Dryer Vent Wizard of Middlesex-Essex

Overall, the experience was positive, but was also frustrating because of what the original contractor had previously done (or not done as in our case). During the inspection phase, the technician went outside into the below freezing weather, got up on his ladder and examined the dryer vent soffit outlet (top of 2nd story). He took it off and then called for me to come look.... where there should have been a hole for the dryer to vent to the outside was not there; just a solid piece of wood. So, the existing venting was going directly into the attic, and not outside. Then when he checked the attic, sure enough, the vent was just pushed into the insulation around the eave area, and furthermore, used flexible plastic tubing that is not to code for dryer vents. The tech walked me through everything he found, what the cost would be, and why. He explained that he had all of the parts needed with him, and could do the repair now, later, or have someone else do it. He would still clean the vents. We decided to have him do the work, as the tech really knew what he was doing, and gave us the confidence that he was experienced and could handle just about anything. The work took about two hours from the time he arrived until we were done testing the vent.

Kevin came this morning to re-clean the dryer vent that was not fully clean previously. He had the patience and did a very good job on the dryer vent. The vent is now fully clean as it should be. The technician Kevin was the person who came back from the company to re-clean. Kevin was very understanding and a really nice guy. The company felt that they should make things right since the previous visit was not satisfactory and now I am satisfied.

He came for the special advertised but said to do it correct would be slightly more money. He didn't have a ladder to reach from the outside which would have been the best way - I had told him it was very high before he came. He cleaned it from the inside which I don't think was the best way.

The dryer repair technician recommended that we contact Dryer Vent Wizard. The Dryer Vent Wizard technician showed up on that same day. The arrival time of the technician could not be determined so we had to be patient. Fortunately when the technician arrived he very efficiently assessed the situation and provided a general estimate of the cost on the spot $700. We got two other estimates for the work over the next two days and both of those estimates were in the $250 to $400 range. The Dryer Vent Wizard Technican was the only estimator that explained all aspects of the work and possible problems and seemed the most competent. We called back to schedule Dryer Vent Wizard to perform the work. The day the work was scheduled we were pleasantly surprised to get a call early in the day to notify us that the technician could arrive earlier than scheduled. The work was performed flawlessly without disruption or damage to the room cabinets etc. and completed in a very short time. The final cost ended up to be less than the estimate and we have been very pleased with the results.

Cleaned dryer vent - uneventful. No problem encountered got estimate on upgrading duct material. Technician very - thoughtful and considerate.

The technician was on time, prepared, very knowledgeable, and professional. Given the nature of the work, I was prepared to deal with a less than qualified individual and had low expectations. However, I was very impressed. He inspected the vent, discussed my concerns, cleaned the vent and the catch (an almost impossible task without the correct tool), installed a new vent cover, and advised me that although I will get a reminder annually my type of vent should be fine with a 5 year clean out. The level of professionalism and knowledge and customer service was outstanding and really surprising. It is obvious that the Vent Wizard folks invest in their technicians and don't have a revolving door of staff. It is expensive for the task but I felt comfortable that the technician knew what he was doing and was interested in ensuring the job was done correctly.

We recently moved into the house and noticed the dryer exhaust venting was dented and had cracks in it. It also vented very close to the ground outside (about 2" max from the ground to the bottom of the vent cover) and had a vent cover directing the airflow down to the ground (almost a 90 degree angle). I tried to connect our dryer to the exhaust vent and realized the materials the exhaust vent was made of was flimsy and kept cracking open. I wanted to find a long term solution so I wouldn't have to deal with the dryer for a long long time. I was hoping I could find a company that specializes in dryer venting, as I didn't think an HVAC contractor would want to come out to repair/ replace a dryer vent, and luckily I found Dryer Vent Wizard in Westford MA. I read the Angies list reviews and they seemed to be very good and any disputes the owner would respond to, which showed me he cared about his customers and the company reputation. I called to schedule the appointment and was glad to hear that they would be out the next day to give me an estimate and, if I gave the go ahead, complete the work the same day. I don't normally request quotes from companies that charge for estimates but the company was highly rated and based on the reviews a very professional company, and the reviews gave a rough ballpark of what the job would cost me. The technician called when he was 30 minutes away to let me know when he would arrive. When on site he inspected the job and provided me with a detailed quote. And he was ready to start with my OK. He tested the dryers venting performance first to see the current baseline, then proceeded to remove the current flexible exhaust (about 10-15'), installed new rigid exhaust connected in 2' sections from the dryer to the exterior, and placed a louvered vent cover on the outside to prevent the exhaust from being forced into the ground, this way it flows much easier. All the exhaust connection points were sealed, and the exterior cover was siliconed around the outer edge, which made me happy. After the install was complete, he hooked my dryer backup and ran a new test to ensure better dryer performance, which the results showed. Although, I only really cared about replacing the exhaust, it is good to know it made a difference, performance wise. Overall it was a job well done. I like things done right, and it was done how I would have done it. When I started down this path to replace the exhaust vent, I didn't think it would cost as much as it did, but I knew what it would cost after reading the reviews, and I knew it would be done right. If you need a vent repaired or installed, I would recommend Dryer Vent Wizard.

It was easy to schedule this service. The person on the phone was knowledgeable and helpful. The service provider was courteous, punctual, and informative. In addition to cleaning the vent and lint collector (there was a great deal of lint UNDER the lint basket), he noted that the cover on the outside was missing and animals COULD get in. He replaced that cover and inspected, measured the speed of the vent afterwards to ensure safety. I would hire this person again.

What I would call 'bait and switch'. Did cursory inspection (5minutes) and told me vent system not up to code ...tried to talk me into $600 worth of remedial upgrades. I declined. Got refund from Angie's list.

NOTE: I wrote an Angie's List review for services requested, via email to the company, on July 4th and gave them an F rating for not responding after 10 days. I received an email from the company aplogizing for missing the email, I decided to give them another chance and they certainly made up for all the inconvenience. My previous F rating should be disregarded.
