We had a large under-ground Oil Tank removed. In doing that we were left with a 2 1/2" hole through the basement wall. We made an appointment to have the hole repaired with the main office of Pioneer Basement. They called the day before to make sure I was going to be home. They gave me a time frame and Tim was right on time ready to work... Tim Xavier was assigned to this project by Pioneer Basement / I knew Tim - as he had provided a "very smart work around" to move some fairly serious water directly to a Sump Pump we had previously installed. I'm retired so I got to talk to Tim and watch him work. It made me feel good that there are still some young men that are interested in their quality of work - Tim is one of those guys who want to give a days work for a days pay. He is bright who works very efficiently/ "And" he speaks very highly of "his" company. A good combination as far as I'm concerned.. :-) Thank You Pioneer Basement - and Thank you Tim for your excellent work.... Orville

Pioneer's installers Branden, and Anthony arrived on time ready to go to work. We discussed the job and my specific needs as to the direction I wanted the down spouts to discharge the water from the various buildings. In one instance Anthony and Branden had to completely design a discharge from the garage to accommodate my needs. A very nice piece of work! I was happy about all phases of the quality of "their" work, including " Materials". The way they treated my home while working on it including using stainless steel screws throughout the process. Thank you guys :-) Orville

Tim, Pioneer's Tech. Proceeded to cut an 8" trough in the concrete floor / from the new water seepage to the Sump Pump. He then installed an Artery that picked up the water at it's source and delivered it directly to the Sump pump. A very impressive, and effective installation. When Tim got on-site he let me know what he thought this project needed and answered all my questions with a smile. :-) A very nice job / and great customer service from the office, to the Job Site. Thank You Orville

I purchased a Big Deal for $49 for a basement waterproofing inspection and preventive water leakage plan. When I initially called him said there was nothing him could do for the issues that I was having; I then told him about the deal purchased and he said he could come out. So when he came out took a look, he emailed me a short list of what needed to be done and said I only had one month to decide if I wanted them to repair what needed to be to done to use the credit. I had other estimates done for free and they gave me a detailed written report with brochures. I feel that I should not have to pay for a estimate that could have been done for free.

The company inspector viewed the problem and gave me a quote. He explained everything that had to be done and why. A week later the work crew arrived on time and proceed to work. They worked non stop until the job was done. While working they informed me about noise of the jack hammer and safety on the job. They completely cleaned up the worksite and explained the work accomplished. A company inspector arrived today to check the job and answer my questions. Job well done

First of all I'm an engineer, so I naturally investigated and analyzed this job before even making contact with anyone. I contacted two highly rated basement pros on Angie's List. Pioneer responded very quickly by phone. Pioneer (Nick) and I exchanged several emails. The work site photos I emailed helped Pioneer better understand the work site. After agreeing on a system that would meet my requirements, Pioneer provided a estimate by email in order to ensure that we were on the same page. Nick at Pioneer came to my house two days later to inspect the work site and identify any potential problems not identified in the emailed photos. After a 30% deposit, an install date was scheduled for three days later. A polite crew of three showed up on time, and had the system installed in just over three hours. The job looks professional. Pioneer will return in the spring to bury the discharge pipe, as the outside temperature is about 20 degrees today. Overall Pioneer analyzed the job/system/install and came up with exactly the same conclusions I had. That is how I knew I hire the right guys. Although Pioneer was probably more expensive than the other guy, I felt I was getting a better designed system.

The team was very professional and thorough. They estimated the job and provided us with a detailed plan of attack to help solve our basement water issues. When they can to do the job, they stayed true to their estimate. The best part was they cleaned up after themselves. Pricing was reasonable compared to other estimates we received. They warranty their work and when we had a small water leak they came right out to review it and replair the issue. We would highliy recommend this team!!

Was very satisfied with job. Work area was cleaned up like they were never there. I feel better knowing I have a new sump system, better than the one replaced. The free estimate, dealt with replacing sump pump, suggestions were made to make the system better, not trying to sell. Just recommendations. This is not a service I can rate until unit has been in operation for intended function. J.P.L. Update 3/30/14 I am so glad I had Pioneer Basement install the sump system. Works great and the amount of water it has been pumping out I can only imagine the outcome if I did not have it. I can recommend this service by Pioneer Basement. J.P.L.

Unlike the other two quoting companies, who sent folksy veteran salespeople who scribbled quotes on tear sheets, Pioneer sent a younger man who was coldly efficient in the use of his time and was tech savvy, using his iPad to show recommended equipment and sending his quotes via e-mail. A neighbor had recommended Pioneer to me after they did work for him. I probably would have gone with Pioneer, except that their quote was 60% higher than my other two, all from reputable companies of long standing, ie several thousand dollars more. I called to ask why so much higher and the response I got was a bit haughty, basically saying that you get what you pay for and Pioneer was so much superior to other companies that their prices reflected that. Maybe that's true and maybe it isn't, but I noticed that Pioneer's quote included multiple follow-ups and annual visits above what the other companies were offering. That isn't to say that the other companies would not return for a follow-up if requested and for a price, but, to me, Pioneer was getting the price of these extra visits up front and also recommending multiple back-up systems when less might have been appropriate for my particular needs. They were also touting a top-of-the-line humidifier for which they would provide a substitute if the original needed repair, alerting me to what might be a problem with the original machine. They conveniently neglected to tell me what it would cost to send the original machine to be repaired and the time frames involved. I found a few disgruntled stories about that arrangement on line. So I didn't go with Pioneer, but I don't doubt they do a good job.

Our representatives use an Ipad and email to get the consumer a quick quote. Pioneer Basement cares about the environment and no longer provides written estimate using paper unless you the customer requests it. That is why we also send PDF of our brochures unless you the customer wants a printed brochure. For your information the representative who went to your home is also one of the owners of Pioneer. As far as charging for the recommended annual service calls - Pioneer includes so many free service appts because we realize that most people forget to do necessary maintenance. By us already including these service calls, our customers benefit by us contacting them to remind them of this service. We have found that Pioneer customer are happy customers because we truly do care for all of them. So other companies (long standing) say they have a service department but don't really and when you are offered a maintenance visit it is at a cost that is almost double what Pioneer charges. As far as the Santa Fe dehumidifier, they are the best in the business and we found that the few units we have had warranty issues with over the last 20 years usually break down when our customers need them the most (July and August) So we at Pioneer decide to protect our customers from this by providing a free loaner while their unit is repaired, thus avoiding our customer having to go buy or rent another dehumidifier from a local store while their unit is being fixed. Pioneer Basement wants happy customers and sometimes other companies will exclude necessary work just to get the job, then in the future when the customer is flooded because of a power outage or pump failure, then that company offers the back up system at a higher cost than what Pioneer charges upfront. As the consumer you had the right to not include the back up system as some of our customers chose.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and it turned out great. I chose to go with them because they had good reviews. The reviews said that they would be there when they were supposed to be and got the work done properly. We had a lot of damage from seepage in the past, and they solved the problem.

The work has not been done yet. Getting a quote from them was very fast and efficient. The only slight, not really complaint, was that everything was done by e-mail and I am very much like the old fashioned and like to see the paper in my hand; but I think that is just not being very techie. I got the quote and all the answers immediately via e-mail. The total cost to get the basement waterproofed plus a dehumidifier is going to be $10,375. I picked them because one of a fellow I know personally has used them and also because of the comments I found on Angie’s List.

I e-mailed the company re: the above service. they promptly called me . They said they would have a project manager get in touch with me to discuss the job. Shortly thereafter one of their Project Managers Mr Ken Daggett called - we made an appointment to meet at my home. he was on time with a smile. We discussed the reason I called. (Water in the Basement). He looked the area over. Did some measuring. He drew up a plan. I agreed with his proposal. The company called we set a date. The two man crew arrived on time - We discussed the plan and they went to work. Steve and Jay were gentlemen in our discussions and were prepared for their work assignment. They were efficient/hard working/and they went about their project in an intelligent manner. As expected the system tested out perfectly. They cleaned the area and took all debris with them. He arrived on time and was nice at first, but there were 2 issues. First, it seems they won't work on a basement unless the basement is in it's original condition. Mine was partly finished sometime between now and 1942. Second, assuming I demolished the basement myself, it was going to cost $7,000, $1,300 of which was for the sump pump alone. And they weren't going to do anything to touch up the fieldstone foundation, which is leaching sand because of the standing water outside the foundation. When I asked him why this was so much more than the french drains in my previous homes, he told me to go use those companies instead.

I am sorry that prices are higher today than what you spent years ago. I believe we all pay higher prices for food, transportation, etc. At Pioneer Basement we wish we could work for free , but unfortunately we and our employees must charge enough to cover our costs and a reasonable profit. We specialize in fixing finished and non finished basements, but we do not demo existing basements. We usually recommend the homeowner contact a reputable company to do this work before we do our job. I do agree that our Project manager should not have told you to go use companies you used in the past. At Pioneer Basement we teach our Project Managers not to be overly pushy, and if a customer wants something that we cannot do we should tell them so. I believe your expectations were unreasonable to ask us to work for less than our published price list. At Pioneer Basement we realize that we are not for every customer, We provide a life of house warranty on our drainage systems and have been in business under the same business name for nearly 30 years. We have thousands of customers who love what we do and are willing to pay us the money we want to do such a quality job. Would you have preferred we lowered the price and cut out work? We will not do work unless we can warranty it and get paid our normal rates. Do you pay the same amount for gas today as you did 10 years ago? What services do you pay less for today than several years ago? - I wish we could have helped you with your basement, and wish you the best in your project.

I called the company and discussed the deal and that I needed the pump installed--The price of the installation was not included in the deal but I agreed to have them look at my basement and we set up the appointment. A rep came and measured the area then he did give me a price which was higher than I anticipated. But I decided to finally have a professional installation. The work crew came right as scheduled and the work was neatly done. I have had no problems with water in my basement.

Our basement was "finished" in the 1970's. Not long after the work was completed, it flooded to 8 inches deep. My in-laws owned the house at the time. They merely shop vac-ed and let it all dry on it's own. All paneling, carpeting and furniture was never cleaned professionally. Shortly after it had flooded, the town installed storm drains in the street in front of the house. The basement has not had standing water since. BUT.. Due to the in-laws old age and their not realizing the sprinkler system was leaking along the foundation, there developed several weak spots where water would seep in and dampen the carpeting. We bought the house, moved in ............. the basement had brown mold, was nearly unbearable, definitely unhealthy, and just plain gross. Salesman came to see our situation. He recommended someone to come in and gut the basement of all organic material and clean to kill the mold. (non Pioneer) He wrote up an estimate to resolve our situation. We did need to trim some of the recommendations due to our budget. He worked with us and submitted a great plan. After the basement was cleaned of mold we made the appointment for the Pioneer job to proceed. Pioneer workers came in on time, did the necessary jobs, made a lot of noise in the basement but that was expected and kind of made us giggle from upstairs. Feeling your floors vibrate does tickle. They finished in one day. Drilled, dug, installed and did finished work on a new sump pump system including PVC pipe through basement wall to exterior, up to 10 feet from house with a drain. The 10 feet of exterior PVC was included in the packaged price. Later it proved to be not enough footage from the house. My only regret is wishing the salesman would have stressed more to us that, where the outside drain was to set would be in an area too flat and with not enough slope for the expelled water to flow away from the house. I imagine he knew our budget and felt the added expense would be not be considered if mentioned. At the time, this was probably true. We learned later on and decided to extend the pipe to the street, on our own. They also brought in an AMAZING dehumidifier that drains it's self into the sump pump hole. I LOVE this machine. The dehumidifier does an amazing job. I recommend the dehumidifier to anyone with a damp musty/moldy smelling basement. Pricey, but I now have 2 due to one needing repair. It's a love hate dehumidifier relationship :) On going but I know I must have it operating and I know I can trust Pioneer to make it right. The weekend after our sump pump was installed, it rained 3 inches. The pump worked hard and our basement stayed dry, great smelling and is now office/entertainment area. And another time of a 4 inch rain, the pump ran every 15 seconds at it's most busy time. It has been 4 years and we are still DRY DRY DRY and so so happy. When the first dehumidifier went on the fritz, I asked a friend who does heating/cooling work to find me another one. Later, I called Pioneer. They came in, took it out for repair and left me a loaner. I don't know if another basement business would go above and beyond the way Pioneer Basement has, for us. We are very happy to have hired them. And very happy with their follow up care, maintenance and service.
Description of Work: Accessed our needs. Estimates and suggestions were given. We were able to choose what best suited us and our budget. Installed a pump and placed a dehumidifier in basement. Drilled hole in basement wall, and excavated and laid pipe and drain for pump, in yard. They call and set up yearly service appointments for maintenance of pump and drainage.
