Sunday morning call to the main number was forwarded to the owner, Joe Addario, who could not have been more helpful. He arranged for a technician to come to the house by 1pm monday (no emergency service required since temperatures were warm enough). Identified and remedied the problem within an hour. Excellent service. I highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: They installed a gas furnace two years ago, replacing an old oil furnace, and did a fantastic job. We had a problem over the weekend - furnace would not turn on.

Addario's was the first company to schedule an appointment, so we were hopeful that they would be able to fix it quickly, since it was a very warm week. They told us they would come between 11 - 2 but called at 7:30am to say they would come at 8. We were not able to make that time, so we were told they would come at noon. At 1:30, we called the dispatch to see where they were, and we were told they would be there in 20 minutes. They showed up about an hour later. So far, not so great. The guys who came out were very kind and explained things to us well, saying we needed to replace the TXV. When asked informally how much that might cost, they told me around $500. They then said they had to call in for the part availability and sat in their truck for around an hour. When they came back, the said the part wouldn't come in until the following week and the repair would cost $1575. That is on top of the $89 they charged to show up and the $293 they charged for a "diagnostic" (ie the cost of generating the quote. They also said they would throw in a valve repair "for free." They also told us to call the company to try to negotiate that price down by 5%, which struck me as a strange business practice. We called the next day to ask questions about the quote (there was no information about the cost of labor/hour or the price of parts, just a black box quote). We were told a specific person would have to call us back, but he never did (now 4 days later). We were stuck with an almost $400 charge to generate a quote and no follow-up service. We ended up having another company come out to give a second opinion and they fixed it in 20 minutes for $243 total, no "diagnostic" fee or fee for showing up. I would be very wary of Addario's hidden pricing and lack of responsiveness. The experience left of feeling very cheated.

The tech showed up and immediately informed me that a diagnostic for the tankless water heater would cost me $293. Since there are few plumbers with the training to work on the unit I was not in a position to turn them down, so there went almost three hundred buck for 15 minutes of work. Fine. Then I asked them to quote some simple maintenance work, replace flaps in two toilets, swap a hose, swap a dishwasher. They came back with an estimate of $1495! Wow, their customers must be the uninitiated or very rich. After saying no they came with a "discounted" rate of 900 something but I was not interested. I got all the work done in an hour with a different plumber for $150. + 95 in parts, which I considered fair.

Addario's was responsive in returning my initial call, and quickly set up the appointment (they were the first of 4 vendors to call to schedule) to come over to my house to understand my needs, educate me about the products, and take measurements. Kyle was friendly, answered all of my questions, told me he would prepare a quote "in the next day or so" and left a favorable impression. Unfortunately, that was the last I heard from him. I did call his cell phone over a week later to ask if he had a quote, and he apologized for not getting back to me sooner, and promised that he would send the quote out that afternoon when he was back at the office. Three days has passed, and still no quote. I ended up selecting another vendor tonight who was just as thorough, but also had a quote in my hands before he walked out my front door. Based on lack of responsiveness, I would have a hard time recommending Addario's. I was going to have the work done; it was just a matter of who I picked. I am amazed that Addario's lost their first mover advantage by not following up with the customer.

Let me preface this with the fact that this was in 2004, and that the work was not done by Steve Addario, so I do hope the guys that came out have been fired. It's possible the price was a little higher--I can't find the receipt. I scheduled a replacement for my (working but very old) water heater through Home Depot. Addarios was assigned, I can't remember if I called them or them me. A date was arranged, and I took the day off to be there. 1. They never showed up, and I got a call later that they "got lost" and would come out the next day. 2. I took the next day off and waited. They were late, but arrived and were nice. 3. They declared that there was a "special valve" attached to the water heater, which they had to charge an extra 50 or 70 dollars to remove before they could proceed. Ok, I knew nothing about plumbing at the time--I had just bought my house--so I said fine. 4. They then said the disposal fee for the water heater--which was included in the price agreed on previously--was $150 because, get this, it was a copper lined water heater. Keep in mind this was 2004 when the price of copper was sky high--copper power lines were being stolen because the price was so high. And these guys are charging extra to "get rid" of it. Knowing nothing, I agreed. You know when you've overpaid for something, and the shifty person starts to act giddy and rushing around to get the deal done as fast as possible? Yeah, that's what I felt after I gave them the money for that. I credit them for not high-fiving each other in front of me. Afterwards, my neighbor, who was a contractor and had been friends with the previous owner said the water heater was worth quite a bit of money ( I confirmed this by reviewing my inspection report, where the inspector noted this on his sheet as well). The "gauge" they removed was apparently just a pressure regulator, a harmless device that could have stayed, but in any case its removal could not have taken more than 30 seconds, if that. Addarios: just exactly like 95% of the shifty plumbers out there. You've been warned.

We had a terrible experience with Addario's. Next Step Living sent them to us and it started out well but quickly went off the rails. The sales guy was nice and seemed to know what he was talking about. The installation was a disaster. It took a total of 15 visits to get our system working properly. Their own carpenter came to repair some damage they'd done and told us their "plumbers are pigs." Condensation on the pipes was causing wet plaster to fall on our neighbors car (we share a garage) and they couldn't figure out why. The AC stopped altogether when the lines froze on a hot day. When we asked why the original guy was not coming out, they said he was on leave. When we said we needed their best people to solve what were obviously tough problems, they sent the same people who messed up in the first place (more than once actually). To top it off, we got a smaller rebate than the sales guy had suggested we'd get and Addario's took months to send us all the necessary paperwork for it. The only positive thing I can say is that they were always polite and responded quickly. They just weren't up to the task.

I turned the gas off due to a gas leak in which they responded. When I called the company, they were not the same company I called; however, apparently they purchase old plumbers phone numbers. I was surprised to hear this but needed the job done. We worked on the gas leak for about four hours but lacking certain materials to complete the job. We couldn't even get the inspector back that day as they had to end up coming back a few days later. I was worried about the pipes freezing so when they came back, the bill amount was $2,500 for four hours of work. They also wanted an extra $300 just for coming back out to inspect. I wouldn't use the company again.

We accepted the offer and filled out the paper work for the Mass Saves program to complete the conversion. We were told it might not happen that year to wait for dig safe and National Grid to paint the street for digging. Once that happened we also received an email with contact information for Next Step Living and National Grid. We were happy to think it would be done this year. We followed all our steps and assumed that Addario and National Grid who do this work were getting the needed permits as was on their to do list. 2 months later we had not heard a word from Addario and were running out of oil. We made many calls to find out that none of the parties involved knew that Route 1A is a state road and they had the wrong permits. We finally got a call back from Peter after sending a message through their website of our intent to cancel. It seems facing losing a $15,000 job woke them up. Peter then proceeded to tell us we never should have spoken to Next Step Living or National Grid. Addario should have handled it all. He had no explanation as to why they didn't handle anything up to that point. Later that day we received a call from the so called expert with "connections" at National Grid. We were then told it could be 3 days or 3 months by Marie at Addario and to order oil and bide our time. It should be noted that any oil that remained in the tank at the conversion would have to be disposed of at our expense. So if we had paid for oil and it took 3 days for the permit we would pay twice and waste the oil. The Addario rep also noted they could dig in the winter if the ground isn't frozen. Any 3rd grader knows a stretch of 32 or below weather will freeze the ground. This is New England. We cancelled the whole process yesterday. The only easy part of this was the loan. The actual work never happened because the so called experts didn't know what permits are needed.

I want to make sure to be clear that the two guys who came to give me an estimate were very nice and went over everything they believed I needed done. The problem was that we were told it was a free estimate as stated on their website http://www.addarios.com/heating-and-cooling.html. After the two guys walked her rough they told me I owed them $60 for the estimate. I told them it was suppose to be free and they called the office and whoever they spoke to said I was wrong and it was $60. I obliged but then looked on their website and again found where it says free estimate.

[removed member name], I am happy that you found that our team that came out were friendly and knowledgeable. On the page that you posted that is for system upgrades and new installations. When we call to actually setup your visit we explain the dispatch fee, the cost and how it is applied should you move forward with any recommendations we suggest while on site. Even though we left and didn't perform anything at that time I will still apply the 59.95 towards any work we suggested to do. Look forward to still earning your business. Have a great day.

All communication was good. The work performed was good. When I was told the work was finished they asked for the balance of payment, I wrote a check and handed it to the plumber in charge. At that time he disconnected something and said he would be back tomorrow to rerun it. I told him it was the Saturday of a long weekend and asked if he was working. He said yes. I did not hear from him all weekend so I called the office and was told he was away for vacation. I put a stop payment on the check I wrote. That got his attention and he sent someone to finish the job 2 weeks later.

Very frustrating to wake up to a pool of water in our basement after buying the home 2 years ago. Called around, and Addario was the first available. Since they installed the original water heater, I felt OK with them. After meeting them, they made recommendations on the MassSave program, helped with the rebate paperwork for our new energy efficient unit, and our basement was actually cleaner than when they started. Well done.

At every single step of the 3+ month process, dealing with the Addarios office was terrible. We were shocked at their poor customer service, the level of miscommunication between the office and the service people in the field, and the lack of organization. They'd tell us they were showing up at a certain time and not show up at all, or show up late. They lost our house key. They failed to prioritize our house so the job went long, and we ran out of heating oil during the first blizzard of the year- on a Sat night, and we have an infant and two tenants. (My husband had to stay up all night in order to get them to work on our house. Argh.) Once, they called us accidentally to say the'd be over to fix a problem but then never came (they meant to call another house, it turned out), but they didn't call back to cancel or apologize. Another time they quoted us "just labor" to fix an issue, then after the parts were installed tried to charge us for said parts. They would seemingly avoid communicating with us because they knew that our patience was wearing thin. They didn't want to address the situation head on and they seem to take on too much work, so they just avoided us. And so it just got worse. At the end of the day- about 1/2 a year after we started down this road- we have a better heating system and the work that the plumber did was quality. We have no complaints with the guys who actually came to the house to do the work. But getting to that point was a nightmare: a huge waste of time, totally stressful, super frustrating- and almost all of that was avoidable.
Description of Work: We applied for a Heat Loan to upgrade our triple decker's entire heating system. We were glad to replace the old oil burning furnace with an energy efficient gas system, including a tankless, on-demand water heating system. Going through the Mass Saves/Next Step Living loan process meant that we were not given an option which plumbers we worked with. Addarios got the 30K job- a no bid contract.

Based on the little bit of contact I had with this company and the complaints they've had, I didn't use them and would not recommend this company.
Description of Work: I was going to have Addarios install a hot water heater through Sears. I went online to research this company and found they had failed to get a permit and follow industry standards on the Mass.gov, Division of Professional Licensure website and I found they had 8 complaints with the BBB over the last 3 years. Also, when the guy called me from Addarios he didn't specify who he was, he just went right into I'm calling to schedule the appointment. I had to ask him for his name, he gave me his first name only and he was very short with me.

I did not receive a quote and followed up with the company as well as national grid. After several follow-ups the owner called me and it had turned out the email they had for me was incorrect. This was corrected when I was able to speak with the owner and I received the quote shortly after.
Description of Work: I had called National Grid to convert my home from oil to gas. They had referred me to Addario's as one of their VPI's for a free estimate to complete the work. On the day of the inspection I received a call from the gentleman who would be completing the inspection saying he was 10 minutes away, 45 minutes later he showed up. The gentleman was nice and inspected our current system and went over the details of the new installation and such. He answered our questions and made his recommendations based upon our current system. He told us we should expect a quote the following day.

Fantastic! Great price and tons of value.
Description of Work: We were in the market to do an oil to gas conversion. We contacted Addario's and a couple other companies. One company did not even call us back and the other had no idea what they were doing. We chose Addario's and we're happy we did! They did a great job! They handled the project from start to finish even assisted us in filing for all the rebates. They needed to make some openings in the ceiling to get the pipes to the outside to install the system properly. We asked them if they knew someone to patch and repair the holes and to my surprise they have a carpenter on staff that came out and patched the holes like they didnt even exist. We had to pay extra for that but we had no problem because they saved us a ton of time trying to find a plasterer to do the job. I highly recommend using them! I have also had them in after to do some other misc. plumbing things around the house.

i saw an addarios truck wrote down the phone # called them--made an appointment---i compared their quote to the others--they were in the middle on pricing but the owner instilled confidence that he good do the job--correctly as it was a steam boiler and i also needed a loop of hot water heat off the same boiler which no one assured me they could make work other than steve from addarios.

Do not utilize this company.
Description of Work: Do not contract with this company. On the evening of Feb 28th my tenant in S Boston infomed me that she did not have heat. After some initial homeowner diagnostics I reached out to the Rheem website to find a company that had been approved by the manufacturer (big mistake). Addario was on the top of the list and as such i reached out to request service on my furnace. The woman i spoke with said there would be an $89 service charge that would be deducted from the bill after the service was complete. I said OK and she dispatched a service guy. Received a follow up call from the same woman at Addario and she said that this type of call involved a "diagnostic charge" and would be $189.00. I do not know what changed as no one had yet looked at the system but assuming "normal" rates for a plumber and that it would most likely take a couple hours felt pretty safe proceeding. Recieved a call from the service guy that a pressure switch had failed , at this point he had 1 hour on site, and needed to be replaced and it would be $560 for the call and all parts. Not knowing how long it would take to retrieve the part and finish the repair assumed that the job would take 4 to 5 hours with the price of the part and market "mark up." Tenant called me 2 hours after the repair guy walked thru the door that the system was back up and running. At this point the flags went up and i looked into the price of the part and it is $40. For some reason this company feels that plumbers should get upwards of $200.00 per hour. Called the company to complain and they agreed to take 10% off the bill. Still feeling a bit "abused" decided to move on and confirm the credit on my credit card in a few days. To my surprise the credit card bill was not only charger the $560 but also $189 for the diagnostic charge for a total of $749 for 2 hour service call and a $40 part. Called the company and after many heated discussions with company reps they agreed to credit the $189 for a net charge of $560 for a 2 hour call and $40 part. Company justifies there overcharging policy in that all calls are "flat rate" and do not break out parts and labor. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Member you were explained that we have a dispatch fee of $89 to come out for a no heat call prior to coming to your rental property. You gave us authorization to come out. Once we were on site we then explained to you that we had to do a complete diagnostic to find out the complete picture of what the problem was. This is necessary to do this to make sure that we dont come back and fourth. Which the dispatch fee at that time was also explained went away and we would move to a diagnostic of $189. You then gave us the authorization to proceed again. After a full diagnostic we did confirm with you that it was only the pressure switch and what all the costs would be to make the repair. Once again you gave us authorization to proceed with the repair. We sell time and knowledge the part cost in a service business is a minor part of most job cost. I am unclear at what point we were not upfront with you anywhere with giving you and your tenant bad service? I'm sure your tenant is enjoying having the heat working again. Our pricing is built up of the average time it has taken to do a call over the 14 years of many service calls. Also at any point you could have expressed that you did not want us to proceed and the fact that you kept allowing us to do so figuring that you would just complain after to get money back and then post this is both unprofessional as a landlord as well as devious. I'll explain to the employees and their families of our company who are here for the sole purpose of serving YOU our customer, that you dont think it's not fair to them as professionals to have benefits, training , insurance, and everything else it takes to run a professional company which is what those dollars pay for. I hope this sheds some light on both sides of the story. Have a good rest of the weekend and if the need rises and you decide to call us again we will be sure to serve you like the professionals we are.

I contacted National Grid to start the process and spoke to several contractors that were recommended. Addario's was the most helpful in making suggestions about the best equipment to purchase, given the house size and my needs. That also helped to reduce the cost to be lower than the other contractors who all gave one or two options without really asking a lot of questions about what might work best for me. The tank-less hot water that Addario's recommended has been great and with the limited space I have it worked out best to have a compact unit. The installation went together much faster than I expected. They showed up on time and work proceeded quickly. They were flexible and helpful in planning future gas appliance additions and provided fittings so additions could be made easily at a later date. The work was completed on time and Addario's was helpful in making certain I contacted National Grid and the oil tank removal companies when I needed. The final inspection went without a hitch and I was pleased with the quality of the work. Everything was finished, clean and neat. Because I had the installation done in the middle of a heat wave, there was not a chance to test the heating system, I did have a minor problem when I first started the heating and of course it was on a Sunday morning. I called Addario's and they showed up in less than two hours and resolved all of the problems. Even though it was several months after the install, they were very responsive and had everything running about an hour after they arrived. Addario's was also helpful in getting the rebates from National Grid.
Description of Work: I had a gas to oil conversion with the installation of a combined furnace and hot water heater.

When the line sprung a leak, I called the number of my usual plumber, James Roche. Addario's answered. It turned out they purchased one of his phone numbers. They told me Jim was bankrupt, and that they had taken over his business. I found out afterward, NONE OF THIS WAS TRUE. Jim was fine and still in business, just not with all the same phone numbers (he used to have a number for every town). Addario's lied to me. Jim had been doing work for me for years; if he had fixed the problem for me it would have been half the price. These people are not ethical!
Description of Work: Leaky valve was replaced.

Response from Addario's Plumbing Heating Cooling & Electrical
We have aquired the customer's numbers. At no time have we ever expressed that he was bankrupt we simply explain that we have aquired the numbers as their could be numerous reasons for us having the numbers. Sorry if there was some miscommunication. We know that people need service and most people when they call are happy with the fact that we have stepped up to the plate to service them. I hope this helps. Have a great day.

My central air is not working. Have spoken to someone (receptionist/customer service person) on the phone numerous times since initial call (two business days ago) who made me feel like I was bothering her every time I called (including the first time!). Every time she says that "the air conditioner 'guy' will call you". However he doesn't! Is he just a guy or a knowledgeable technician? I just called another company that I found on Angie's List (A rating) who were extremely professional and responsive; indicated they will be over no later than tomorrow morning.
Description of Work: Just trying to schedule central air conditioning repair.
