Description of Work: They removed a broken garage door and installed a new one. It went well. They came when they said they were going to come, and they did a great job. They also charged me what they said they were going to charge, no hidden costs -- in fact, they charged less than the original estimate because some of our hardware was in good condition and didn't need to be replaced. We handled all the arrangements over the phone, mostly by voicemail. I would have been more comfortable if they had given me an estimate in writing (and I'd think they would too), but it all worked out fine.

+ -1 moreMr. Scalese responded the same day. We were able to schedule the work for the next day. (The ''delay'' was due to our schedule. Mr. Scalese was ready to come by the same day.) Mr. Scalese quickly repaired the problem and made several adjustments. He explained his work and what had caused the failure. The door has operated flawlessly since his repair.

The appointment was the next morning, and he arrived on time, quickly assessed the situation, explained what he was going to do and then did it. Extremely nice guy and the repair was just what was needed - no more and no less. It looks good and is holding up. I would definitely call him again when I need garage door repair!
Description of Work: Replaced broken spring on 50 year old garage door. Inspected parts on both overhead doors. Oiled rollers.

He was efficient, and he did good work. I thought the work was excellent. I would contact this company again if I needed more work.
Description of Work: My garage door was broken. Someone else had previously come to the house and told me it could not be repaired and needed to be replaced. The representative of S&S told me he could repair it, he did, and he also told me I didn't need to invest in new doors yet. I appreciated his work. The door is now working.

Description of Work: ONE OF OUR GARAGE DOORS WAS HITTING AGAINST THE FRAME AND STOPPING, THE OTHER WAS STOPPING HALFWAY. GARY EVALUATED THE PROBLEMS AND COMPLETED THE WORK IN ABOUT 20 MINUTES. HE ADJUSTED THE FORCE USED ON ONE (WE DIDN'T KNOW IT HAD A GAUGE), FIXED A SAFETY WIRE AND OILED EVERYTHING. ON THE OTHER DOOR HE REPLACED A GUIDE WHEEL, LOWERED THE TOP STOPPING PLACE AND OILED IT.

+ -1 moreAFTER A GOOD LOOK AT THE PROBLEM, HE ADJUSTED THE DOOR OPENER FOR FREE. HE ALSO WARNED ME THAT THE OPENER WAS OLD AND THE CHAIN-DRIVE'S TEETH WERE WEARING OUT, AS IS AN INTERNAL BEARING. SO WHEN THE ADJUSTMENT STOPS WORKING, IT WILL BE TIME TO REPLACE THE WHOLE MECHANISM (IT'S SO OLD, THERE ARE NO MORE REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE). I'LL GO BACK TO HIM WHEN THAT DAY COMES.

I HAVE USED S & S OVERHEAD DOOR A NUMBER OF TIMES OVER THE PAST 15 YEARS TO INSTALL A GARAGE DOOR AS WELL AS MAKE REPAIRS. GARY IS KNOWLEDGEABLE, HONEST, PROFESSIONAL, ACCOMMODATING, PUNCTUAL, AND PLEASANT. I RECOMMEND HIM HIGHLY.
Description of Work: OUR GARAGE DOOR WOULD NOT SHUT TO THE GROUND. AFTER NUMEROUS CALLS AND A VISIT TO THE INSTALLER (HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE WHERE THEY IGNORED ME), I PHONED S & S OVERHEAD DOOR FROM WALTHAM TO LOOK AT IT. GARY SCALESE, OWNER OF S & S, SHOWED ME WHERE A REQUIRED SUPPORT BAR HAD NOT BEEN ATTACHED TO THE DOOR DURING INSTALLATION. THAT AND ANOTHER MISSING BRACKET WAS CAUSING THE DOOR-SHUTTING PROBLEM AND NEEDED TO BE RECTIFIED BY THE HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE QUICKLY. WANTING THE PROBLEM FIXED IMMEDIATELY AND NOT WANTING TO FIGHT ANYMORE WITH THAT STORE, I HIRED S & S OVERHEAD TO FIX THE DOOR RIGHT AWAY.
