacement quotes before you move on this kind of project because it is a big deal. Also, if you are going to buy these windows play their game. You should be prepared for some hard negotiations. These salesmen are unrelentless, so be forewarned.
Description of Work: The techs came and installed the eleven windows. They also placed cracked molding on one window and what looked liked scrap molding around the bathroom window. The wood looked like seconds or thirds. I mean it looked like it should have been use to start a campfire instead of going on my wall. I was mortified when I came home and saw what they did. I called the company, and the installers came within a few days. The guy asked me if he could fill it in with wood putty? Wood putty? You got to be kidding me. I told him for the amount of money I spent on these windows, lets replace the molding shall we. Also, the finishing nails they used were not flush with the wood and I had to go around after they left to all the windows and tap them in. Unbelievable. For the money I paid for these windows I would think that they would have done a better job than that. I see the commercial and see what the company must think of people, they must think we are idiots.

We are very satisfied with the products. The sales approach is a bit off-putting, but the second time I handled it myself (without my husband). They did a terrific job on the conservatory (although I am not aware if they still carry this line). The window and doors operate flawlessly. We did have a lock on one of the doors malfunction. They came right out and replaced the lock assembly. The installers were professional, prompt, and cleaned up daily. We could not be happier with the product or the installation.
Description of Work: We had Newpro do three separate jobs for us. The first was to provide and install a glass conservatory, at a cost of about $30,000. This was built in England and shipped to the U.S. The second job, a year later, was to replace half of our windows and add windows to the house. The next year, we finished installing new windows, added several windows, and replaced some exterior doors. The conservatory is wonderful. We looked at products from other suppliers which were much more expensive and of lower relative quality. The workmanship was meticulous; they even dismantled part of the foundation and rebuilt it because it was not 100% plumb. The windows are tight and easy to clean. We had to turn our thermostat down 5 degrees in the winter because the old temperature was too hot! Obviously, we were losing more heat than we were aware of.
