Tino Bonanno was very prompt in response to my email query, as I needed a lot of masonry work done, and done quickly. He came out to meet me within a few days, and delivered a reasonable quote, given the scope of the job. He estimated the job would take 3 days, and the crew has been right on schedule. Everyone on Tino's crew worked well together, were extremely neat, professional, courteous, and wanted to please. They cleaned up each day (this is day 3) leaving the area neat and tidy. They will have completed the job this afternoon. I can't say enough good things about this company!!! Because my husband and I weren't sure about different types of blue stone, Tino offered to meet us at the stone yard to educate us, and show us examples, soliciting our thoughts on multiple textures and colors. It was incredibly helpful. Everything looks fantastic, and we are thrilled with how it all has come together so beautifully. I would recommend Bonanno Construction to all my neighbors and anyone needing masonry work done, and done without problems. This crew of skilled artisans, (who have a natural eye for aesthetics) have been a delight to behold as they have been working along. We have had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. We couldn't be happier with the final results!
Description of Work: Services performed: -Re pointing and repair work needed for a set of brick stairs falling apart, - -Repointing an expanse of brick edging along the property. -Rebuilding / and repair work on a concrete retaining wall- retaining wall needed a new capstone. Capped retaining wall with blue stone. -They dug out the original cement walkways, which were old and beginning to look pretty bad. Replaced concrete walkways with blue stone and cobblestone. One of the walkways has a step from the street edge down to the walkway (our house is set on a hill, so our land is below our house in areas, except at one side where the street is)- also replaced concrete on step, replaced with bluestone -Added a handful of stepping stones within a recessed area, which I had also requested. We also needed to replace the original wooden picket fence that had been set into/above the retaining wall, so Tino connected us to a fence guy who will install the fence before the end of this month. Price would have been higher, but I was able to make use of an Angie's List coupon for this company, which saved $250.

Wooden steps in front of my house were about 15 years old and needed to be replaced. Bobby, who I think owns the company, gave me a few suggestions. I went by his recommendation to install new steps made of stone. The project was completed by a crew of two in a single day. The quality of work is very good and the price I paid was reasonable. Also, everyone I interacted with was very polite and professional. My only complaint is that communication was a bit of a struggle. Calls were not returned promptly and sometimes I had to leave multiple voice-mails before I heard back. None of my emails were answered. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the outcome and will consider Bonanno Constructions for my future projects also.
Description of Work: Removed the old wooden landscaping steps and installed new made of stone.

Two workers arrived on schedule to remove the defective part of the foundation. They were polite and neat, and worked quickly, removing any rubble from the scene. Next, Tino came by to inspect their work, and it was then that he called in his carpenter to assess the horrid mess of rotted wood and timbers that were laid bare after opening the space up. Tino sent me a revised estimate. The next day, the carpenter and one assistant began the process of replacing the damaged wooden support structure, including the wooden sills, and any cedar shakes that had to be removed in the process. This took two days. Tino stopped by to inspect this structural carpentry work prior to the masonry workers' return. Next, the masons built up the wall, using cement blocks and hand mixed cement, including six inches under and inside the sliding glass doors, and finishing the wall to match the surface beneath the new section and the rest of the house foundation. They returned the next day, to cut a hole for a vent, and installed the vent, touching up any masonry as needed, after the addition of the vent. I called Mr. Fonseca to say that the wall had been completed. He came by to remove the house and sliding glass door supports, and to caulk and touch up any drill holes or marks left by removing his support structure. I need to wait about a month before I can treat the cement, let it dry, and then prime and paint it. I will do this part of the project myself. The contractors and I were perplexed by one thing. We had had some sliding glass doors replaced two years before in the middle of the winter. After those contractors finished the job, one said, "Oh by the way, you need to have your foundation repaired." Here is a good reason why the homeowner should inspect the job being done every step of the way. If I had gone out into the snow and looked at the work after they took out one set of doors and before they installed the second set, the damage at least to the sills, would have been most evident, just as it had been after the half wall had been removed. I was too trusting. At the time, I said, "Why didn't you say that before you did the installation?" They just looked at me. I have learned my lesson. When I inspected the work just after the masons removed the half wall this time, I knew the original estimate and the work needed would have to be revised. Those careless door installers were hired prior to my joining Angie's List.
Description of Work: Due to water damage to a porch foundation(built in 1947,) that once was enclosed with only screens, but now had sliding glass doors, one of two sides of the foundation needed to be repaired. I had already had a strucure built to support the corner of the house and the sliding glass doors by Fernando Fonseca. I had not been happy with the first masonry estimate I had gotten, and so, emailed Tino Bonanno. He replied immediately, and said he would stop by to take a look. Tino's original estimate was reasonable, and it was evident that he knew exactly how to proceed with the job. He told me that it should be done as soon as possible, due to the visible condition of the foundation wall, but he could not start the job for two weeks. Tino also said that he would adjust the estimate, before proceeding, if once he opened up he foundation, he found additional structural damage . I asked for an email estimate, and he got back to me that night with it. I then, emailed my acceptance of his price, and he replied that the job would start in two weeks as promised. Once the workers opened up the foundation, it was very evident that the water damage was very extensive. Whoever built the first porch foundation and cement flooring, did a very poor and shoddy job. The cement flooring and field stone had been poured and set in two sessions, with only plaster wall type metal mesh embedded in the cement. There was no rebar in the cement attaching the flooring to the sills of the house. The underneath cement layer was bowing in the middle, because it had been poured over and around the wood joists, which had rotted out. All the two-by-four supports and joists were totally rotted out, probably (no, definitely) because there was no ventilation under the porch. The supporting sills under one inside edge of the porch, and also that sill leading into the rest of the basement foundation, were heavily water damaged. The original estimate was to replace half the back foundation wall for $5,500.00. After Tino's carpenter came by and assessed the amount of wood support and sill that had to be replace (including a primary wood support under the middle of the porch floor, so that the carpenter could work without fear of the cement floor falling on him,) the estimate was revized to the higher number. I think of how there had been two of us, a table and chairs, and giant rosemary and bay leaf plants always occupying that porch. Very scary.

Bob Bonanno was quick to respond to my initial inquiry, and his estimate was handed to me during our first meeting. Scheduling the job was very satisfactory, and the work crew arrived as promised and worked diligently to complete the job in less than a week. From the original estimate, to the final day of construction I have nothing but praise for Bonanno Construction. The project foreman, William, and his entire work crew were well organized, courteous, professional, and exceptionally clean and neat -- no small task for such a messy job. And of course, the finished steps and landing are well built, beautiful and classy. The crew took great care not to disturb my numerous yard plantings, and at the project’s completion my yard looked as if the masons had never been there, except for the gorgeous new steps. Thank you, Bonanno Construction, for your fine work and pleasant experience.
Description of Work: We had our front entry steps and landing demolished and replaced. The old entry was concrete/cinder block with inlayed brick on the three steps; the landing was cement. The new entry is entirely faced with brick, and the steps and landing are granite. The landing was enlarged from the original which required excavation and poured concrete around the perimeter for the larger size. The Bonanno team also removed four huge shrub stumps and roots balls that were adjacent to the steps. After the demolition of the old steps, Bob Bonanno had his carpenter, Phil, look at the join between the steps and the house’s sill plate, where there typically could be water damage and/or termite damage. There was a bit of dry rot on some boards (insignificant on the foundation sill plate). Phil did a super job of replacing the bad boards with pressure-treat, and covering them with a rubber water barrier. That was the only additional cost we incurred from the original estimate; however, that cost was not unexpected.

Bonanno Construction was professional from start to finish. They came on time, with a large work crew, and worked efficiently and neatly. This was a big job, with a lot of brick and debris to remove....and it was HOT that week. They were as neat as possible and worked quickly but did an amazing job. The job was done in exactly one week....I was amazed that they got it all done as quickly as they did! Our neighbor commented on how hard the crew worked all day long. We decided we wanted to add the paver path from the back door to the first level as the job progressed and that was no problem....they were flexible and accomodating. Tino Bonanno oversaw the project and he was great to deal with. The work is very high quality - we could not be happier with how it all turned out...what a hard working crew. We wholeheartedly recommend Bonanno Construction.
Description of Work: We have a terraced property with 3 levels behind our house, retaining walls and steps between each level. A few of the walls (original to the house) had fallen down and the others were ready to fall also. Bonanno Construction came and removed the remaining walls, excavated the area, installed drainage behind the new walls, built 2 sets of retaining walls with paver paths and granite steps in between. In addition they installed a paver path from our door to the first retaining wall.

We attempted to engage Bonanno Construction for repair of two walkways in front of our house. They were prompt at making a visit for the estimate, offered a good price, gave a good explanation of what they were going to do and offered sound advice. Based on this we asked them to do the work. There was only one small problem - they never showed up to do the project. Initially rain was given as the excuse but then weeks and months of heat wave / drought went by and they never came. They kept feeding us "this Friday"s and "next Monday"s as if the word gullible has been taken out of the dictionary. We were not actually in a particular hurry and if they said "we'll do the job in 2 months" and followed through it would have been fine with us. However they said "2-4 weeks" and nothing happened after 2.5 months. We will obviously be engaging a different contractor now.

I had previously gotten a quote from Tino for another project. Even though we went with someone else for that work, I was so impressed with him that he was on the top of my list to call when our foundation needed repair. I also asked him to bid on patio work at that time. What I like the most about Tino is that his recommendations are always sensible, appropriate, and budget-conscious. Other contractors wanted to rip out all the walls beneath our foundation, but Tino didn't think that was necessary, and explained why that would just create problems in the end. It was his idea to add a planting bed to the patio to keep people away from the retaining wall edge (about a 3' drop), and I'm so glad he suggested that. I'd also asked him about putting steps into another retaining wall on our property, but he advised against it, saying it would be too expensive, and that I was better of talking to a carpenter. There were a few delays in starting because of our rainy June, but Tino was always great about getting back to me with updates. When his crew did arrive, they worked very quickly and efficiently, digging out the entire patio area by hand. They completed the entire project (foundation and patio) in less than a week -- I couldn't believe how fast they were! I'd been a little worried about how people would get up onto patio because of the elevation on 2 sides, and Tino told me he'd take care of it. He brought in 2 beautiful bluestone slabs for steps which look beautiful and work perfectly. I could not be happier with the final product. Even though TIno wasn't on site for the work, he came by on the last day to make sure I was happy with everything. It was obvious he takes a lot of pride in his crew's work. His suggestions were so helpful, and his prices very competitive. The patio looks absolutely gorgeous, and we've been out there every evening since it was put in.
Description of Work: Repaired crumbling foundation beneath 9' x 9' 3 season porch. Supported structure, removed existing foundation, and put in new concrete block foundation. Installed 13' x 22' patio with 2' planter bed on one side. Patio included a retaining wall (up to 4') on two sides to level uneven slope.

He returned on or about April 17, 2012. His crew had the old wall down and in the dumpster within 40 minutes. The new wall was completed that same day, and the final price was exactly as he quoted, although I forgot to ask him about the Angie's List Discount they offer (my goof!). The look and type of stone used was exactly what my wife and I were looking for, and the wall is nice and solid as well as visually appealing in every regard! The Crew showed up nice and early, as promised, and got right to work. The team were all dedicated, hard-working men who did an absolutely stunning job! They were respectful of the flowers growing immediately beind the wall, and did not damage a single one. We have at least two other projects we need performed over the next couple of years, and Bonanno will be one we call.
Description of Work: We had an 80 foot by less than 1 foot high, by the width of a brick, retaining wall running the length of our side yard. It consisted of cement topped by a row of bricks. It was more then 50 years old and was falling over in three areas, and cracking in several others. Besides that, it was as ugly a wall as you'd ever want to see! We had Bonanno come by in early March to look at it and offer suggestions. He immediately knew what do to, and suggested a stone, and method of replacing it without disturbing the flower plantings behind it. We had tried a couple of other contactors, but neither of them ever bothered to call us back. Based on his Angie's List review, we hired them.

Really loved our interactions with everyone involved with this company. Too bad they are too busy to provide an estimate, but I'm not surprised that they are -- they are extremely professional, friendly, and well-informed.
Description of Work: We originally had Bob and Phil out to provide an estimate for repointing and doing some support work in our basement. I really enjoyed my meeting with them and was impressed with their knowledge and flexibility. We didn't hear back with an estimate for more than a month, during which time we discovered that the real issue we needed to work on was a support on our back porch. Bob came back out to look at the support and provided an estimate for the masonry work, promising that Phil would be in touch to talk through the carpentry end of things. We never heard from him. Again, we really liked them and were excited to have them do the job -- but are glad that they are busy enough to not need our business.

The experience working with Bonanno Construction was great! The mortar on our brick front steps disintegrated, so we had them rebuilt over the summer. Unfortunately that contractor failed to build them to code, so I had to start over interviewing contractors. Robert Bonanno patiently answered all of my questions (sometimes more than once) both during the initial meeting for the estimate, and as the project was completed. Whenever I contacted Mr. Bonanno, a recieved a timely, courteous reply. I was always kept informed of the tasks that were going to be done on a particular day, even while I was out of town, or if weather was going t oforce a change in plans. Since we weren't sure of the materials were wanted to use for the new steps, Mr. Bonanno suggested a few brick / stone yards for us to look at materials, and after listening to us about the look we were trying to achieve, made some suggestions. We followed his suggestions and went with granite cobblestone and treads. The steps came out so beautifully that people in the neighborhood have commented, and I've been stopped by strangers driving by wanting to know who did the work. I subsequently hired Bonanno Construction to do additional work in the house and was just as pleased with the work.
Description of Work: Our front steps needed to be rebuilt in the fall as the previous contractor did not build them to code over the summer. Bonanno Construction explained in detail during our initial meeting what would need to be done in order to rebuild the steps correctly. The incorrectly built steps were removed, footings were poured for the new steps, and the new steps and landing were installed to meet building code. I was also provided with names of other contractors for related work (eg a carpenter to rebuild the threshold, an ironworks contractor for the new railings) and was happy with their work as well.

Emailed for a site visit and estimate. Got a call back a week later and made an appointment. On the appointed day, I took the afternoon off. After waiting a half hour I called and spoke with the same person, who was apparently at a job site and he could not recall the date and time that we had agreed to meet. Sorry to have to leave a negative report. Going by the other reviews, this company does good work. Perhaps this feedback will help to improve the punctuality aspect. Using email rather than phone calls would make it easier to keep track of appointments. I recommend that clients call and confirm on the morning of the date to avoid such mishaps.

I first contacted Tino Bonanno in November 2010 for an estimate. I received 2 prompt email replies, the 2nd of which he requested my phone number. I never received that follow up call. In the spring 2011, I contacted via email again (because of so many positive ratings on Angie's List), and indicated I had not received a follow up for estimate appointment. Tino promptly followed up via email - he requested my phone number, or that I call him to setup time to meet. I called him. He setup appointment for the same week, and provided estimate within 24 hours of that meeting. His prices were fair and detailed. The most comforting aspect was that he required no money up front. The jobs were authorized on May 29th via email, and I called Tino on June 1st to confirm details and get more questions answered about the project. Tino thoroughly answered all questions I had and patiently explained the process of each job. At this point, scheduling was difficult. I was first told he could begin 3rd - last week in July. When August came and I had not heard from him, I called him, then sent email. Received email reply "3rd week in Sept." That was pushed by provider to Oct, and finally, work began and finished in November. With Basement drainage project - after completion, a problem developed with the volume of water being discharged outside my home. I resolved that on my own with outside assistance (working with the town and a plumber). Mr. Bonanno was responsive to my emails after the job was done re: the problem, and was willing to send people back out, but I was able to resolve without his assistance. The problem arose due to circumstances outside Mr. Bonnano's control. (water main leak that saturated my property) Overall impression: I persisted in calling because of all the positive ratings on Angie's list, and the work performed was quick, clean and not disruptive. Mr. Bonanno and his crew were polite, professional, and easy to work with on the job site. They did not disappoint in their workmanship. I hope to see an improvement on response time on future jobs.

I found Bonanno on Angie's list and my entire experience with them did not disappoint. I received a prompt return call when i first reached out to get information. Bobby came to the house within a week and gave me estimates on a few options (ranging from less expensive but shorter-term fixes to the long-term solution.) on how to fix the drainage problem in our driveway/garage area. As new homeowners facing a lot of expenses, we decided to buy ourselves some time and go with the shorter-term fix. Bobby was great to deal with. He's a good communicator and very knowledgeable. He was easy to talk to, straight forward, and the team provided quality work in the time frame he had originally stated. The project was done quickly, cleaned up beautifully and works like a charm so far. I couldn't be more pleased with the experience and DEFINITELY recommend him to others. I will not hesitate to call him again when we do larger-scale projects. I should add that we also inherited a large concrete whale when we bought the house (don't ask!) and when he noticed it the first time he came to the house, we laughed about it together. He offered to break it up and get it out of my way for me. This was a great service! I can't comment on a comparable cost other than to say that I was told by the sellers when I bought the house that they had been given an estimate of $1500 to "fix" the driveway drain. So, Bobby's price of $1200 + whale removal was slightly less and I simply liked and trusted him so much that we went forward without comparable quotes.

I owe Bobby an apologies for this review being posted so late because I work with many contractors through my business and he is by far one if not THE best contractor I have EVER worked with. Bobby brings back the pride of ownership and a true craftsman ideals which I just did not think existed any more. His ideas were fantastic. He THINKS about what he is going to do and how it can be BEST done not how it can be done quickest. From start to finish there is not one item I can be picky about...and I am picky. We had a vision and Bobby made it reality while making some fantastic suggestions along the way. His crew were all very hard workers and very respectful. They cleaned up after themselves every day...I swear the area was cleaner after they left then when they arrived. Bobby himself was on site most of the time to make sure everything was just right, but even when he was not there it was evident that things were in capable hands. We live in a world where everyone makes promises and most of these people just do not keep them. Not only did Bobby keep every promise he went way beyond our expectations with his attention to detail. We never look to hire a contractor based on his estimate but rather on reputation and quality work. Bobbys prices are fair and his work is hard to beat! Thank you Bobby. We would definitely use Bonnano Construction again...in a heart beat.
Description of Work: we had three stone Columns with limestone caps, a stairway with linmestone treads, and a limestone water table, capping some previous stone work.

They have excellent people working for them. I liked their work because everyone was very polite, no one wasted time, and they cleaned up after themselves. I would recommend them to anyone!
Description of Work: They put in some new front stairs, a new walk and they put in a wall in my back yard.
