I would not recommend this company to anyone. They are rude, unprofessional and will lie through their teeth to make themselves look good.
Description of Work: Hired Addarios to convert my home from oil to gas. The owner came to my home and gave the estimate and was seemed very nice as well as professional. The first day they were to come, they were almost 2.5 hours late. The response I reveived when calling to ask was "this isn't Mcdonald's where they punch in and punch out, just because they aren't there doesn't mean they arent working on your job. They are getting supplies." However when they came to my home, they asked to use my hose, wet vac, nails, extension cord among other things. They told me the job would take 3 days tops. Took 5 and they failed the inspection from the city as well as received a fine for not pulling the permit for the water heater. The first time the system started my radiators bgan to s*** water everywhere.

Demo of old equipment took one day, installation of the tile floor and threshold took one day, and installation of the units and piping took four days. An additional two partial days were needed to make some system refinements and additions required by the inspector. The installers (Alan and John) did a great job of arranging the new furnace over the new water heater, providing access to all valves and extra space in the closet. Workmen arrived about 9:00 am each day and worked well and were polite and communicative about what they were doing. Problem areas: The contract that I signed with Steve required 40% down, 40% upon start of work, and 20% upon completion of work, but prior to inspection. As it happened, the inspector was available on the last day and indicated that there was more work needed so I withheld the final 20%. Addario's didn't like this, but backed off until the additional work was completed. (Never agree to a contract that requires final payment prior to inspection.) I think work such as this is very much dependent upon the workers. Alan was a newly hired Journeyman (only worked there 6 weeks) and did a great job, but other workmen might perform differently. After making the sale, he owner, Steve, never reappeared to view or guide the work, and my communications with the office were through Nicole and the workmen. Addario's does provide comprehensive contractor services and did the tile floor, electrical, and furnace work under one contract. They also assisted in filing paperwork for government rebates on fuel efficient devices and for tax credits.
Description of Work: My experience with Addario's was fair to good. Steve (the owner) provided a comprehensive estimate of the work to be done, including equipment to be used. In my case, I wanted a crowded utility closet with a decaying plywood floor replaced with a tile floor and new compact furnace and water heater. Prime concern was to allow access to all components once installed. I think the price quoted for this work may have been high, but I did not seek competitive bids since I was in a hurry. Also, Addario's promised to fill out paperwork for government rebates on fuel efficient devices and for tax credits, thereby reducing the cost of the work by $2,000.

This report is ONLY for the year 2010. Subsequent reports will be made for 2011 and later. Unfortunately, my experience was not very good. They charged me a total of $2200 for the work requested above. They claim that the breakdown was approximately 1600 for the water heater (installed) and about $600 for the water filtration plant. My memory was that the water heater was $1200 (still FAR too expensive) and the filtration plant was $1000. The water heater has worked flawlessly since being installed, and I have no complaint or issue--the job was professionally done, though for some reason, it wasn't until something like five or six months later, that I got phone calls from them insisting that they had to have the Plumbing Inspector in to certify that it was done properly. This should have been done at the time of the job, not months afterward! The water filtration plant, recommended by Addarios turned out to be a disaster. It was a unit recommended for a single-family home, and, consequently, the filters, which should have lasted at least six months were clogging and choking off the water supply after only a few weeks. I'll not get into the debacle involving the original installation missing bypass valves for shutting off the filters to change them without cutting off the water supply to the building.... It has taken the better part of a year of phone calls, emails and so on to get them to not only understand that, according to the manufacturer's website, the filtration plant they installed was for a small single-family home--considerable time and effort on my part to research this. They finally DID agree to replace the unit with a larger model, but not the industrial grade unit they should have put in in the first place and which I thought I was getting.. If the larger model does the trick, great. We'll call it a day and close this matter. If not, then we will continue to have a water filtration system that has cost me many hundreds of dollars and has never worked since it was installed. I'll probably end up installing the proper system myself at my own expense--and Addarios will have lost a loyal customer of many years. It is unfortunate. I know they mean well, and I feel that the owner, Steve Addario is a decent and honorable gentleman, but I just don't feel that they have been very fair or reasonable with me--there was even a fiasco where I was overcharged because they had "forgotten" that I was a "preferred customer" in late 2009.... ...and even to this day, especially after reading what Addario's charged other customers to replace water heaters, I have to wonder why I was charged nearly (or more than) twice as much. I did research some competitive models of the heater they provided me--only to find that I had paid $1200 to 1600 (depending on who you believe) for what I could have gotten from Home Depot or Lowes for about $500 to $600.... I hope this report benefits someone--and helps Addario's to dispel what appears to be a growing record of overcharging their customers....sometimes to an egregious extent.

Water heater installation was good. Within 1 year it started to leak. They came out promptly and replaced it using the manufacturer's warranty. They have also checked our boiler and made a minor repair. Their work is good and professional. However, their costs are very expensive and they recommend expensive solutions, repeatedly phoning to get additional business.

Everyone in the company was pleasant and considerate. I think it was a difficult diagnostic problem which they were unable to fix. It ended up being costly for us.
Description of Work: Our gas boiler kept "locking out" in an irregular pattern. The repair person was very nice, and honest, but was not familiar with the boiler. He called the boiler company, Weil McLain for technical support, which was not particularly helpful to him. He replaced two parts, and it still kept locking out. He was not able to solve the problem, which was not straightforward.

We wanted to put in a new laundry room and bathroom and because we had used Addarios in the past (a weekend emergency - a pipe burst) and felt their work was acceptable so we hired them for this job. This was by far the biggest contractor nightmare EVER and the worst mistake we have ever made. I knew right away when the plumbers who came out started putting the rough plumbing on an outside wall and my husband, who knows a thing or two about plumbing, asked them specifically why they were doing that considering it is not to code. They said "they do this all the time" and to trust them - right. So, of course, the laundry room didn't past inspection and they had to spend 2 days redoing the entire job. Then when we were working out payment, they expected us to pay them for those 2 extra days even though we had sign THEIR contract that specifically stated that we were paying them the agreed upon amount regardless of the time it took to complete. We argued with them for a week about this until finally I called the licensing board to ask how to handle it and they told me they were required by law to bring work they did up to code without being paid anything additional for it. Their tune changed significantly when we came back to them with that and we did not pay an additional money, but Steve Addario (owner) tried VERY hard to dupe us into paying about $2000 extra - ridiculous. Now onto the nightmare bathroom. They basically didn't do a single thing to code and had to redo the majority of their work there as well. We had the electrical inspector out to look at some electrical work (separate job) and he was so horrified by what he had seen (this was the electrical inspector, so you know it was bad if he could see it was) and immediately sent the building inspector out to look at the terrible work they were doing. They cut through beams and joists making our house structurally unsound which we then had to repair at our own cost. Because the building inspector saw what a terrible job they were doing, he allowed us to close our permit with them and hire someone else. Thank Goodness. I cannot stress this enough. Hiring this company will end badly. The work we received was beyond terrible and their prices for that terrible work were outrageous. Don't let this nightmare happen to you!

Despite being told by the manufacturer that even with replacement switches, our church furnace (installed in 1983 and responsible for heating a a large stone building built in 1875), it could not be salvaged, Addarios kept at it until the owner and his brother figured out another approach. On New Year's eve day, they finally got the old furnace cranking again. They had done some work successfully earlier in the fall on the downstairs heating system, so we knew they were dedicated to getting the job done right. They were patient and courteous as always. We will definitely use them when it comes time to replace the furnace. I would recommend them for any plumbing or heating job.

Our church in Roxbury, Ma. had no heat in the downstairs area for over a year. The church was built in 1837 and the boiler/furnace had been fixed over the years, but never a complete overhaul. Finally the system died. Addarios came in, assessed the problem, gave us a price, ordered the parts, and completed the job in one day despite running into obstacles (the boiler room is not very accessible and there's very little light to work with.) The plumbers met the challenges and assured us they'd get us heat by the end of the day ... and they did!

My experience with this company was overall positive. The work they did was professional. The servicemen were friendly and informative. Everything was well cleaned up afterwards. The only complaint I have is that their dispatcher was not always responsive in communicating the appointment time. I had to call several times myself to get the times. The scheduled time was accurate, and the company was flexible in agreeing to make me the last appointment of the day.

A two day job turned out to go on for two and a half weeks. When I called I was told that they could start in two days. They did not show up for a week. They consistently lied about when materials they needed would be available for installation, especially the chimney liner. They came as scheduled and complete the work promptly after trying to sell me some extra parts, which I argued was to be covered by my Home Depot contract. The discussion was brief since I had read my contract in details. They nevertheless had to replace a safety valve at my cost ($65.00), which I thought was fair. I had to keep calling Addario to get them to schedule the plumbing inspector's visit but it finally worked out.

I purchased my water heater over the phone on the morning of April 4th and was told that I would receive a call from the installer, Addario's, by that afternoon. I did not receive the call and followed up on with 800 number provided on my order. I was told I would have a call the next morning between 7:00 am - 8:00 am from Addario's. I made myself available, again no call. I followed up and was told my appointment would be between 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm Saturday, the 5th. At 5:30 pm I had heard from no one. I started calling Addario's only to receive an answering service. No calls were ever returned from Addario's. I then reached out to the Watertown store, listed on my order, and the Manager there. Had it not been for your store manager I'm certain that I would have heard from no one on Saturday and stood up. Finally at 6:45 pm someone from Addario's did show with my water heater. The man said it "was all the home improvement store's fault and I'm lucky that he's there at all.".

Awful. The installation went fairly well. They were a half hour late. But the worst part came after we discovered that they had messed up the hot water in our neighbor's kitchen. We called the company immediately and got their answering service. Someone calls back and tries to talk me through checking the various valves and faucets in our basement. No go. He says he's going to call the guys that did the installation. I get my husband on the phone with them and they try to talk him through the same faucet/valve check. When it still doesn't work they say they'll send someone the next morning- first thing. They don't come at all. They give us the run around all day. Then say they'll call us first thing the next morning. No call. When my husband finally gets a hold of someone they say they'll be there between 12:00 and 4:00 (after claiming they called). It's 4:30 now and they still aren't here- now they say 5:00 to 6:30. The company is completely unresponsive and unprofessional.

We had a bad experience with Addario's, a contractor hired by Sears to install a Sears water heater for us -- so bad that we cancelled the order with Sears. Addario's missed their initial delivery dates, brought the wrong product to our home, and tried to make us pay an excessive amount for extra work that they erroneously said was required by code.
Description of Work: Addario's was subcontracted by Sears to install an electric water heater that we purchased from Sears. Following is a description of problems with Addario's that led us to cancel the order with Sears and use another supplier. 1. Addario did not appear on the job on the promised day. They gave a 12-4 PM window for when they would arrive. At 3:30 I called them and was told that they would be delayed until at least 5-6 PM. We agreed to defer installation to the next day. 2. When the installers arrived the next day they brought a GAS-fired heater vs. the electric heater that was ordered. They offered to return to Sears to pick up the correct (electric) heater. They called later to say that the correct heater was out of stock. 3. In the meantime they erroneously told me that codes required that a new power switch be installed in the room with the heater - at a cost of $310 (for 1 hour's work plus parts) and that they had to install the switch as part of the project.

Would never use this company again. We signed the contract in September and did not have heat until late November, 4 weeks after stated timeframe. They were difficult to reach and argumentative. Work, as far as we know, was okay. When installing chimney liner, sub-contractor put hole in outside wall of chimney trying to fit a liner that was too big down the flue. Took 6 months before we reached agreement on how to resolve issue. During this time, they did not respond to our messages for months only to send us e-mails that threatened legal action. As I stated previously, I would NEVER contract with them again and am sincerely glad that I will not have to deal with them any more.

PLUMBER WAS SUPPOSED TO CALL 1/2 HOUR BEFORE THEY ARRIVED, BUT NEVER DID. THEY CALLED WHEN IN FRONT OF MY CONDO AND SAID THEY WERE GOING TO LEAVE IF THEY HAD TO WAIT. I CALLED THEIR SUPERVISOR AND HE MADE THEM WAIT (15 MINS). TWO PLUMBERS CHARGED ME EXTRA ($125 PLUS $15 FOR CITY OF BOSTON "INSPECTION" ON TOP OF THE $219 INSTALL FEE) EXTRA CHARGES COVERED: 1. CARRYING THE 30 GAL (VERY SMALL) WATER HEATER TO MY CONDO ON THE THIRD FLOOR; 2. THEY HAD TO REMOVE THE DOOR AND MOLDING OFF MY CLOSET TO MAKE WATER HEATER FIT. (NOTE, THEY WOULD NOT PUT DOOR AND MOLDING BACK UP.) 4. CITY OF BOSTON INSPECTION CERTIFICATE. WHAT EXACTLY WAS I PURCHASING WITH A "BASIC INSTALL"? I FEEL I WAS MISLEAD AND MISTREATED (I'M NOT HANDY AND CAN'T PUT THE DOOR AND MOLDING BACK UP). I CALLED THE HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE TO COMPLAIN AND THEY REFUNDED THE ADDITIONAL $125 INSTALL FEE. "BASIC INSTALL", WHAT DOES THAT INCLUDE?. I WAS NOT TOLD OR GIVEN ANYTHING IN WRITING. GET THIS, THE WATER HEATER ONLY COST $159, BUT
