Sunday morning call to the main number was forwarded to the owner, Joe Addario, who could not have been more helpful. He arranged for a technician to come to the house by 1pm monday (no emergency service required since temperatures were warm enough). Identified and remedied the problem within an hour. Excellent service. I highly recommend this company.

Addario's was the first company to schedule an appointment, so we were hopeful that they would be able to fix it quickly, since it was a very warm week. They told us they would come between 11 - 2 but called at 7:30am to say they would come at 8. We were not able to make that time, so we were told they would come at noon. At 1:30, we called the dispatch to see where they were, and we were told they would be there in 20 minutes. They showed up about an hour later. So far, not so great. The guys who came out were very kind and explained things to us well, saying we needed to replace the TXV. When asked informally how much that might cost, they told me around $500. They then said they had to call in for the part availability and sat in their truck for around an hour. When they came back, the said the part wouldn't come in until the following week and the repair would cost $1575. That is on top of the $89 they charged to show up and the $293 they charged for a "diagnostic" (ie the cost of generating the quote. They also said they would throw in a valve repair "for free." They also told us to call the company to try to negotiate that price down by 5%, which struck me as a strange business practice. We called the next day to ask questions about the quote (there was no information about the cost of labor/hour or the price of parts, just a black box quote). We were told a specific person would have to call us back, but he never did (now 4 days later). We were stuck with an almost $400 charge to generate a quote and no follow-up service. We ended up having another company come out to give a second opinion and they fixed it in 20 minutes for $243 total, no "diagnostic" fee or fee for showing up. I would be very wary of Addario's hidden pricing and lack of responsiveness. The experience left of feeling very cheated.

The tech showed up and immediately informed me that a diagnostic for the tankless water heater would cost me $293. Since there are few plumbers with the training to work on the unit I was not in a position to turn them down, so there went almost three hundred buck for 15 minutes of work. Fine. Then I asked them to quote some simple maintenance work, replace flaps in two toilets, swap a hose, swap a dishwasher. They came back with an estimate of $1495! Wow, their customers must be the uninitiated or very rich. After saying no they came with a "discounted" rate of 900 something but I was not interested. I got all the work done in an hour with a different plumber for $150. + 95 in parts, which I considered fair.

Let me preface this with the fact that this was in 2004, and that the work was not done by Steve Addario, so I do hope the guys that came out have been fired. It's possible the price was a little higher--I can't find the receipt.
I scheduled a replacement for my (working but very old) water heater through Home Depot. Addarios was assigned, I can't remember if I called them or them me. A date was arranged, and I took the day off to be there.
1. They never showed up, and I got a call later that they "got lost" and would come out the next day.
2. I took the next day off and waited. They were late, but arrived and were nice.
3. They declared that there was a "special valve" attached to the water heater, which they had to charge an extra 50 or 70 dollars to remove before they could proceed. Ok, I knew nothing about plumbing at the time--I had just bought my house--so I said fine.
4. They then said the disposal fee for the water heater--which was included in the price agreed on previously--was $150 because, get this, it was a copper lined water heater. Keep in mind this was 2004 when the price of copper was sky high--copper power lines were being stolen because the price was so high. And these guys are charging extra to "get rid" of it. Knowing nothing, I agreed. You know when you've overpaid for something, and the shifty person starts to act giddy and rushing around to get the deal done as fast as possible? Yeah, that's what I felt after I gave them the money for that. I credit them for not high-fiving each other in front of me.
Afterwards, my neighbor, who was a contractor and had been friends with the previous owner said the water heater was worth quite a bit of money ( I confirmed this by reviewing my inspection report, where the inspector noted this on his sheet as well). The "gauge" they removed was apparently just a pressure regulator, a harmless device that could have stayed, but in any case its removal could not have taken more than 30 seconds, if that.
Addarios: just exactly like 95% of the shifty plumbers out there. You've been warned.

It was fine.  They worked efficiently.  They knew what they were doing.  They hauled the old one away and they retro fit my section downstairs for the new unit.  It worked out pretty well.

It was expensive but the work was good.

We had a terrible experience with Addario's. Next Step Living sent them to us and it started out well but quickly went off the rails. The sales guy was nice and seemed to know what he was talking about. The installation was a disaster.
It took a total of 15 visits to get our system working properly. Their own carpenter came to repair some damage they'd done and told us their "plumbers are pigs." Condensation on the pipes was causing wet plaster to fall on our neighbors car (we share a garage) and they couldn't figure out why. The AC stopped altogether when the lines froze on a hot day. When we asked why the original guy was not coming out, they said he was on leave. When we said we needed their best people to solve what were obviously tough problems, they sent the same people who messed up in the first place (more than once actually).
To top it off, we got a smaller rebate than the sales guy had suggested we'd get and Addario's took months to send us all the necessary paperwork for it.
The only positive thing I can say is that they were always polite and responded quickly. They just weren't up to the task.

I turned the gas off due to a gas leak in which they responded. When I called the company, they were not the same company I called; however, apparently they purchase old plumbers phone numbers. I was surprised to hear this but needed the job done. We worked on the gas leak for about four hours but lacking certain materials to complete the job. We couldn't even get the inspector back that day as they had to end up coming back a few days later. I was worried about the pipes freezing so when they came back, the bill amount was $2,500 for four hours of work. They also wanted an extra $300 just for coming back out to inspect. I wouldn't use the company again.

I want to make sure to be clear that the two guys who came to give me an estimate were very nice and went over everything they believed I needed done. The problem was that we were told it was a free estimate as stated on their website http://www.addarios.com/heating-and-cooling.html. After the two guys walked her rough they told me I owed them $60 for the estimate. I told them it was suppose to be free and they called the office and whoever they spoke to said I was wrong and it was $60. I obliged but then looked on their website and again found where it says free estimate.

"[removed member name], I am happy that you found that our team that came out were friendly and knowledgeable. On the page that you posted that is for system upgrades and new installations. When we call to actually setup your visit we explain the dispatch fee, the cost and how it is applied should you move forward with any recommendations we suggest while on site. Even though we left and didn't perform anything at that time I will still apply the 59.95 towards any work we suggested to do. Look forward to still earning your business. Have a great day."

All communication was good.   The work performed was good.  When I was told the work was finished they asked for the balance of payment, I wrote a check and handed it to the plumber in charge.   At that time he disconnected something and said he would be back tomorrow to rerun it.  I told him it was the Saturday of a long weekend and asked if he was working.  He said yes.  I did not hear from him all weekend so I called the office and was told he was away for vacation.  I put a stop payment on the check I wrote.  That got his attention and he sent someone to finish the job 2 weeks later.

Great job, came on time finished in the no of days quoted. Cleaned up everything, nothing left behind.  The work done was a work of art.  Perfect job very impressive. The office staff was very helpful with all paper work.  The whole experience was great.

Very frustrating to wake up to a pool of water in our basement after buying the home 2 years ago. Called around, and Addario was the first available. Since they installed the original water heater, I felt OK with them. After meeting them, they made recommendations on the MassSave program, helped with the rebate paperwork for our new energy efficient unit, and our basement was actually cleaner than when they started. Well done.

At every single step of the 3+ month process, dealing with the Addarios office was terrible.  We were shocked at their poor customer service, the level of miscommunication between the office and the service people in the field, and the lack of organization. They'd tell us they were showing up at a certain time and not show up at all, or show up late. They lost our house key. They failed to prioritize our house so the job went long, and we ran out of heating oil during the first blizzard of the year- on a Sat night, and we have an infant and two tenants. (My husband had to stay up all night in order to get them to work on our house. Argh.) Once, they called us accidentally to say the'd be over to fix a problem but then never came (they meant to call another house, it turned out), but they didn't call back to cancel or apologize. Another time they quoted us "just labor" to fix an issue, then after the parts were installed tried to charge us for said parts. They would seemingly avoid communicating with us because they knew that our patience was wearing thin. They didn't want to address the situation head on and they seem to take on too much work, so they just avoided us. And so it just got worse.
At the end of the day- about 1/2 a year after we started down this road- we have a better heating system and the work that the plumber did was quality. We have no complaints with the guys who actually came to the house to do the work. But getting to that point was a nightmare: a huge waste of time, totally stressful, super frustrating- and almost all of that was avoidable.
