If Angie's List provides a rating above A, Bonanno Construction would receive it from me! I called a handful of companies about my foundation problem and Bobbie was very quick to return my call. He came out a day or two later on Saturday afternoon to talk to me. I showed him my basement and the outside. He suggested the service performed above. He showed me pictures of his work from his phone and was very honest about his approach. I appreciated his honesty and philosophy. He was interested in addressing the problem by fixing the source. That would cost more money and fixing the holes from the inside, but it would also repair the damage instead of allowing moisture to attack the next weakest point in the cracks. Of course everyone would love to spend the least amount of money as possible, but foundation repair is not something people should skim on if they can afford a solution that prevents the problems from happening further. We could have had his workers go the full 5-6 feet down to the basement level, but that would double the price. Plus, as the work showed, the cement was able to find its way through the cracks just fine at 2.5 feet. After the estimate, I was on vacation for a while. When I returned, I called Bobby and asked him when he could come out. We picked a date that would work for the both of us. He wanted me to be home so I could see the work being done. Since I can work at home, it was not a big deal. During the 2 weeks before the scheduled date, I received calls asking if I wanted to have the job done earlier due to cancellations. Unfortunately, I could not take advantage of those dates, but I really appreciated the opportunities. Two days before the scheduled date, I received another one of these calls asking if the next day would be possible. I agreed and the guys showed up at 7am. I could hear them outside, but slept until much later. When I got up, I went outside to see how it was going. most of the trench was dug out. They even did it in a way so a fence didn't have to be unearthed and the tree was fine with roots intact! Bobby was not there, but the guys were really professional and courteous. One thing that surprised me was the PVC pipe mentioned above. Bobby and I never discussed doing anything with the pipe. He had the guys do the work anyway because that was the best possible outcome for that area of the house. Maybe I shouldn't mention that he didn't ask for anything more than the agreed upon price as I don't want to give anyone the impression that he is going to go beyond the call of duty for every customer, but I was completely blown away. When the guys were finished outside, we went into the basement. We could see the cracks the cement came through. The guys sealed it up on the inside and patched a hole that probably allowed mice to get into the house. Since the date of service, we have had 1 flash flood. It probably wasn't enough to cause it to flood like in the old days, but that side of the basement was dry. The true test will be when everyone else in the neighborhood is flooding and I'm not. Originally I thought the only water coming in was on the driveway side of the house because I would always see water flow down to the other side. As I stated, during the flash flood there was no moisture on that side of the house. Sadly the other side of the house had a lot of water coming in, probably because the flash flood dumped water on very saturated soil on the other side of the house where I now have a well-watered garden. I had Bobby come back out and we discussed the next step. We could do a repeat of the work here, but that would include rebuilding a sidewalk. We decided to go for a different, cheaper temporary solution so the proper solution can be implemented in 1-2 years as I have other important house repairs to throw money at. They should be coming back next week. I'll write a separate review when that is done. Two other things. 1) Someone else who came out suggested installing a sump pump in the basement, but I didn't feel like that addressed the problem. Had I gone with that, the sump pump's exit point would've put the moisture back in the ground near the problem and it would not have addressed the water coming in from the other side of the house. 2) I asked the company who proposed the sump pump solution for an estimate for what Bobby wanted to do. Their estimate was $5000. This made me feel like any figure in the $5000 range was a good price. As we all know, it is difficult to find good, honest companies that look out for their customers. I have dealt with plenty of bad ones over the years. I strongly recommend Bonanno Construction as my experience has been nothing less than stellar from start to finish. If I didn't feel that way, they wouldn't have gotten a call for a repeat customer.
Description of Work: The guys came out and dug a trench 2.5 feet deep along the driveway side of the house. They cleaned out the area around the foundation before blocking it all with cement board. Once that was all set, hydraulic cement was poured in to fill everything in. The cement went through the cracks and into the basement. A small layer of cement was placed on the wall in the basement as well. Cement was also applied to a hole in the foundation that went outside. Additionally, part of the house's cement foundation sitting on top of the stone foundation was eroding. That was fixed. The earth between the driveway wall and newly extended foundation was put back so I could plant new things on the side of the house. Finally, I had a gutter pipe from the roof that went down to the patio near the problem area. The water had no place to go but the ground. They added a PVC pipe to the end of that gutter and ran it through the trench before pouring the cement. The pipe was connected to the other pipes that drain into the driveway, thus providing a place for the water to go (ie. the street).

Bob came out to meet with me while I was negotiating the Purchase and Sale of my home to give me an estimate. He met with me again before doing the work. I had several phone converstations with him and he promptly returned any messages. Bob came on the day as promised, on time, and with a big crew who did an amazing job in a very short amount of time which meant less impact for us and the neighbors. He explained everything and there were no surprises. He made aesthetic suggestions that we agreed to and it really makes a difference in the curb appeal of our our home.

Tino Bonanno responded to my call promptly. He came over to the property within the next couple of days, and we discussed the alternatives. He made many good suggestions, and we agreed on what would be done. I felt he was very honest and didn't encourage me to do unnecessary work. We had a couple of other discussions via email and phone, and we met once more prior to the start of the job. On the agreed-upon day, Tino showed up with his crew. Two days later, the job was done - and it was beautiful! Conveniently, there was a huge downpour the next weekend, and lo and behold, the drainage worked perfectly, and the basement was dry. My only complaint about Bonnano construction - and it is a minor one - is that the estimate of the work to be done was somewhat vague and was contained in the text of an email. I expected a more precise estimate in a pdf file, so that there would be no confusion as to what we agreed would be done. It turns out that wasn't necessary, as Tino did an excellent job, but it might not be a bad idea to spell things out more precisely.
Description of Work: The sidewalk alongside our house collected water during rainstorms and flooded the basement. Bonanno Construction tore up the sidewalk, built a drainage ditch covered with stone, and installed a new brick sidewalk that directs the water away from the house and towards the drainage ditch.

We got an estimate in early March and the contractor abided by the price with no change now. Unlike all the other masons Bonanno matched the brick and the mortar with the old brick so that its hard to tell where the patches are. Bonanno also patched two cement sills, One of them with a care a foot away from the wall without damaging the car or interfering with the quality of the patch!. For this job Bonanno took no deposit and when we asked him to come back and patch additional brickwork for cosmetic reasons his employers returned and did the job under my personal supervision doing a superior job. I could not be too pleased with this job and would use this contractor again without hesitation.
Description of Work: The mason patched the brick on the lower level of the driveway and also repaired two concrete slabs in the back and the side of the building by patching them.

This was a job well done. We couldn't be happier. Tino came to visit a couple of times and was knowledgeable, patient, and courteous. He explained the options, made us comfortable, gave an estimate, and was ready for us when we made up our minds. Tino and his crew showed up on time, protected our yard and patio, cleared brush, excavated carefully and quickly in a tight space, and had the job finished long before my expectations. I worked at home and hardly noticed that there was a crew of around 10 men outside. The workers and masons were talented and courteous: not smoking or swearing and they cleaned up everything so that I could hardly tell anyone had been there -- except that we now had our awesome new stone walls! The group took pride in their work and worked as a team with a common goal - our satisfaction. Extras that make Bonanno Construction a company we would hire again: they reused materials we had on site (eco-friendly), they offered to remove some junk from our yard, and patch some holes in other walls that were falling down. No charge.

My initial call with the owner was a good one: we talked in detail about what might need to be done with my chimney and we scheduled that he would come out to inspect it the next day (a Friday) and that he would call me that night. He didn't come on Friday and when I called him, he said there was a mix up and that he would come out the next Monday and call me that night. No one showed up on Monday and there was no call Monday night. I left vmail that Tuesday night and spoke to his wife directly on Wednesday late afternoon. She said he was out giving some estimates and that he would call me that night. No call. I gave up.

Response from Bonanno Construction Inc
My husband called the homeowner immediately after receiving the initial message and discussed the work that needed to be done. He arranged to go by and there WAS a mix up and he didn't get by as scheduled (he was stuck at a jobsite). He did go by the following week as promised and look at the chimney that needed repair. Since he did not meet with the owner, he planned to email or call her and discuss his thoughts. Looking back through my message planner, I have noted that he did call the homeowner. After reading this review, I see that didn't happen and it was an oversight. While returning calls and emails he must have checked it off as accomplished and it wasn't. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused the homeowner and please know that this does not regularly happen and it is not our normal business practice to knowingly "blow off" our clients. We welcome all feedback. Thank you and again please accept our appologies. Karen Bonanno 781-933-7500

We cannot say enough about Bobby and his entire team. We initially called and left a message for him on a Saturday and received a prompt call back. We were offered an immediate quote if we took and emailed pictures, but this was unnecessary as we were not in a hurry so we scheduled an in person estimate for a Saturday at a convenient time for us. Bobby spent more time than other estimates we got and invested more energy into understanding our situation and reviewing all of the possible options, helping us arrive at a plan that made the most sense for our family. He provided a written estimate on the spot as well as a reference and was willing to email a copy of the written estimate as well. He was thoughtful and respectful and appeared to have our best interest in mind. Upon deciding to move forward with the work we were able to pick the specific day we wanted the work to be done (on a Saturday so we did not have to miss work) and the work occurred that day. I spent an additional twenty minutes over two conversations with Bobby where I was able to ask questions and make sure I understood the process. He never appeared to be too busy to answer any questions. During the day of the work he and his team arrived exactly on time, at 7:30 am and worked tirelessly until they completed the job in the late afternoon. I was encouraged to view the work as it occurred and did not have to worry about asking questions. The repair on the exterior concrete and the cabinet removal were additional matters above and beyond the estimate but the team did not hesitate to complete either for no extra charge. The work was completed in 8 hours and looks amazing. We have added value to our home, increased the soundness of its structure and greatly improved its look and usability. They did a great job cleaning up and everything was left cleaner than it had started. Every member of the team was courteous and friendly. We absolutely made the correct decision to go with Bonnano and have this work completed when we did.
Description of Work: The team chipped and cleaned the stone and brick walls of our entire 100-year-old foundation, repointed all of the stones and bricks as needed and sealed all four walls, floor to ceiling with a thoroseal coating. In addition, they removed an old unwanted wooden cabinet that we were not able to remove ourselves and repaired/ reinforced the concrete edging that runs along one exterior wall of the house as it was cracked and allowing water to flow into the ground near our foundation.

Excellent, professional organization. Showed up promptly with a clean hard working crew. Started right away and finished on time. Would highly recommend this company(and do). Add me to the ever-growing list of Bonanno fans. I first called Bobby last Fall for an estimate to replace my front steps. He was fully booked (good sign) so offerred a discount if we could wait until Spring. When Spring came, I asked if he could also do something about the rain water flooding into my basement through my bulkhead windows. He showed up a week later with an excavator and a crew of about 6 guys. In one day they pulled out all of the shrubs lining my house, dug a trench and output drain, laid perforated drainage pipes and put the ground back together. We had a torrential downpour a few days later, but my basement stayed bone dry. I was really impressed when Bobby called me after the storm to make sure everything worked as planned. It was the best money I'd spent in a long time. I was only sorry I didn't do it sooner. A few weeks later, Bobby and crew returned to do my stairs and walkway. His original quote was for replacing the walkway and stairs in their original footprint but I had decided to widen the stairs and add stone pillars as part of an entryway addition. Bobby was very fair with the price for the additional work. He and his team completed the demolition in one day and had everything done by the end of the second day. Bobby was fantastic to work with and made good suggestions about design and materials. He recommended two great vendors who we ended up using - Cariono Construction for the carpentry and IMG Painting for exterior painting. I was making multiple updates to my house at the same time, with a tight timeframe to get it all done before a scheduled home appraisal. Bobby worked with the carpenter and painter to juggle and coordinate schedules to meet my deadline. The final product was even better than I had imagined and had a huge impact on my curb appeal. We've received many compliments and I've already recommended Bonanno to a few people. I plan to use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Two jobs: (1) Installed complete exterior drainage system around the perimeter of my house to divert rain water that was entering the basement through the bulkhead windows. This involved removal of all shrubs lining the exterior of the house and tying in existing gutter downspouts to new underground system. (2) Demolished existing brick front stairs and flagstone walkway, replaced with paver walkway and stacked stone stairs with bluestone treads plus stacked stone pillars to support newly added entryway peak.

We had a great experience. After a few calls to get going, Bob did everything he said he would do at the price and timeline he quoted. When the pavers were installed, the color really didn't look like the samples we had seen. Bob supported us with the vendor and brought his team back on Mother's Day morning to re-do the walkway. The workers were always respectful, hard-working and neat about the work site. Bonanno's recommendation of Carino Construction for repairs and Santini Bros. Iron Works for the handrail are really appreciated. High quality work at good prices. Santini Bros. met a tight deadline request - a 4-day turn-around. We've had good luck with Angie's List every time we've used the service. Thanks!
Description of Work: Bonanno demolished our old front brick stairs and walkway and replaced with stack stone, pavers and blue stone. They collaborated with us on the design and Bob Bonanno recommended two additional vendors to do some small repairs to our clapboards and install a iron handrail. Water drains were buried.

I contacted Bob to repair two walls in my basement. Karen got in touch with me right away and let me know that they were still doing outside jobs and could get to mine first thing when the weather changed and outside work was no longer feasible. As promised, as soon as the weather got cold and snow came we scheduled Bob and his team to come the following week. Bob showed up early in the morning (7:45am) with what seemed like 6 guys and they set to work cleaning the walls. When I came home that evening they were gone and I had two beautiful, sealed walls. The floors were clean and they even dug up some of the roots that were growing in my french drain at the base of the walls. Overall it was a great experience and I will use them again on the final wall in the basement (which will also require some repair work).
Description of Work: Bob and his team cleaned two basement walls - chipped and brushed away the crumbling (original) mortar between the stones and washed it out. They then coated the walls with new concrete sealing it. When I came home my basement floor was clean (no dust) and I had a wall that was like new!

We contacted Bob about repairing our front steps. He asked us to email some pictures of our steps and replied promptly that he could repair them but our best solution would be a complete replacement. The steps were sinking into the ground. Bob answered all questions I had and we decided on a complete replacement. Bob and his crew arrived on the appointment date and completed the job in one day. As they demolished the old steps they showed me the bad condition they were underneath. Bob and his crew did excellent work and cleaned up after finishing. The new stairs look great.

we had a crooked and cracked concrete slab as a walkway, and a not so great existing job of cobbles around our gardens. Bobby was quick to respond when I contacted him, I sent in a picture of the front walk/gardens and he quickly gave me an estimate for the work to be done. The estimate was similar to the estimate of another company we had previously worked with, but Bobby did offer me more of a deal if I waited till October, and Bobby was more professional and more responsive, and easy to reach, and offered good professional suggestions. I'm happy we went with Bobby--the results of our front walk/gardens are fantastic--the nice pavers and cobbles all go really well together and make the front of our house more complete and neater, and he made the whole process easy.

During a home purchase the home inspector reported out several masonry issues including a retaining wall, foundation crack and a few other smaller items. I emailed Bobby and several other contractors and Bobby was the first to respond. I gave him the information and some detailed photos. Bobby gave me a lot of information about the type of work that needed to be done and how the cost plays into it. I wasn't surprised by his diagnosis about the retaining wall, but it confirmed for me that it was a project that was bigger than I would want to handle especially since it would also involve my new neighbor. I didn't use his services because I didn't go forward with the deal, but I found him to be professional, responsive, and he freely gave more time than he needed to. I also felt he was being honest. When I do make a home purchase, I would call him if I have a need.

We can't say enough about Bob Bonanno. From our first meeting with Bob we knew that we had found the person who we would hire to replace our steps. Bob was so courteous and knowledgeable that the decision to hire him was easy. He gave is a very fair quote and the overall experience was excellent. We highly recommend Bonanno Construction for any masonry project!
Description of Work: We needed to replace crumbling brick steps in the front of our house. We were interested in updating the look and replacing the steps with stone. Bob came out and took a look at our steps and mentioned that we may have some water damage to our sill (we had some moss growing on the bricks closest to the house) and that we would have to consider this before we decided to go forward with the project. He mentioned that a carpenter may find a little damage or a significant amount of damage that would add cost to the overall project. We really appreciated how upfront Bob was with this observation - it was nothing I thought about before in connection with replacing the steps. We went forward with the project - Bob and his team came out and torn down our existing steps so a carpenter could take a look at the sill (we did have some damage and had the sill replaced). A few days after the sill was replaced, Bob and his team returned to build our beautiful front steps. We couldn't be happier with the result. The impact of this change on the curb appeal of our house is dramatic.

I spoke with his wife (?) - I think it was a home phone b/c I heard kids in the background. She said that he was out and that the best thing for me to do is to take a picture of the existing bulkhead door and email it to him. He will look at it and get back to me with next steps. I took four pictures, uploaded them and emailed them the same day. He never responded. Wasted my time, unfortunately.
Description of Work: We need a bulkhead door replaced.

Response from Bonanno Construction Inc
We received the pics same day and responded SAME DAY...actually only 4 hours after receiving it. The customer needed a carpenter not a mason and we provided her with a name and number of the carpenter we use. We have since spoken to the customer and she is looking for the email in her spam folder!!! She has also said that she would be removing the negative report. Karen Bonanno (the wife in question)
