S & S OVERHEAD DOOR CO

We have two garage doors - one with a newer opener that recently stopped closing completely and one with an ancient one. We purchased a new opener to replace the ancient one months ago and it was just sitting in the garage gathering dust, waiting for the mythical free day my husband would have to install it. Sunday night I jumped on the List, found S & S and filled out a form on their website detailing my needs. I got a call at 8:00 the next morning from Gary, the kindly owner of S & S who quoted me $125 to install the opener and said the other door would likely be a minor fix. He and his son came 3 hours later and my months of frustration ended. They quickly installed the new opener, including the outside keypad which they had me program privately it so it was ready to use immediately. The other door required a new pulley - $5 for the part and no labor charge. They also installed a laser gizmo my husband had purchased for me to know how far to pull into the garage - for free. I hadn't intended for them to do it but it was on top of the garage opener box so they did. Gary's nice son spent several minutes programming my car Homelink button so I could open the new door without the remote. Again, something we could do ourselves but they took the extra time to do it for us. I cannot tell you how pleased I am with their service. This is my first review for the list and even though there are a hundred others like mine I had to add my praise for such kind people who worked so quickly and efficiently for such a reasonable price. They are the best.

Used Angie's list to find garage doors. Called S&S and Gary came out to measure the openings and he left product brochures as he said he would. I called several times with questions about the various doors and found Gary to be incredibly responsive and helpful. He returned to measure again when I selected the doors and again to install them. It was a pleasure doing business with Gary and S&S and I would not hesitate to refer people to him.

I got a few estimates for installing my garage door opener and S&S's price was quite reasonable. Justin answered all of my e-mails promptly. Gary and Justin showed up on time and installed the garage door opener and lock in less than two hours. After they finished the install, they showed me how to use the opener and how to program it. They also answered a few questions that I had about the opener. This was nice of them since they didn't have to do that and all of the information was in the manual that came with the opener. A couple of days later I noticed that the garage door was no longer level. I e-mailed Justin and they fixed the door the next day so they stand behind their work. I highly recommend them.

Can't rave enough about courtesy, responsiveness and professionalism of Gary at S&S. I called them based on Angie's List reviews after one side of our 2 car garage doors was not working at all and we were having to open and close it manually. Gary trouble shot the problem for me over the phone, giving me a suggestion of what to do to re-set the motor and see if it would then work. When I was unable to figure out how to do this, he volunteered to drive by my house and assess the situation while I was at work. He did so - got the garage working again, and gave me a call letting me know there was no charge and that I should call him if there were any further problems. I told him that we also needed a new opener since ours wasn't working, and he then returned to my home the next day again and fixed our existing opener (turns out when you replace the batteries, you have to program it to the overhead motor to be recognized). Again, he said there was no charge and that he'd charge me in the future if I ever really needed a new door or serious repair. When our doors do ultimately need to be replaced, I will be sure to use S&S.

The opener was refusing to open/close about half the time, and when it did work, the door would shudder and vibrate terribly. The father & son team from S&S Overhead Door came within two days of my call, arrived on time, worked for about 40 minutes and left me with a smooth-running, quiet, reliable system. They replaced some parts, repositioned, secured, adjusted, and lubed. They were friendly and happy to explain what they were doing and why. Add my voice to the chorus of praise.

S & S Overhead Door Co was one of two vendors who provided bids to recommend and install a new garage door on an existing garage with an existing garage door frame. After hearing the views of both overhead door vendors I selected S & S Overhead Door for the job. The competing vendor provided the first evalaution and said I had to pay for a custom 7 1/2 foot door and was slow to provide a written estimate. Because I wasn't comfortable with the progress of the first vendor I looked up S & S Overhead Door on Angies' List based on their multiple favorable reviews. Gary from S & S Overhead Door Co was great to work with from the first call to the evaluation of the options, to pricing and also with selecting a great quality door that was installed very quickly. Gary's vastly superior experience and subject matter expertise was clearly evident. I had a family member with me for a second opnion during the evaulation with both potential vendors and they also throught S & S Overhead Door Co was the obvious better option. Gary immediately said that we could install an eight foot door instead of paying more for a smaller custom door. He selected a great door and installed the door as scheduled. I rarely recommend vendors but If someone neeeds a garage door you owe it to yourself to get a bid from S & S Overhead Door Co. I score S & S Overhead Door a 10 out of 10.

He installed the garage door a few years ago. He did an excellent job then, and he was equally prompt, responsive and expert this time.

One of our garage door springs snapped last week. There was no safety cable in the spring so luckily everyone was inside when the spring gave way. It took out a good chunk of the wood frame around the door. I called Gary and left a message and he returned my call within a couple hours. He scheduled to come do the work the next day after 11am. It turned out he was driving by earlier than expected and stopped by at 9am. My parents were at the house so, he replaced both springs on the door, added the safety cables to those and to the two springs on the other garage door, lubricated and was done in 20 minutes. Great service and highly recommended!

Everything went fine. I just wish it had taken a bit less time. They were upfront with me on the time frame.

I did not go forward with the job because I did not want to buy a whole new unit right now.

I had two clopay steel garage doors that needed repairs, since both had been slightly bent from being hit by car. In addition, I had a broken spring that needed to be replaced on one of the doors. Gary came out promptly and when promised to assess the needed repairs. He provided an estimate for the spring repair right away and submitted a quote for replacement of the bent door panels to the manufacturer. There was some delay in terms of the response of his manufacturer's rep with a quote for the replacement panels, but this seemed out of Gary's control. When the quote came back as really high for the replacement panels, Gary suggested that he'd try to just straighten out the panel himself instead (saving us thousands of dollars). He showed up on time fixed the spring and was able to help straighten out the doors. The door work great and are really quiet now. I'd definitely recommend him and use him again if needed.

Gary returned my call on Monday, got my address and went to check on my garage door while I was at work. He called me later in the day to tell me he had checked it: I needed a new motor, new springs and a new track. He said it would cost $460 which was fine and could repair it within the next two days. He called me at work the following day to tell me he had completed the job. Outstanding! Gary does great work, is very responsive, and was a pleasure to deal with.

Awesome! They responded to my phone call efficiently, they came promptly, they evaluated the situation with the door, they fixed the door wonderfully and the charge was quite reasonable. I couldn't be happier. We've had hard sells over the years, saying we needed to get new garage doors. S&S knew immediately what the issue was with the mechanics of the garage door and then reinforced the wooden door (50 years old!). It works as good as new. Garage doors are clearly their expertise. My door was happy to be taken care of by a pro.

Gary was punctual, offered suggestions on alternatives (for example, perhaps I only needed to replace the lower panels). I opted for a complete new door. I left the details to him and was pleased with the result. He could have reused the existing frame and saved himself the time and cost, but did a complete replacement. I was very pleased with the result. A few months later, after some contractors gummed it up, he returned for a quick, low cost adjustment to get it back on track (pardon the pun). I'm very comfortable recommending Gary.

We called for repair. Our call was answered promptly. The technician arrived at the appointed time, diagnosed the issue and made an appointment for repair. He arrived at the designated time and fixed the overhead garage door. He was professional, courteous, and well trained.

They came when they said they would. He measured for a replacement, which he special ordered. When the replacement came in (in about two weeks), he called to make an appointment to install it. They came, installed the new panel, adjusted all the pulleys and springs and rollers, and took away the old panel. A job done quickly and efficiently!

Great company! Gary & his son, Justin, are personable, honest, and very professional. I called & left a message late Tuesday for Gary to come out to give me an estimate on my garage door and frame that separated from the garage wall. Gary called the next day & set up appt. for Saturday to come out & look at the situation. The frame was fine but part of it at the top had been installed backwards causing the bolts to loosen due to air space... the old hollow metal door however was damaged and needed to be replaced. Gary was so nice .. he told me that he had a good insulated filled door at home he thought would fit and it was a far better door. He explained to me that it was a brand new door never used but a customer had measured incorrectly and wanted Gary to get rid of it. He took it knowing he might be able to help out one of his customers in the future (lucky me!). He made it clear that it was considered "Used" but if it fit, it could save me $. Gary said he would go home & see if it had the correct measurements and call me with his recommendations. Less than hour later he called with the good news ~ we had a match. Gary and Justin came out the following Wed. a.m. while I was at work and did my garage door! They did a fabulous job! It never worked so well! I don't think you can go wrong with this father and son team!

Very prompt response. Replaced our electronic keypad quickly and tuned up both garage doors. We have been living with this inconvenient situation with our garage doors for months. We didn't know who to call until we joined Angie's List One quick call to S & S and it's all taken care of quickly and for a very reasonable price. Thank you!

Anyone who doesn't ask for a deposit has to have confidence in their ability to deliver. This was the case with Gary and S&S. He came, gave me a well priced quote, I agreed, he said ok, came back in three weeks, installed great quality doors at the price quoted. I would use him again.

Initially responded within a day to my email enquiry through Angie's List by phone. He missed me and rang twice more over the weekend leaving voicemail messages until we hooked up. Arrived on time , helpful and efficient explaining what he had done and what to watch for. Would definitely use him again.

Late last night (Friday) a pull cable became detached and our double-wide garage door became mis-aligned and stuck open. This morning it became clear that I could not self-repair and I checked Angie's list and called this top rated company. They returned my call as soon as they returned from a job and came right over. They quickly and expertly repaired the door (clearly a 2-3 person endeavor). Very quick and professional service and am happy to recommend them highly.
