I requested an estimate for a new patio and replacement of front blue stone steps. He came out promptly and gave me an estimate within several days. He also offered good ideas for the design of the patio and offered to remove an old shrub that was nearby. I have used them in the past.

Contacted Bonanno Construction for an estimate on a patio with retaining wall. Received a response the following day for my address and time. I gave him the address and we both confirmed the time at 11:30am. Waited until 12pm, send him an email seeing where he is. He said he can't find it on the map so he's not coming anymore that day. He could've just emailed me before 11:30am asking for directions if he doesn't know how to get here! But no response until I emailed him! Afterwards, I gave him my cell number as well as directions on how to get to my house and we rescheduled it for 9am the next day. Both confirmed. At 9:30am, not here yet. Called his office and sent him an email. Still not response. 10:30am another email and another phone call. 12pm no response at all!! Very unprofessional! If you are not going to show up or going to be late, at least call!

We found out about Bonnano Construction from our next door neighbor - she bought the house next door and right before closing, the basement wall collapsed on the house. The previous owners had done a DIY basement dig out and didn't do knee walls so there wasn't enough structural support for the home. Bonnano came in and fixed the basement, adding support including rebar, knee walls, parging the floor, adding lally columns, and they also dug out a crawlspace under her kitchen addition to be a full-sized basement area to match the rest of her house. What really impressed us about Bonanno is that their workers were very polite and they always cleaned up at the end of the day. As you might imagine, a project as large as our neighbors' generates a lot of noise and dirt and dust and general mess - Bonanno's crew really minimized this effect for us as next-door neighbors as they always worked within the city's working hours and never started work before those hours or continued after. They were always on-site first thing in the morning and would greet us as we walked by to get to our car to go to work. We started with the stump removal project in early 2012. We'd contacted several landscape contractors in the area and none wanted the job - the lot is a challenging area to get equipment in and out of and there are many houses close by. Even though it was a really tough job, Bonnano got it done - while other contractors had told us the best we could do was to have the stump grinded down slightly above grade and that it wasn't possible to remove completely, Bonnano removed it completely, taking out the entire root system which could have grown back (Ailanthus are weeds!!) and impacted our basement wall in the future. Then Bonnano completed the basement work after that. Their communication throughout the project was excellent - we always knew the status of things - and they handled all of the permitting and subs really well. The job was done on time and on budget. It was a pleasure working with Bobby, John, and crew and we would use them again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: We've used Bonnano Construction for several projects around our home, including digging out / leveling our basement and installing knee walls, parging the basement walls, installing a French drain in the basement, installing basement windows, installing a new sewer line in the basement, installing lally columns for structural support, pouring a new concrete floor, adding a below-grade egress with stairs and a railing and door to the basement. We also used Bonnano construction for the removal of a giant tree stump from h*** - it was a 5' diameter Ailanthus stump from what was a > 80' tall Ailanthus tree.

Two men came to give me a proposal for the installation of a retaining wall, walk repair and the installation of hand rails. The first time there were quite a few living in the walls and crawl space under the house. They did a very thorough job - came back repeatedly until the problem was solved. Last summer a couple of rats were discovered to have made a burrow under the patio. i called Bonnano and once again they completely got rid of them. No incidents since.

Do not use this business but especially for small jobs. This was very frustrating and we never got the masonry work done before the winter set in.
Description of Work: Nothing was done! He took a deposit and gave us a date he would do the work but never came. We had to hound him to get a response. He gave us another date with a reduction in price but never showed up again. This happened at least two more times but with no further reduction in price - he never showed. We again hounded him and finally got our substantial deposit back!

It took 3 messages and 2.5 weeks to get a return call. We made an appointment for an estimate, and the estimator was punctual and professional. However, his solution to my drainage issues seemed to me to be overkill, and very expensive... I live on a steep hill, so there should be no need for a $5K drywell. Even though he promised to email me a formal quote, I never got one. No matter, I decided to go with another masonry company company that proposed a solution I thought would better address the issues. Still, I was disappointed with the lack of responsiveness and follow through.

I called Bonanno Construction after the last snows about a stone wall that had been damaged by a snow plow. They came out to look at the wall the next day, but were not available for that project for quite awhile. They thought they would have a nearby project soon, and it would be much cheaper to wait until the wall repair could be combined with other work. I had other masonry work that needed to be completed in warmer weather. It made sense to wait until all the work could be done at once. In July I called them again. They came out on Friday to assess the project. It turned out that they had a one day opening between projects that Saturday. The next day two masons were onsite for a full day's work. They were focused, pleasant people, who delivered good quality work. I will certainly be using them again, and am already planning next summer's project (replace damaged bricks, repair concrete steps). It can be challenging to schedule smaller projects with them, but if you are flexible they can fit you into their schedule. I find them much more professional than some of the other options and can confidently recommend Bonanno Construction.
Description of Work: repointed portions of brick wall / repaired cracks, repaired stone wall, repointed foundation, filled holes in foundation.
Bobby was a pleasure to work with. He responded promptly, quickly and accurately assessed the situation and made a variety of suggestions and different price points and long versus shorter term solutions. He also agreed to remove additional debris from my driveway for no charge. The drain and pump were installed quickly and was done very nicely. It has worked perfectly, even in severe rainstorms. I would definitely use Bobby's services again and will be calling Bonanno when it is time to do some hardscaping.

About the third week in July, we left a telephone message for Tino asking him when the work would be done. After leaving another message, we got a message from Tino saying they had been tied up but would get to it soon. In August we tried unsuccessfully to find out from Tino when the work would be done. On September 15, 2013, having had no contact, we sent Bonanno Construction an email terminating our agreement and saying we no longer wanted to retain the services of Bonanno Construction.
Description of Work: On April 30, 2013, Tino Bonanno came to our house to give an estimate on repointing our brick walkway and removing a small concrete apron at the end of the walkway and installing a new one. He said that he would provide 2 workers for a day and they would do the half of the walk nearest our stairs and, if there was time left in the day, we could direct the two workers to do areas on the other half of the walkway. He gave a bid of $1000 and said he would be able to do the work in mid-July. We gave him the $250 discount coupon and he said he would look into taking that into account.

Project went better than we could have imagined. Bobby and his crew showed up on the agreed upon day to start demolition of old concrete pool deck. The demolition was done without the use of a bobcat (used jack hammers). The crew took great care to protect our lawn (which they had to drive over every day of the project), and the pool (vinyl liner). Each day, the crew cleaned the site before leaving. The work was completed on-time (which is truly amazing considering that the crew encountered several large rocks (1 more than 5 ft in circumference) that had to be drilled, split and removed. The deck looks stunning! We would definitely hire Bobby and his crew again. The crew was extremely professional and courteous. Bobby is a pleasure to deal with. For us, it was his ability to look at our existing layout and offer design ideas (during the quotation and construction) that really made him stand out from the other contractors we talked to.
Description of Work: Replaced old concrete pool deck (inground 18X36 pool) with pavers and installed a stone wall between pool deck and smaller (lower) wooden deck). Also added a beautiful granite entryway (2 steps up from entry gate).

Great! Tino gave a frank and honest assessment of the situation. I learned a lot about what the prior owners did to waterproof and finish the basement. The biggest lesson, honestly, was that they never should have used any waterproof coast on it whatsoever. The old fieldstone foundation needs to breathe and the chemical coating stopped that from happening. He gave a written estimate on touching up the area of the foundation where the water is pushing sand inside and that's it. In his opinion (aside from an ongoing water leak worsened by a prior mason) nothing can or should be done.

bob bonanno came to my house and scoped the job. he has a lot of experience and offers suggestions, including both what to do and what not to do. permits were obtained and proper inspections were carried out. foundation work like this is messy but the crew did a good job cleaning up at the end of every stage of the process - in fact, they cleaned up at the end of every single day of the job (roughly 2 wks). finding people who have the know-how and experience working on stone foundations is difficult - unlike standard poured or block foundations, for example, it can be hard to find info on the web about this topic. bob & crew definitely know how to handle this. i've owned two old new england houses with various stone foundation "issues" and fretted about how to handle them - i only wish i had hooked up with bob sooner. i could have had some of the sub-projects (window replacement, repair of the framing) done by other contractors. bob handled everything smoothly, and i'm glad i was spared the extra hassle. you can't tell that the set of stairs that they removed and replaced were every touched - if anything, they feel more solid than before. everyone on the crew i met at the site seemed pleasant and professional. in the end, job came in slightly under their estimated price. my impression: they are honest and fair - not cheap, but they do a good job. this is a family-style business; bob and his son were at the job site several times during the project. in the end, they made sure i was satisfied with everything before final payment.
Description of Work: we have a ~130 year-old house with stacked stone foundation. bonanno construction restored the foundation from the interior side. they stripped out loose mortar, re-mortarted all joints, also did spot repointing of brick layer of the foundation. applied final topcoat of masonry paint/cement/sealer (thoroseal), which makes the final result much more appealing cosmetically. they also replaced some old brick structural supports that were failing. some existing brick columns were removed. concrete floor was cut. new footings were installed with steel re-bar. steel/concrete (lally) columns were installed. they took down an existing wooden staircase to gain complete access to stone foundation walls, then restored it afterwards. they replaced an old basement window with a nice new vinyl anderson window. they also re-enforced multiple joints in the (wood) framing, using metal brackets where joists and beams intersected in half-lap joints to prevent any future sagging of joists and splitting.

After interviewing several contrators I hired Tino Bonanno to do the job by the end of 2011. His price was right, his reputation on this list was excellent, and I felt a good rapport with him. The one point I made to Tino several time before the job started was I didn't want my wall to look like walls around my neighborhood which had excess cement between stones and cement dripping down over stones below them. Tino said this would never happen to a wall he built. In November, after paying him $3,500 in advance, he started the work. The day the job began, Tino told me he would not be able to supervise the job himself because, at the last minute, a much larger job had come up. He said he was leaving me in good hands, I was to call his cell if I had any questions, and he would check in every evening. Okay, looking back it was my mistake for not requiring the work be supervised by Tino, since I had hired Tino. The wall seem to go up quickly and beautifully with minimal disruption or mess and Tino did show up each evening. Then one late morning I was looking out the window and I noticed that one of the workers had built the wall to the agreed height of the whole wall including the blue stone cap. The agreed height was to meet the height of an existing brick wall on the street side of the house. I called Tino immediately and he responded by coming to the site quickly. He then promised me there would be no problem bringing down the wall to the height that the blue stone cap would meet the brick wall's height. By the end of that day the stonewall and it's blue stone cap met the height of the brick wall, but their were several areas between the cap and the stones where there was clearly too much cement used to patch in the cap after the fact. I pointed this out to Tino who said the areas of excess cement could be fixed and he would do it in the spring. I then made mistake number 2, and paid Tino $5,500 which made the work on the wall paid in full. Yes, I know, bye, bye leverage. I called Tino in the spring (2012) and he said he would be over to repair the wall, as soon as possible. Weeks went by and I started my endless calls to his cell and the Bonanno Office leaving messages for Tino. I got the message by the fall that Tino had blown me off and I was left with a wall not dissimilar to the walls I pointed out to Tino as unacceptable.
Description of Work: The construction of a 3 +/- foot high stonewall with blue stone cap that is 100 +/- long. It would replace a badly deteriorating landscape timber wall.
